Here's everyone's favorite cook!
When you were born as the youngest of the Germa family, Sanji knew what Judge was going to do to you.
Sora sadly passed away after a few days you were born.
Sanji was devasted but promised to protect you.
So, when Reiju helped him escape, Sanji wanted to take you with him.
She did hesitate but complied anyway.
Then, the two of you ran off.
You were still a baby at that time, so you don't remember your babyhood.
You just spend your childhood at the restaurant while Sanji worked as a chef.
You don't know why he wouldn't allow you to talk to other people.
One day, Sanji met a young guy named Luffy and joined his crew.
And, Sanji wanted you to come with him.
You were upset at first but still followed him.
While you and Sanji were traveling, you asked him a question.
"Sanji, where did I actually come from?"
He jolts for a second, but answers without hesitation.
"I don't know what you're asking me about. You grew up back there with me, Zeff, and those other staff members. Now, could you be a good sister and hand me the spice over there?"
Sabo
My Boi, Sabo.
He basically found you in an alleyway.
You were found all dirty and beaten up.
He took you in and introduced you to his group.
After that, he gave you a nice bath and gave you fresh clothes.
When you look like a clean, decent girl, Sabo felt something he never felt before.
It wasn't love, it was more like an "I need to protect her" feeling.
He asked Koala about this and she said that this feeling was called "possessive" and it's not a good feeling.
However, Sabo thought it was normal, for some reason.
Ever since you met Sabo, he's been pretty clingy around you and threatened anyone who tried to talk to you, even the whole revolutionary army.
You found it annoying at first, but Sabo told you that he was just trying to protect you.
"What do you mean I'm being too overprotective? I'm just trying to protect you, that's all."
Izo
Izo didn't meet you when he was with Kikunojo during his childhood.
He met you when the Nine Red Scabbards are going to face Kaido.
After his reunion with his little sister, he saw a h/c colored hair girl who was behind her and that was you.
Kiku introduced you to him and told him that she found you when she was on a mission.
You were raised as a slave and while walking around with your owner, that's when Kiku found you and bought you.
When Izo heard about your story, he walked up to you and wrapped his arms around you.
The moment, he did that, he felt...warmth.
Warmth that he never felt before.
While embracing you, he whispered in your ear.
"It's a good thing that I met you. If I didn't, I wouldn't have seen your beautiful face. Now, I don't want to let you go."
Franky
When Franky joined the Straw hats, he had someone with him.
It was a little girl, who was being carried by the back of her shirt.
You.
He said that you were his little sister and said that you'll be coming along with him.
He explained that the reason was because that he can't trust you being alone with his family.
He also added that when you were born here, you would always get hurt and be around dangerous things, so he has to always be around you.
However, that wasn't true.
You were stuck on this island ever since this man found you and took you away from your original hometown.
You keep arguing that he's lying and they shouldn't trust him, which resulted getting a smack by the back of your head.
"Sorry about that. She gets cranky a lot. Don't worry, I can take care of her, so you guys don't have to worry. Right, imouto?"

