Fandom: Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous Pairing: Ben x Kenji Rated: T (?) Plot: Kenji was weak. Years have passed and now he's sneaking around with his best friend...while still dating his girlfriend.

I'm baaaaaack!! For like, a lil bit cause I got an even coming up. But, I wanted to write something because I'm so excited for the last JW movie and season of JWCC. Please enjoy!

He panted into Kenji’s mouth, both breathless from the kiss.

Kenji’s brown met his gray blue, and his heart skipped a beat.

Their lips met again—

“Kenji?” Brooklynn called from the kitchen.

“Damn it.” Kenji whispered. “I have to…”

“I know.” Ben said, grabbing his face and kissing his cheek. “I know.”

“I’ll come find you later.” He said and slowly pulled away, fingers lingering on his lover's shoulders.

“My door is unlocked. It always is.” Ben said reassuringly.

Kenji blushed and nodded, leaving to meet his girlfriend, Ben left hidden behind the staircase.

Of course he knew this was wrong.

Of course he did.

But fuck…he was a coward.

He had been a coward for six years.

“Kenji?” Brooklynn asked from beside him. “You okay?”

“I’m cool. I’m great even.” He said and slammed another shot.

She nodded and kept chatting with Sammy.

It was a bi-yearly thing for the Camp Fam.

Meet at a lake house in summer and winter, and just relax together.

While they text and video chatted and even dropped by, this was a full week of living together like they did as teens.

Ben smiled at Darius, and he squeezed his shot glass until Ben glanced at him.

He made sure no one was looking at them before he ran his tongue over his upper lip, Ben looking away quickly and drinking from his glass.

“Ooh, Ben.” Sammy said. “Slow down, Honey. You’re blushing like your drink.”

“It’s really good. Love the pomegranate soda you put in this, Brooklynn.” He praised.

“I’ll remember to bring more of that Korean soju. I thought Sammy would like Blushing Rose since she loves alcoholic soda.” She teased and the girls laughed.

“Ooh, I think I do need to lay down.” Ben said, smiling and touching his cheek.

“I’ll help you. Don’t want you to run into a wall, Jungle Boy.” Kenji joked and led him upstairs.

He cradled the back of Ben’s head to protect him from the hard wood of the door, feeling it on his knuckles as he kissed him softly.

“Kenji…” He moaned and they paused.

Kenji stared into his eyes, pressing his forehead to Ben’s.

“You should go.” Ben whispered. “It’s been too long.”

Kenji shut his eyes and shook his head.

“Please…not yet…”

“Kenji…” Ben nearly whimpered.

“I…I’m so sorry, Ben.” He said and Ben cupped his face, kissing his lips softly.

“I know.” Ben said. “But I can wait…I don’t want to…I’m a bad friend.”

“I’m worse.” Kenji said. “I…I’ll text you?”

“Yeah. Night.” He said, pecking his cheek.

Kenji smiled and left the room to see Yaz waiting, leaning against the wall with her arms crossed.

“Yaz!” He said. “Hi—”

“I didn’t want to believe it.” She said, not looking at him. “How could you…”

“I…” Kenji looked away. “I love him.”

“What about Brooklynn?” Yaz hissed, looking up at him. “This will…”

“I know. But I can’t…Yaz, I will break it off, soon. I promise.”

“With who?” She asked.

Kenji stayed silent at this and Yaz shook her head, walking away.

It had happened a few months ago.

He and Ben had been texting and he had confessed he had a crush on them as kids.

Ben had been silent a few days and Kenji grew worried, texting him every opportunity he got.

Then he got a phone call around two am and he was still gaming while Brooklynn stayed over.

“Ben? Hey, it’s like four am…hold on.” He said, sliding out of bed, Brooklynn sleeping peacefully.

He heard sniffing.

“Ben?” He asked. “Hey, why are you crying—”

“Me too! I liked you so much and I should’ve…I should’ve…” Ben sobbed. “I’m sorry, Kenji! I’ll…I’ll call later!”

He hung up, leaving Kenji stunned in his living room.

Kenji felt his heart skip a beat, confused at the feelings he had. He felt his face warm and he sat.

What?

Two days later, he was a little spaced out as Brooklynn was talking to him.

“Kenji?”

“Mm?”

“You okay?” She asked.

“Yeah.” He said. “Just thinking.”

“About what?”

“Something private. Sorry, Brook.”

