"Yes, both (BJP and the Congress) have tried reaching out to us,” confirms JD(s) party senior official
After the majority of exit polls predicted a hung assembly in Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal Secular on Thursday stated that they have started feeling signs of need from the Congress and Bhartiya Janta Party. Even though Mr Kumaraswamy is in Singapore, the senior official of the party had cleared that the decision has been taken for whom we should partner.
senior JD(S) leader Tanveer Ahmed during an exclusive interview with a leading news channel said, "The decision is done. It's taken. We will announce it to the public when it is the right time to."
On the other front, the Bhartiya Janta Party has cleared that it has not reached JD(S) and continued to exude confidence about a clear mandate.
BJP's Shobha Karandlaje was also a part of the interview during which she said, "no question of coalition at all, the BJP has not contacted the JD(S)".
"We are sure to get 120 seats. After gathering information on ground from our karyakartas yesterday, we have arrived at a number -- 120," she added.
When questioned about BJP denying the fact, JD(S) stated that the party has indeed reached out for forming a joint government.
"Yes, both (BJP and the Congress) have tried reaching out to us... The JD(S) is in such a position today that parties would like to reach out to us," said Tanveer Ahmed.
"The people of Karnataka wants us to keep check on both national parties for the betterment of the state. And I don't think there's any reason why a regional party wouldn't want to work for the development of Karnataka," he added.
when asked about their choice of party to partner with, Tanveer said, "The people who are going to work for the betterment of Karnataka and Kannadigas".
Answering a question about the number of seats the party has won, Tanveer said, "Nobody can form a government without us. That's a good number, I think. We could not match the resources of the national parties in terms of money, might, muscle. We were a weak party. But we know we performed enough to be a part of the government".
The JD(S) chief is in Singapore undergoing treatment for his bad health. he took the reign of the party after party patriarch HD Deve Gowda.

Hey there! I was surprised that your OC Ivy is actually Indian as well! Can you tell me something more about her? :)
Hi! Thank you for your ask :))
I'm actually Indian too, so I totally wanted to make an Indian OC! I never really saw any until yours and I was pretty surprised too. I must say it gave me some motivation to make my own.
Anyway, here's Ivy! (I'm still figuring out her lore, so some of these MAY change in future lol)
About my COD OC, Ivy "Vampire" Valentina Salvador de Almeida
Basics
Ivy is the only daughter of Salvador and Helen de Almeida.
She was born in India, in the state of Goa, on the outskirts of Madgaon and lived there for a few years before moving down south to Karnataka, where she spent her formative years. Her teenage and adult years were spent in Liverpool, England.
She can speak Konkani and English fluently, while she has partial fluency in Portuguese and Kannada
She's a devout Roman Catholic
Her personality type is ENFJ
She's a tall girl standing at 5'7"/170 cm! Always stood at the back of the line for school assemblies. She inherited her height from her dad.
She's a WO2 Drill Sergeant in the British Army and serves in the Infantry Training Center where she trains infantrymen in basic and advanced skills.
She's nicknamed 'Vampire' from her slightly long canine teeth, all natural.
Personality
Being an extrovert, she enjoys company and doesn't like being alone.
She's normally quiet, but if she does speak, she's charismatic, genuine, and charming, and this often got her into quite some leadership positions in school and university, and allows her to very easily make friends.
Drinking makes her talkative, and even flirtatious, but she'll have to drink quite a lot to get to that point.
She has a strong sense of justice, and cannot stand it if innocent people are needlessly harmed. Being a drill sergeant gives her a little power to execute justice if needed.
She's optimistic to a fault, often getting bogged down by reality sometimes.
Her restless, adventurous spirit makes her hate being in one place. She enjoys travelling and doing highly thrilling activities like bungee jumping. She can also be quite reckless; give her a motorcycle and she'll be popping wheelies and even drifting.
Being an only-child, she can be quite selfish and bossy, though most of it was beaten out of her during her basic training.
Likes and Dislikes
She enjoys cooking and baking and can make a variety of dishes.
She loves reading historical accounts and all sorts of fiction, especially thrillers and mysteries. Her favourite novel is 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. She also enjoys Dostoevsky's novels
Her favourite Indian food is Mysore masala dosa and English food is Scotch egg
She hates milk tea and extremely spicy food (her Indian card is always at the risk of being revoked)
She loves anything that has garlic in it, though her favourite would be garlic bread
Her favourite dessert is apple pie
An area that has her whole heart is the Western Ghats
Her favourite color is phtahlo green
English Ivy
Her father is an adventurous man, so he took his family hopping around a lot from Goa to Karnataka, and eventually to England, where his wife got a job as a nurse.