Spiderwebs Pt.2: For Whom the Bell Tolls
For this story we’re going to need to go a little further back than Dressrosa. Back to a time that felt so long ago even when Dressrosa was in serialization. Back to the island One Piece became about something bigger. Doflamingo is such a fun villain because he’s built so well. But we establish his ethos through Bellamy. This is such an amazing scene, where the beauty of Mock Town the classic pirate haven comes into full swing. It’s not unlike Zoro & Wano down the line; this island offers a lot of temptation but Luffy keeps his eyes on the prize.
The point with Bellamy though is how he’s changed come Dressrosa. Why he’s stalled on that path. I don’t think I really need to spell out how antithetical Bellamy is being to the core of this series in Jaya. It’ll also be great for distinguishing Blackbeard as a villain. Bellamy & Doflamingo are the “real” pirates that are interested in taking the money and power they see in front of them, but BB is still up for finding the big treasure even if he’s willing to go about it the “wrong” way.
The climax of Skypiea, ringing the bell, is still potentially my favorite moment in the series. The big goofy shadow in the sky as Cricket looks on. But of course everyone on Jaya would have seen/heard it. It was only a couple of days after that Straw Hat kid whopped Bellamy and ran off. Surely it was the talk of the town! Bellamy lost everything to follow suit but he made it. There was an island in the sky, there was a perfectly good “scientific” explanation for it. Be a little more open-minded yo. Quit acting like you know everything because grand scheme of things Bellamy wasn’t really that noteworthy of a pirate. How about the idea of him mentioning it to Doffy, who could easily casually know “yeah, Sky Islands are just a thing dude.”
Between here and then though we meet Doflamingo. Quite a few times. He’ll get his own but I care about two big themes that pop up intermittently. His introduction and followup with Bellamy/Sarquiss on Jaya is all about inducing infighting. That’s a big aspect of Wano’s “quiet” theme I’m always on about. Then the symbolism of his talk about SMILEs, the side effect we learn come Wano, and how Bellamy is “The Hyena.” An animal famous for it’s laughter. Bellamy is often laughing but it’s a cold, heartless kind of it. Even here, it’s what he’s bringing up leaving behind.
This is where the complexity comes in. Luffy from way away on a whim cheers for Bellamy. There’s no meaning to it. He doesn’t hold grudges and the man has changed for the better. That’s laudable. His goal in and of itself is not detestable, he just wants to earn someone’s respect. Wrong man to try and earn the respect of but we’ll get to that in a minute. What I love in hindsight is this idea of Luffy doing something innocuous that ends up wounding the guy’s pride. And it’ll end up coming back around in the clash later. It’s a big element of Luffy & Bellamy’s story this arc. Luffy casually introduced a big hurdle by doing something Bellamy took as shameful. Pride & Shame are obvious big themes for Wano later, case in point:
This underpins a lot of how Luffy acts towards Kiku. He respects her after Bakura. Narratively its why you would rather her see her father figure show it’s okay to ask for help than a classic “I want to live” or “Save me, Luffy.” It’s why 1042 was such a vindicating chapter. Once everything else below was stripped away, we hammer the core themes of Kiku’s story as Izo’s flows directly into Luffy’s. That’s still core, he didn’t get distracted, but after Bellamy he wants to respect her pride. This is there from the get-go, it’s a barely subtle part of the Sumo match that he’s weirdly like, “yeah yeah if you can somehow beat me do what you want with Kiku.” Why he feels a need to pipe up at Sanji’s advances, not making a scene but slipping in a “hey, she’s really tough.” The significance to her story in Chapter 1000 is Luffy looking up to see Izo (who he should recognize) there with the group.
Izo’s the one who makes this mistake. Don’t dote on her like the baby sister of the group. Respect that she’s playing the part. He gets it after he gets a snippy response, Kin’s begrudgingly accepted it, but still the segment immediately flips to Neko learning about Carrot/Wanda giving into their anger and Yamato just “itching” to fight. Given an extra layer through Kin’emon with his words at the end of the Raid about respecting a decision a woman summons all of her courage to make alongside the little bit about finally showing she was next to Toki. Anyways, the idea is that Luffy believably learned his lesson in how to navigate someone like that through Bellamy. An example of how careless words can have unintended effects.
Breaking the rule a little bit here, but it’s important. Because we’ll already set that up...then give Bellamy the big lesson about misplaced loyalty. Doflamingo knew what he was doing making Luffy waste time with him. Putting him down with that big punch first would have been kinder, it would have let you get back to Law faster. Don’t lose sight of the goal, Bellamy needs to see Doflamingo fall too. He’s put his faith in the man this long and never seen a real reason to doubt that. This whole fight is just heartbreaking, even get the big fake smile to drive the point home.
I find it really interesting too that this chapter, Bellamy the Pirate, is followed up by the SBS segment spelling out Monet & Sugar’s connection. How they followed Doflamingo out of being rescued from a bad situation. There’s also another thing Bellamy in Dressrosa has going for him that we mentioned a lot for Kiku in Wano. Being the more mundane example of the arc’s core themes. The grounded counterpart to the fantastical symbols like living toys, the classic puppetmaster, and repressed memories.

