my body alert me to having an entirely full bladder with more than 30s warning challenge (impossible)
#it! is! so! annoying! just! be! normal! *screams*#genuinely i did piss myself as a kid a LOT until i was like. 10. no lie.#bc i would not know - at all! no inclination whatsoever! if i went anyway nothing would come out! - i needed to pee#until we hit 'you are going to piss yourself immediately'#just 0 to 100 in 0.35 seconds#and i did not have the control or muscle strength or whatever to not just. piss myself if i wasnt in immediate reach of a bathroom#i went though two. years. of 'bladder retraining' therapy#which is MEANT to retune you into signals or whatever so you know you need to pee with a fucking resonable amount of warning#spoiler: it did not do this#it did not improve the signalling at all whatsoever#what it DID do was develop the necessary strength and control to become doubled over with sudden OH GOD RIGHT NOW pee pain#BUT be able to hold it off for 5-10 min if necessary#which to the adults around me was a success bc it looked like i knew how to pee properly now#i don't. i just know how to NOT pee MYSELF and make it embarrassing. difference.#look man i'm 33 presumably there will literally never be a point in my life where i will know 'oh i kinda need to pee' an hour before#i will always be playing Highway To The Danger Zone every day forever#i just live like this#CHRIST it's so FUCKING annoying though#i mean this applies to all functions i have no internal signalling for anything until it is Super Right Now Urgent#my body notify me of anything at all ever challenge (impossible)#god if this aint the most annoying one though

The Maserati GranCabrio Sport. The GranCabrio is the convertible, retractable soft top version of the Granturismo S. It retains the 4 seat configuration which makes it Maserati's first ever four seater convertible. The GranCabrio Sport sits just under the MC Variant. The GranCabrio Sport has a 90 Degree 4.7L Ferrari V8 which propels it from 0-100 in just under 5 Seconds. It also has 454HP and 520NM of torque. To show it is more sporty, the headlight surrounds are in ack and the bars in the grille are finished in black. A new front bumper and air splitter also helped to substantially lower the drag coefficient from the original 0.35 to 0.33. Like on the Quattroporte, the transmission is a 6HP26 Unit from ZF. The speciality is that it includes Auto ICE Mode which is for low grip conditions, reducing maximum torque at the wheel, prevents 1st gear starts and only allows gear changes below 1,000RPM. Also, they've thrown in autosport mode which changes gears 40% quicker than Normal Mode and downshifts when lifting off as a corner approaches then activates stability control and stiffens the Skyhook suspension. Exhaust valves opens when the engine is over 3K RPM. This is literally the perfect GT car for the weekend! ——————————————————————————— Vehicle: Maserati Grancabrio Photo By: @perthxotix ————————————————————————––––— Thanks for checking out the post!————————————————————————––––— 📩- [email protected] 🛒- S T O R E and Photoshoot Options Available! 11/5/2018 - 1/11/2019: QuixolMC Changelog #25
Good afternoon, and happy 2019 to you!
It’s been over two months since our last changelog post- we put this off for a long time. Now it’s a whole year later!!!!! haha...
Anyways, A lot has happened since our previous changelog post. Most crucially, as you all know, was our long-awaited update to minecraft 1.13! Really, we should’ve done this post shortly after that, as the update alone accounted for months and months of effort from the staff all coming to a head in just one week. Seriously, we put a tremendous amount of work into making sure this update went as smoothly as it possibly could, and it really showed off!
Since then, we’ve gained hundreds of new faces in our community, and even rolled over into a new calendar year... So, yeah. These past two months have been big for us! As such, there’s a ton to cover in this changelog post. So much so, that we’ve decided on introducing a new format to these changelog posts, which should hopefully help somewhat in the readability of this long, long post... It’s still gonna be a lot of information to take in, regardless. We hope you’ll understand!
Anyhow, enough exposition, let’s get into it. Here’s everything that’s changed since before the update!
Changes are separated into one of four categories: Gameplay, Server Builds / Locations, Technical / Bug fixes, and Plugin / Software updates. They are sorted chronologically within these categories, from oldest to most recent. Dates are formatted mm/dd/yy.
Key:
+ Feature added - Feature removed % Feature changed/bug fix ^ Feature updated (usually plugin updates) # Comment (for… comments.)
Notable changes from 11/5/2018 to 1/11/2019:
- Gameplay -
+ [11/05/18] Updated server to Minecraft 1.13.2 % [11/05/18] Spawn limits for water-animals upped from 5 -> 15 # This matches vanilla values for 1.13+. Affects mob cap of squids, fish, etc. % [11/05/18] mob-spawn-range value changed from 4 -> 8 # This value is used in determining the mob cap for a world. # 8 is the “vanilla” value, although it’s a bit more complicated than that. % [11/05/18] dragon-death-sound-radius changed to 128 blocks % [11/05/18] sound effect of thunder will only play within a radius of 256 blocks of players % [11/06/18] Disabled teleport safety in essentials # any act of teleporting will now take you to the exact coordinates you were to teleport to, even if it is unsafe to do so % [11/06/18] Compasses will no longer point to your first essentials /home + [11/06/18] Added plugin: FactionsUUID 0.2.3-b123 # A fork of an old factions version, updated to support name changes. This version of factions has a lot of differences from the "modern" factions, also known as "mcore factions". % [11/06/18] "power per hour" is now "power per minute". you gain 0.1 power per minute, or 6 power per hour. % [11/06/18] power loss on death is now 6. % [11/06/18] Faction roles are different. The hierarchy is now as follows: Recruit -> Normal -> Mod -> Coleader -> Admin % [11/06/18] Creating a faction now costs 500 shells % [11/06/18] Changing faction tag (faction name) now costs 400 shells % [11/06/18] You can no longer claim land right up next to allied factions, you need a distance of 6 chunks from each others' claims just as you normally would a neutral faction % [11/07/18] Sending items or mobs through nether or end portals no longer works in Protos + [11/07/18] Introduced updated 1.13 head drops datapack! Version: 1.0 # % Parrots' default loot table now contains all parrot head types. that way, if the mob sub-type module is not working, you can still get heads from parrots, you just won't (usually) get the head corresponding to the type of parrot you killed. this matches the loot tables zombie villagers, llamas, etc have. # % Rabbits' default loot tables also now contain all (natural) rabbit head types. does not contain toast or killer bunny heads. # % Shulker heads are now called "Mini Shulker" (consistency w/ guardian head drop) # % Slime heads are now called "Mini Slime" # % Magma Cube heads are now called "Mini Magma Cube" # % Ghast heads are now called "Mini Ghast" # % Snowman heads are now called "Snow Golem Head" # % White sheep heads are now called "White Sheep Head" instead of just "Sheep Head" # % For some reason, Zombie Villagers were twice as likely to drop rare drops such as iron ingots, carrots, potatos. Changed this back to vanilla values. (previously it was a 5% chance, w/ +2% per looting lvl, vanilla is 2.5% w/ +1% per looting lvl) # + Cod head: 10% head drop, +1% per looting lvl # + Dolphin head: 25% head drop, +2% per looting lvl # + Drowned head: 2% head drop, +2% per looting lvl # + Phantom head: 10% head drop, +1% per looting lvl # + Pufferfish head: 15% head drop, +1% per looting lvl # + Salmon head: 10% head drop, +1% per looting lvl # + Tropical fish head: 10% head drop, +1% per looting lvl # + Turtle head: 10% head drop, +1% per looting lvl + [11/07/18] Introduced QuixolMC's custom datapack version 0.1! # I don't have a better name for it, so deal with it! # % Changed saddle recipe slightly (see summary for the updated recipe) # % Changed Shulker Shell recipe to contain Phantom Membrane instead of ender pearl. # made custom advancements for granting recipes: # + unlock cobble recipe when picking up furnace # + unlock horse armor recipes when picking up their respective ingot/gem # + unlock enchanted golden apple recipe when picking up gold block # + unlock nether wart recipe when picking up nether wart block # + unlock saddle recipe when picking up leather # + unlock shulker shell recipe when picking up purpur block # + unlock totem of undying recipe when picking up nether star # added a few other custom advancements: # + Added a challenge advancement for killing a charged creeper # + Added an advancement for getting a cactus # + Added a challenge advancement for being killed by a villager % [11/07/18] Changes to alchemy skill # They've basically been doubled... leveling this was a pain # + Potion_Stage_1: 15 -> 30 # + Potion_Stage_2: 30 -> 60 # + Potion_Stage_3: 60 -> 120 # + Potion_Stage_4: 120 -> 240 % [11/07/18] Changes to woodcutting skill # These are just the new blocks for 1.13 # + Stripped_Oak_Log: 70 # + Stripped_Spruce_Log: 80 # + Stripped_Birch_Log: 90 # + Stripped_Jungle_Log: 90 # + Stripped_Acacia_Log: 90 # + Stripped_Dark_Oak_Log: 90 % [11/07/18] Changes to blast mining: # - Blast mining was nerfed a bit. The level you have to reach to reach the next "rank" was doubled, so it will take longer to unlock the benefits of each "rank" within blast mining % [11/07/18] Buffed taming skill slightly: # The level needed to unlock a few abilities was reduced. # + Fast Food: 50 -> 35 # + Environmentally Aware: 100 -> 75 # + Thick Fur: 250 -> 225 # + Holy Hound: 375 -> 350 % [11/07/18] Nerfed unarmed skill: # - BonusMin is now 0.0 (you start out with no boost to unarmed attacks) # - BonusMax is now 7.0 (down from 8.0) % [11/07/18] Nerfed axes skill: # - Max attack bonus (+4) is now reached at level 600 instead of level 400 # - Damage modifier for critical hits when PVPing is now 1.25 instead of 1.5 % [11/08/18] Reset mcMMO, Economy, Jobs, Factions data % [11/08/18] if you’re in a job that pays for smelting, you’re limited to 20 furnaces at a time max + [11/08/18] Introduced the brand-new Explorer job! Gain money by exploring the world. # Each time you enter a newly discovered chunk (one nobody has been in before), you get paid! # Even if you aren't the first to discover an area, you still get paid if you are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th. The amount paid out depends on how many others found it before you. + [11/09/18] Added Faction Extras 1.0.0! # A custom script, coded by admin Vivian. Adds a little bit of additional functionality to Factions, such as faction warps and the ability to buy more faction power for your faction. % [11/09/18] Faction powerboosts now give you a PERMANENT boost to your power- not just your maxpower. # So, if you have a powerboost of +5, and you have 5 power left and die, you won't go below 5 power. # This can't be configured w/ factionsUUID. So... guess we'll have to just accept it!! % [11/09/18] Exp loss on death reduced to 1/3rd (prev. 1/2) + [11/09/18] QUIXOLMC: Now 1.13.2 Public Beta! # Full changelog for minecraft 1.13 here. % [11/10/18] Nerfed explorer job # - first: inc/exp: 5 -> 4 # - second: inc/exp: 2.5 -> 2.25 # - third: inc/exp: 1.0 -> 0.8 # - fourth: inc/exp: 0.5 -> 0.35 # - fifth: inc/exp: 0.1 -> 0.05 % [11/10/18] bumped up unarmed skill a bit # + bonusmin changed to 1 instead of 0 # unarmed attacks should start out with a +1 attack boost instead of +0 now % [11/10/18] Reduced mob-spawn-range to 6 # This should reduce the mob cap/mob spawns. Done for performance. % [11/11/18] Further reduced mob-spawn-range to 4 # We’re back to where it was before the update. Also for performance. % [11/12/18] Fixed builder job for 1.13 # + Bark: 1.0 inc, 0.75 exp # + Glass: 1.5 inc/exp # + Sandstone: 1.5 inc/exp % [11/13/18] Changed thunder sound radius to 512 blocks % [11/14/18] Nerfed explorer job again # - first: inc/exp: 4.0 -> 3.5 # - second: inc/exp: 2.25 -> 1.75 # - third: inc/exp: 0.8 -> 0.75 # - fourth: inc/exp: 0.35 -> 0.25 # - fifth: exp: 0.05 -> 0.02 % [11/15/18] Added more to Woodcutter job # + Stripped logs (all types): inc: 0.75 , exp: 0.25 % [11/15/18] Added more to Miner job # + Coral blocks (all types): inc: 2.0, exp: 3.0 # + Cobble/mossy cobble wall: inc/exp: 2.5 # + Stained terracotta (only naturally generated variants): inc: 0.15, exp: 0.2 # - Emerald ore (on place): -15 inc, -30 exp % [11/15/18] Added more to Builder job # + Coral blocks (all variants): inc: 2, exp: 3 # + Dead coral blocks (all variants): inc: 1, exp: 2 # + Dried kelp block: inc: 1.5, exp: 2 % [11/15/18] Added more to Engineer job # + All new button types: inc/exp: 0.5 # + All new pressure plate types: inc/exp: 0.8 % [11/15/18] Changes/additions to Digger job # - removed pay for digging red sandstone # - removed pay for digging stained terracotta # % coarse dirt: inc: 0.25 -> 0.5 , exp: 0.25 -> 1.0 # + podzol: inc: 0.25 -> 0.5 , exp: 0.25 -> 1.0 # % red sand: exp: 0.5 -> 1.0 # % clay: inc/exp: 1.0 -> 1.2 # + mycelium: inc: 1.0 , exp: 1.25 # + soul sand: inc/exp: 1.0 % [11/15/18] Additions to Farmer job # + Taming parrot: inc/exp: 5.0 # + Taming ocelot: inc/exp: 5.0 # + Taming llama: inc/exp: 5.0 # + Breeding mooshroom: inc: 4.0 , exp: 5.0 # + Breeding llama: inc: 4.0 , exp: 5.0 # + Breeding turtle: inc: 4.0 , exp: 5.0 # + Coral fans (all variants): inc: 2.0 , exp: 2.5 # + Kelp: inc/exp: 0.5 # + Seagrass/tall seagrass: inc/exp: 0.2 # + Sea pickle: inc/exp: 1.0 # + Planting Cocoa beans: inc/exp: 1.5 # + Planting pumpkin/melon seeds: inc/exp: 1.5 % [11/15/18] Slightly nerfed Farmer job in other ways # - planting wheat/potatos/carrots/beetroot: inc/exp: 2.0 -> 1.5 % [11/16/18] Additions to Hunter job # + Drowned: inc: 10.0 , exp: 20.0 # + Phantom: inc: 15.0 , exp: 20.0 % [11/16/18] Changes/additions to Crafter job # + Oak fence gate: inc/exp: 0.5 # + Oak fence: inc/exp: 0.5 # + Spruce, birch, jungle, acacia, dark oak doors: inc/exp: 0.15 -> 0.5 # + All bed types: inc/exp: 3.0 # + Terracotta: inc/exp: 1.5 # + Glass: inc/exp: 0.3 # % Stone brick stairs: inc: 0.5 -> 2.5 , exp: 0.5 -> 3.0 # + All stairs: inc: 2.5 , exp: 3.0 # % Heavy weighted pressure plate: inc/exp: 2.5 -> 3.0 # + All pressure plates: inc/exp: 3.0 % [11/17/18] Additions to Weaponsmith job # + Craft Turtle helmet: inc: 20.0 , exp: 40.0 % [11/17/18] Additions to Brewer job # + Gunpowder: inc/exp: 6.0 # + Dragon's breath: inc/exp: 25.0 # + Turtle helmet: inc/exp: 16.0 # + Phantom membrane: inc/exp: 12.0 % [11/17/18] Additions to Enchanter job # + Frost walker 1: inc/exp: 10.0 # + Frost walker 2: inc/exp: 20.0 # + Sweeping edge 1: inc: 15 , exp: 20 # + Sweeping edge 2: inc: 25 , exp: 30 # + Sweeping edge 3: inc: 35 , exp: 40 # + Curse of binding: inc/exp: 5.0 # + Curse of vanishing: inc/exp: 5.0 # + Mending: inc: 100.0 , exp: 300.0 # + Impaling 1: inc/exp: 10.0 # + Impaling 2: inc/exp: 20.0 # + Impaling 3: inc/exp: 30.0 # + Impaling 4: inc/exp: 40.0 # + Impaling 5: inc/exp: 50.0 # + Loyalty 1: inc/exp: 10.0 # + Loyalty 2: inc/exp: 20.0 # + Loyalty 3: inc/exp: 30.0 # + Riptide 1: inc/exp: 20.0 # + Riptide 2: inc/exp: 30.0 # + Riptide 3: inc/exp: 40.0 # + Channeling: inc/exp: 25.0 % [11/18/18] Nerfed endermen payment in Hunter job # - Enderman: inc: 15.0 -> 5.0 , exp: 30.0 -> 2.5 % [11/18/18] Nerfed Explorer job (3rd time's the charm?) # - 1st: inc: 3.5 -> 3.0 , exp: 3.5 -> 3.0 # - 2nd: inc: 1.75 -> 1.5 , exp: 1.75 -> 1.5 # - 3rd: exp: 0.75 -> 0.7 # + 4th: exp: 0.25 -> 0.3 # + 5th: exp: 0.02 -> 0.1

