it’s been eight years and i’ve finally been called cou on where “‘there’s a whole nest of vampires living in my town and going to my high school but nobody believes me about them even though they don’t try to hide it, and they don’t see me as a threat, and their hot douchebag teenage son’s human girlfriend won’t stop lording my insignificance over me like she’s so fucking great’ AU” came from
(though technically that reading is still also an AU because in order for it to REALLY be “Twilight from Jessica’s perspective,” SMeyer would’ve needed to let Jessica—or, indeed, ANYONE but Bella and Edward—exist as an actual character with dreams and goals of their own, rather than a plot device wrapped up in a very convincing person-suit, who only exists insofar as they enable or impede the great white cishet Mormon-but-not-overtly love story SMeyer thought she was telling)

…sighs heavily I just …a thirteen year old kid just started following my main blog like, they're only a year older than my middle godchild (elder goddaughter; my godson is the oldest of the three of them and he's fourteen), they're eleven years younger than I am (almost twelve years since I'll be 25 in February), and like? on the one hand, a lot of the confused and mildly distressed flailing going on here is just that the roles have been very reversed and I'm not the bb in my little corner of online fandom anymore, and this is actually really important to me for one reason that is hella nerdy and one reason that isn't (the non-nerdy reason is that younger fans are teenagers and while a lot of the older ones, like the 15ish-17ish age group, are often really mature and they can talk in depth shit like anybody else in fandom who's not a minor anymore — and actually, quite a few of the younger fans I know in around that age range are better at being adults than a lot of the so called adults I know in some parts of fandom — but they're still bbs, they're still going through puberty and the total Hell of being a teenager and they need to be protected from the older fans in any fandom who might try to take advantage of them. like a certain jerk named A*ndyth*anfiction, for example. …the nerdy reason is that fandom bbs won't stay bbs forever, which means that they need to learn fandom history and culture and basic decorum like "don't tag your hate" and "don't be a douchebag" and "don't like, don't read — but that only works if people warn for things or at least use the 'choose not to earn' disclaimer option" and, "this isn't fucking battleship, you don't have to shit on anyone else's ship to make your fave ship happen," etc. and they need to learn that not only so wank happens a lot less but also so that fandom history doesn't totally die and disappear.) on the other hand, though, it's like… they have some disclaimer on their blog about how they want people to stop getting on their case about how they're thirteen and they're almost fourteen so everyone can shove it, and like. with regard to their sexual orientation? totally valid. if you've got that figured out by thirteen, good for you, that's legitimately amazing and I'm honestly glad that you know yourself that well and have the chance to know that part of yourself …but you are still thirteen and I'm still nigh on twenty-five and in graduate school and writing a Master's thesis. and my main blog… is often not really a thing that I would actively share with a minor because, littered among all of the "I'm so sad about Motel California and Skittles feels" gifsets and Pokémon fanart and pretty gradients and my periodic crying over my various celeb-crushes and whining about how being an adult is hard and I suck at it? uh, there's kind of a lot of NC-17 shit? or at least R-rated shit?? and I'm just so torn right now between, "I want to be a responsible older fan and protect the bb fan from people who'd take advantage of them in fandom" and, "…I'm not sure if I can get busted on corrupting a minor over you being here or not and this is… kind of concerning for me tbh? :/"

me: “I hate turning off anon, because as someone who has social anxiety, I get that people are shy and sometimes, it’s easier to use the anon option than not, and apparently, I can be intimidating and I still don’t get why but I’ve heard that more than once, for several years at this point, so…”
the “said Harry, bisexually” post: *starts racking up a fuck-ton of notes again*
me: *turns anon right the fuck off before I can get any nonsense wank about literally anything related to that post, oh my god, it is years old at this point, why the fuck won’t it die already, I don’t have the time or spare energy to invest in people asking me shit anything about that post or telling me that bi!Harry isn’t canon like I am not keenly aware of this fact or demanding to know how I could ever dare take notes in the margins of my personal books that belong to me*

………*headtilts at my activity page*
it is literally just a silly modern AU headcanon about how I want Shiro to have a dog and how he would so spoil the crap out of her after adopting said dog, and it now has almost ten times as many notes as it did yesterday
I just…… don’t understand? I’m not complaining by any means because I’m perpetually desperate and I love attention, but oh my god, that headcanon is so silly, are we all seriously that desperate for Shiro to just be happy and safe for once in his frigging life?? we will latch onto literally anything that gives us that, even if it’s totally ridiculous???