“It’s okay.” She said and patted his arm. “Want some coffee?”

“Yeah.” He said, watching her walk away and felt horrible imagining Ben with messy bed hair walking back with said coffee and sitting next to him.

“Kenji?” Brooklynn asked and he blinked away the image of Ben.

“Sorry. I’ll lay down for a bit after this.”

“Want me to join your little cat nap?”

“Um…not this time.” He said and walked away with his cup.

Now he saw Ben stretched on her side, cuddling that Bumpy plush Sammy and Darius had made him. Big blue eyes blinking up at him as he smiled and held a hand out.

He shook his head and laid down.

Sleep came with its own problems.

He had Ben in his arms as a teen, kissing him softly and smiling as Ben’s cheeks and exposed shoulders flushed red.

“Kenji.” He said and it felt good to hear his name spoken with such adoration.

He blinked and now Ben was taller and aged to his current twenty one, hair slightly longer and brushed back, body now with lean muscle, but still shorter than Kenji by half a foot.

Kenji cupped his cheek, long lashes closing and lips saying his name again.

Their lips met again, and he felt Ben’s long fingers in his hair as he pulled away, rosy lips saying

“Kenji?”

He woke to see Brooklynn smiling down at him.

“Nice dream?”

“It’s…I…I’m still tired!” He said and rolled over.

Brooklynn huffed and smacked his hip playfully.

“Tell me what’s wrong, you butt. I wanna help my boyfriend.”

“Brooklynn, please.” He pleaded.

“Okay.” She said, voice even. “I’m going home then. Please rest up, Kenji.”

“Okay.”

“I love you.” She called.

Kenji felt horrible when he pretended to be asleep.

He called within the hour.

“Hey…we need to talk. I can be there—Now?!” He yelled and heard the doorbell ring.

When he answered it, there was Ben, looking nervous, but not ready to bow.

“Th-there was a conference in San Diego, so I—”

Kenji yanked him inside and pulled him into a kiss. Ben didn’t hesitate and soon they were in his bed, hands everywhere and lips rarely separating.

“Kenji…stop!” Ben pushed him back. “We can’t…”

“I was a coward!” Kenji yelled. “I wanted you too but that’s not…my father would have never allowed it.”

“Kenji. We—”

“I know.” He said. “I know but…Ben…”

Ben nodded and pulled him close again.

Now here they were.

He sat near the window in an armchair, looking out at the lake, fireflies around the glass.

He heard the door open and close.

“We need to talk.” Brooklynn said and he turned.

She sat on the bed across from him, sniffing.

“Is it me?”

“What?” He asked.

“I know we don’t have a physical relationship and you’re a guy.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa…” He said and put his hands out, standing. “Brooklynn there is nothing wrong with your sexuality—”

“Then why are you cheating on me?!” She yelled, shutting him up.

Kenji clenched his jaw. “Because I suck…”

“That’s not an answer I need.”

“…I…I…” He looked away. “I didn’t…I didn’t want to hurt you, but I did.”

“…oh my god…” She whispered. “Do you want to break up?”

Kenji sighed.

“Yes.”

She sat and sniffed.

“Brooklynn—”

She held up a hand. “No. No, not…”

She chuckled and shook her head, then looked up at him with watery eyes.

“It’s Ben.”

Kenji’s eyes widened, but he nodded.

“It’s always been Ben.” She said with a sigh. “Kenji?”

“Yes?”

“We’ve known, haven’t we?” She asked, wiping her eyes. “Just two kids who paired up cause of stress and hormones and the belief…”

He kneeled in front of her, taking one of her hands in his.

“I am sorry.”

Brooklynn looked at their hands, silent.

“I don’t think I can see you right now.” She said. “But I love you and I want us to be friends.” But I need time after this.”

She cupped his cheek with a free hand.

“I know you’ll make each other happy.” She said. “So man up and say it.”

Kenji bit his lip and nodded, taking a deep breath.

“Brooklynn, I think we should break up.”

“I agree.” She said in a shaky voice. “I had fun.”

Kenji hugged her. “Me too.”

“Now go get him.”

“What?”

“He left for the airport.” She said and took his keys from her pocket.

He took them and paused, both sharing a sad, but meaningful look.

“Well?” She asked. “Go get him!”

He nodded and ran out to the living room.

“Kenji?” Darius asked as he quickly shoved his shoes on and went outside.