List of known bugs/issues:
! Inventories saved in 1.11 - 1.12 (in the world Protos) may have shulker box data corrupted. undyed shulker boxes turn into purple shulker boxes, and any items inside shulker boxes may lose all of their NBT data. ! when you are killed by a mob you recently hurt, the death message just says you were killed by [a bunch of hearts], due to a mcMMO bug ! mcMMO doesn't give you alchemy exp for making slow falling potions ! /f show will not show offline players ! Changing factions permissions for containers / doors does not seem to work ! several other bugs in Factions ! Exploration job does not work properly ! Peculiar bug with items in cursor slot disappearing in the inventory? Has only been reported once; unable to reproduce ! Being killed by another player counts as a "killed by [mob]" in statistics, but killing another player will not increase this statistic, only dying to other players counts ! Peculiar bug with mobs (usually animals) held in pens suffocating in surrounding blocks. Potentially related to mob pathfinding ! Standing still on top of a boat in water will deplete your hunger very quickly for some reason(???) ! New players will occasionally not get teleported by the pressure plate at the end of the tutorial, and report that they can’t see anything (i.e., the chunks they are in just turn invisible, despite still being able to walk around and move and such) ! New player sound is broken
Things to come:
• A new market for Ghalea! • Releasing more custom advancements • Other updates to QuixolMC’s custom datapack • Fixing bugs, hopefully... • Updates to qChat, other custom scripts
last changelog post (#24)
about changelogs
Yikes, that was long. Possibly our longest changelog ever! Did you get all of that? It’s ok if you didn’t, but we like to provide all the relevant stuff for anyone who’s curious.
The staff collectively spent several months preparing for all of these 1.13 changes before the fact, as stated before. The project to revamp all of Orsus was going on behind the scenes since at least may of 2018... a whole half year before we finally updated! We were also making preparations for technical changes and testing out plugins and software and all the other preparations since around that time, as well. We hope you all can see that effort shine through in what you’ve experienced for yourself on the server.
If you were wondering about the change to the saddle’s crafting recipe, or any other custom crafting recipe on the server, the crafting page on our blog is properly updated. Here’s what it looks like if you don’t wanna click, though:
With all of that in mind, let us know what you think of this new format for the changelogs! Is it easier to navigate? Or does it just leave you feeling more overwhelmed? Obviously, the length of this changelog wouldn’t help it either way, but we tried our best to separate stuff into neat categories for you all. We always appreciate hearing your feedback.
Thanks for reading, and we hope you have a great 2019!