“why would you romanticize Pansy Parkinson when [insert criticisms of Pansy that would be totally fair if they were not bashing her to lift up and deify Astoria, like that’s super feminist]”
—yeah, well, you’ll forgive me if I don’t take seriously the prescriptions of people who valorize Draco Malfoy for doing the absolute bare goddamn minimum to “redeem” himself (never mind erasing the fact that he was excited about being a Death Eater and only changed his tune when he turned out to be really bad at it), and ignore Marcus Flint’s entire canon personality in order to justify shipping him with Oliver Wood (when Flint was a smarmy bully, an easily-bought elitist, and a Blood Purist, at least in that he sure doesn’t object to Draco throwing around, “Mudblood,” like we’re supposed to hate Pansy for, in addition to not allowing girls on the Slytherin Quidditch team, though that is, in fairness, only explicit in the movies)
Like, if you want to hate Pansy, then fine, I can’t stop you and it’s fair enough to dislike her or any other character — but don’t act like your reasons for it are ideologically pure when you ignore all of the scant characterization that Flint got in order to have a white boy slash ship with Oliver (when, hey, Percy Weasley is right there, or Fred and/or George, or Harry, or Cedric, or Viktor……), and especially not when you erase all of Draco’s shitty actions and traits, including the fact that he was an actual Death Eater, and over-woobify him as though he’s NOT one of the biggest bullies and Blood Purists in the series

Just when I think I am out of people to block because they decided that it was totally necessary to come yell at me for how I take notes in MY copies of the HP books, which are mass-produced, non-special editions that belong to ME and not anyone else, but oh yeah, I totally need to be yelled at because OMG THOSE BOOKS ARE SACRED, THEY ARE LITERALLY SOBBING RN, HOW COULD YOU BE SO HEARTLESS AS TO TAKE NOTES IN A HARRY POTTER BOOK, YOU ARE BASICALLY UMBRIDGE, etc. etc. this is garbage……? ha ha, nope, there are always more of them :)))

Did I just browse the “jake gyllenhaal” tag because I saw that and “betty cooper” trending, and clicked the latter, thinking that maybe, it wouldn’t be full of the ship that shall not be named because even its ship name is gross, then it was, and I literally clicked the first other trending tag I even remotely recognized to get the taste of a notp out of my mouth? ………Well, I mean, now I’ve gone and put in too much detail to plausibly deny it, but I don’t have anything clever to say instead of, “yes,” so I’m just gonna quietly go back to alternating between tormenting my characters and rereading one of my old favorite romantidrama shoujo manga series

On one hand, I love the different lists of LGBTQ musicians that go around periodically.
On the other hand, I always look at the, “Feel free to reblog and add more!” notes at the end and kind of feel like, “Should I add these LGBTQ artists who I like or no? Did they get forgotten, or were they purposefully left off because they’re too mainstream and/or (usually) too old and/or everyone already knows that they’re LGBTQ so who cares about putting them on these lists?? Or because nobody cares about old school metal, no matter how gay it is???”
(Granted, the metal thing only applies to one band on my list — said band being Judas Priest — but idk, given the genres of a lot of the bands on these lists, the disclaimer, “They play heavy metal, they’ve been releasing music since the late 60’s, they allegedly weren’t making new music but that’s apparently changed, not that it matters, because when the new album comes out, probably none of us will be able to afford their concert tickets” seems like a fair reason for concern, to me)

Well, I did not figure out why, “Heath Ledger” is trending, but thanks to how many posts there were featuring Jack Nicholson in a purple suit and makeup (allegedly playing The Joker, but… no. No, he did not play the goddamn Joker. He played the same caricature that he had been playing since The Shining, but in a purple suit and makeup. He was doing the, “Let’s get J*ohnny D*epp to phone in a cheap imitation of Jack Sparrow and call it good” bullshit when D*epp was still a Tiger Beat heartthrob), and J*ared L*eto as the nauseating, ableist, edgy mcedgelord abomination that he tried to pass off as, ““the Joker,”” at least I no longer care.