Ivy and family moved to England when she was around fifteen years old, and settled in Liverpool.
Getting used to England's cold and gloom was a nightmare for poor coast born Ivy who loves the sun and heat. She can comfortably tolerate 30-35 degrees C like most Indians, but absolutely suffers through English winters despite eventually getting used to it.
Her years in Liverpool eventually bestowed upon her the glorious Scouse accent, though hers has an Indian lilt to it.
She had a hard time adjusting in English society, especially as an extrovert and a teenager, and often felt unwelcome in school. However, her university years were much more pleasant.
Do not talk to her about the Indian food in England. She will not hesitate to begin her TED talk.
If there's anything she actually does like about England, it's the abundance of pubs. She loves to drink, but considering how reckless she is known to be, she's surprisingly a responsible drinker and rarely lets herself get blackout drunk.
I've yet to think about her interactions with TF141, but that's all about her for now!
Wow, I really did infodump on you lmao. I hope it was an interesting read ^^ I'm excited to develop her some more and make more Ivy content <3
Thank you again for your ask! Have a great day/night :)

Saving our sarva janaangada shaantiya thoTa
sarva janaangada shaantiya toTa
rasikara kangaLa seLeyuva noTa
hindu kraistha mussalmaana
paarasika jainar udyana
(A tranquil garden belonging to all communities
Forever enticing the epicurean's eyes
Hindu, Christian, Muslim
Parsi, and Jain- a park where truly everyone prospers)
"With our heads held high and Shoulders straight, lets us all stand up and sing the state anthem" the comperer would announce and all of us, on cue, would stand in our school assembly, reciting these very same lines threaded together by the Raashtrakavi, in the same tune, with the same intonation, every Saturday, for years on end without ever bothering about what they meant.
It never really occurred to us to ask the meaning of these complex words because we never felt the need to do so. We knew what the naadageethe signified and what values it stood for. We knew what legacy the Rashtrakavi was entreating upon us to cherish and carry forward and we knew that we didn’t have to know the meaning of these lines to be able to understand and imbibe in ourselves the principles that we wanted our state to reflect.
But today... today we are standing at another time, called upon to gather at another assembly under the school of our state's destiny- and now it is more important than ever for us to once again recite these lines, renew our vows and ask ourselves- What does Karnataka mean to us? What were the ideals that we were guided by when we all chose to unite under the colours of red and yellow, where have we reached and What plans, thoughts and ideas do we have for the future of our beloved Karunaadu?
Growing up as tiny tots running around and chasing butterfly dreams in this garden of secularity, the one thought that all our minds were imbued and indoctrinated with was – Indina Makkale Naalina Prajegalu. Today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. We would be told, in classrooms and lecture halls and seminars by teachers, leaders and elders that the destiny of our state was a gift that would be bequeathed to us at the opportune time.
And that time has now arrived. Tomorrow, for the very first time in our lives, we will be called upon to decide for ourselves what Karnataka we wish to live grow and prosper in. A weighted responsibility no doubt. And tomorrow, when we once again, filter into long queues and assemble outside government schools to exercise our franchise and decide the destiny of our state, we should take a moment and ponder upon whether the Karnataka that has been thrust upon us, a Karnataka which has been cast under the shadow of communalism, which sits and shivers under the Damocles sword of corruption and which fears the erasure of it’s language culture and community, is truly the same Karnataka singing about whose glory our hearts would swell in pride.
We were taught to embrace everyone with open arms, and today we are being made to turn against our own sisters and brothers. We were told to be honest, upright and law-abiding citizens, but today we are being made to hang our heads in shame to offer under the table commissions. We grew up being nourished by the milk of the matronly Nandini and today she faces the threat of our infidelity.
Along with all these changes, there has also been another monumental change. Nenneya makkaLu have today become naadina prajegaLu. The Karnataka of today may be a vastly different place than the Karnataka of our childhood but now we have been entrusted with the responsibility of and vested with the power to develop, design and reimagine this garden of ours. It is now in our hands to decide which seeds to sow and which weeds to plough.

Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Advocates Bill, 2023
This article on 'The Karnataka Prohibition Of Violence Against Advocates Bill, 2023: All You Need To Know' was written by Tosani Lal, an intern at Legal Upanishad.
INTRODUCTION
In light of recent events where a corporate lawyer was assaulted by a cyclist, this road rage incident occurred on the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. Another similar incident occurred when a mob of about twenty members assaulted a couple of lawyers with a sword. In the year 2020, a lawyer was kidnapped and murdered for personal rivalry. These events have raised alarming concerns about the protection of advocates in India. Therefore, the Legislative Assembly of Karnataka has decided to introduce a bill that aims to protect and punish against any violence committed against advocates in India.