Tutorial: Creative Spitscreen Layout with CSS3 Animations (Pt. 2)
A few weeks ago, I demonstrated how to build a split-screen website layout using CSS flexbox and viewport units that offers an alternative way to present a brand’s featured content. Clicking on one side or the other navigates further into the site without a page load, using CSS transitions and 3d transforms. This week, I’ll show you how to use these same techniques to add animation and movement to the content and buttons.
Check out Part 1
See the Pen CSS Responsive Full Screen Duo Layout With Animated Overlay by Markus Sladek (@SDesignerMagazine) on CodePen.
Structure If you followed along for part one, you should already have created the overlay, or wrapper for your content and added a jQuery snippet to animate its entrance using Animate.css classes. Here is a refresher on which pieces we start with, using the left or west side as an example:
<div id="west-overlay" class="overlay"> content goes here </div>
$("#west .content").click( function() { $("#west-overlay").addClass("animated fadeInLeft open").one('webkitAnimationEnd mozAnimationEnd MSAnimationEnd oanimationend animationend', function(){ $(this).removeClass("animated fadeInLeft"); }); });
In keeping with the two-column style of the design, this page will also use flexbox to create a single column within which the content can be layed out:
<div id="west-overlay" class="overlay"> <div class="grid"> <div class="column"> <img src="photo-url"/> </div> <div class="column"> <div class="product-content"> <h1>Rainbow Chasers</h1> <p>...</p> <div class="price"> <span class="currency">$</span> <span class="amount">89.99</span> </div> <a href="#" class="buy-button"><span>Buy Me</span></a> <div class="size-guide-link underline-link">Size guide</div> </div> </div> </div><!--End Grid--> <div class="close-icon"> <div></div> <div></div> </div></div> </div>
Within the overlay, we have created a grid wrapper to hold our flex items, starting with two columns. The left column holds an image, and the right column holds our page content, which in this case is a heading, description, price and call to action for a featured product. Spans are used to allow us to style specific text elements separately without affecting how the text naturally sits in its parent element.
Finally, a close-icon is created in pure CSS and placed within the main overlay, consisting of one main div and two inner divs to create the X.
Styling
The existing grid rule used for our main layout is applied to setup our flexbox.
.grid { position: relative; width: 100vw; height: 100vh; display: flex; flex-direction: row; flex-wrap: wrap; }
To vertically center the content responsively, we will use table. This could also be done with flexbox inception, but table is much simpler. Learn more about vertical centering here.
.overlay .column{ display: table; height: 100%; } .product-content{ font-size: 1.4rem; padding: 10%; display: table-cell; vertical-align: middle; }
Animating the Content
This demo makes use of two kinds of animation – the static kind gained through transitions, and the more complex kind using keyframes. In the case of transitions, you select the property you want to transition, which can be anything from a background gradient to a transform. For animations, you select the keyframe block. The magic happens once you declare the duration length for the animation or transition.
The transition timing function is what controls the values of intermediate states between the start and end declarations. It’s optional, and defaults to ease. When dealing with simple animations and transitions, you’ve probably used ease-in-out to make link hovers, buttons and other simple movements appear more graceful, but transition is not enough to move an element along a path on a specified timeline, allowing it to change in multiple ways. That is where CSS animation is useful.
When the diamond area of our layout, selected with #west .content is clicked, our content div with the ID of #west-overlay will get three new classes: animated, fadeInLeft and open. When the animation ends, the animation classes will be removed.
The open class makes the div visible and adds a transition effect.
The animated class, provided by Animate.css, sets up the animation duration and primary rules for the movement.
The fadeInLeft class, provided by Animate.css, fades in the div and moves it into position from the left.
You can change the animation type by replacing fadeInLeft with any of the available animations in Animate.css, or with your own animation name. Here is a look at what fadeInLeft looks like using CSS animation keyframes:
@keyframes fadeInLeft { from { opacity: 0; transform: translate3d(-100%, 0, 0); } to { opacity: 1; transform: none; } } .fadeInLeft { animation-name: fadeInLeft; }
Pretty simple, right? Over a default animation-duration of one second, the overlay div will fade in and be moved into position.
The content of the overlay can be animated in the same way, using an endless combination of styles. Create another jQuery statement inside the click function for the #west .content selector:
$("#west-overlay .product-content").addClass("animated flipInY ").one('webkitAnimationEnd mozAnimationEnd MSAnimationEnd oanimationend animationend', function(){ $(this).removeClass("animated flipInY"); });
Delays and Duration
So when the diamond area is clicked, both the overlay animation and the content animation are kicked off. If you wanted your content to begin animating only after the overlay does, you would tuck it into the one function instead, just after $(this).removeClass("animated fadeInLeft");
Using what you’ve learned about using these functions, you can select any part of your content to animate it separately, such as fading in the image, sliding down the heading and then flipping in the button, for example. To add a delay for the animations, or make the animation slower or faster, the following properties can be added to your CSS rules for the element you are adding the animation class to:
.product-content { animation-duration: 3s; animation-delay: 2s; }
As you can see, the visual effects are achieved through transitions and transforms, whereas movement along a path is achieved through the additional use of CSS animation. In the next section, we’ll look at the static effects used to add more interest and life to the interactions on the page, meant to entertain our visitors and keep them more engaged.
Interactions
To get the layered look of the button, we use styling of pseudo-elements ::before and ::after, and a span for the button text so we can position it properly when the button is pressed.
A transition is added to the span to give the transform we will add on hover a smooth animation.
.buy-button{ height: 50px; width: 100%; margin: 2rem 0; position: relative; background: #eee; border: 3px solid #f9efb2; } .buy-button > span { display: block; position: relative; font-weight: 700; font-size: 1rem; text-transform: uppercase; color: #1f1f22; transition: opacity 0.35s, transform 0.35s; z-index: 10; line-height: 60px; }
The pseudo-elements are given a border and transition to match the above. They are offset using absolute positioning and sent behind our span using z-index to give the button some dimension.
.buy-button:after, .buy-button:before { content: ''; position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; border: 3px solid #f9efb2; transition: opacity 0.35s, transform 0.35s, ease-in-out .3s; } .buy-button:before { background: #FFF; margin: 0px 0 0 0px; top: 5px; left: 5px; width: calc(100% + 2px); height: calc(100% + 2px); z-index: 1; }
The hover effect is created using translate3d to move the top face of the button a few pixels backwards. Simple!
.buy-button:hover span, .buy-button:hover:before { transform: translate3d(-4px, -4px, 0px); }
Link Underline
Next we have a subtle "animated" underline on our Size Guide link. The line is created using a pseudo-element:
.underline-link::before { content: ''; position: absolute; bottom: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 1px; background: #202023; transform-origin: left; transform: scaleX(0); transition: transform .2s ease-in-out; }
The transform-origin: left declaration draws the line from the left. Remove this if you want it to grow from the center. The transform: scaleX(0) declaration establishes the starting point as 0 which we will grow to 1 on hover, and a basic ease-in-out transition is added to the transform to create a smooth "animated" look when we change its value on hover:
.underline-link.active::before, .underline-link.hovered::before, .underline-link:hover::before { transform: scaleX(1); }
Close Button
Going back to transition timing functions like ease and linear, you may have noticed that they are somewhat limited. If you want more control over the speed of the effect as it is played out, the cubic-bezier property does the trick. To put it simply, cubic-bezier allows your transition to play out along a bezier curve rather than a straight line, allowing for 4 points of control rather than two. This can be used to create more dimensional effects, or in the case of our Close Button, to give each "leg" of our X the appearance of separate animations while only applying the effect to two divs.
.close-icon div { display: block; height: 3px; position: relative; transition: transform 0.6s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0s, opacity 0.4s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0s; width: 36px; }
The button itself is created from our two inner divs and the ::before and ::after pseudo-elements, formed into an X using translate3d transforms.
.close-icon div::after, .close-icon div::before { content: ""; display: block; height: 100%; pointer-events: none; position: absolute; width: 100%; } .close-icon div::before { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #34d5cf; opacity: 1; transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px); } .close-icon div::after { background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #ead918; opacity: 0; transform: translate3d(100%, 0px, 0px); } .close-icon div:first-child { transform: translate3d(0px, 10px, 0px) rotate3d(0, 0, 1, -45deg); } .close-icon div:first-child::after, .close-icon div:first-child::before { transition: transform 0.6s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0s, opacity 0.2s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0s; } .close-icon div:last-child { transform: translate3d(0px, 8px, 0px) rotate3d(0, 0, 1, 45deg); } .close-icon div:last-child::after, .close-icon div:last-child::before { transition: transform 0.6s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0.2s, opacity 0.2s cubic-bezier(0.19, 1, 0.22, 1) 0.18s; } .close-icon:hover div::before { opacity: 0; transform: translate3d(-100%, 0px, 0px); } .close-icon:hover div::after { opacity: 1; transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px); }
A cubic-bezier transition is then added to the opacity and transform to get the effect of each "leg" flying in or out when changed on hover:
.close-icon:hover div::before { opacity: 0; transform: translate3d(-100%, 0px, 0px); } .close-icon:hover div::after { opacity: 1; transform: translate3d(0px, 0px, 0px); }
Finally, we need to add one last jQuery function to animate and hide the overlay when it is closed by clicking on our close button.
$("#west-overlay .close-icon").click( function() { $("#west-overlay").addClass("animated flipOutY ").one('webkitAnimationEnd mozAnimationEnd MSAnimationEnd oanimationend animationend', function(){ $(this).removeClass("animated flipOutY open"); }); });
Here we add the Animate.css class animated and our chosen animation class, detect when the animation ends with one, then remove the animation classes as well as the open class to hide the overlay and bring us back to our main layout.

We’re less than three weeks away from the Iowa caucuses, and the Democrats held their first presidential debate of 2020 on Tuesday night in Iowa. Just six candidates took the stage this time, the smallest grouping yet.
Much of the debate centered on foreign policy, given President Trump’s recent decision to authorize a drone strike that killed Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani, which has escalated tension between the U.S. and Iran. Another topic of debate was Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s claim that Sen. Bernie Sanders told her in 2018 that a woman couldn’t win the presidential election, which led to an onstage disagreement between them. But Warren seems to have gotten the upper hand — she got the highest debate grade from viewers and she now has the highest net favorability rating, according to our poll with Ipsos, which used Ipsos’s KnowledgePanel to interview the same respondents before and after the debate.
Anyway, maybe you missed the January debate because you’re gearing up for the three debates in February (it’s a marathon, not a sprint), or maybe you just want more analysis of how this debate will affect the race. Either way, we’ve got you covered.
Warren got high marks
First up, who viewers thought had the best debate performance. To answer this, we compared candidates’ pre-debate favorability ratings1 to how well respondents who watched the debate thought the candidates performed. Candidates are graded on a four-point scale where higher numbers are better; comparing those grades to favorability ratings helps us adjust our expectations, since people may be inclined to view well-liked candidates in a positive light. Warren got the highest marks for her performance on Tuesday night, and they were strong enough to be impressive even after you account for her high favorability. That represents an improvement for her, after she fell slightly below expectations during the December debate. Sanders, former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Vice President Biden didn’t do poorly per se, but because they were already well-liked, we expected a lot of voters to view their debate performance favorably.
Voters’ priorities affected candidates’ grades
Democratic voters really care about picking a nominee they think can beat Trump. Nearly two-thirds of likely Democratic primary voters in our poll with Ipsos said they prefer a candidate who they think can win the general election over a candidate who shares their stance on issues — and those numbers didn’t budge after the debate.
In December, voters who prioritized winning in November thought Biden had the best performance, but this time they thought Warren performed the best — perhaps a sign that her pitch for why a woman can win the presidency resonated with viewers. Sanders, meanwhile, did best with voters who preferred a candidate whose position on the issues was similar to their own, which is consistent what we found after the last three debates.

The same people were surveyed again from Jan. 14 to Jan. 15; 659 responded to the second wave and said they watched the debate. The average ratings are out of 4 points, where 4 is best and 1 is worst.

Voters warmed to Klobuchar
Most of the candidates on the stage made good impressions with voters Tuesday night, according to changes in their net favorability ratings (favorable rating minus unfavorable rating). But perhaps unsurprisingly, the candidates who gained most were those who many voters didn’t already have an opinion on. For instance, around 40 percent of voters had neither a favorable nor an unfavorable view of Sen. Amy Klobuchar and billionaire activist Tom Steyer before the debate — easily the highest percentages of anyone on stage — and they also saw the biggest gains in net favorability, racking up 5 points or more on this measure. The other candidates saw more modest gains (Buttigieg and Warren) or lost some ground (Sanders and Biden).
In fact, thanks to Warren’s gains and leading candidates’ stumbles, Warren now has the highest net favorability rating overall.

Women grabbed the mic
In the last three Democratic debates, a female candidate has led the group in number of words spoken, and the same was true again Tuesday night. Warren topped the list by speaking 3,428 words in total, just 134 more than Klobuchar. On the other end of the spectrum, Steyer spoke the least with only 2,285 words, though that’s still more than he’s said in past debates. In contrast to the other candidates, however, when he was talking, Steyer was often agreeing with his opponents. Of the 11 times he was able to give a substantive response,2 he spent at least part of five of them agreeing with another candidate.

But Steyer speaking the least isn’t all that surprising given that lower-polling candidates tend to get less air time. However, both Klobuchar and Buttigieg managed to buck that trend, speaking just about as much as higher-polling candidates like Biden and Warren, which was similar to what we saw in the December debate. Overall, the relationship between a candidate’s polling average3 and the number of words he or she spoke was not as strong as in the early debates when the stage was much more crowded.4 That said, Sanders still spoke relatively little given where he is polling nationally.
Trump came up more often
Klobuchar mentioned Trump by name more often than other candidates in Tuesday’s debate, which was consistent with her strategy in the December debate, when she also mentioned him the most. But the president’s name also came up more often in general than it did last time — candidates mentioned him an average of about eight times each on Tuesday, compared with about six times each in December.

Warren, for instance, only mentioned Trump once in the December debate, but this time she called him out on eight occasions. Biden talked about Trump six times in both the January and December debates, but while that put him in third last time, he was the candidate to mention Trump the least this time around.
Do you want even more debate coverage?
Cool graphics from other sites:
The New York Times tracked how much time each candidate spent speaking about various issues, finding that Warren, Sanders and Klobuchar spent more time on health care than other topics. Biden, on the other hand, spent a lot of time talking about the military.
And despite the Warren-Sanders clash over whether a woman can be president, it was actually Klobuchar who attacked her opponents the most, according to NBC News’s attack tracker. Warren came in a close second.
Bloomberg News compared which issues dominated this debate with previous debates and found that health care, which has taken up less time in the last two debates, was revived on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, economic inequality and social issues took a backseat compared to past debates.
And here’s more great post-debate analysis:
Rick Klein at ABC News5 broke down the debate’s focus on foreign policy and the clashes between the candidates.
The Des Moines Register covered how Iowans watched the debate and what candidates need to say to caucusgoers.
PolitiFact did a live fact-check of the debate.
Of course, we think our debate coverage is pretty good too:
The politics crew chatted after the debate.
Nate Silver, Galen Druke and Clare Malone stayed up late to bring you a podcast.
We partnered with Ipsos to poll the same group of voters before and after the debate.
And you can re-create all the action by scrolling through our live blog.

