Oh, the pain of this scene and the reality behind it, the difference between boyfriend and husband, between sharing a life together and being able to legally bind yourselves together. The agony of knowing that you are literally everything he has and that it is not enough to let you help him.
Tumblr media
This is why we need legalized marriage for everyone, this is why the legalities matter, this is why we fight for what we can because it matters in the end, it matters so, so much.
Tumblr media
Piseang can do nothing because there is nothing legally tying them together and there is nothing to do. He cannot fight this. He cannot love Kawi enough to overcome this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love is not enough. Love does not give him the rights he does not have, does not cut through red tape, does not open doors. Love may light his life and love may be beautiful and love may move mountains but love cannot make the choices he needs to make.
Tumblr media
Love cannot make a medical decision or give him permission to stay with Kawi. Love cannot open the doors or let him sign the paperwork. Love cannot do anything. Love is not enough. The freedom to love is not enough.

Drunken Kisses & Mixed Feelings
Kawi has now kissed Pisaeng twice and each of those times he's been drunk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We know that Pisaeng was okay the first time it happened (eyes open; face relaxed),
Tumblr media
but something is different this time around. He's confused and conflicted (eyes closed; brows furrowed).
Tumblr media
Going back to the trailer, we see that they get into an argument after the second kiss. My guess is that Kawi getting drunk and kissing Pisaeng has happened more than a couple of times in this timeline (this might be especially true now that we know Kawi is an alcoholic who is very unhappy in his personal life).
Tumblr media
Pisaeng has been fine hanging out on the sidelines as Kawi’s friend and "comfort zone" but it’s really difficult to do that when Kawi keeps crossing the line. Pisaeng has had enough and it will all come to a head in the next episode and I am looking forward to seeing it.
As a reprieve from the angst, it looks like we might also be getting a drunken kiss attempt from Pisaeng after Kawi has asked to date him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Such a great callback to our runaway groom's first drunken kiss—the one that started it all.
Tumblr media
Is it next Friday yet?!

Very interesting to see Be My Favourite touch on the concepts of mistakes and negative consequences in a way that suggests unavoidability. Up until now, we've largely seen Kawi running around to fix his mistakes and every failure is framed, at least by Kawi, as not fixing the mistake 'correctly,' which he then returns to the past to do.
The first hint of this was in the previous episode where we saw that despite recieving the life-saving surgery, Kawi's father still passed away. They go further in episode 9 by showing us the fall out of how he and Pisaeng get together.
The significant feature of this, however, is that Kawi tried to do everything the right way. He had scheduled a date to break up with Pearmai and he'd only confessed to Pisaeng after panicking that he was leaving the country. The fact that he hadn't managed to break things off with Pear cleanly first was out of his control.
Sometimes we try to do everything right and it goes wrong anyway. Sometimes we try to do our best for someone but they still get hurt. Sometimes we try to make the right choices but we miscalculate the consequences. But that doesn't mean we should stop trying. Life is messy, nothing is fully under our control, and sometimes all we can do is muddle through in the right direction and have faith that the people around us are muddling right next to us.
Being honest, owning our mistakes, and hoping that others understand that there was no malicious intent, is sometimes all we can do.

Haven’t been able to stop thinking about the scene between Pear, Kawi, and Pisaeng in EP.7 because I'm starting to believe that Kawi was having an affair with Pisaeng…. not sure how else the writers expect me to interpret it. You’re telling me that right when Pear and Kawi break up, Pisaeng suddenly decides to disappear from everyone’s life… and that’s not meant to mean anything??
Am I meant to ignore how awkward it gets the second Pisaeng walks in? How the smile on Pisaeng’s face drops the second he notices Pear’s suitcase?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
How sullen Pisaeng looks as Pear walks out? And how GUILTY Kawi looks back at Pisaeng??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene demands us to overanalyse.
Maybe it was more emotional than physical, but I think Kawi started to drink more to have the excuse of “I only did it because I was drunk, they aren’t my true actions”… an excuse Pisaeng would easily accept if it meant they could continue what they're doing because it's an excuse he's used himself. Kawi was the one who wanted to talk about their kiss in EP.6. Pisaeng was avoid it because, I believe, he was worried Kawi would ask him to "not be so close to him" (again). So, in the future, as they continue to develop their "relationship", all while Kawi dates Pear, it's not hard to imagine that Pisaeng quietly endured a lot of pain in order to just stay by Kawi's side and keep loving him (as stated in the OST 'Unable', which Pisaeng sings to Kawi).
But, of course, Kawi STILL feels guilty every time he seeks Pisaeng out so he drank more to suppress this, starting a never-ending cycle that has led to his addiction.
It makes sense why Pisaeng chooses to run away. I'm sure he believes he's the reason Kawi and Pear broke up. And I'm sure he hates that a part of him may not care if Pear resents him because the happiness he felt being with Kawi, no matter how short, outweighed any rational thought.
Gosh, this future sucks. It's all so... wrong. Kawi went from having nothing in the original timeline to "having everything" and still ending up miserable.

