A very important element in my book for children. This illustration will have a lot of protagonism.

Flag Day, June 14th, because that is the day the Continental Congress first described our flag. Francis Hopkinson had designed it. Individual colonies had been using their own independent flags and continued during the Revolutionary War, but on December 3, 1775, the first flying of a "National" flag aboard a Naval Ship hoisted by John Paul Jones happened. The Grand Union Flag as it was later called, considered, our first national flag, had 13 stripes with the resemblance of the British union Flag where we know have our stars. It was also at the time called the Continental Colors, the Cambridge Flag, the Congress Flag and the the First Navy Ensign. On June 14, 1777, on what would become Flag Day, the Continental Congress established the image of a country that was being established by: "Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation." Francis Hopkinson's had been drawing flags an emblems, some of which were adopted. His Navy flag showing 6-pointed stars in rows, with 13 stripes, with the outside ones red to be easily seen at sea. His National Flag had the stripes reversed with the white stripe on the outside.. The Navy Flag stuck to become the National Flag as adopted by Congress. Many of us know the Betsy Ross flag with the 13 stars in a circle. It became famous during America's Centennial celebration. A researcher for the Smithsonian, Grace Rogers Cooper said the first documented use of it was 1792. The exact pattern of the stars were not specified until 1912. There were uses of some very unusual flags during the early history of the United States. © 2020-2021 Clifford Olsen/250YearsofLiberty #OTD #AmericanHistory #liberty #250America #250YearsofLiberty #flagday #kidshistory #🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 https://www.instagram.com/p/CQG92RKBs1c/?utm_medium=tumblr

It all begins with a wall...
I have always loved stories. From a very small age, telling stories has felt very natural and right to me. Whether playing with toys alone or outside with friends, ideas, imagination and inspiration have always been there.
Stories are what make childhood exciting, as well as, from early on, building our picture and understanding of the world. Without stories we cannot hope to dream of new and better things.
I have a story to tell and as I sit here on a Saturday morning, it will not let me sleep before I have begun to tell it.
It is a story which will span centuries, millennia even. Taking us from the time of giant beasts that roamed the plains, while pockets of humans fought to survive (NOT dinosaurs!). To the might of the British Empire, storming across the seas and taking all without looking to the consequences.
History is the greatest story of all and through a series of books, I am going to tell it; not through the eyes of adults but the dreaming, determined eyes of some very strong children.
This is the story of us...
It all starts with a wall.