In this article, I want to take it up a notch, which is to say how can you invest when you have more than a few dollars, but not the thousands that traditional investment vehicles usually require? You can also check out my post on the best short term investments for your money! Before I started investing, I was under the same misunderstanding that you had to have thousands of dollars to get started, and my thoughts were how to invest 10K or how to invest 100k? Well now I know more about the world of investing and I can help you out with these same thoughts and fears. I was surprised – shocked really – that I could start investing in the stock market via mutual funds with only $50 per month. And that’s exactly what I did.  Even though I later found out that the mutual funds were okay at best, the fact that I started investing in myself was huge for me. And for many, it’s that first step that prevents them from amassing wealth later on. Investing in yourself doesn’t require thousands, it just takes getting started. For our purposes here we are going to define small amounts of money as something more than $100, but not more than $1,000. Based on that parameter, here are 15 ways to invest small amounts of money. Savings Accounts To be sure, you won’t be able to earn much money on your investments at the bank. However, the advantage that banks offer is that you can invest very little money in a savings account, earn a little bit of interest, and have zero risk of loss. Let me be honest, savings accounts are not the most exciting investments The best purpose for a savings account is to use them as a place to accumulate a larger amount of capital for higher risk/higher reward type investments later on.  Our Rating Account Name Savings Builder APY Up to 1.85% Initial Deposit Minimum $100 LEARN MORE Some of the investments in this list will require $500 or $1,000 to get started. Betterment There are a number of “robo advisors“, online investment platforms that offer professional management of your portfolio with very low fees. One of the best for small investors is Betterment. You start by completing an online questionnaire that enables the site to determine what your risk tolerance is. Based on that evaluation, a portfolio is created for you with an allocation that includes several different exchange-traded funds (ETF). Our Rating Annual Fee 0.25% Trade Fees $0 LEARN MORE Because of this allocation, your only responsibility is to fund your account – there is no need to concern yourself with investment selection, or with re-balancing your investments. Betterment investments actually has no minimum initial account deposit requirement. You can open up an account by committing to monthly contributions of as little as $100. The annual management fee to maintain your account is 0.35% of your account balance, on accounts of less than $10,000. The management fee works on a sliding scale, and drops as your account balance grows. 3. Lending Club Lending Club is an online peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platform in which borrowers come to get loans, while investors – a.k.a., lenders – provide the cash for those loans. In exchange, investors are rewarded handsomely for their investment. Rates of return in double digits are hardly unknown with Lending Club. You can invest as little as $25 in a single loan (or note), which means that with the $1,000 minimum initial investment, you can spread your portfolio among 40 different notes. Our Rating Loan Types Personal, Business, Medical, Auto and more Average Returns 5.06% – 8.74% Initial Deposit Minimum $25 LEARN MORE The limitation with Lending Club is that many states have minimum net worth requirements in order for you to invest on the platform. Fundrise Fundrise makes investing in real estate a breeze. This real estate investment trust allows you to invest in real estate without flipping houses or becoming a landlord. Fundrise is simple: your money is invested in real estate developments. Whenever they make money, you make money. Just how much money, you might ask? Your returns will vary based on the project you invest in, but Fundrise investors garnered an average return over 11% last year, thanks to technology that pinpoints profitable real estate projects for you to invest in based on your goals.  Perhaps the best part of Fundrise is its low minimum. If you’ve ever tried your hand at real estate investing, you know that it isn’t cheap. But Fundrise opens the door for investors who might not have thousands of dollars at their disposal. You can invest in Fundrise with as little as $500.  While Fundrise will invest in ideal projects for you, you can also take a more hands-on approach by selecting from a number of Fundrise’s projects to invest in. 6. Paying Off Debt There are two reasons for leading off with the suggestion to pay off debt. The first is that you shouldn’t be investing small amounts of money if you have debt, especially unsecured debt or have money to save for emergencies. The second is that paying off debt is one of the very best ways to lock in an above average and guaranteed rate of return on your money. This is especially true if the interest charge on a credit card balance is in double digits – there are no places available to the average investor to get double-digit returns that are guaranteed. Let’s say that you have a credit card with a balance of $1,000 with an interest rate of 15.99% per year. By paying that card off, you’ll lock in a nearly 16% rate of return on your money, virtually forever! You can make that card go away faster by surfing the balance to one of the many credit cards with 0 interest.  This way each payment goes directly to the balance on the card and not to interest (these offers only last a limited time so pay them off fast!). 7. Your Employer-Sponsored Retirement Plan This is probably the easiest way to invest small amounts of money, or even if you don’t have any money at all. That’s because it’s generally set up as a payroll deduction so that you can allocate a percentage of your paycheck to go to the retirement plan. You can designate just about any amount of your paycheck that you choose – as low as 1% to 20% or more, depending on the rules established by the employer plan. In this way, you don’t even need to have a large nest egg to invest. You can just add small amounts to your account with each paycheck, and then begin investing in any types of investments that your available capital (and the employer plan) will permit. Best of all is the tax benefits! Not only are your contributions tax-deductible, but the income earned on your investments will not be subject to income tax until you retire begin withdrawing money. In addition, if your employer offers a matching contribution, it will be like you get free money just for saving a little. No matter how much money you have to invest, investing in your employer-sponsored retirement plan should be one of the first steps you take. 8. Your Own Retirement Plan If you don’t have an employer-sponsored retirement plan, you can almost always set up your own retirement plan. All you need to qualify is earned income. The two best plans for most people are either a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA. Much like an employer-sponsored retirement plan, any returns on investment that you earn are tax-deferred until you begin withdrawing the funds in retirement. Also, contributions to a traditional IRA are generally fully tax-deductible. Roth IRA contributions are not tax-deductible, however, withdrawals will be free from taxes as long as you are at least 59 ½ at the time the withdrawals are made, and you have participated in the plan for at least five years. And though there is no employer matching contribution (since there is no employer), a self-directed traditional or Roth IRA can be held in a brokerage account that offers nearly unlimited investment alternatives. You can contribute up to $5,500 per year to either a traditional or Roth IRA ($6,500 if you are age 50 or older), which means you can build up a substantial portfolio in just a few years.  Also with the best Roth IRA providers, there is a very low entry cost. 9. Prosper Prosper works much the same as Lending Club. You can invest as little as $25, so you can spread a few hundred dollars across many different loans. There is also a state-by-state minimum net worth requirement here as well. Prosper reports that the average annual return on a note approaches 16%, which is an incredible return on a fixed rate investment. In the case of both Prosper and Lending Club, there is a risk of loss to your principal in the event that one or more loans you’re holding goes into default. There is no FDIC insurance protecting your investment the way it would with bank investments.  I also did Prosper reviews for both borrowers and lenders.  You can get full details of the platform there. Learn More 10. US Treasury Securities If you are looking for a more conservative investment, one where your principal is protected from market swings, you can invest in US Treasury Securities. These are debt obligations issued by the United States Treasury Department, to fund the national debt. Securities have maturities ranging from 30 days to 30 years (longer term maturities do involve a risk of principal if you sell before maturity). You can invest in these securities through the US Treasury’s Department’s portal Treasury Direct. By using the portal, you’ll be able to buy US government securities in denominations as low as $100. You can sell your securities there as well, and there are no early withdrawal penalties for doing so. You can also use Treasury Direct to buy Treasury Inflation Protected Securities (TIPS) too. These not only pay interest, but they also make periodic principal adjustments to account for inflation based on changes in the Consumer Price Index. 11. Investing in Your Own Skills Are there any skills that you could acquire that could bring you up to the next level in your career? Think in terms of learning a new computer application, a foreign language, or taking a public speaking- or sales-course. It’s possible that you could acquire certain career-enhancing skills that would enable you to either get a promotion on your current job or even transfer to a new, higher paying position with another employer. A few hundred dollars is often all it takes to take a course to learn that kind of skill. 12. Dividend Reinvestment Plans Better known as DRIPS, these are plans that allow you to invest small amounts of money into stocks of companies that pay dividends. Many large companies offer DRIPS, so if you want to invest directly in stocks, and you like certain companies, you can invest in those companies – usually without having to pay any kind of investment fees. DRIPS typically allow you to build your investment over time by making periodic contributions. Often, this can be done using payroll deductions. This can also be an excellent way to dollar cost average your way into large investments in major companies. And when you earn dividends, the money will automatically be reinvested to buy more company stock. 13. Low Minimum Investment Mutual Funds and ETFs Different mutual funds and ETF’s have different initial investment minimums. Many do require that you have several thousand dollars to open an account, but there are some that allow you to start an account with far less. An example is the Schwab Total Stock Market Index (SWTSX). With a required minimum that is that low, you could spread $1,000 across 10 different funds. You can check with any large mutual fund families, and even some investment brokerage firms, to see which funds are available with a minimum initial deposit of $1,000 or less. You may find index funds to be your best bet since they represent the best play on the entire market. 14. In addition, you can open a brokerage account with E*trade and TD Ameritrade with no minimum initial deposit. The advantage of investing through a brokerage firm is that will provide you with a wider variety of investment choices than you can generally get through direct investments alone. Check out some of our great investment brokerage reviews for your reference: E*Trade Review and TD Ameritrade Review. 15. Your Own Business I’ve discussed investing in other businesses so far, but if you’re looking to invest small amounts of money, investing in your own business could prove to be the best choice of all. After all, who better to invest in than yourself? For example, for a few hundred dollars you can buy a decent lawnmower, and start cutting lawns to generate income. With that few hundred dollar investment, you could have more than five thousand dollars to invest in no time. You could also start a website, dedicated to selling a certain product line. Or you can start a blog and use it to create affiliate sales arrangements. If it’s something you might enjoy doing, you could go to garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, and thrift stores, and by unusual goods and sell them at a profit on eBay or Craigslist. With advances in technology and the growth of the Internet, it’s easier than ever to start your own home based business on a shoestring. If you only have a few hundred dollars to invest, investing in starting your own business could be the most profitable venture of all. Many business owners start out by picking up a part-time job or side hustle to make extra cash to get their business up and going. A great side hustle is to become an Uber driver, you can create your own schedule and just sit back and drive and earn extra cash to throw at that dream of yours! So here you have 15 ways to invest small amounts of money, so there’s nothing stopping you from investing in something. Investing is one of those activities where the most important step is getting started, and here are the ways you can do it. And you mentioned involving in the sales of usually goods, I will appreciate it if I can get some examples because the ones running through my mind are the ones lots of people are already involved in. thanks Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Royalson – Local banks pay very little in interest. But you’ll get better returns at online banks. As far as selling goods, look for unusual items. Steve Chou and his wife turned selling wedding linens into a six figure business. Reply Aditya says What is the 15th one ? Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Aditya – It’s starting your own business. Instead of investing in someone else’s business, like buying stock in a company, you instead invest the money in your own business venture. Today, with the internet, it’s possible to start a lot of different businesses on just a few thousand dollars. Reply Dave says Please I need help in investing my money….. pls how do I go about it ?? Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Philip – Since I don’t know you, I can’t advise you personally. I’d suggest that you carefully review all 15 in the article and decide which will work best for you. Reply Neil says These are all good ideas. The one I would add a caveat to is “You shouldn’t be investing small amounts of money if you have debt.” I think it all depends on the interest rate. If you are earning 6% from investments and have a mortgage with 3% interest rate, your money is working harder for you in the savings account than it would be if you paid down the debt. I love the advice to pay yourself first. Even if you start really small, put that aside before anything else. People are often less hard up than they realise when they follow that strategy. Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Neil – I should have clarified I was talking about consumer debt. That’s usually high interest debt. The rate will almost always be higher than what you can get on your investments. That definitely needs to be paid first. Reply Susan says Hi Jeff, I’ve been watching your videos, perusing your web sights and I love what you share, your creative ideas, and your presentation. So… I watch people (like you) find ways to make more and more money. Pretty soon you need an office, and then employees. You go from one or two ventures to manage, and then 3, then 5 then a dozen! I’m wondering – how much of the money you make, goes back into paying for the office, employees, and other expenses? And that’s awesome if for every new dollar of expense, you are making $3 or $50 or $1000 more in profit! My quest: I would like to find a “sweet spot” where I am making a wonderful amount of income, with the simplest management needs possible. Just me – no employees to manage. No brick and mortar to furnish and pay for. Not be tied to a multiplicity of sites, forms, entities that consume huge amts of time to monitor, post on, etc. It’s a trade-off: less stress for less income. I’m OK with that. But I’d like to find that spot where the maximum income is and still be in that low-stress management spot. Looking for those options that are probably more work initially, but then become more self-sustaining and residual. Can you offer any insights to which opportunities would best fall into that category? Thanks so much! Susan Reply Susan says I meant “sights, FORUMS, entities…”, not “forms”. 🙂 Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Susan – You’re looking to make as much as you can as a solo entrepreneur. I get it, you don’t want the overhead costs of employees, office space, insurance, benefits, etc. The best way to do that is to maximize your own ability to monetize your skills. That is, get to the point where you’re making maximum revenue on your work. But you can also leverage applications and systems. For example, if you run a website, you can add an app that builds your mailing list, and even sends out regular updates. If you do need people help, you can hire outside contractors, or even partner with other businesses. All will enable you to expand your income without adding overhead. But exactly what you do will depend on how you’ll be making money. I hope this answers your question. Reply bijoy mili says Hi, this is bijoy from Assam. working and staying in Bangalore since 9 years. but till 9 years i’m not able save any money. sometime i do have less then 30k in my hand. i’m married man. so i’m fully confusing that how can i manage my family? kindly give some idea that how can i manage my family from small amount? and also what should i do to make more money? how can i do any business from my small amount? please give some idea. otherwise i’m feeling to die because of i’m not getting any idea that how i should manage my family Reply Jeff Rose says Hi Bijoy – You should try to see if there are any robo-advisors available in your country. They can diversify you account between stocks and bonds, allowing you to have some growth in your portfolio. They can do this even with small amounts of money. Reply Bob says This list is quite incomplete without mentioning the Robinhood App, which literally charges you nothing for trading stock. Forget DRIPS, you can buy whatever stock or ETF you want (dividend paying or not) on the app for free. Reply Jeff Rose says Thanks Bob! Reply RAnn says Another platform that will allow you to invest small amounts of money (as little as $20.00 per transaction is kickfurther.com ( is an affilliate link and if you use it, you get a $5.00 credit) Kickfurther crowdfunds inventory for small businesses. They buy the inventory as agent for the investors and then the businesses sell it on consignment. Returns seem to be about 1.5% per month, without taking defaults into consideration. The platform is new and the downside is unknown at this time, but I made 8% on one deal in just three months. Reply Daniel says I’m using Kickfurther as well. It’s come along way since your post (Aug 15). As a college student, I don’t have too much extra cash to throw around but I’ve earned just over $1K so far with more paybacks to come. I’ve worked with brands that payback super early and earned 12% in 3 months because of that. Reply Luke Fitzgerald @ FinanciallyFitz says Great list! There are so many options to get someone started. That can be a good thing…and a bad thing as it becomes overwhelming and scary. I generally advise 2 options: 1) get out of debt and 2) Indexed ETF’s. Above and beyond that is icing on the cake (if we dont neglect 1 and 2). Thanks for sharing! Reply Bob says If you only have a little money to invest some of these suggestions are really bad. Betterment for instance charges $3.00 per month if you are not auto investing at least $100/month. So you have to put away $100 each month in order to qualify for the .35% rate. That is really not clear in the article. Some of the other suggestions are okay but not really going to turn a little money into a lot. Since many people reading this article are probably very unsophisticated investors, I think this is a poorly structured piece. Reply Jeff Rose says @ Bob So paying $3 per month to have a professional money manager select low cost ETF’s on your behalf and monitor those ongoing is a bad thing? Reply drew says Yes its absolutely a bad thing. If you have not personally interviewed the person/company that is handling your money, you sir are putting yourself in a bad situation. Would you hand your money over to someone you don’t know and just pray they know what they are doing? Reply Jeff Rose says @ Drew people do it in their 401k’s all the time. Reply Matthew says Ok so do you think would be a good way to start investing? I have some capital and very little debt. I am just very confused on what to invest in that will help me grown and move on to other ventures. Reply Bassam says Your investment idea are good but i only found it hard to be realised in developing countries like uganda I suggest you write same thing for us who are informal economy Reply Leave a comment Your email address will not be published. Quick Tip: How to Create an Off-Canvas Feedback Form With Pure CSS
In this super-quick tutorial, we’ll walk through the process of creating an off-canvas feedback form. We won’t use any JavaScript to accomplish this, in fact, we’ll build it by taking advantage of the “CSS checkbox hack technique”. Sound interesting?
Here’s what we’ll be building:
Let’s get started!
1. Begin With the Page Markup
We’ll start with a checkbox along with its label and a form. Within the form, we’ll put some common form elements.
Keep in mind that the order here matters. First we’ll place the checkbox, then the label, and finally the form.
We’ll associate each form control with its label by setting the id value equal to the label’s for value:
Here’s the page markup:
<input type="checkbox" id="mycheckbox"> <label for="mycheckbox" class="feedback-label">FEEDBACK</label> <form class="form"> <div> <label for="fullname">Full Name</label> <input type="text" id="fullname"> </div> <div> <label for="email">Email</label> <input type="email" id="email"> </div> <div> <label for="comment">Comment</label> <textarea id="comment"></textarea> </div> <div> <button type="submit">Send</button> </div> </form>
2. Define Some Basic Styles
Now let’s define a few custom variables to give us our layout scheme plus some reset rules, especially for the form controls:
:root { --white: white; --gradient: linear-gradient(-45deg, #FFA600 0%, #FF5E03 50%); --form: #eeefef; --border-radius: 4px; --form-width: 500px; --form-mob-width: 320px; } * { padding: 0; margin: 0; box-sizing: border-box; } button, label { cursor: pointer; } label { display: block; } button, input, textarea { font-family: inherit; font-size: 100%; border: none; } textarea { resize: none; }
3. Style the Form Elements
Now onto the mechanics. As a first step, we’ll visually hide the checkbox:
[type="checkbox"] { position: absolute; left: -9999px; }
Then, we’ll do the following things:
Set the checkbox’s label and form as fixed positioned elements. Additionally, we’ll position them in the center right corner of the page.
Display the label’s text in vertical orientation.
Hide the form off-canvas. By default, we’ll move it by 100% of its width to the right.
The corresponding styles are as follows:
/*CUSTOM VARIABLES HERE*/ .feedback-label, .form { position: fixed; top: 50%; right: 0; backface-visibility: hidden; } .feedback-label { transform-origin: top right; transform: rotate(-90deg) translate(50%, -100%); z-index: 2; } .form { width: var(--form-width); max-height: 90vh; transform: translate(100%, -50%); padding: 30px; overflow: auto; background: var(--form); z-index: 1; }
Next, we’ll add some straightforward styles to the form elements:
/*CUSTOM VARIABLES HERE*/ .feedback-label, .form input, .form textarea, .form button { border-radius: var(--border-radius); } .feedback-label, .form button { background: var(--gradient); color: var(--white); } .feedback-label:hover, .form button:hover { filter: hue-rotate(-45deg); } .feedback-label { padding: 5px 10px; border-radius: var(--border-radius) var(--border-radius) 0 0; } form div:not(:last-child) { margin-bottom: 20px; } form div:last-child { text-align: right; } .form input, .form textarea { padding: 0 5px; width: 100%; } .form button { padding: 10px 20px; width: 50%; max-width: 120px; } .form input { height: 40px; } .form textarea { height: 220px; }
Toggle Form
Each time we click on the checkbox’s label, the form should appear or disappear with a slide animation. To make that happen, we’ll take advantage of the :checked pseudo-class, the subsequent-sibling selector (~), and the adjacent sibling combinator (+).
Here are the required styles:
/*CUSTOM VARIABLES HERE*/ [type="checkbox"]:checked + .feedback-label { transform: rotate(-90deg) translate(50%, calc((var(--form-width) + 100%) * -1)); } [type="checkbox"]:focus + .feedback-label { outline: 2px solid rgb(77, 144, 254); } [type="checkbox"]:checked ~ .form { transform: translate(0, -50%); } .feedback-label, .form { transition: all 0.35s ease-in-out; }
Let's discuss the first three styles above:
The first selector looks for .feedback-label elements that immediately follow checked checkboxes. Here, instead of the + selector, we could equally have used the more generic ~ selector. It then smoothly moves those elements right after the form. Notice the Y value of the translate() function which seems a bit chaotic. If you look at a previous rule this is initially -100%. Now it should be -(form width + 100%). To force the calc() function to return a negative value, we’ll multiply the result of the target operation by -1.
The second selector looks for .feedback-label elements that immediately follow focused checkboxes. Again here, the ~ selector would work as well. It then gives those elements an outline. This is useful for keyboard accessibility. Use the Tab key to move focus to the checkbox (label). Next, press the Spacebar key to toggle the form state.
The third selector looks for .form elements that follow (even not immediately) checked checkboxes. It then smoothly moves those elements into view by removing the X value of the translate() function
4. Going Responsive
As a last (important) detail, we’ll specify a few rules for mobile screens. This doesn’t involve anything really drastic, we’ll just decrease the form width from 500px to 320px.
The responsive styles:
/*CUSTOM VARIABLES HERE*/ @media screen and (max-width: 600px) { body { font-size: 16px; } .form { padding: 15px; width: var(--form-mob-width); } form div:not(:last-child) { margin-bottom: 10px; } [type="checkbox"]:checked + .feedback-label { transform: rotate(-90deg) translate(50%, calc((var(--form-mob-width) + 100%) * -1)); } }
Conclusion
That’s it, folks! Without putting too much effort into this, we managed to implement a useful off-canvas feedback form. I hope you enjoyed this exercise and learned some new things which you can put into practice in the near future.
Let’s look again at what we built:
As always, thanks for reading!