I think be my favorite is a bit of an underrated gem. The chemistry between Gawin and Krist is adorable. The ending is so sweet. The whole story is very well paced imo ( which is rare) and the way the show handles topics like coming to terms with who you are, learning and growing, how to treat your fellow humans and queerness overall really well. And the way Kawi and Pisaeng grow into their relationship felt pretty realistic. It's just such a cute, queer feel good show🥺

Drunken Kisses & Mixed Feelings cont'd
In my last post, I talked about how Kawi's penchant for kissing Pisaeng while drunk might lead to the argument that prompts Pisaeng to say this line:
Tumblr media
To my point, @captain-xandis dropped an absolute gem of an analysis in the tags about this scene:
Tumblr media
#i totally think this is why kawi stops pisaeng from kissing him in the past #their argument in the future might go along the lines of 'every time we've kissed you were drunk' or something like that #and kawi not wanting to make the same mistake again will only kiss p when they are both sober
This sent me spiraling so I'm hopping back on the meta train once more. Wanna come with? Stand clear of the closing doors. The next stop is...
Why did Pisaeng go AWOL?
Max tell us that Kawi knows/is the reason why Pisaeng goes off-grid, but we never get an exact answer. So here's my two-point theory.
Emotional Exhaustion
In the scene before the second drunk kiss, Pisaeng remarks that Kawi hasn't been free to hangout in last three years? Well, that got me thinking. During the last three years, has Kawi only gone to find Pisaeng when he's drunk and in need of comfort (and kisses)?
Being someone's "comfort zone" can be emotionally exhausting, especially when there is no reciprocity and the comfort-seeker is your longtime crush who is currently in a relationship with your childhood friend. Needless to say, the internal conflict and resulting emotional toll is strong in this one, which brings me to the second point.
Guilt
We know from the 8-year flashback scene (anniversary of Pisaeng's confession) and Pisaeng recalling the day Pear broke up with Kawi that he goes to their apartment often (he even has a key card) which is why this look between him and Pear gave me pause.
Tumblr media
Pisaeng's facial expression goes from slight shock to what looks like guilt when he realizes that Pear is leaving. On the other hand, Pear's body language (the way she releases and tightens her grip on the suitcase handle) tells us that she's angry but not surprised by Pisaeng showing up at this exact moment (the fact that she's standing between the two of them in this scene also says a lot).
Tumblr media
Then we see her facial expression. She is visibly angry but there's something else. She definitely knows about Pisaeng's feeling for Kawi and their more-than-friendship situationship (her knowing about Kwan and Not alludes to the fact that she's always aware of what goes on behind her back).
Tumblr media
And if that wasn't enough, when Pear leaves the apartment Pisaeng ends up being flanked by Kawi on all sides but is closer to a larger-than-life picture of Kawi while the real Kawi still remains (romantically) out of reach like he's been for the past twelve years.
It's no wonder our boy needed to get away. It no wonder he was feeling conflicted during that second kiss. It's no wonder that he will finally reach his limit and cut Kawi off?
Tumblr media
And as @sparklyeyedhimbo points out in their post, it's no wonder Kawi is so distraught when returns to the past and is determined to "set everything right" because he simply cannot bear the thought of losing Pisaeng again.
Is it next Friday yet?!!