He ran to his SUV and stopped when he saw a figure in Ben’s car, the headlights on.

Kenji walked over, hearing gravel from the driveway under his sneakers and crickets. He tapped on the glass, Ben turning to him in shock and wiping at his face. He unlocked the door and got out.

“Kenji—mmph!”

Kenji had pulled him into a kiss, arms going around him. It didn’t take long for Ben to kiss him back, going lax in his arms, eyes shutting.

“You better take good care of him, Kenji!” Brooklynn yelled from the patio. “You hear me?!”

Ben pulled away, blushing and looking from Kenji to Brooklynn and back.

“Wha—”

“I’m single. Want to be my boyfriend?”

“I—Yes!” He nearly shouted and yanked Kenji back into a kiss. *

Brooklynn smiled and sighed.

“So…” Darius said as he walked to her side. “Need to talk?”

“Sure.” She said. “Get the girls and put the coffee on.”

“We’re gonna be in the guest house!” Ben yelled.

Yaz rolled her eyes and Sammy gave an awkward smile before turning to Brooklynn.

“You okay?”

“It’s been a time coming, I guess. And no. This wont affect the camp fam. Just a new version, I guess.” Brooklynn said. “Its always been a different love. Very different from…oh, come on! Stop eating each other’s faces and go already!”

Ben and Kenji separated.

“Sorry!” They chorused.

“We’re still giving them shit.” Darius said.

“Mmhm.” Yaz hummed.

“I mean, we’ve kinda knew…”

“Sammy!” Darius and Yaz said together.

Brooklynn snorted a laugh, seeing Kenji and Ben walk hand in hand to the other cabin.

She would heal, she told herself. She would so give both of them crap from years to come and totally tease them when they got married and adopted some kids, but…she would heal.

SEASON 3 IS FINALLY COMING!!!! What a fun season to storyboard on! And besides my work on the monorail + pteranadon chase in season 1, this season has my absolute favorite, FAVORITE scenes I boarded for the whole show.

Follow up to this post about how jurassic world being much more interesting if mutant powers were invovled. Now with a focus on the Camp Cretaceous kids.

How interesting would it be, if everyone of the kids had powers but were trying their best to hide it from the others.

First up is Brooklynn whose power is going unnoticed (think kagerou daze). Which explains how, in the first episode, they managed to get to the raptor cage despite being two seconds from being caught. It also mirrors her character and her obssession with staying relevent and staying seen if her powers literally make her unseeable.

Her using her powers in episode one mean Darius and Kenji know, but her powers could also make it so they didn’t notice her using it.

Speaking of those two, Kenji’s power could be empathy, or maybe even a level of telepathy. Which would explain why he has the most emotional scenes where he tells people what they need to hear, an impress feat when he’s also the best at putting his foot in his mouth.

Telepathy could also explain why he wasn’t surprised by Sammy’s betrayal, because he already knew about it. Either power (or some combotion of the two) could also be why he’s so good at lying, because he knows what people want to here.

If Sammy can speak to animals, that could explain why manticore specifically went after her to spy. What better why to get details on the animals than by using someone that can talk to them? Of course, you can’t talk to animals that don’t want to talk to you which makes handling the canivores impossible.

It’s a little similiar to Owen’s from the last post, but I think her’s is just talking to animals rather than being similiar to animals.

I think Yaz would be the only one to actively despise her powers, and I think that would be because her power is superspeed. She doesn’t want to have superspeed, because it feels like cheating. She’s fast, and she wants to be fast on her own merits damnit.

Of course, the one time she wants to use her superspeed, when they desperately need to get to the boats, she hurts her ankle and can’t.

Ben could have a couple powers. He could be able to make pocket demisions, explaining how he can pull endless supplies out of his pouch. Or he could be unkillable (think Klaus). Which could go to explain why he’s so terrified all the time - he died as a kid, only to come back, and his mum never wanted him to experience the stress that that caused. So she kept him away from anything even slightly dangerous. When he’s older, she realizes she might have over reacted and tries to help him open up again by sending him to camp.

It’d also be fun if he could do both, I do so like the idea that the scared, meek kid is actually one of the most powerfully inclined.

Last, but not least, there’s Darius. I actually have zero ideas on what his power could be. Possibly super smart. It could also be that Darius doesn’t have powers. The only one in the group without a mutantion (unless you count common stress as a power, which the rest of the group does).