fair warning this post obviously contains spoilers bc I’m talking abt a pretty recent episode. also all screencap credit goes to hellominju.com
First off, the Usopp sequence was beautiful, it really did him justice. Flashing to some big moments in Dressrosa, it highlights the major challenges he had to overcome as he motivates Kin’emon and Kiku to not give up on life. This was very refreshing for me because Usopp took a bit of a backseat this arc in that he didn’t have any major screen time during Onigashima.
Then of course it’s followed by a silly moment of Izo being like “God Usopp!!” and “Of course I know you, you’re the king of sniping!” I didn’t know Izo was a fellow Usopp stan but hey, the more the merrier.
A lovely eye candy moment
She’s so pretty and she seethes female rage.
Overall, this episode was pretty good, I give it a solid 8/10.

May We Meet Again
Not quite a drabble, not quite a fic, but it’s for Izo and is also my entries for Hanami and Seasons pass for @onepiece-bingo.

Warnings: Angst
It was spring when Izo first saw you, when he first fell in love with you. Sitting under a sakura tree, smiling as you enjoyed the pink flowers blooming on the dozens of trees that lined the pathway to an old shrine. He’d asked why you were sitting there alone rather than enjoying the festival with others, but you’d just smiled and said that it was your favorite spot. You’d offered him some dango and to enjoy the flowers with you, so he had. The two of you sat there for hours, enjoying the snacks you’d brought and the beautiful flowers. By the end, he’d told you that you were far more stunning than any flower he’d seen that day.
Summer was when he’d asked you out on a real date, just months after meeting you, after sitting there talking with you for hours. The two of you had become fast friends, playing in the cold river waters, enjoying small snacks as you chatted away, or becoming kids again as you played in an old park. Finally, he knew that he wanted to be by your side, wanted you by his side. So he took a chance, a leap of faith, and asked you out. A sweet kiss, a small innocent thing on his cheek had been your answer, his cheeks flushed bright red. Despite wanting to take you out to the nicest, most amazing place he could find, he went with something a little more sentimental instead, and took you on a picnic, sitting near a beautiful river and enjoying the scenery, much like the day he’d first met you.
By the time Fall rolled around, Izo was head-over-heels in love with you. He didn’t want to admit it, but he would have done anything for you, given you the world itself if that’s what made you happy. Of course, you never asked for such things, you only ever wanted to spend time by his side. Every moment you could spend together, you were by his side, only parting when one of you had responsibilities to see to or you had to return home. You were his everything and he was yours, he talked with his sister about proposing, would it be too soon? Of course, she’d been ecstatic that there was someone that he loved so completely. So she helped him come up with a plan.
Winter was when he finally learned the truth. You’d told him to meet you at a specific spot that day, that you had something you wanted to tell him, a secret you wanted to share. He’d been a little worried, but it wasn’t going to stop him from seeing you. While he was still relatively young and he hadn’t known you for even a year, he knew that he wanted you by his side forever. He’d been prepared for rejection, for you to already be married, for you to tell him you were dying, leaving Wano, but he hadn’t been prepared for the truth. He’d been concerned when he’d shown up and you weren’t there, confused when a light seemed to be beckoning him, and heartbroken when he stood in front of a single, lone gravemarker, your gravemarker. Clearly decades old, moss and foliage almost obscuring it, had the strange light not disappeared into the marker, he would have missed it entirely. The old shine near where you’d first met had been your home, the home of a fortune teller, of a person who told their parents that they wouldn’t fall in love until they were long passed. He’d found what you’d left for him though, a small hair piece, simple yet intricate in design. ‘To my beloved, may we meet once more one day’ carved into the wooden case that it had rested in, the wooden case with his name on it.
Izo looked out over the waters, he was returning home for the first time in well over 20 years, he wondered how Kiku was doing. In his hands was a small hair piece, a favorite of his, he felt a little bad for being gone so long, but Pops, Marco, Thatch, Ace, all of the Whitebeard pirates had needed him. He only hoped that you would understand when he visited you, when he told you of his adventures while he was gone.

