ALSO just to follow up on the fact that keeley has been openly bisexual since season one and her relationship with jack is no surprise to rebecca or her exes!! rebecca showed no surprise when keeley told her jack was waiting for her with a private jet to go to norway (plus we know she probably told her all about the details earlier) AND more importantly leading to my next point, when roy said “i think keeley’s got a girlfriend” there was no surprise from jamie. jamie knew. because keeley told him she’s bisexual when/before they were dating. (and cuz jamie told her he’s bi too)

I have to say, watching Keeley’s storyline with Jack gave me flashbacks to an emotionally abusive relationship I had with a rich ex girlfriend. She lovebombed me in a similar way before she treated me like crap around her higher society friends and family. I kissed her at midnight at a New Year’s Eve party and she shoved me off of her since she was embarrassed to be seen with me (regardless of being out of the closet). Her behavior changed on a dime if I argued with any of her condescending friends or family when they were rude to me. She would withhold affection and put me down with a smile. We were together for two years and some change. The Keeley/Jack storyline rang very true to me.

What I’m getting at is, I think it’s just as important to show the way same sex relationships can turn toxic in the same ways that hetero ones can. While it shouldn’t be the only rep, Jack is a very real type of person. Keeley has been openly bi since season one and is wonderful rep. I think their break up showed that women aren’t “safe” just because they are more familiar. They can judge, be narcissistic, and hurt their girlfriends in the same ways men can. I know some people have issues with the only sapphic relationship being a toxic one (and I do get that), but I personally think it’s an important example of emotional abuse in a sapphic context.

this is exactly what i need (more of) from roy x jamie! like, a bit more so from roy because he is so repressed. about everything. and his temper is something that affects all of his personal relationships. we have had three seasons of immense growth from jamie. he is one of (if not THE) most self aware character. it’s roy’s time now. and this moment may have been small, but it was a big step for him!!

@disasterbijamietartt & i had a convo on one of my other posts and if we ARE going to get royjamie (or honestly even if it’s just platonic), roy is going to need to have some major development/self realisation. because jamie deserves better. jamie has been victim to enough anger in his life. and i believe that royjamie could really help both men open up and be more vulnerable with each other and with others.

if we go back, keeley x jamie made keeley realise she deserved accountability in a relationship. and thereafter helped jamie become accountable.

keeley x roy helped keeley to be less apologetic for needing space and embracing her want for a balance of independence & intimacy in a relationship. it also helped roy to realise that he’s had unrealistic expectations of other people and himself — and a tendency to take things personally, which wasn’t fair to anyone. realising that helped him forgive/restore some peace (or truce lol) with jamie when him & keeley were still together.

so, if they continue with keeley x jack and/or actually make roy x jamie a thing…i think it could provide a wonderful opportunity to help roy overcome his anger and how he takes it out on other people. we’ve already seen how jamie’s support has (begrudgingly) opened him up more than once. and with jamie’s lack of judgement and being more gentle with roy — AND the other way round, with jamie spending so much time with roy (i think quality time is one of his love languages) we have seen so much more of him!! his little factoids, how he acts when he’s comfortable around someone, and (sadly) more about his childhood traumas.

which has also made roy start to realise how much anger/aggression has traumatised jamie in the past and also how he is trusting roy with this information. which means roy has an opportunity to reflect, apologise, & work on his temper with jamie.

i think where their relationship is going is so beautiful & important already. i love how comfortable they’re getting with each other and i would absolutely lose it (/pos) if they gave us roy x jamie and did it right. let them be open & communicative with each other!! give us that emotional growth & maturity and peel away that toxic masculinity and repression that is so intertwined with both of them in sports culture & in being queer professional footballers.

(plus then colin wouldn’t have to be a spokesperson cuz he wouldn’t be the only out player on the team.)

no but i just have to keep talking about it actually

because i am convinced that the keeley/jack stuff is intentional. she's broken up with roy. them getting back together now isn't feasible, because their circumstances haven't changed, and aren't going to change. and they keep throwing these suspicious red herrings in there, like keeley thoughtfully observing roy from across the room, or going on that soft little tangent about how jamie is different than he used to be. but getting back together with jamie would be a narrative step backwards for her. roy and jamie are the usual suspects, but they don't make sense.

and then... in comes jack. they have a literal meetcute. immediately, keeley is stricken into wide-eyed staring, breathless flirting, nervous giggling and rambling. they keep finding each other across the room, gravitating into each others' space, shooting each other these tentative smiles. keeley watches her while biting her fucking lip, for god's sake. it's being written like a romance. all the beats are there. THIS is the fresh start keeley's been looking for.

i'm telling you. if they don't kiss by the end of the season, i'm buying everyone here a round of drinks.