Exhaust valves opens when the engine is over 3K RPM. This is literally the perfect GT car for the weekend! ——————————————————————————— Vehicle: Maserati Grancabrio Sport Photo By: @perthxotix ————————————————————————––––— Thanks for checking out the post!————————————————————————––––— 📩- [email protected] 🛒- S T O R E and Photoshoot Options Available! Is Virginia Too Slow?
Last year, coach Tony Bennett and his Virginia Cavaliers earned the embarrassing distinction of becoming the first No. 1 seed in men’s NCAA Tournament history to lose to a No. 16 seed in the opening round. Bennett may end up being tied to that ignominious bit of trivia for the rest of his life, but he also has a real shot at redemption this year. Virginia is a No. 1 seed once again, and the reigning coach of the year will have another chance to win his (and the school’s) first national championship. But the questions linger: Was last year’s loss to the underdog Maryland-Baltimore County Retrievers just a one-off fluke for Virginia, or was it symptomatic of a fatal flaw in Bennett’s system? Will this be the year that one of his teams finally breaks through?
Broadly speaking, Bennett has been very successful at Virginia. He has racked up multiple 30-win seasons, recruited a string of NBA-quality players and fixed the Cavaliers firmly in the AP Top 10. It took him just three seasons to transform a 10-win team into an NCAA Tournament participant. And yet — despite five subsequent tourney appearances, including three No. 1 seeds — victories in the Big Dance have been few and far between for Bennett, as his Virginia teams have notched a total of just seven tournament wins. In fact, Virginia’s performance against seed expectation of -1.30 wins per tournament is the second-worst of any team over the past five years.
Virginia has been successful lately, just not when it counts

