I couldn't settle for a movie but decided for a pilot of short lived series (pilot + four episodes) named The Quest from 1982 as well. Cast: Perry King - Dan Underwood Noah Berry Jr. - Arthur Henley Ray Vitte - Cody Johnson Karen Austin - Carrie Welby John Rhys-Davies - Sir Edward and many more 

Story: The sovereign state of Glendorra has a problem. It seems that through an old agreement with France, unless there's a monarch, the country would revert to France. And the king has no heirs. So, they found four Americans who are descendants of one of the former rulers. So they are sent out on a "Quest" to show if they have the qualities necessary to be a ruler. It won't be easy cause they go forth with no idea what to do, and their information is given to them through poems which they find hard to transcribe. (from IMDB taken) I'd say Glendora reminded strongly of Monaco, because of this agreement with France mentioned and well, they were in Europe, obviously. Strangely enough, as Dan Underwood, Perry King could fly a helicopter - and of course ride a horse. Too bad I could only find the pilot on Youtube, I'd love to have seen more episodes. Or at least all of them.  And as it was, the ladies were falling for Mr. Underwood.  

This was Perry King’s contact to Stephen J. Cannell and with that led directly to Riptide two years later - with some facial changes. ;-)

#late night horror #the corpse can't play #horror tv #missing tv #1968 #bbc #lost tv #john burke #hugh leonard #paddy russell #clare austin #frank barry #samuel burleigh #mark colleano #erin geraghty #kim goody #neil hallett #beverley jennings #karen newport #michael newport #brent oldfield #christine pollon #late night horror was an attempt by the bbc to produce a horror anthology in colour adapting pre existing short stories. it was not a #conspicuous success; the first series of 6 episodes was met with lukewarm reviews that grumbled the series was either too horrible or not #at all horrible enough (such is art). no second series appeared. there was a repeat showing around 1970 and then the tapes were junked as #was standard practice (alas). happily this single episode was recovered by kaleidoscope from private hands in 2016 and has spent the last #couple of years being cleaned up and getting colour recovery work on it for a release. and it looks great! stunning‚ considering the flaws #of the unrestored copy (the disc contains a very interesting feature on the restoration). sadly no sign of the other 5 episodes as yet. #we can but hope. as horror tv this is a little obvious but well played (a fine young cast to be sure) and suitably nasty in its conclusion. #more an item of (great) interest than a genuinely great piece of tv‚ but kaleidoscope's release includes a wonderful book on the series