More somewhat scattered thoughts about my beloved samurai family - In general, they are a reflection of the Straw Hat crew of sorts, one who lost their Luffy. Though they held strong in spite of the overwhelming odds they faced and were able to regroup for the sake of liberating Wano from Kaido.
Each of them have been in a leadership role or top position, in some way or another, at some point in their lives.
Kin'emon - Founding member of the alliance and Momo's father figure.
Denjiro - Boss of the Yakuza and of a district in the Flower Capital. One of Hiyori's father figures.
Izo - Division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. Took care of Kiku on his own for a time, when the two were very young.
Kiku - Does teahouse poster girl count as a top position? I didn't see anyone else doing it. The most beautiful woman at heart. Also guided groups around Wano to where they needed to be during Acts One and Two.
Raizo - One of Wano’s best ninja.
Ashura Doji - Leader of the Atamayama mountain bandits.
Inu & Neko - Ruled Zou and are founding members of the alliance.
Kawamatsu - Holds/held the title of Yokozuna, the top sumo wrestler in Wano. One of Hiyori's father figures.
More detailed thoughts:
Kin'emon & Kiku - Attempting to reverse engineer some of their scenes. Kin'emon allowed Shinobu to escape from Onigashima with Momo, Shinobu showing she understands what Usopp would say to Kin and Kiku in chapter 1036. Kin then lived and motivated himself to find help for Kiku. I think they both needed to be hurt/in a position where they would ask Usopp to leave them, for the sake his big moment of calling out a negative part of the samurai mindset that had them being too eager to give up on life.
For Kin specifically - In a flashback near the end of the arc, Kin said. "To disregard a woman's decision that she gathered all of her courage to make does nothing but shame her." I think both he and Kiku knew what the result of re-matching the traitor would be, but they are both samurai who are very very stubborn. A bad situation all around and again, that’s why what Usopp shouted to them in 1036 is so important.
For Kiku specifically - She is forced to confront her sentimentality, the fact that the past can not be returned to, and that if she continues following the way of the samurai, being a way that is very in conflict with some of her own desires, it will only continue to harm her.
Izo - So stylish, so cool. Went with Marco to return a favor to his homeland, and to his first found family. Kiku is his younger sister, of course he would do anything he could to ensure she lives, especially after losing a younger sibling during the Marineford war. I see CP0 during the Onigashima war as being almost representative of the WG, just on a smaller scale. Izo killing one of the agents represents a step towards the WG's downfall, while it's unfortunately not so easy, the dominos have begun falling, in large part thanks to Izo. Post-Wano is the Straw Hat’s and friend’s time to continue what he started.
Denjiro - A classic One Piece badass with a goofy side, also blue. I like his story being mostly separate from the Straw Hats. Forcing every major character to interact with the main cast when it’s not needed could easily lead to awkward storytelling. Same can be said of the stories of other Wano characters as well, mainly Hiyori, Kawamatsu, and Ashura, to varying degrees.
Raizo - Extinguishing the flames of the castle is his way of not allowing a repeat of Oden Castle burning, and of repaying the Mink's for protecting him during Zou.
Ashura Doji - Most reliable of the group when it comes down to it. Easily able to see past any nonsense and recognize situations for what they really are. His joining Oden is one of my favorite recruitments of the group.
Inu - Fought Jack not out of revenge, but to keep him from creating more victims. Which I like for how it suggests he doesn't see the harm he and Zou underwent protecting a comrade as a defeat. Because they did protect Raizo.
Neko - Did fight Perospero for the sake of getting revenge. Independently of anything to do with the Kozuki clan, the Big Mom Pirates caused a lot of grief to the Minks in years past, during Whole Cake, and to Wanda and Carrot soon before Neko arrived. I like revenge being the motivation for Neko in this case.
Kawamatsu - Best Kappa. I would have liked to see him get a bit more individual spotlight and scenes with Hiyori, though the Beast Pirates who ran Udon Prison were his main tormentors, so seeing him beat them up a bunch was very cathartic. I absolutely adore his scenes with Onimaru and him being best Kappa dad to Hiyori.