So, what gives? Why has Virginia — a team that has so thoroughly dominated the regular season lately — disappointed so much in March? It may have something to do with the glacially slow pace at which Bennett has his team playing.
A team’s efficiency margin (i.e., the amount by which it would outscore an average Division I opponent over the course of 100 possessions) is generally a good predictor of wins and losses. Teams that score efficiently and make it hard for their opponents to do so tend to win a lot of games. According to Ken Pomeroy’s ratings, Virginia has hovered near the Top 5 in adjusted efficiency margin during its recent period of excellence, finishing each of the past five seasons somewhere in the ballpark of +25 to +30 points per 100 possessions. This year, the Cavs have the best margin of any Division I team at an eye-popping +35.
Of course, Virginia never actually has a chance to play 100 possessions in any individual game. The typical 40-minute college game has only about 70 possessions in each direction. And because the Cavaliers play at the slowest pace of any Division I team (353rd), they typically use even fewer possessions than that — just less than 60 on average.
Reducing the number of possessions available to each team puts a greater emphasis on randomness; each stroke of bad luck — a cold-shooting snap, a blown call, a bounce of the ball in the wrong direction — matters a bit more when the pace is slow. Extra randomness puts the favorite at greater risk and bolsters the underdog’s chances at an upset. By playing at a slow pace, the Cavaliers are essentially giving themselves fewer opportunities to prove that they are the better team in any given game. This is especially problematic if the Cavs find themselves trailing by a large margin, as they were early in the second half last year against UMBC.
But does it actually matter? We know that pace has only a very modest influence on the predictability of postseason outcomes in the NBA. That’s because each NBA game is 48 minutes long, each team uses about 100 possessions per game, and each playoff matchup is decided over a best-of-seven series. However, in a single elimination tournament with shorter games and fewer possessions, playing at a slower pace has much greater potential to introduce some wild volatility — hence, March Madness.
We ran a simulation to gauge just how big of a problem Virginia’s slow pace might be in the NCAA Tournament. Starting with the Cavaliers’ per-100-possession stats, we broke down the likelihood of the various potential outcomes for each possession on offense and on defense — how often they would score or allow 3 points (3-pointer made, 3 free throws or a 2-pointer and a free throw), 2 points (2PM or 2FTs), 1 point (1 FT) or 0 points (0FG, 0FT or a turnover) against an average opponent. Then, by sampling randomly from these distributions of potential possession outcomes, we created 10,000 simulated games for a range of different pace scenarios — from 50 to 80 possessions per game — to find the ratio of points scored to points allowed in each simulation. These simulations assume (undoubtedly unrealistically) that Virginia’s offensive and defensive efficiency would be unaffected by a change in the pace of play.
Under this assumption of a stable efficiency margin — where the digital Cavaliers are programmed to score an average of 1.3 times as many points as they allow regardless of the tempo — we find that Virginia wins slightly more simulated games when playing at a faster pace. Visually, you can see the orange band of simulated results narrowing from left to right as the range of likely outcomes shrinks toward the average with an increasing number of possessions. The Cavs lost 9.7 percent of their simulated games when they played at a 59 possession-per-game tempo (equivalent to their usual pace), but the more their pace increased, the fewer upsets there were.
This is an interesting thought experiment, but is there any empirical evidence to support the idea that playing at a slow pace is tied to underachievement in the tournament?
To find out, we examined game results from the 17 NCAA Tournaments from 2002 to 2018, for which there are team-tempo stats available from KenPom. We created a model for expected win totals based on tournament seed and adjusted efficiency margin. Next, we compared the expected win totals from the model with the actual win totals for each team in each tournament, excluding the First Four and other play-in games.1 From there we sorted the teams by quality (i.e., expected to win more or less than two games in a single tournament) and by adjusted tempo (possessions per game, divided into tertiles), forming six groups. We found that, among the teams that were expected to win the most games (two or more), those that played at a slow pace tended to underachieve, while those that played faster were most likely to outperform their expected win totals.
Playing at a fast or slow pace tends to nudge a good team’s range of outcomes one way or the other by about a quarter of a win. So, yes, Virginia’s slow pace of play puts it at a relative disadvantage compared to other, higher-tempo No. 1 seeds. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Virginia should start playing faster.
After all, Bennett knows a low-possession team can succeed in the tourney. He witnessed it firsthand in 2000 as a member of his father Dick’s coaching staff, when their methodical Wisconsin squad reached the Final Four despite playing at a snail’s pace. Now, Tony has implemented the same pace-defying pack-line defense that Dick once used to stifle Wisconsin’s opponents and tempo alike. That conservative defensive scheme is so integral to the Bennetts’ coaching identity that playing at a slow pace has basically become a family tradition.
In the end, a team’s efficiency margin is still a much better predictor of tournament success than its tempo. And, in practice, Virginia’s huge efficiency margin may be inextricable from its slow pace of play. A faster-paced Virginia team might also become a less efficient Virginia team, especially on the defensive end.
Theoretically, Bennett would maximize Virginia’s tournament chances by having his team play at a faster tempo. But in reality, his best bet may be to continue following in his dad’s slow-paced footsteps in the hopes that they will eventually lead him back to the Final Four.
The journey will start for Bennett and Virginia on Friday afternoon against Gardner-Webb of the Big South. On paper, the Cavaliers will be 35 points better than the Runnin’ Bulldogs, at least on a per-100-possession basis. But we will just have to wait and see if 59 possessions will be enough for the Cavs to prove they are better than a No. 16 seed this time around.
Check out our latest March Madness predictions.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Bitcoin Cash, EOS, Stellar, Litecoin, Cardano, Monero, Dash: Price Analysis, September 28
The views and opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Cointelegraph.com. Every investment and trading move involves risk, you should conduct your own research when making a decision.
The market data is provided by the HitBTC exchange.
Have Bitcoin and the top altcoins bottomed out? We have been maintaining for some time that Bitcoin and a few other cryptocurrencies are in the process of forming a bottom.
Now, several experts are also saying that Bitcoin is likely to rally in the final quarter of this year. If the institutions make an entry, the rally might pick up steam. A few technical  indicators are also pointing to a rally in the next few weeks and months.
The head of research at Fundstrat Global Advisors and a crypto bull Tom Lee has a very optimistic target for Ethereum. He predicted that the second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization will jump more than 700 percent from its current price level by the end of 2019.
Investors, however, should be cautious and only invest the money they can afford to lose, because every analyst gets a call wrong once in a while.
On the side of fundamentals, the news and developments remain strong. Switzerland-based startup SEBA Crypto AG, led by former UBS bankers, has raised about $103 million to set up a bank offering cryptocurrency-related services.
Ukraine’s central bank is planning to launch a state-owned digital currency tied to the national fiat currency at a rate of 1:1. This plan has been in the pipeline for some time now, but still, it will be interesting to see the markets’ reaction if Ukraine launches a government-backed cryptocurrency.
Is the trend for cryptocurrencies about to reverse? Let’s find out.
Note: as a number of cryptocurrencies are showing bottom formations or buy setups, we are recommending them. However, the traders should not jump in and invest all available capital. They should do their own due diligence and only attempt the trades they are confident about. The sentiment is still bearish; hence, caution is warranted.
BTC/USD
Bitcoin has broken out of the moving averages, but is facing resistance at the September 22 intraday high of $6,831.99. The downtrend line of the descending triangle is located just above this level at $6,930. We expect the bears to mount a stiff resistance in this zone.
If the bulls succeed in breaking out of the downtrend line, a move to $7,413.46 is possible. We anticipate a strong bout of short covering if this level is scaled. Therefore, the traders can hold their long positions with the stops at $5,900.
On the downside, the supports are at $6,583.46 and $6,341. If these supports break, a retest of the critical support zone of $5,900–$6,075 is probable.
Currently, both moving averages are flat and the RSI is close to the neutral zone, which suggests consolidation in the short-term. The next directional move on the upside will start after the BTC/USD pair sustains above $6,930.
ETH/USD
The bulls have held on to the $200 level for the past three days, but are struggling to push price above the 20-day EMA. If this resistance is crossed, the next major resistance is the 50-day SMA. Ethereum has not broken out of the 50-day SMA since May 24, hence, this becomes an important level on the upside.
If the ETH/USD pair sustains above the 50-day SMA, a rally to $322 is probable. Aggressive traders can attempt this trade on a breakout above $255.
On the downside, the support levels are $200 and $192.5. The downtrend will resume if the bears break below the September 12 low of $167.32.
XRP/USD
Ripple has been trading between $0.45 and $0.58 for the past few days. A consolidation, after such a stupendous move is to be expected.
The 20-day EMA is sloping up and the RSI is also in the positive territory. This shows that the bulls have an upper hand. Therefore, traders can buy a breakout above $0.583, if it sustains for at least 4 hours. The stop loss can be kept at $0.42. The target objective is a retest of the September 21 high of $0.7644.
If the bears break below $0.42, the XRP/USD pair can slump to $0.35 and below that to $0.26913, completing a 100 percent retracement of the recent rally.
BCH/USD
In the past two days, Bitcoin Cash has rallied sharply, breaking out of both moving averages and the resistance line of the descending channel. This has flattened both the moving averages and has pushed the RSI above 50 levels, which is considered positive. Above $600, the rally can extend to $660.
The bears are currently attempting to push the price back below the moving averages. A break down of the 20-day EMA will indicate weakness and can result in a retest of the recent lows at $408.0182.
The downtrend will resume if the BCH/USD pair breaks down of $408.0182. Traders who are long on our recommendation should keep a stop loss of $400. Partial profits can be booked at $660 and the stops on the rest should be raised to breakeven.
EOS/USD
EOS held the 50-day SMA for the past three days and the bulls have succeeded in pushing the price above $5.65, which is encouraging. The recovery can extend to $6.3117 and above that to $6.8299.
The 20-day EMA is sloping up and the 50-day SMA is flat. The RSI has also entered the positive territory, which suggests that the buyers have the upper hand in the short-term.
Our bullish view will be invalidated if the EOS/USD pair breaks down of $5. Therefore, traders can raise the stops on their long positions to $4.9.
XLM/USD
Stellar is stuck between the downtrend line of the descending triangle and the 20-day EMA. A break out of the overhead resistance zone of $0.275–$0.305 will invalidate the bearish pattern, which is a positive sign.
The upside targets are a move to $0.36, followed by a rally to $0.46. The rising 20-day EMA and the RSI in the positive territory show that the bulls have an advantage in the short-term.
Our bullish view on the XLM/USD pair will be invalidated if the bears sink the price below the 50-day EMA. Therefore, the bulls can hold their long positions with the stop loss at $0.21.
LTC/USD
Though Litecoin is range bound, it is attracting some buying. The price has risen well above the 50-day SMA, which is a positive sign.
The bulls are likely to attempt a break out of the range within the next few days. If successful, the LTC/USD pair will complete a double bottom formation that has a minimum target objective of $89.
The RSI has climbed into the positive zone and the moving averages are on the verge of a bullish crossover, which increases the probability of a break out of the range.
We suggest traders wait for the price to sustain above $69.279 for about four hours and then initiate long positions.
The initial stop loss can be placed just below the September 12 lows, and trailed higher to $54 if the breakout fails to pick up momentum. We are attempting to catch a change in trend, hence, expect some volatility and whipsaws. Please keep the position size at about 50 percent of usual.
ADA/USD
The recovery in Cardano has again hit a roadblock at the 50-day SMA. The bears will now try to break down of the 20-day EMA and push the price to the lower support at $0.071355. A breakdown of this support can result in a retest of the lows at $0.060105.
If the bulls defend $0.071355, the 20-day EMA and the RSI point to a range formation. The  ADA/USD pair will attract buyers if the price breaks out of the 50-day SMA and the highs of September 23.
We didn’t find a reliable buy setup at the current levels. Therefore, we are not recommending a long position on the pair.
XMR/USD
Though Monero has held the 20-day EMA for the past four days, it has failed to sustain above $120. This shows selling at higher levels. The bears will now attempt to break below the 20-day EMA and push the price towards the 50-day SMA.
If the XMR/USD pair breaks down of the symmetrical triangle, it can slide to $96.390 and $87.382. Therefore, we suggest traders keep a stop at $100 on their long positions.
Currently, the 20-day EMA is sloping up while the 50-day SMA is flat. The RSI is close to the neutral territory, which points to a range formation in the near-term. The first bullish sign will be a break out of the downtrend line, which can result in a rally to $140.
DASH/USD
Dash has been holding the 50-day SMA for the past three days but is struggling to sustain above the 20-day EMA. It has formed a symmetrical triangle, a break out of which can push the price above the overhead resistance of $224.830.
On the other hand, if the DASH/USD pair breaks down of the triangle, it can decline to $160, followed by a retest of the lows.
Both moving averages have turned flat and the RSI is at the midpoint. This shows a state of equilibrium between the buyers and the sellers. The next move will start when the price breaks out or breaks down of the triangle.

