Irene Dunne and Myrna Loy in Thirteen Women (George Archainbaud, 1932)
Cast: Irene Dunne, Myrna Loy, Ricardo Cortez, Jill Esmond, Mary Duncan, Kay Johnson, Florence Eldridge, C. Henry Gordon, Peg Entwistle, Harriet Hagman, Edward Pawley, Blanche Friderici, Wally Albright. Screenplay: Bartlett Cormack, Samuel Ornitz, based on a novel by Tiffany Thayer. Cinematography: Leo Tover. Art direction: Carroll Clark. Film editing: Charles L. Kimball. Music: Max Steiner.
Myrna Loy was born Myrna Williams in Helena, Montana, but you wouldn't know it from the way Hollywood often cast her at the start of her career in the '20s and '30s. Her role in Thirteen Women is probably the purest example of her work as the stereotypical sinister Eurasian. She plays Ursula Georgi, whom the cop played by Ricardo Cortez scorns as "Half-breed type. Half Hindu, half Javanese, I don't know." (Actually, Cortez himself knew something about crossing ethnic lines: He was born Jacob Krantz in New York, but Hollywood changed his name to capitalize on the vogue for Latin lovers like Rudolph Valentino and Ramon Novarro, and later claimed first that he was French and later that he was born in Vienna.) Ursula seeks revenge on the women who belonged to a sorority at a girls' college and blackballed her when she sought admission. She seeks out a phony seer known as Swami Yogadachi (C. Henry Gordon), whose horoscope readings the girls sought out, and hypnotizes him into sending them poison-pen readings that predict dire events. Two of the girls, the sisters June (Mary Duncan) and May Raskob (Harriet Hagman), have become trapeze artists, and June is so unnerved by the fake reading that she lets May fall to her death during a stunt and goes mad as a consequence. As others fall prey to Ursula's schemes, some of the survivors gather at the home of Laura Stanhope (Irene Dunne), who thinks that their hysteria over the deaths is absurd. Laura is the single mother of a son, Bobby (Wally Albright), who is one of those cloyingly cute movie children -- he calls her "Mumsy." But even Laura's calm vanishes when Ursula makes Bobby her next target. In addition to being stupidly racist, the movie is sheer hokum, a cockamamie blend of revenge thriller and police procedural, and it was not much of a success at the box office, even after RKO cut 14 minutes from it after test screenings -- one of the reasons why we learn the fates of only 10 of the 13 women. One of the performances cut to only four minutes was that of Peg Entwistle, who played Hazel, the one who kills her husband and goes to prison. Entwistle was reportedly so despondent about her movie career that she climbed to the top of one of the letters on the Hollywood sign (reports vary on whether it was the H or the D) and jumped to her death. As for Loy, this was her last outing as a Eurasian vamp: The Thin Man (W.S. Van Dyke, 1934) changed her screen image to that of the witty and soignée wife, most often of William Powell.

Candace Cameron Bure is thankful for her husband, Val, and their 28 years of marriage.
While speaking about her new film UNSUNG HERO with US Weekly, Bure opened up about her marriage.
She credits “A lot of love and respect for each other” and “the grace of God” for keeping the couple together.
“We’ll be 28 years in June, and no one has a perfect marriage, and there are trials along the way. But I’m grateful we’ve stuck through them too,” Bure said.
“Another thing that I can just relate…within the movie, just that marriage relationship, but I think above all we just want what’s best for each other,” she added. “We want to do everything we can to stay together. And a lot of times it just means being selfless and like putting your sense of control aside and going ‘how do we work on this together?’”
The couple met through Bure’s FULL HOUSE costar Dave Coulier and married in 1996. They share three children: Natasha, Lev, and Maksim.
“There’s a lot of humility in marriage, let’s just say that. You got to put your pride aside,” the Great American Family actress explained.
Bure recently appeared in the film UNSUNG HERO, which tells the origin story of the popular Christian bands for KING + COUNTRY and Rebecca St. James.
She plays the Smallbones’ family friend, Kay Albright.