Chapter 1052 — New morning
If the official translation doesn’t have it as “new dawn”, I’ll be sad. Although maybe there’s a difference in the Japanese as well and Oda chose ‘morning’ for a reason? We’ll have to wait and see, as with many other things in life as well.
But SUCH A BRILLIANT CHAPTER! Loved every single page and panel!

We’ll see if I can keep this to my customary one post or if I have to go multiposting for the first time.
To save space: the cover story keeps on delivering. Controversial take: I like Cesar Clown and the potential of him re-teaming with Judge under the Germa flag is.. something.
The Gorosei in da house!
Three things:
1. I haven’t noticed those tripartite logo/symbol/thingies up between the arches. Symbolising the balance between the three powers?
2. How are you going to bring Nico Robin anywhere? You couldn’t even catch her with two agents in the middle of a battle, where her focus is scattered? Does this mean they still have agents inside the country? Or are you just bluffing, nameless CP0? Which leads to number…
3. …is it an agent calling, having secured Robin? Or is it someone completely different?
Rest in peace, Hawkins.
Drake doesn’t appear to have long left either.
This is a very peculiar chapter and a great example of Oda’s storytelling skills. He manages to weave plot progression, hope and sorrow through every page. I really hope they publish a collectors edition or something of One Piece when it’s done. All the original books, no omnibus monstrosities and with all the correct names (I physically hurt when I see ‘Zolo’) as well as explanations of all the culture-specific things that the d’ablations do such a great job of explaining. I’d buy that in a heartbeat and then I could read this chapter as it is intended to be read, just to see how Oda does the mood shifts from one spread to the other.
Because after the jubilation in the capital (and the nod to the importance of <cough> impartial information and critical thinking skills in schoolchildren, Oda goes on to break your heart in the most beautiful way possible.
Rest in peace, Izo and Ashura.
And may the remaining scabbards find some peace without you.
I do hope that “something could happen to our heroes” doesn’t foreshadow anything happening to, to take a completely random example, Robin.

We’ll have to wait and see how (/if) he brings that back somehow, especially with Kin’emons comment regarding something happening to their saviours…
But to happier tidings!
Jinbe seems to have overcome his apprehension regarding Yamato from last week!

Aaaaand called it. The confusion regarding Momo’s actual age and physical age and behaviour is gaggified, as expected.

I really have no idea how much clearer Oda, the author of this thing we all love and obsess over, can make it: THIS IS HOW THESE PEOPLE PRESENT. Accept it! Move on! It’s not a big deal.
And still they keep calling Yamato “she”. Well, some people are so far up their own arse that they can use their nose as a whistle.
Also, love Zoro and Sanji bickering in the background.
And just because the whole next spread is a pure unadulterated delight, I will share it all!
Yamato, the guy, bathing with the guys! Momo, being a blushing 8-year old!
Kiku, the gal, bathing with the gals! Horselina, included in the family!
Usopp and Franky, being all handy and engineery and cool!
AND THE ALLIANCE’S REACTION TO GENERAL FRANKY! The vice-captains (and Bubblegum) being all impressed and starry-eyed! And Franky being very pleased with himself about that.
How does Oda manage these emotional U-turns? Sorrow and grief to relief to hilarity and joy with a few turns of the page?
I really want to know Apoo’s backstory with the numbers. Why are they so friendly?

Ooo.. what’s classed as “unnecessary” by Akainu? Razing the country to the ground?
The ideas about the fifth admiral having a plant-based Devil Fruit seem to have been spot on. And how does that coat work, with the stem coming through it? Does it have a hole in the back?
I still say Kizaru’s entrance into the story is the coolest, but Ryokugyu’s is a nice one as well, well suited to the lighthearted tone of the chapter’s end. And the tension just keeps ramping up: who is this mystical fifth admiral, who we’ve only heard about (and seen one half-profile of) before, but who can clash with the mightiest? Is he there of his own will or did Akainu send him? What’s his goal?

Great chapter! Plot progressing nicely and tidying up the lose ends, nice and clear statements from Oda regarding who people are. Art does leave a little something to be wished for, but it’s still cleaner and clearer than it was in the middle of the raid.
I give it a smile as wide as Horselina’s and a feeling of catharsis and the sweet relief of a good cry.