Maybe he develops one on the island, as he works desperately to save his friends. Or maybe he really is just, normal. It could be a very fun dynamic either way.

Got really bored and ended up reading the 1st season of the jwcc novelization. Here’s some details I noticed.

Darius rubs his necklace to feel grounded :(

Kenji is described as “tall guy”

KENJI HID BEHIND BROOKLYNN WHEN THE COMPY ATTACKED THEM IN THE CAR LMAOOO. Ok but in the show he hid behind Yazmina… interesting.

Yazmina was just as amazed at jw as Darius was

Kenji stopped calling Darius junior when he became the leader

Kenji sprayed bugs with cologne lmao

Carnosaurus gate slammed down on Darius’ back not right in front of him

Darius hit Kenji with his shovel to make him stop talking

Kenji hit the glass while Ben was driving the gryosphere lol

Yasammy team up super early on

Ben described as “slender boy”

Darius flashback skipped

Eddie’s birthday hat was in the Indominus’ teeth…

Sammy calls them “camp family” not “camp fam”

Bumpy tried to warn Yaz and Ben about dino

Kenji drove a monorail at the ripe age of 8

AND THEY HAVE A PIC OF HIM ON THE CONTROL PANEL SAYING “BANNED FOR LIFE” LMAOOO

Kids weren’t afraid to die fighting Toro

big life things happened/self improvement things going on but i want to get inspired for jwcc and keep writing so. small headcanon post!

brooklynn is very detached from her dads, perhaps they are also influencers so she joined that business to get validation from her fans when her parents couldnt + a way to still stay connected to them

ben has 2 mothers, his biological mother remarried a JW employee after a divorce which is how he got in

darius rarely played games before his dad’s death, only playing w his brother, but after it became a coping way esp after the JW competition was announced

kenji has been stood up by his father (think adrien agreste) multiple times bc his dad was too busy. he’s always felt uncomfortable in large crowds of the upper class bc it reminds him of the fronts everyone has and how nothing in his life has been genuine

sammy’s hectic lifestyle has her in the more responsible and reliant role, a source of joy for her younger siblings as their farm business started declining; she’s looked up to a lot

yaz lives with only her mother, super ambitious bc thats how she grew up competing for her father’s affection before he left their lives but reclaimed being competitive for her own sake

Whatever you do, don’t think about Darius staying close to his mom and brother 24/7 and them just pulling a family hug everyday.

Don’t think about Darius being conflicted about the memory of his father because the dream they shared of going to JW did not turn out as he expected.

Don’t think about Brooklynn wanting to continue with her channel to move on but all her viewers want to know about is what happened in JW.

Don’t think about Brooklynn watching her follower count go down when she refuses to answer these questions.

Don’t think about Sammy being worried about Mantah Corp because now the information she collected is worthless and her family is still plagued with debts.

Don’t think about how Sammy’s family never said goodbye to her before she left to Camp because she never told them she was going (in ep.6 she says they didn’t know she was going until she was already at the ferry) and when the news about the Indominus started spreading they thought they might never see her again.

Don’t think about Ben having nightmares about Bumpy and the weeks he spent alone in the jungle.

Don’t think about how he flinches everytime he hears screeching.

Don’t think about Yaz getting back into track but now she feels extra cautious about her ankle.

Don’t think about Yaz losing the only best friend she’s ever had.

Don’t think about Kenji going back to his father’s mansion and wandering alone through it.

Don’t think about Kenji going back to school and realizing what a jerk he was to everyone before Camp.

Don’t think about how they all live in different places and don’t have each other for company anymore.

Favorite Moments of Season 2 ATTENTION: SPOILERS

you have been warned...

So, lets start talking about season 2. As the title implies, this will be a list of some of my favorite moments and things about season 2. The list will be a little disorganized in that I won’t be going in order of episode.

1. The dinosaurs stampeding away from Ben, Kenji, Yaz, Sammy, and Bumpy doing a complete 180 at the mere sight of Rexy. That was perhaps one of the most insane moments to me, and I loved it. The herd of different species, many much larger than Rexy or certainly capable of standing their ground, simply said NOPE, and high-tailed (see what I did there) it out of her direction. Even the Pteranodons weren’t safe. I guess that whole “stand together” ideology from Disney’s Dinosaur doesn’t apply here.