So I finally got to watch the new episode of Be My Favorite and while I definitely agree with everyone’s interpretation of Kawi being ace (I definitely think he’s likely on the ace spectrum somewhere, just where I’m not quite sure) I don’t necessarily think that’s what they’re going for.
Both Kawi and Pisaeng are on opposite ending of the “virgin spectrum” (yes virginity is a largely social construction but bare with me).
I definitely for the vibe that Pisaeng is a virgin as well, especially since his mother mentions that Kawi is the first person he’s ever dated. Pisaeng however, is the kind of guy who had imagined what it’s been like to have a boyfriend, to date and be in a relationship and yes, have sex with his boyfriend. He is eager because he finally has the chance to do all of that and it’s with Kawi, who Pisaeng is absolutely in love with. He is eager for something and someone in a way that I don’t think he’s been in a long time. So he decides to jump in head first and just go for it. Is his methods awkward as all hell? Yes, which is another reason I think Pisaeng is also a virgin like Kawi.
Kawi however, is afraid. He claims he’s not but he is. The amusement park date proves that. The rollercoaster being a metaphor for sex. He doesn’t want to get on because he’s scared, even if he holds onto Pisaeng the whole time. Kawi may be from the future, but he has spent all of that time fantasizing about what it would have been like to be with Pear. He is only now developing true feelings of romantic love for someone and that someone is not Pear. He’s been in love with the idea of Pear and a relationship with her for 12 years. The whole time travel thing started because he wanted the chance to go back and be with her. He’s been repressing his desire for so long, he doesn’t know how to let it out, so he lets his fear overwhelm him.
It’s a holding pattern through much of the series. Kawi thinks one thing in particular, gets confronted with the fact that it’s not the right choice for him to make, he gets scared and tries to run away from the decision/person/situation, realizes he can’t and swallows his pride/fear and does the thing anyway. He did it with Pear, he did it with his father and now he is doing it with regards to Pisaeng and specifically sex with Pisaeng.
This is why I think the episode had to end with the two of them having sex, whether it’s deserved or not. A big part of Kawi’s journey has been about facing his fear, about not letting it control him or his life. So when he realizes he fucked up the date with Pisaeng, a lightbulb finally goes off in his head (credit to Krist because his acting in on point for that scene. You get to watch just though his facial journey, he realized how he screwed up). He realizes that he is letting his fear control him again. He has to at least try sex with Pisaeng. If he doesn’t like it after all, then it’ll be something for them to discuss in the future.
That’s not say he feels backed in a corner or anything. He knows that if he pumped the breaks on sex and decided he was never going to be ready/want to have sex, Pisaeng would do his best to make sure he always feels okay about his decision. Again see the dinner part of the date where he asks Kawi if he fucked up and how he can fix it. I think Pisaeng was worried he was being too pushy and he kind of was, but it was needed in a lot of ways. Kawi was getting caught up in his own head again and whether Pisaeng realized it or not, he needed to say the things he did for Kawi to realize that he was falling into his pattern again.
P.S. Pisaeng definitely travelled to the future when he turned the snow globe. I’m not sure what he saw but I’m worried it’s not gonna be good considering it’s ep 11 and the episode 11 curse is still alive and well.

I think if we would have gotten a conversation between Kawi and Pisaeng right before they got intimate at the end of the episode, I would feel better about how the conversation around sex was handled this week.
I appreciate what the show was trying to go for when discussing how some need sex, are reluctant, aren't interested in it, etc. But it would have been a little better if:
Kawi discussed how he doesn't really desire sex, but that it is something he is willing to try with Pisaeng (especially because I gathered he was somewhere on the ace spectrum at the beginning of this episode)
Pisaeng reassuring Kawi that they'll take things slow/sex can be lots of things that don't involve penetration/etc. as this man is more than willing to do anything for Kawi anyways (just look at the double meaning with "Would you like to get on top instead then?")
What they want, don't want, and are willing to try with each other
They don't necessarily need to hit all the points I listed, but 30 to 45 seconds of dialogue before the check-in and consent would have made the final scene that much more impactful after the build-up to that moment throughout this episode.