There’s something so intimate in the stillness of the sea, as the silence is so overwhelming you have a feeling you could hear the stars shining above your head. It would be perfect, if not the cold wind, sharp and cruel, stealing all the warmth from your body. You try to help yourself, rubbing shoulders and kicking your heels, but only a coat thrown on you brings you relief.
“You’ll catch a cold.” Izo’s voice is beaming with a smile. He stands right behind you, hands still resting on your sides, prompting you to lean against him. With a bit of hesitation, you let him guide you—and you almost gasp, feeling how warm he is.
“Like an oven,” you whisper and almost purr. It feels so good to be in his arms, so cozy and familiar, as if you always belonged there.
Izo’s gentle face is so beautiful in the dim light of stars. You can’t help but tilt your head and stare. He returns the gaze, smile curves his lips as he leans closer and—suddenly—brushes them against yours.
“Ah, sorry, I was—” He immediately tries to withdraw. But your hands, as if led by a magic spell, pull him back closer.

Oh my god everything about this from Episode 1053 was to die for. The buildup for the little “pop” noise. Seeing Izo of all people drop his ridiculous face in beautiful full color...great/ But then we get this cool still of them all together! So lively and colorful!
They have him properly with Miyagi & Tristan in the rest of the episode, but I love this scene making it look like Izo’s holding Baby Gramps Chopper. That would have been a fun pairing! Imagine him standing around, no idea who it is, just thinking “Hmm...Kiku’s surely outgrown cute thing by now (lol) but she’s had a rough night. Come with me little guy.” That’d be a hell of a way to rescue her.

The Third Gender during Edo Period
For some reason I ended discovering the term Wakashū and I started reading more about it.
TW: The following text contains history of sexual practices. I'm not discussing the morality of such practices during the Edo period in Japan, just showing you a historical fact about gender fluidness and customs. YES, THEY WERE OF COURSE UNDERAGE.
This word translated as something like “beautiful youths” was used to describe young men -barely adolescents- from the Edo Period who were eligible for sexual relations with both women and men. The wakashu are sometimes called traditional Japan’s third gender.

While reading I discovered how Oda might have portrayed the Wakashū with Izo and Kiku. This is just a theory, not a real fact of course. But since them were performing at the Kabuki stage, and Izo and Kiku come from a family of actors and dancers from theatre...