THE KARNATAKA PROHIBITION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST ADVOCATES  BILL,  2023
The bill was drafted with the aim of safeguarding the lives of the advocates and punishing those who commit any criminal offence against them. Advocates play a significant role in the legal system. It shall be pertinent to note that even other key players in our Indian legal system, like the judges or the police, have been given protection by the law, but there seems to be no law for the protection of advocates. As a result, the Basic Principles on the Role of Lawyers were adopted in accordance with the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crimes and the Treatment of Offenders, held in Havana, Cuba, with the goal of accelerating international cooperation in crime prevention and criminal justice. Clauses 16 to 18 of this Declaration state that lawyers shall be given assurance by the government that all their duties and performances with respect to their professional service will not be threatened, hindered, harassed, or interfered with in an improper manner. They shall be given the liberty to commute to their clients freely, whether within the territory of India or outside Indian borders. They shall be prevented from any form of sufferance or intimidation with unnecessary legal actions like prosecution, administrative, economic, or any sanction made with respect to any action taken by them with regard to recognition of professional duty, standard, and ethic. As per Clause 17, it states that in terms of the security of lawyers in question, it may be due to intimidation that might be caused while they are discharging their professional duty, and then it shall be the duty of the authorities to make sure that they are adequately safeguarded. Therefore, after keeping these important provisions in mind, the legislative assembly passed the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Advocates Bill, 2023, on February 23, 2023. The main object of the bill was to protect the advocate from being targeted by any form of violence or threat of malicious or frivolous prosecution by any party who tends to have ill intent towards such an advocate and who has tried to interfere and cause disturbance to the advocate in the course of their professional duty, which also causes an obstruction to the administration of justice itself. As discussed in the resolution of the Eighth United Nations Congress on the Prevention of Crimes and the Treatment of Offenders, Havana, Cuba, the legislative assembly has drafted the following in order to safeguard the interests of the lawyers. Section 16 of The Karnataka Prohibition Of Violence Against Advocates  Bill,  2023, states that the government should ensure that the lawyer’s performance with respect to their professional functions shall be executed without any form of threatening, obstruction, harassment or any kind of improper interference. Second, there can have any mode of communication with their client whether, through travel within the Indian territory or outside without any form of obstruction caused to them. Lastly, advocates shall not be aggrieved by action that tantamount to threat, malicious prosecution, issues with administration, economic sanctions or any other kind of sanctions with respect to any actions that they have taken to in pursuance of their performance as lawyers, and within the purview of their stand and ethical concerns. Apart from this, Section 17 of the aforesaid bill also states that in case there has been any kind of incident where the security of the lawyer is compromised in the course of discharging his professional duties, it shall be the duty of the authority to make sure that the aggrieved lawyer is adequately given the requisite protection. THE IMPORTANT FEATURES OF THE BILL
According to the bill, an advocate is one who pleads on behalf of a party before a court, tribunal, or authority, and this includes the police, who are given such authority by such an official institution, as well as the treatment given to such an officer of such an institution. As per the bill, violence is defined as any form of activity that has the potential to cause danger to the advocate’s life, cause any kind of grievous hurt to the advocate, or is threatened to cause obstruction in his performance as an advocate with respect to any pending case in court, tribunal, or any similar institution. With regard to punishment for the offence relating to Advocate, it provides if a person has been proven to commit an offence which violates the provisions of this bill, then they shall be awarded an imprisonment of three years which shall also be subjected to extension of six months to three years or couple with fine that may extend to Rupees three lakh. The Judicial Magistrate of First Class is empowered to try all the cases relating to violations of this bill.
CONCLUSION
The legislative assembly passed the Karnataka Prohibition of Violence Against Advocates Bill, 2023, with the intent to safeguard the advocate from any form of criminal activity caused by another party in the course of the advocate performing their duties. Although the provision of punishment is provided in the bill, the provision with regard to the compensation of the aggrieved advocate shall also be incorporated in order to address the grievance of the advocate.

‘Will win 150 seats’: Rahul Gandhi's prediction for Congress in MP election
Gandhi addressed the media after the party's 'election preparedness meet' in Delhi, attended by top Congress leaders, including party chief Mallikarjun Kharge.
Tumblr media
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday predicted that the party will win 150 out of 230 seats in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly election later this year. “Karnataka election result will be repeated in Madhya Pradesh,” Gandhi told reporters after the party’s meeting on election preparedness.