2. All of the friendship moments/interactions. I know that character shipping is largely subjective, especially when there isn��t any canon pairings (yet, I say hopefully), and that shipping doesn’t necessarily imply a romantic pairing (sibling dynamics, parental dynamics, actual friend-shipping), so, in my case, these are the interactions I enjoyed seeing that I didn’t take as romantic. The interactions between Yaz and Darius was great, really felt that sibling dynamic there. Same with Darius and Sammy, it was cool to see them share common interests and have differing opinions, as well as seeing them work together. Kenji had some great interactions with Yaz and Brooklynn, offering his apparently sage wisdom and advice to them, as well as just being an understanding person. We finally got to see the girls hang out together and it was awesome, from Brooklynn feeling left out and opening up about her nonexistent social life to finding common ground with Yaz and Sammy. And of course I can’t forget about Ben straight up calling Darius ‘kid’ and Darius about to call him out on it. Gave me a chuckle.

3. The scene where the gang sans Ben and Bumpy finally tuck into a legit breakfast had me rolling.

4. The conflict between Brooklynn and Darius over the thing she said. What can I say, I enjoy some good angsty conflict between characters, and I think it got resolved rather well.

5. Brooklynn basically becoming a second-in-command/de facto leader in the later episodes. I was thinking that Kenji would’ve been this, but I feel that he actually plays off better as being largely a support role in the group, and it shows. Brooklynn and Darius in my opinion are the ones who really seem to take charge among the group in terms of overall decision making, with others playing to their own strengths. This can lead to some conflict between Brooklynn and Darius (ep 4), but when they come together, they work beautifully together (ep 8). Again, my opinion.

6. Ben’s fight with Toro. When I first saw the screenshot of Tarzan Ben and grownup Bumpy, I didn’t know what to make of it, except for telling everyone who predicted such an outcome ‘congratulations, you successfully predicted what would become of Ben and how he would reintroduce himself to the group”. But watching the ‘Ben Alone’ episode allowed the transformation to grow on me. Then his battle with Toro was the icing on the cake. I am a sucker for a good ‘person with primitive weapon vs much larger and very dangerous animal’ fight. And seeing a grownup Bumpy was cool as it was seeing B&B tag team Toro.

7. The fact that they acknowledge the Compies are venomous like in the novels. Makes the whole ‘how could a group of rat-sized dinos take out a full grown man’ scene from The Lost World much more believable.

8. Brooklynn rescuing Darius from Mitch and Tiff with a gyrosphere, then Brooklynn and Darius having a strong heart to heart with each other. Also Brooklynn calling him out on his heroic sacrifice. While I do love it when a character feels like they have do something of that nature, I really love it when characters with a strong bond with said character comes in a snaps them out of it. Sometimes it does not make sense to do a heroic sacrifice. Plus, them riding away from the dinosaur stampede in the gyrosphere is a neat callback to their season 1 experience in a gyrosphere in the middle of a dinosaur stampede. Also, their banter while stalling Mitch and Tiff was gold, and the elbow on the shoulder... If you haven’t noticed by now, I really ship these two characters.

9. Kenji, Sammy, Yaz, Ben, and Bumpy coming over the ridge, making noise, and booming Dave’s mixtapes to scare off the dinosaurs from the watering hole while Brooklynn and Darius smugly stall Mitch and Tiff was awesome sauce.

10. Mitch and Tiff getting eaten by the dinosaurs they ticked off. Note to self, don’t stick a taser in a T. rex’s nostril nor kill a member a Baryonyx pack or any dinosaur social group. JP/JW’s dinosaurs are apparently veery vengeful.

11. Rexy trying to devour Sammy and Darius. It was nice to see her actually be a giant, predatory, and indifferent force of nature instead of an anti-hero for once, not that I mind her anti-heroics.

I think thats it, if there’s more then I’ll just make a follow up. Next topic will either be a detail on my ships in season 2, a write up on some things I may not 100% love, or whether my predictions for season 2 held up or not. Also, I might do some season 3 predictions.

Season 3 Theory Time!

So, here's what we know:

We might have 2 more seasons, Netflix caps its animated series at 5, but the minimum is about 2-3, so fingers crossed.

Darius and Kenji's relationship isn't resolved and we can't end the group's harmony there.

There's something on board the boat.

There is technically 2 1/2 years left until Sibo blows. (See timetable next)

We still have an incoming legacy character from Jurassic Park

The mosasaur has been released into the ocean.