It’s not even noon and some people I disagree with have made me feel compelled to defend someone I actively hate (largely because she’s a high and mighty, passive-aggressive, cyber-stalking ableist racist, who uses false equivalencies to make her bullshit arguments sound great and preaches about respect being a cornerstone on which fandoms are built while refusing to accept any accountability for her actions — which is, y’know, a part of that whole, “respect” thing — and demanding to be shown respect without showing it to others) I mean, they’ve only made me want to defend her because although she is pretty awful, she’s not a pe*dophile or an apologist for pe*dophilia, and I dislike how those terms are getting thrown at so many people, to the point that they have, in some contexts, started to mean, “person I disagree with in a context that is vaguely related to relationships with age gaps and/or the age of consent” So, it’s less about her specifically and more about, “ffs, you are using those terms to talk about things that are not actually covered by their definitions; this trivializes pe*dophilia and CSA more generally, and it helps to makes these terms nigh on useless, which in turn helps to enable actual abusers in multiple ways; you are not helping by throwing these words at anyone whom you remotely disagree with, so can you please, please, please stop doing it” —But she is still involved (and in her case, it’s a lot like, “ffs, there are ACTUAL reasons to hate her for things that she HAS ACTUALLY DONE, like harassing neurodivergent survivors over her OTP and her vendetta against a biracial Latinx main character while they were talking about their experiences with suicide and attempting it, and cyberstalking a 19-year-old black girl who asked her, a 30+-year-old white woman, not to use the N-word; you do not NEED to call her a pe*dophile when she ISN’T one. She’s bad enough already, so stop misusing that word jfc” Just……… ugh. This is so messed up that I can’t even properly vagueblog about it. Anyway, the point is that I hate saying anything that could be misconstrued as nice about An*dartha, but I also hate it when words like, “pe*dophile” are thrown at people to whom they don’t apply over the latest incarnations of disagreements that have gone on for decades (if not centuries), because they are actually about issues to which there are no easy answers, not about CSA

Literally no one asked for your hetero opinion I just. For fuck’s sakes, one of the notes I took a photo of for that post has the phrase, “Harry said bisexually.” Another one has the phrase, “Harry said, just as bisexually as before.” Of course it’s all a joke, are you fucking kidding me. It’s a lesbian going, “Fuck you” at canon by mocking JKR’s idea that Harry can only ever be heterostraight, and going, “lmao no, he is The Bi Who Lived, I like that phrase so I’m totally using it now” because fuck you, that’s why. Additionally? WOW, way to be a biphobic and homophobic asshole with your, “looool I can appreciate a good looking woman, that doesn’t mean I want to mess with her” rubbish. Way to characterize same-gender attraction as being all about sex, and making it sound more than a little bit predatory besides. So, like I said. Literally no one asked for your hetero opinion.

*wastes four hours writing a 4k essay about something important to me and getting really emotionally worked up, then deletes it because of a simultaneous belief that on one hand, I might be wrong and could lead other people into being wrong too, and on the other, no one cares or wants to hear it anyway so trying to say shit anything will just make people angry but not in a way that leads to a meaningful discussion or any positive change, so shut up, self, and just go fuck around with your novel or Photoshop or something, lmao :)))))*

@derekslaura It was, but I looked in the tag and they’re not just talking about it. They’re full on doing it all over again, with new gifs and everything, and I’m just like, “.........why. this was embarrassing enough when we did it the first time :/”