“We had a detailed meeting just now, and our internal assessment indicates that after securing 136 seats in Karnataka, we are now projected to win 150 seats in Madhya Pradesh,” Gandhi said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
In a video shared by ANI, when asked about the Congress party’s chief ministerial candidate for Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi chose not to provide a direct answer but emphasised the party’s goal of winning 150 seats.
Kamal Nath who served as the state chief minister during Congress’ short-lived government in the state between 2018 and 2020, said, “We discussed the strategy and the issues on which the party should contest these polls. We are all of the opinion that we will enter the poll fray unitedly.”
Preparing for upcoming elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh
Besides Rahul Gandhi, Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, met party chief Mallikarjun Kharge to discuss the upcoming assembly election in the state.
According to news agency PTI, Rajasthan Congress leaders were also slated to convene in Delhi, including chief minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot.
Both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are set to hold elections by the end of this year. Currently, Rajasthan is under the governance of the Congress party, led by Ashok Gehlot, while Madhya Pradesh is governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with Shivraj Singh Chouhan serving as the chief minister.
Congress promises for Madhya Pradesh
Congress, last week released a list of ‘five promises’ to the people of Madhya Pradesh ahead of the assembly election:
1. Gas cylinder at ₹500
2. ₹1500 to every woman per month
3. 100 units of free electricity, 200 units halved
4. Farm loan waiver
5. Implementation of old pension scheme
Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh had earlier said that Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath is poised to be the party’s chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2023 assembly election.
The assembly polls are expected to take place at the end of the year. In the 2018 elections, the Congress emerged as the largest party and formed government under Nath’s leadership. But in 2020, Nath was forced to resign after his government was reduced to minority due to resignation of 23 Congress MLAs owing allegiance to Jyotiraditya Scindia. The BJP later formed the government under Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

"Nothing is beyond humanity. Politics too," Siddaramaiah says as he talks about Operation Kaveri
Operation Kaveri is in its full swing as the third batch of 131 students was rescued from the worn-torn county of Sudan. The former chief minister of Karnataka and senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that he was criticized for his voice seeking help for the Indians in Sudan as the foreign minister accused him of doing politics on the matter. "Nothing is beyond humanity. Politics too," Siddaramaiah wrote.
On Monday, the Indian government launched Operation Kaveri to rescue Indians in Sudan. the country is facing an internal war where the Sudanese Army and paramilitary groups are fighting. A transit facility is being organized in Jeddah where the Indians will be put up till the time they are brought back home. The operation is further being supported by the Indian Navy as INS Teg will arrive at the Sudan Port on Thursday to ferry the Indians home. The ship will have additional officials and essential relief materials.
As the Karnataka Assembly elections are just around the corner, the response from the External Minister caused a political rift. For the uninitiated, S Jaishankar snubbed Siddaramaiah for 'doing politics' when several lives are at stake.
"Simply appalled at your tweet! There are lives at stake; don’t do politics. Since the fighting started on April 14th, the Embassy of India in Khartoum has been continuously in touch with most Indian Nationals and PIOs in Sudan. Plans regarding them have to take into account a very complicated security scenario. The Embassy is in constant touch with the Ministry in that regard. It is grossly irresponsible of you to politicize their situation. No electoral goal justifies endangering Indians abroad," Jaishankar replied to Siddaramaiah's tweet last week.
After the controversy was stirred, the External Ministry took action, and after speaking with other countries whose nationals were stuck in Sudan and organizing a high-level meeting with PM Modi, Operation Kaveri was launched.

BIZARE COMMENTS BY INDIAN POLITICIANS
Politics is the way that people living in groups make decisions. Politics is about making agreements between people so that they can live together in groups such as tribes, cities, or countries.
According to Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey, ‘virgin’ means the same as ‘unmarried’ and ‘pure’, and hence Patna's Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences did “nothing wrong" when it asked applicants to declare their virginity.
BY NANDINI SINGH:"There is a saying that when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. That is exactly the position which you are in," KR Ramesh Kumar, the former Karnataka Assembly Speaker, said on Thursday, drawing guffaws from the members, including Speaker Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri.
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy Wednesday made news with his reaction to the ‘black buffalo’ comment against him by former BJP MLA Raju Kage as he said that he does not have the habit of “waxing” his face every day like Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “These people (BJP) say even if I bathe 20 times a day my black buffalo colour will not go. Yes, I am not like your Modi who comes out every morning after waxing his face. I love to live with poor people and I do not wash hands after touching poor,” Kumaraswamy said.
