I just spent an entire day untangling a knot in a friend's family tree. It turns out that about 100 years ago, some careless researcher accidentally smooshed together two guys with the same name, in spite of the fact that they lived in different states. Even though this person appears on nearly 500 people's family trees on Ancestry.com, and dozens of people have submitted him as their qualifying ancestor for the Sons/Daughters of the American Revolution, no one has ever taken a second look and thought, "Hmm ... it's a bit weird that this feller was still living in Pennsylvania 15 years after he died in Ohio."
Anyway, I think I have it all sorted out now, and I wrote up and posted a document explaining my reasoning, attached to his profile on the tree I made. I hope it is helpful to someone, and that I'm not about to have 100 angry DAR/SAR members show up at my door with torches and pitchforks because I said that their Revolutionary War Soldier Boy ancestor wasn't actually, and they're not as super special as they thought they were.

anyone else annoyed with portrayals that make Nm and the Bad Sanses and Error out to be “actually innocent uwu guys who aren’t actually in the wrong bc they’re traumatized” and make Ink and Dream out to be “actually the real bad guys actually cuz umm Ink soulless and Dream no care abt his brother actually”?
Like people probably think it’s subversive or something when tbh it’s really not, at least not anymore. Maybe at one point it wasn’t a very popular interpretation of those guys (to have them be The Real Victims Actually) but, it sure is popular nowadays.
Like I’m not against sympathetic portrayals of the bad guys or anything (I’m literally a For The Forgotten Ones enjoyer)
but like, idk it gets on my nerves a bit when people try to make them Not The Bad Ones Actually They Did No Wrong Ever™️. Especially when it’s at the expense of the Star Sanses (Ink, Dream, and sometimes even Blue)’s characters.
It just feels like villainizing the Stars (especially Ink and Dream) for no reason other than to gesture at a “”subversive and interesting”” story, making these interpretations out to be more complex than they actually are.

a lot of times a post will be like "youre not bad for having violent intrusive thoughts" and then someone in the notes will inevitably be like "yeah its only bad if you act on them" and like bro i cannot tell you how fucking unhelpful and misguided that statement is in this context.
like, yes, having negative impulses that you dont act on doenst make you a bad person, but intrusive thoughts are not impulses. the whole thing with violent intrusive thoughts (and intrusive thoughts in general) in OCD is that the person experiencing them very much Does Not Want to act on them, yet is terrified they'll "lose control" and act on them regardless of how much they don't want to.
treating these thoughts as if theyre actually something a person could potentially "give in to" and act out is fundamentally misunderstanding what intrusive thoughts are, and also plays into the very fear that a lot of people's thoughts are based on.

Saw somebody praising Andor for handling fictional torture well, and I’m sorry but no. No the fuck it didn’t!!!!!!!!
And this is not me dragging the show. I really like the show. Sadly, I even agree that it handles this subject better than most. Which in many ways actually makes me MORE disappointed and depressed, about the fact that 40-odd years ago the OT (which I also like, but lbr the political commentary is not much deeper than a puddle) gave us Leia lying through her teeth with her planet on the line and Han sweating and stumbling and saying “they didn’t even ask me any questions,” and yet today - on a show that is unapologetically on the side of a kid throwing a pipe bomb at the colonial cops - it’s too radical apparently to suggest that torture is really incredibly shit at eliciting useful intelligence, and people on the internet will give you a gold star for doing the bare fucking minimum because sadly it’s still better than what 99% of other narratives manage