Wiebe: From Javi to GBS, ranking the top 5 Argentine 10s in MLS history
USA Today Sports Images
April 20, 20182:49PM EDT
A legend hung up his boots a week ago, and there was barely a murmur in Major League Soccer circles. Javier Morales deserved better.
For me, Morales will always be the point of the diamond, the magic man who helped Real Salt Lake shed their expansion skin and become a powerhouse in this league. I began voraciously consuming the daily MLS news in 2007 – the Beckham effect, I guess – and I distinctly remember when RSL signed Morales, Fabian Espindola and Matias Mantilla that August.
Morales tallied an assist just 40 seconds into his debut, a sign of things to come. A year later, the Buenos Aires native, who’d bounced from club to club before landing in Utah, dropped a six- goal, 15-assist season, signed a four-year extension and it was clear we were watching the beginning of something special.
First came the opening of Rio Tinto Stadium, then the first of seven consecutive playoff appearances, then the MLS Cup triumph, then the run to the Concacaf Champions League final that united the entire league behind RSL in their quest to make history as Morales established himself as one of the league’s best-ever No. 10s.
There were disappointments, too. Humberto Suazo spoiled the CCL party. The club lost both the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup finals in 2013. An acrimonious goodbye unfolded between Morales and RSL that didn’t reflect what either party had meant to each other over the years and, finally, one last season in Dallas that saw Morales join the 50-50 club but fall short of the postseason.
Now, there are fond memories, a lasting legacy and a place among the all-time great Argentines who have carved a place out in the MLS history books, and hearts and minds of the fans who supported them in the stadium or simply admired them from afar.
Today, we see Morales’ legacy carry on through Ignacio Piatti, Mauro Diaz, Luciano Acosta, Kaku, Ezequiel Barco, Tomas Martinez and a few of the names you see below on my list of the top Argentine No. 10s in MLS history.
5. Federico Higuain (Columbus Crew SC, 2012-present)
50 G (17 PKs), 51 A in 156 games (151 starts) – 0.34 G/90, 0.35 A/90
INDIVIDUAL: 2012 Newcomer of the Year
I have a feeling we’ll never properly appreciate Pipa, one of just 19 players to join MLS’s 50-50 club. If you don’t remember his introduction to the league back in 2012 – Higuain tried and succeeded in chipping just about everyone on his way to a half-season Newcomer of the Year nod – go back and watch the footage.
His knack for finding and exploiting the gap between opponent’s back line and midfield and ability to open up the field for his teammates via the half-turn is elite. He scores, he assists, he made Columbus his home and he’d absolutely be remembered differently had Crew SC won MLS Cup in 2015.
4. Christian Gomez (D.C. United, 2004-2007, 2009 | Colorado Rapids, 2008)
[embedded content]
48 G (6 PKs), 39 A in 144 games (130 starts) – 0.40 G/90, 0.33 A/90
INDIVIDUAL: 3x Best XI (2005, 2006, 2007), 3x All-Star (2005, 2006, 2007), 2006 MLS MVP
TEAM: MLS Cup (2004), Supporters’ Shield (2006, 2007)
I know, I know. There’s an argument to be made that Gomez was more of a second striker than No. 10, but he wore the number and I’m not at all interested in getting into the semantics here.
Let’s just all agree that Gomez deserves more respect. I almost never hear anyone throwing it back to the man who was arguably the league’s best player from 2004 to 2007 as D.C. United restocked their trophy case with a Cup and two Shields.
He was an assist in 2005 and 2007 from dropping three straight double-double seasons of goals and assists, and picked up an MVP award and three Best XI nods in three years. The only reason he’s fourth is that the top three are in an echelon all their own.
3. Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake, 2007-2016 | FC Dallas, 2017)
[embedded content]
50 G (11 PKs), 83 A in 255 games (225 starts) – 0.22 G/90, 0.37 A/90
INDIVIDUAL: 1x Best XI (2010), 2x All-Star (2009, 2010)
TEAM: MLS Cup (2009)
Morales spent a decade in Utah, toiling away to help make RSL the club they are today. He’s an undisputed legend of the club, and has 100 more games played than anyone else on this list and by far the most combined goals and assists.
And yet, for whatever reason, Morales never got the individual plaudits to go along with his influence on RSL and the league.
2. Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers, 2013-present)
[embedded content]
61 G (13 PKs), 55 A in 154 games (148 starts) – 0.43 G/90, 0.39 A/90
INDIVIDUAL: 2013 Newcomer of the Year, 3x Best XI (2013, 2014, 2017), 3x All-Star (2014, 2016, 2017), 2015 MLS Cup MVP, 2017 MLS MVP
TEAM: MLS Cup (2015)
Goals, assists, awards, a championship parade and heartfelt connection to the community … Valeri is basically the prototype No. 10 in MLS, and he’s done it for years in Portland despite wavering results, a devastating injury and a rotating cast of teammates.
Valeri has done everything right, and he’s still got more to give after an MVP season in which he put the Timbers on his back and carried them to first place in the Western Conference … but he’s not No. 1 on my list. That title goes to the man who helped inspire Valeri’s MLS move in the first place.
1. Guillermo Barros Schelotto (Columbus Crew SC, 2007-2010)
[embedded content]
33 G (13 PKs), 41 A in 102 games (96 starts) – 0.36 G/90, 0.45 A/90
INDIVIDUAL: 2x Best XI (2007, 2008), 4x All-Star (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), 2008 MLS Cup MVP, 2008 MLS MVP
TEAM: MLS Cup (2008), Supporters’ Shield (2008, 2009)
Bow down, a la the Nordecke, to the man I consider MLS’s greatest Argentine.
This pick is based both on productivity and personal preference. Schelotto arrived in Columbus a day after his 34th birthday in 2007. What he accomplished with Crew SC and his lasting influence before departing in 2010 is unparalleled. Just check out the statline, the individual awards and the team accomplishments he stockpiled in less than four years.
He was adored, he was dominant and he’s since played a big role in guiding the likes of Valeri and Piatti to MLS. He’s No. 1 in my book, and it’s not even close.