What we can hypothesize

The Adam's rib scene wasnt dated. We dont know if it happened 6 months after the Jurassic World incident or right before Sibo's eruption. So for all we know, this is still within canon.

The mosasaur or a storm can dock the kids at another of the Five Deaths

We still have the Isla Sorna Spinosaurus

This is still one of the best received Jurassic properties. They can still milk this.

JWCC Season 4 Review

So, since I have finished season 4 of Camp Cretaceous it is time to give my review of it. This review will not be spoiler free so if you haven’t watched this season turn back now and prepare yourself for a while ride full of emotions. Just be thankful that the read more option exists, because this is going to be long.

First things first, the dinosaurs. They were all really good and I loved them a lot, seeing Big Eatie and Little Eatie interact was really sweet, which made manta corp’s shit hurt. Angel, Rebel and Firecracker were all really sweet and they are now my children. Pierce was really cool and it was nice to finally see the spinosaurus and dilophosaurus again. But, they were barely seen. Camp Cretaceous is meant to be about dinosaurs and yet the dinos always felt like they were thought about last. We barely got to see them and it was honestly very upsetting. If only they didn’t kill Murphy the compy, then the camp fan would have at least had a Dino companion. That being said, that scene with Bumpy broke my heart and made me cry. She thinks that Ben abandoned her and that hurts so much.

The new villain that they introduced, being Kash, is just a grown toddler with anger issues. He really wasn’t scary and the only thing I was worried about when it came to him was him punching Darius. He wasn’t threatening at all. I want the kids to beat him up. The most threatening person this season was his boss, Daniel Kon, who is Kenji’s father, and yet he was only included in the last 2 episodes.

The other new character, however, is one of the only truly good things about this season. Her name is Dr Mae Turner and she is my wife now. She was just really quirky and sweet and naïve and it was obvious that she truly loves the dinosaurs that she works with, and was just lead on by the wrong people. The scenes with her in them were great and I wish we got to see her more. The way she interacted with all the kids showed that she really cared about them, with an example being how she responded to Yaz’s nightmares. I love her.

Before I get into the other characters, my thoughts on the plot. The plot felt really flimsy and it had way too many loose ends. A decent amount of the screen time went to developing an interesting relationship that I will get into later, which meant there was less time to fit the actual plot and other character development into, which made the entire season suffer. It was mostly based around the robots that they brought in, called BRADs, which weren’t even that good. They would get beheaded way too easily and just really didn’t feel like a threat. They also just got really repetitive, which made this season less enjoyable. The robots felt really out of place in the jw cannon and we’re only there for convenience. The whole ‘we are building a Dino Battle Royale on this island for rich people to pay for to enjoy’ thing was a good concept, but it was executed poorly. The cliffhanger at the finale, Daniel being revealed as Kenji’s dad, was very clearly only there so that we had some action. Most of the action in the show fell a little short. The only episodes that were really good were episode 1, 2 and kinda 3. Even with all of that, it was good to see Manta Corp finally be used as a main villain, even if I don't like how the writers went about it all that much.

Now, onto the campers.

Let’s start with Darius. Everyone in the fandom thought that this would be his season, since he’s the freaking main character for gods sake, but he got no character development whatsoever. He felt off and a bit ooc for close to the entire season and it really messed with me. Even when he got kidnapped he got pretty much no development and it was only used as a plot point. Him choosing the mainland over the dinosaurs was not in character at all and the fact that they played it off like he had no ptsd was so dumb. Like, he is fucking 12 and has been leading this group for 6 months, he is going to have nightmares. Don’t tell me he isn’t. His interactions with Mae at the start of the season were sweet and I liked them, but he shouldn’t have trusted her at the start. He had already been betrayed by an adult that he trusted, being Mitch, so it made no sense that he trusted her straight away.

Sammy was one of the two characters that wasn’t out of character at all this season, and I am so happy about that fact. Watching her cope with her time working for Manta Corp and the consequences of that was so interesting, but I really wish that we got to see it more. We saw her angry at Kash for manipulating her family and upset about the fact that the new hybrids were partly her fault, that’s it. Other than that, seeing her and Yaz still talk and be really close was a relief. I get why they didn’t make yasammy cannon this season, since both girls had a lot to work through, but the fact that they didn’t stop their interactions gives me hope for next season. You guys can not look at the scene with the two of them laying in bed talking about things they miss from the mainland so that Yaz can finally get to sleep and tell me they don’t have chemistry.