“It’s getting late, I should probably head home.” Izo whispered against your temple, placing a chaste kiss along your skin, “I’m sure Kiku is getting tired of waiting up on me.”
You groaned loudly as you writhed in his embrace, squeezing him tighter into you and refusing to let go. Izo was taken aback, you could tell, and that only made your cheeks burn hotter.
You had always prided yourself on being independent, after all. The two of you had a healthy balance of couple time and personal time, and you usually weren’t one to question it. But after two years of dating and nearly a year of sleepovers, you were beginning to grow tired of only keeping Izo to yourself for a day or two, three days at most. It was getting harder to say goodbye lately, no matter if he was coming over the following days, and the days and nights without him were beginning to take their toll on you.
Needless to say, this all made you realize how badly you wanted Izo in your home, in a more permanent setting. But how would you ask? How would he respond? Would he think you were moving too fast? Your thoughts raced with countless what ifs, making you snuggle harder into him for comfort.
He chuckled, allowing you to entrap him as he patted your head gently, “You’ve been awfully clingy today. Is everything okay?”
Of course he noticed. You eyed up at him with a defined pout on your lips. Izo had to restrain himself from kissing those cute lips of yours back into the warm smile he adored, instead he further inquired, curious as to why you were so against him leaving. It was always within the plan that Izo would head back home for the night.
“I want you to stay.” You whined, hiding your face in the crease of his shoulder to conceal your embarrassing confession. It was the truth, but clearly he didn’t pick up on just how long you wanted him to stay as he laughed lightly once more.
“Love, you know I’ll be back over tomorrow.”
“I know…”
He placed two fingers under your chin, lifting you up to look at him, “What’s on your mind?”
Damn him. How were you supposed to be honest when he looked at you like that? Your eyes dropped guiltily, “It’s nothing.”
He flicked your forehead.
“Ow! Hey!”
“That’s for lying. Lie to me again and your next punishment will be far worse.” Izo placed a gentle kiss along the wound to soothe the slight pain, “So, I’ll ask again. What’s on your mind? Be honest this time.”
“Promise me you won’t laugh?”
He placed his fist over his heart and stared at you sincerely, “I promise.”
You inhaled deeply as you took his hands in yours. Izo grew concerned as you were silent and mindlessly rubbed your thumb along the top of his hand. Just as he was about to speak up, you broke the silence.
“What if, hypothetically speaking, I asked you if you wanted to move in with me? What would you say? Hypothetically?”
“I’d say…” He pondered for a moment, “that I didn’t take you for the settling down type. Hypothetically.”
Well that certainly wasn’t the answer you were expecting. Was that his way of saying no?
“You think I don’t want to be with you long term?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“So...you just assumed we would live separately forever?”
“No! Okay, maybe that came out poorly.” It was his turn to hold your hands and rub at them in comforting motions, “I just know you like your space, and I’ve always been respectful of that. Are you sure you’re ready for me to intrude your space 24/7? Because you know...if we move in together…” He snatched you into his arms with a wide, mischievous grin on his lips, “That only opens up the opportunity for me to annoy you 24/7.”
You giggled, “Would it be wrong of me to say that I want you to annoy me 24/7?”
He beamed, and your heart swelled in your chest as you were convinced it was the biggest smile you had ever seen on his face, “Not at all. But you should be more careful with your words, because I will most definitely use that confession to my advantage some day.”
Izo’s body tingled with pure happiness as you laughed heartily and tangled your fingers in his hair. He wanted to stay like this with you forever. To think that you were offering him the opportunity was heartwarming, almost overwhelming. He pulled you down to rest your forehead against his, “I’d love nothing more than to move in with you, if you truly want me.” He kissed you lightly. “Waking up next to you for the rest of my days sounds like a dream come true.”
You chased after his lips, kissing him back, “Won’t Kiku be upset?”
Another loving kiss from him, “She’ll be fine. She’s been bugging me to move in with you for months now. To be honest, I think she’s ready for me to go.”
“So you’ve been wanting to move in together? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I was worried you wouldn’t want to. What with you being Miss Independent and all.”
“I’m sorry, I-…”
He squished your cheeks, preventing you from continuing. “Please don’t be, it’s one of the many, many things I love about you.” He kissed your puffed out lips, “I wouldn’t change you for the world. Just don’t be mad if I get a bit clingy and I can’t keep my hands off of you.” Just as he said that, his hands dropped from your face to rest on your waist. When you felt his fingers dig into your sides, your eyes squinted in suspicion.
“Don’t you dar- ah!”
You were thrown into a laughing fit as Izo tickled you into the couch, leaving you nowhere to flee. Your cheeks ached from laughing so hard, and when you tapped out, he relented with a victorious smirk. As you caught your breath, Izo encouraged you to snuggle into him, laughing as you were noticeably hesitant to do so.
When you finally gave in, he wasted no time in snuggling you close into his large torso, toying with your fingers as he made his claim, “I do have a few conditions, however.”
“And what would those be, princess?”
“Glad you asked. I require 2 hours minimum of bathroom time every morning in order to prepare for the day.”
“2 hours, really?”
“Do you think I can manage to make myself look this good in less time?”
“Fair, continue.”
“I need wall space.”
“For?”
“My sword collection of course!”
“Oh, that.” You giggled, choosing not to voice how you had already mapped out a perfect spot for his collection.
“And…”
“And?!” You looked at him with giddy disbelief.
He grinned at you as his fingers grazed your cheek, “I want you to kiss me and tell me you love me every single night before we fall asleep. No matter what kind of day we’ve had.”
You were captivated by the pure love reflected in his eyes. You hoped he could see your love for him reflecting right back as you smiled, “I believe your conditions can be met.”
“Wonderful.” He nuzzled his nose against yours, “But…”
“Don’t say it.”
“Love, I have to go home to pack!” He frowned as he noticed you pouting once more, “Hey, look at me. Tomorrow is the last morning you’ll ever have to wake up without me, I swear it. I’m going to spend all night getting things packed up and tomorrow, we’ll start our new chapter of infinite sleepovers. Wait for me until then?”
You nodded and he brought your lips up to his to kiss you passionately, praying that you could feel just how ecstatic he was to begin this new chapter of your lives together; how often he’d dreamt of the idea of waking up to your beautiful face every single morning. He had full intentions to pack all night long, but he also needed an excuse to browse the jewelry stores early in the morning. Just to browse of course, but Izo has always preferred to be one step ahead.