Ramblings: Lucky 28 for Connor and Ehlers; Niemi Blanks Buffalo; Hall Wills Devils – March 24
Vladimir Tarasenko returned to the lineup for St. Louis after missing the last couple of games with an upper-body injury. At least head-to-head fantasy owners will get him for this weekend and heading into next week. For those that needed all of his games this week, well, sorry about that.
He wouldn’t specify what the injury was, by the way.
He did, however, score in his return to the lineup.
*
Pretty big news from the Flames on Friday:
Breaking: #Flames source confirms that C Sean Monahan has been shut down for remainder of season. Tight-lipped about specifics, but will need surgery to repair one of his two injuries. Full story …https://t.co/b3YP9RFIWF
— Wes Gilbertson (@WesGilbertson) March 23, 2018
Not that Calgary really had much of a chance left for the playoffs – they would have had to basically win out and get some help along the way – but with Monahan out for the season, that probably seals their fate.
This is very bad news for anyone heading to head-to-head finals as well. For the time being, Sam Bennett may be the pickup because he was centering Johnny Gaudreau in practice. Whether that lasts remains to be seen but that’s what they have right now.
Mikael Backlund was moved to the top PP unit.
*
Remember when it looked like Patrik Laine would miss about a week after that blocked shot that took him out? He didn’t even miss a game, as he was back in the lineup for Winnipeg for Friday night’s home game against Anaheim. Great news for fantasy owners and just hockey fans in general. It wouldn’t have been right to see the Rocket Richard Trophy decided in that manner.
*
Noah Hanifin was at practice Friday for the Hurricanes while Justin Faulk was not. Faulk is considered a game-time decision so have a back-up plan ready if you’re going to rely on him for Saturday night’s game against Ottawa.
*
Jamie Benn may have scored the goal of the night. It’s also what one may call Vintage Jamie Benn:
.@jamiebenn14 doubles the lead with a shorty. pic.twitter.com/H40PLISSyC
— NHL GIFs (@NHLGIFs) March 24, 2018
It’s always good to see him making those power moves.
*
Antti Niemi posted a 35-save shutout in Buffalo to lead the Habs to a 3-0 win. That score may be a little misleading as the final two Montreal goals – 18th of the season from Paul Byron and 27th of the season from Brendan Gallagher – came with an empty net.
That game was Niemi’s 15th start and 17th appearance for the Canadiens and his save percentage is now up to .936 with that franchise. Hockey!
Artturi Lehkonen was the only Hab to score with an actual goalie in the net and that gives him eight goals in his last 23 games. It’s not a shooting binge, either, as his percentage is at 12.2 percent over that stretch. It’ll be interesting to see where he slots in the lineup next year. He continues to put up very good shot volume and maybe he was just a bit unlucky. Maybe he can crack 20 goals next season? Just something to keep in mind for deeper drafts.
*
Despite being outshot 42-18, the Ducks managed to scrape a point out of a 3-2 overtime loss to Winnipeg. Thanks, John Gibson!
Kyle Connor scored the deciding goal, his 28th of the season. Nikolaj Ehlers scored Winnipeg’s first goal of the game, also his 28th of the season. Only two teams since the 2012-13 lockout season have had three different 30-goal scorers: the 2015-16 Stars and 2015-16 Bruins. Boston could get there again this year if Bergeron came come back soon. Tampa Bay could as well.
Mark Scheifele figured into all three Jets goals with a tally and two helpers.
*
All the praise, and rightfully so, has gone to Taylor Hall for the Devils’ season, with a little splash of rookie Nico Hischier. I would like to heap some praise on another Devils player who has become a very underrated fantasy commodity.
It was a rough first half for Kyle Palmieri who broke his foot in November and missed four weeks. He hasn’t really missed a beat since returning just before Christmas, though, posting 16 goals and 27 points in 41 games (heading into Friday night’s action). In fact, since the start of the 2015-16 season, he’s one of just 21 forwards with per-game averages of 2.5 shots or better, 0.35 goals or better, and 0.32 assists or better. Of those 21 forwards, he’s one of 11 players with at least 100 penalty minutes. Quite simply, over the past (nearly) three season, he’s been one of the better across-the-board performers in the fantasy game.
It’s not as if this came out of nowhere, either. Over his final three seasons in Anaheim, in a reduced role, he scored goals at a similar rate per 60 minutes to Ryan Getzlaf and had the same points rate as Patrick Maroon. He got his chance to shine when he came to New Jersey and he’s not wasted it.
I’m bullish on Palmieri next year. The top line for the Devils should be the same for the most part and there’s no real threat to his top-line status. Let’s hope that his month missed suppresses his ADP, which was already low this year, being routinely drafted outside the top-10 rounds of 12-team leagues.
*
On the other hand, Hall did nearly will the Devils to a 4-3 overtime win over Pittsburgh on Friday night. He had a goal, two assists, six additional shots, a blocked shot, and a hit for good measure. His goal was the overtime winner and though he finished the play, it was really Nico Hischier who did all the work:
The effort from Hischier on this play is fantastic. This Devil's team is the opposite of the 90's era Devils we all had to suffer through. pic.twitter.com/NxHJcnLPeb
— Mike Pfeil (@mikeFAIL) March 24, 2018
Those three points give Hall 81 for the season, which is a new career best.
Phil Kessel scored for the Penguins and that was his 30th of the season. Though long known as a goal scorer, it’s actually his first 30-goal season since 2013-14. It was his 83rd point as well, which sets a career-high for him.
Keith Kinkaid saved 40 of 43 shots in the win. He has a .931 save percentage over his last 10 games. I would have to assume that unless Kinkaid gets hurt, it’s his net now. I don’t want to outright say that Cory Schneider is droppable but man, it’s certainly looking that way. If you need a start from someone else on the waiver wire this weekend, I wouldn’t hesitate to toss him.
*
Brad Marchand had a three-point game for the Bruins, a goal and and two assists, including a short-handed point. It’s a career-high three short-handed assists for him this year. He also tied his single-season high for assists. You’d have to wonder what his season’s final point tallies would look like if he could stop getting suspended. He assisted on Pastrnak's winning goal with seconds left in the third period with the Stars blowing a 2-0 third-period lead to lose 3-2 in regulation.
*
The injury to Jacob Trouba has me thinking about another Jets defenceman. No, not that one. I mean Josh Morrissey.
DID YOU KNOW: over the last two seasons, Morrissey has the same rate of primary points (goals plus first assists) per 60 minutes at five-on-five (0.52) as Colton Parayko? And it’s higher than names like Oliver Ekman-Larsson (0.51), Aaron Ekblad and Drew Doughty (0.45), Mark Giordano (0.41), and Shayne Gostisbehere (0.37). That is a pretty good list of fantasy production on which to find yourself.
The problem, of course, is that he’s going to be stuck behind Trouba (assuming he’s re-signed, which he will be) and Dustin Byfuglien for years to come, at least in regards to the power play. He could still eat up a lot of five-on-five minutes as he’s probably the team’s top left-shot d-man (I say probably because Tobias Enstrom is still pretty good defensively), but power-play time will be sparse.
Until (unless?) the hierarchy changes, the best way to view Morrissey in the fantasy game is probably Mattias Ekholm with more hits, for leagues that count that. He’s very talented but with the glut of offensive options ahead of him on the blue line, unless there are injuries, PP points will be tough to amass, meaning a 35-point season is as much as we can hope for.
*
Speaking of defencemen, it’s time we accept Rasmus Ristolainen for who he is. His per-game rates this season are pretty much the same as they were, across the board, the previous two seasons. He hasn’t really taken a step forward in his game but he’s a volume monster. Until the team improves on the ice – and he’s a big part of that – expecting him to take the next step in the fantasy game to 50-point seasons regularly is misguided. It’ll be interesting to see where his ADP shakes out next year. He was a top-20 defenceman by ADP this season but with time missed and no further improvement, does that drop next season? I would think so.
*
I know it’s fun to pile on the Blackhawks for the trade they made sending Artemi Panarin to Columbus for Brandon Saad. It looks like the Jackets will make playoffs while the Blackhawks will not. Panarin will crack 70 points again for the third straight year while Saad might not reach half that. I get it.
Yes, this is Saad’s worst offensive season as a player. Is he really just playing poorly, though? I know I’ve discussed it before but it’s worth reiterating seeing as where the discussion has been for the last week or so:
His five-on-five shooting percentage this year is 7.45 percent, a career-low. He had never been below 9.68 percent and his three-year average from 2014-17 – which covers both Chicago and Columbus – was over 11 percent.
That very low five-on-five shooting percentage is going to lead to his lowest goals per 60 minutes (0.77) since 2013-14. He had not been below 1.00 since that season. This is despite the fact that he has a career-high per-minute shooting rate.
His individual expected goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five this year (1.06) is actually higher than his three-year (0.95) average prior to 2017-18.  That means he’s not just shooting the puck at a career-high rate from all over the ice, he’s still getting his scoring chances. They’re just not going in.
His individual points percentage – the rate he garners a point when he’s on the ice – of 51.6 percent is also a career-low and the next-lowest isn’t even close (61 percent in 2013-14).
Almost everything that could go wrong for Saad, offensively, has gone wrong. How many times do we have to see an established player have one bad season before we stop piling on and just accept it for what it likely is?
Saad is going to come at a huge discount next year by ADP and I will be whole-heartedly buying. Just be ready for when he goes off for 25 goals and 50 points again next season.

Relentless in its development of world-class sports cars, Lotus has unveiled the new Evora GT410 Sport to complete the revised line-up of Hethel’s fastest model.
Launched in Lotus’ 70th year and ahead of its anniversary celebrations, the new Evora GT410 Sport takes one of Lotus’ success stories, and refines it through the application of enlightened design. Available in both 2 seat and 2+2 configurations, and in manual and automatic transmissions, the Evora GT410 Sport draws from the phenomenal Evora GT430 to provide advanced aerodynamics to an already celebrated sports car.
Combining the latest design philosophy with a car acclaimed by both critics and customers, it packs raw performance with Lotus’ latest aerodynamic developments, to provide a first-class replacement for the Evora Sport 410 model.
Employing key elements of the GT430’s sculptured body style, including specifically designed new composite front and rear body panels, but without some of the high downforce elements, the new Evora GT410 Sport enjoys a far subtler and sleeker silhouette. However, as with all Lotus sports cars, aerodynamic downforce is a requirement and this new GT-class coupe generates up to 96kg of downforce (50% more than the Evora Sport 410) making it the new benchmark when compared to similarly priced rivals.
The Evora GT410 Sport is powered by a specially calibrated and tuned higher-output version of Lotus’ supercharged, 3.5-litre 6-cylinder engine with integrated water-to-air charge cooler, producing 410 hp at 7000 rpm and 420 Nm of torque from 3500 rpm. It powers the GT410 Sport from 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds (automatic) and the manual version in 4.0 seconds.
The development of the new Evora GT410 Sport afforded Lotus the opportunity to optimise mass, resulting in an unladen weight of 1,297 kg and a lightest possible dry weight of 1,256 kg (including all the optional titanium exhaust, saving 10 kg, and the Lotus-tuned Öhlins TTX aluminium two-way adjustable dampers, saving 13 kg) – a total saving of 98 kg when compared to the Evora 400 benchmark, and up to 28 kg less than the already featherweight Evora Sport 410.
We are continually exploring new ideas, innovating and evolving our cars in pursuit of perfection. The new Evora GT410 Sport takes the lessons learnt from the development of the GT430 to deliver something outstanding and highly capable. — Jean-Marc Gales, CEO, Group Lotus plc
Lotus Evora GT410 Sport In More Detail
Lotus’ newly defined GT-class sports car captures the essence of the company’s headline model. The application of top-down evolution introduces the new front and rear aesthetic, first seen on the GT430. As a result, the car’s design combines considerable physical presence with natural aerodynamic ability.
The revised front panel features two enlarged carbon fiber ducts, with integrated air blades, to efficiently move air around the front wheels reducing turbulence and decreasing drag. Additional downforce is created by the combination of the deep front splitter and new motorsport-derived rear diffuser, mounted beneath the new style metal mesh grille which gives a cleaner finish. Sculptured carbon fiber ducts behind each rear wheel vent high-pressure air as quickly as possible from the rear wheel arches, balancing downforce.
Cumulatively this all works to boost downforce to 96 kg at 190 mph, a sizable jump of 50% over the outgoing Evora Sport 410, and a massive three-times that of the Evora 400 with an improved drag coefficient. This elevates the Evora GT410 Sport to the top ranks of Lotus’ most aerodynamically efficient road cars.
As with all high-performance Evoras, carbon fiber plays a considerable role in the car’s construction. Standard carbon composite components include the front access panel, roof panel and a one-piece louvered tailgate with integrated spoiler, as well as the elements within the front air blade system and rear wheel exit ports.
This focus on the car’s critical mass delivers its headline power-to-weight ratio of 326 hp/tonne and the top speed to 190 mph (305 km/h).
Despite the car’s low mass, a range of lightweight options can be specified for the Evora GT410 Sport. This includes a titanium exhaust, cutting 10 kg from beyond the car’s rear axle.
Making the most of the traction on tap, the Evora GT410 Sport uses Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (235/35 R19 at the front and 285/30 R20 at the rear) with a sports suspension package of Eibach ultra-light, low-sideload springs and Bilstein sports dampers – all fitted as standard.
A touring suspension package is available as a no-cost option, featuring Bilstein® non-adjustable dampers, with touring specification, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
For full damper adjustability, a race suspension package using Lotus-tuned lightweight Öhlins TTX aluminum two-way adjustable dampers (twenty click adjustment compression and rebound) which save 13 kg, can be specified to tune the Evora GT410 Sport to precisely suit particular road or track conditions.
Reducing un-sprung mass, ultra-lightweight, fully machined, forged aluminum wheels (19″ 8J front and 20″ 9.5J rear 10 spoke alloy wheels) are available in either silver or matt black. The option of upgrading to one inch wider (10.5J) rear wheels as used on the Evora GT430, is available and stopping power comes courtesy of AP Racing four-piston calipers front and rear with lightweight 2-piece cross-drilled and ventilated brake discs (front 370mm x 32mm, rear 350mm x 32mm).
In addition to Lotus’ slick, six-speed manual gearbox with a Torsen type limited slip differential (LSD), the Evora GT410 Sport is also available with an automatic transmission option. Slightly quicker through the gears, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.9 seconds, the six-speed automatic transmission utilizes an optimised gearbox ECU for ultra-fast changes. Gear selection is made via lightweight aluminum paddles mounted to the steering wheel.
The new Evora GT410 Sport features four driver-selectable ESP modes – selected via a dashboard switch. ‘Drive’, ‘Sport’, ‘Race’ and ‘Off’. Sport and Race settings increase throttle response, respectively increasing traction slip – allowing the driver a finer degree of control before intervention.
As with its Evora stablemates, the Evora GT410 Sport cabin includes Lotus’ beautifully detailed carbon race seats (2+0 configuration only) and carbon door sill inserts. The steering wheel, dashboard, door panels, transmission tunnel, center console and instrument binnacle are all trimmed in black Alcantara®, complemented by contrast twin color stitching. Optional Sparco race seats are available in both 2+0 and 2+2 configurations with the latter requiring either the optional wider 10.5J rear wheel option, as featured on the Evora GT430, or the lightweight forged wheel option from the Evora 400, which benefits from a 9.5J rear wheel size.  An integrated 7” touch-screen infotainment system with AppleCarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth® functionality, satellite navigation and reversing camera can also be specified.
Jean-Marc Gales concluded:
Starting 2018 in style, the Evora GT410 Sport is just the beginning of an incredibly strong year for Lotus. The core principles of Lotus and our founder Colin Chapman remain paramount as we work on the next generation of vehicles whilst building our best sports cars yet.
Every new Lotus Evora GT410 Sport can be personalized through the increasingly popular Lotus Exclusive programme. Developed by the Lotus Design team to inspire customers, it combines traditional British craftsmanship with the best of modern design and allows owners to tailor vehicles to their personal taste. Since its introduction last year, roughly a third of all new Lotus cars now undergo some form of customisation.
The new, fully homologated Lotus Evora GT410 Sport range can be ordered now in European and Asia Pacific markets, following in summer 2018 for the USA and China.