Yasmina’s side plot was one of the best things in this season. Seeing how she is coping with all the shit she’s been through, nightmares and panic attacks and all, was quite good. It was one of the things in this season that was actually written very well. She just really wasn’t coping, and it was good to see the other characters say that that’s ok. I do, again, wish that we saw more of it. I am also quite surprised that this is the only season that Yaz hasn’t messed up her ankle, not a bad thing, just an observation. My one complaint was the fact that Yaz acted as wingman for the romance. It has been shown throughout the entire series that she isn't very good with emotions, so seeing her realize what was happening right away felt quite ooc. All in all she was great as always.

Ben carried this entire season and I love him for it. Not only was he the other character that was never ooc, but he also went through one of the two cases of good development that happened this season, the other case being Yaz. Seeing him trying to find the balance between 'fearless island Ben' and 'scared before camp Ben' in the first few episodes was really good and hearing the line "maybe now, you're finally just Ben" broke me. We also got to see some of his trauma shine through, finally. I mean, the kid got pulled out of a monorail by pteranodons, dropped to the ground and had to learn how to live with only dinosaurs for company for 3 months, changing his entire personality to do so. That's pretty damn traumatic. His response to seeing the pteranodons on the new island, as well as with the berries, was actually perfect. Seeing him allow himself to get attached to another dinosaur was just really sweet and I loved seeing him and Firecracker interact. The only problem I had with the way Ben was done this season is that they never truly addressed his trauma like they have Yaz's. Ben's trauma has been overlooked since season 2 and I really hope it gets properly addressed in season 5 when it comes out.

Now, Brooklynn and Kenji. I have decided to do them both together because they both pretty much only interact with each other in this season anyways so it feels fitting. Before I get into this one I have a few things to say. If you ship them that is completely fine, enjoy your ship being canon. I do not dislike this ship specifically because it ruins benji and dinostar, funnily enough I also ship benrius a bit, which does the same thing.

I have a lot of feelings when it comes to Brooklynn and Kenji dating, most of them not being entirely positive. This ship was so out of place, had no buildup, and in my opinion made both of the characters quite ooc. We went from them having a sibling like relationship in season 3 to Kenji not being able to speak properly around Brooklynn and Brooklynn finding his flaws cute. They pushed this ship so hard and made it take up time that could have been used to make the whole season better. I was completely fine with other ships happening, this one just came completely out of the blue. I'm pretty sure the only time it seemed like Kenji liked Brooklynn was the start of the first season when he flirted with her, and even then she never showed any sign of liking him back. It also doesn't really feel entirely realistic. Brooklynn is 13 and Kenji is 15, which in Australia would make them in grade 7 and grade 9 respectively. In high schools here at least, you would never see grade 9's get with grade 7's, and if they do they break up pretty quickly, just because those relationships don't really work. The ship also messed up the thing between Kenji and Darius. Literally every reason that Brooklynn gave to Kenji about why he was angry at Darius for leaving her behind would have worked better than the actual reason, being that he had a little crush. It completely destroyed the storyline and both Kenji and Darius' character development that could have came from it. It was so frustrating to hear Kenji say that that was the reason, and it's one of the main reasons I dislike the ship. Sorry to anyone who ships it but I really hope that they break up next season. Other than the ship, Kenji losing his beard in that one scene was funny and I wish that Ben and Brooklynn got to finally hang out by themselves. I just want to see the crime duo hang out and commit crimes. Also, Brooklynn has two dads!!! That is so cool, thank you writers. While I’m on the topic of Brooklynn’s family it was very nice to learn about Yaz and Brooklynn's families, since we have never got to hear about them before. We are also going to get to know more about Darius because Brandon is being brought into season 5, which is cool.

All in all, though I had many problems with this season, I did enjoy it.

Review summary: Dinos needed to be shown more but are very loved. Bumpy made me cry. The BRADs were weak af. Kash sucks and I want the camp fam to beat him up like the child he is. Daniel should have been seen more. Mae is amazing and I love her. The plot was a bit flimsy. Darius deserves character development. Sammy is great and deserves more screen time. Yaz normally runs from her feelings like the track star she is but didn't this time and understood her trauma, which was good to see. Ben carried this season and finally showed his trauma. I don't really like Brooklynn and Kenji as a couple and hope that they break up. I'm happy that we finally know more about Brooklynn and Yasmina's families and I did enjoy this season, even with its flaws.