You could convince me to watch the *checks notes* loser rangers anime? 👀
SKCNCJSKSK!!!!!!
Were you a Power Rangers kid??? Are you over-saturated and bored by modern superhero media?? Do you long for a fresh take on the “dark side” of Sunday Morning cartoons that ISN’T grimdark and irony poisoned and lame?? Do you like absolutely incompetent cringefail losers and their hot murder girlfriends???!!? Then come on down to…
✨GO! GO! LOSER RANGER!✨
We’ve got it all! :
Protagonist that just fucking sucks at everything
Like. Really REALLY fucking sucks. At everything. Cant even figure out how to eat food. Hates everyone and has no friends. He’s just like me fr.
He’s like if Sasuke was the worst ninja ever like couldn’t even throw a kunai but still thought he was better than everyone else and kept the exact same pretentious attitude. I’m obsessed with him.
A fun, unique twist on the Power Rangers-esque Sunday Morning cartoons of our childhood that pokes fun at the 90s era camp of that genre of media while still feeling genuinely heartfelt and respectful to the spirit of the source material it’s satirizing
If villain bad, why sexy?
Hot Murder Lady
Genuinely just like a fun silly plot that isn’t too serious (yet) and can be enjoyed casually (or not casually if you’re a freak like I am) and really hits different if you were a power rangers kid like I was
Cool animation with a unique style that feels like a lot of love went into it
Did I mention if villain bad, why sexy??
HIBIKI SAKURAMA💅🏻💕💖💖🌸🌸

I'm sorry, but sonic fans who are anti X thing are SOOOO annoying-
I'm not talking about those who dislike certain aspects of the series/fandom, talking about those who actively interact with said thing they hate, tagging their posts with the thing they hate and ESPECIALLY hating it for the most minor, inconsequential thing ever.
Like I'm begging you to shut up or at least not tag your goddamn posts with said thing you hate. Fans of that thing you hate don't wanna see your negativity.

The nice thing about being caught up on MSQ is I can go through character tags just fine and not get spoiled!
The bad thing about being caught up on MSQ is I can go through character tags and realize oh god, oh no, people are trying to include Urianger in their cute little fancomics and no one is taking the like 30 minutes it would take to figure out the grammatical rules on his speech patterns, OH NO.
It's a very stupid pet peeve of mine but it's just one of those "I know it when I see it" kinda things about BAD fake early-modern English. I'm far from an expert, I never did get my degree, Life Happened, but I don't think you need to be an expert to make it... not... terrible...
Like, literally 30 minutes of research on early modern English, you don't need to be a scholar of Shakespear or the King James Bible, you just gotta remember basic grammar and read shit out loud and if it's Technically Correct but sounds bad, change it and be wrong anyway.
Just. Ngh.

I recently made a post about how I love gideons different depictions in fanart and on the cover (x) in which I mused about how I still wasn't sure if she was wielding a long sword or a great sword and several people have made good points of arguing that she is wielding a great sword not just a long sword.
Now that I've started to read Harrow for the first time (yes I am late to the party I am sorry. But I finally got the second and third book) her sword is more often described as a "two hander" or "great two hander" (which btw STILL doesn't make it clearer for me because Harrow is arguable so tiny and scrawny that she'd probably call a dagger "great" in comparison to her noodle arms... But that is beside the point xD) however the cover art (as I've not yet finished HtN) does look like another weird mixture between a longsword and a great sword and I remain confused.
The handle is much longer than for a usual longsword, however would fit a federschwert (a different type of longsword especially made for fencing, not so much for the battlefield. It's blade is usually much thinner tho, so I doubt it is a federschwert) it's crossguard also is kinda too big for the usual longsword, yet not entirely unseen. I did wield longswords with a crossguard like that.
However judging from nothing but the cover I do still think Gideon wields a longsword. Because the cover sword is just TOO SMALL for an actual greatsword.
I dont believe people realise HOW FUCKING HUGE an actual greatsword is. Like, yes Harrow is supposedly small so the sword on the cover DOES look big on her. But it is diagonally on her back and now reaches almost her knees. An actual GREATSWORD wouldn't even fit that way or her back (yes it's a fantasy drawing, yes usually swords like that can not be carried to draw on the back regardless if it's a long or great sword. We're gonna ignore that, cuz magic and necromancers and lyctors)
So I remain with my headcanon, that Gideon wields a longsword and not a greatsword.
To summarize:
A longsword is made for dueling AND for the battlefield
A longsword has several similar and adaptable techniques to a rapier in wielding.
A longsword is however heavier than a rapier, so a life long longsword fighter would have habits that would make their rapier fighting style uncanny ("you wield your sword like someone who is used to a two handed weapon")
A longsword CAN be wielded with one hand (a great sword 100% can't. It's just too damn big)
A greatsword is literally made to swing around yourself to makd room on the battlefield. Its slow if you want to hit something and it needs A LOT of momentum to be wielded. It was made to slay horses and break spears and knock people off their feet. If someone is used to wielding a greatsword all their life, learning the nimble techniques of a rapier in several days maybe a few weeks is.... hard to say the least. Their muscles wouldn't even be made for that.
A longsword is also called "zweihander" in german so harrow or gideon calling it a "two hander" is absolutely legit.
And last but not least, Harrow calling it a "great two hander".... Is just because she is DAMN tiny. I am 165 cm / 5' 4'' and my longsword reaches to my chest and it is not one of the big ones.
In conclusion: FOR ME IT IS MOST DEFINITELY A LONGSSWORD AND NOW I CAN COSPLAY/IMAGINE BEING GIDEON EVERYTIME DURING MY FENCING LESSONS EHEHEHEHEH