Grand Though Line
Continuing to reread Dressosa has been helping me to piece together a neat trick Oda consistently does to help the stories between arcs flow together as well as they do.
The basic idea is, Luffy and the Straw Hats often deal with similar things to what the main allies/enemies from the previous arc(s) did. And in the finale of each leg of the journey, many of the ideas all return at once.
In the case of Wano as the previous arc, The Akazaya, Beast Pirates, and Big Mom Pirates all lost/were separated from their leaders, and ideas of your ties to your family, found or blood, can be either liberating or restricting, is big during Wano, and well as Dressrosa and Whole Cake Island.
-Rebecca chose to live with Kyros, some members of the Grand Fleet have these ideas worked into their arcs, and there is so much relevant to these themes around Doffy’s relationship with his father and with his crew.
-Big Mom’s dream caused so much strife for her family, as did Judge’s dream for Sanji. Though characters like Chiffon and Praline, while they left the Charlotte family behind, found happiness with the people they met while part of Big Mom’s crew.
-Oden took in the Akazaya and gave them a home and a place to belong, though readily fled from anything that got in the way of the adventure he so deeply wanted, splintering that family in the process. However, as a result, Izo did find a place among the Whitebeard Pirates, one where he felt most at home. And Kiku may have similarly found that place apart from Wano as well, maybe among the Straw Hats?
-Kaido offered anyone who joined him a chance to rise to the top of the world’s summit, though ultimately concerned himself only with might. He could not hope that pirates would not betray him, he could not hope that humans would not fear him, he could not hope for a world without violence. To Kaido, hope is a weakness but he could not be further from being right, hope is a strength.
It’s fitting then, that his defeat was at the hands of an alliance that was formed on peoples’ hope to see the dawn that Kaido couldn’t, who relied on each other and built connections, not through might, though with skills that Kaido would scoff at for being weak.
-If anyone, including his crew or own kid, got in the way of crushing that hope, they were viewed as enemies who Kaido needed to forced into servitude until they lost all hope.
Many of these themes have made themselves known on Egghead, though the arc is still ongoing, it’s tough to say what the ultimate point will be.
I’ve had the idea that only Luffy may be separated from the crew in the back of my mind, since just a few chapters after arriving on Egghead. With characters like Kizaru, Sentomaru, and the Pasifistas being here, the Sabaody parallels were becoming evident from early on.
This idea of these wide reaching through lines carries all the way back to the East Blue, with the most prominent thematic through lines I see being those of status - Luffy wanting to be Pirate King, Zoro wanting to be the World’s greatest swordsman, Alvida and wanting everyone to see her as the most beautiful, Captain Morgan and Kreig both seeing themselves as the greatest, etc.
Accepting/rejecting the legacy of another - Luffy/Shanks, Zoro/Kuina, Sanij/Zeff, Buggy/Roger, etc.
And dishonesty/lying - Arlong about freeing the village, Kuro about who he is, Nami and Usopp having to deal with the consequences, while also lying to themselves in ways significant to their stories.
In the Paradise half of the Grand Line, the biggest through lines I see relating to what the Straw Hats face involve contrasting different styles of leadership - Luffy, Vivi, Dorry & Brogy, Wapol, and Crocodile.
How power is used - Bellamy, Enel, Tom, Iceburg, Franky, and CP9/Spandam.
And the threat of your crew falling apart - Usopp & Robin during W7, Moria, the Straw Hats being separated on Sabaody then dealing with the fallout of that from Amazon Lily through the events following the Paramount War.