I love the genre of (usually male) engineers who know they’re smart and think that makes them magically experts on everything. Homeskillet, you’re a mechanical engineer and programmer who isn’t even really good at either, and you’re attempting to tell me (the team’s electronics gal) and our EE about quadrature encoders. You’re just wrong but you won’t let me get a word in edgewise. I have been staring at our wiring diagram til my eyes bleed and I have done six other projects with similar motors. Shut the actual fuck up.

2023 reads
Saint Juniper’s Folly
YA paranormal mystery
follows a foster kid returning to the small town he grew up in, who runs from the judgemental townspeople and ends up magically trapped in a mysterious house in the woods
a boy who lives a boring life in the town until he finds him, and wants to figure out how to save him
and the young witch from the town over who’s heard the woods calling since her mother died, and wants to help
m/m, friendship & investigating a mystery
#Saint Juniper’s Folly#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#this is….okay#writing is quite young - it feels like middle grade. would be fine bc i like middle grade but it's a bit at odds with the fact that#they’re 18 and talking about college soon and driving round in cars a lot#There’s very little ghosty or spookiness - it’s more just about the characters and their developing relationships#I felt like there were quite a few pivotal scenes missing? Like it skips from the kid being back in this town for the first time#to suddenly he’s stuck in this house in the woods. We don’t see him go out there; realise he’s stuck; or anything.#(unless libby skipped a chapter in my audiobook again?)#It also felt like it skipped any of them like testing the supernatural stuff? They go straight to researching the house’s history.#Once the end is revealed it makes sense I guess - but it’s like the because the author forgot to make the characters (who Don’t know)#do the first logical things you might do in a situation like that. idk.#the boys hating each other at the start felt manufactured for some hate to love thing instead of for any reason.....I didn't buy it#Also my pet peeve of: having a character call her dad by his first name! …….but it's an indication of their bad relationship. okay then.#(I know that is also a real experience but MAN sometimes people just do that it's not always a sign of emotional neglect!!!!)#Anyway - I didn’t hate it by any means; there’s just a few little things that didn't work for me

I put it back on the dash 🫡 (<— forgets im relatively new here) …. It was juicy Cassandra lore and I am but a kitten with sharp teef
it's so funny bc that post was intended to be a cullen & hawke meta around why literally No One Else could have been the commander of the inquisition; bc the inquisition was always formed to march on the mages and rebuild the templars. the only person suited for that job is the man who worked as meredith's second in command in kirkwall, who has the added bonus of likely being able to keep (mage!)hawke in line.