“Man, I devoured that script,” she told Andrew Erwin. “I really did. I devoured it, and I was like, ‘Yes. Yes, you guys need to make this. Yes, I would love to be a part of it, whether it is as a producer’ – and then it was like, well, there’s an acting part, so I was like, yeah, bonus.”

Name: Malax Shard Nickname: Malla, Mal, Lax, Crystal Squid, Half-Breed, Miss Shard Age: 18 Gender: Female Birthday: June 20th Sexual Orientation: Bisexual Ethnicity: Chimera Sui Generis/Petrosapien Personality: Bold, Brave, Dutiful, Valiant, Stubborn, Leading, Honest, Playful, Respectful, Alert. Hobbies: Training, Flying in ships or using her hoverboard, Collecting and crafting weapons, Crafting out of marble, crystals or stone, Challenging others. Family:
Tetrax Shard - (Father/Malax has high respect for her father, and wants to be a lot like him, being trained by him since she was young. She’s learnt a lot from him, both for fighting and general stuff about life. She is well aware of his history, and the things he has done, but she will always be her hero, and someone she deeply trusts.)
Myaxx - (Mother/They pair have a playful dynamic, often teasing one another or making snarky comments in a way they express their love. Similar to Tetrax, Myaxx wants to make sure her daughter doesn’t follow in the same path she once did when she was younger, and is proud of the person their daughter is becoming.)
Gluto - (Uncle Figure/Growing up, Gluto was Malax’s number one babysitter. He adored Malax, and was happy to take on an uncle role, no questions asked. He also gives the best hugs, according to Malax. He’s someone she goes to if she feels she can’t go to her parents for advice, or just needs a different form of love to seek comfort from. He’s also helped her learn how to drive many ships growing up.)
Friends:
Jay Tennyson - (Friend/Teammate/While Malax may be the leader of their squad, she knows one day that Jay will take over, seeing the potential in the young boy. So she does what she can to help encourage him, teach him, and generally looks out for him. She knows very well that his kind heart and forgiving nature is something needed to make a great hero, even if people doubt this side of him. So she has a lot of faith in Jay, and listens to him when she can.)
Thea Tennyson - (Friend/Teammate/The two have a fun friendship, being the heavy hitters of the team, and taking no nonsense from anyone. They are playfully sarcastic with each other, and even jokingly ‘flirt’ and call each other babe as a running inside joke. However, Malax also doesn’t take any of Thea’s Crap, and is often the one who has to give her a hard talking to if she acts up on missions. She just wants Thea to be the best she can be.)
Rook Rilla - (Friend/Teammate/Malax respects her team’s medic, and understands who Rilla is as a person, and thus doesn’t take her dry demeanour towards them personally. However, Malax also isn’t above teasing her, and enjoys making Rilla fluster or get mildly frustrated for a good laugh. She trusts Rilla’s medical knowledge though, and will take what she says seriously, knowing Rilla isn’t one to joke about it.)
Becky Armstrong - (Friend/Rival/Being leaders on different teams, Becky and Malax have a natural, yet friendly rivalry. Doesn’t help that Malax is the only one out of the two groups that can tank a lot of Becky’s hits, and vice versa. They share a lot of leadership advice with one another, and know they can rely on each other when things get tough.)
Aurora Mann - (Friend/Malax can appreciate Aurora’s humour, and finds her set of abilities very impressive, and wants to make sure Aurora does understand this, even if they’re on different teams. So she doesn’t mind offering a compliment or word of advice from time to time.)
Channer Daniels - (Friend/In all honesty, Channer is quite something to Malax. She’s aware of how smart they are, and the power behind their tech powers. She trusts Channer enough to not do anything too dangerous, but has had to step in a couple time to stop Channer from blowing something up.)
Cyra Albright - (Friend/Seeing her as being similar to Jay, Malax understands that Cyra is the young, heart of the team, with a lot of her father’s kindness. Again, this is something that Malax hopes stays with her, knowing that a good heart is something any Plumber needs.)
Azmuth (Family Friend/Unfortunately for Azmuth, Malax, like many of the other kids, have been placed under his watch many times, especially since Myaxx is his assistant. So Malax grew up around Azmuth, and likes to treat him like family, often calling him “Gramps” Or “Old man”, knowing it annoys him. But she does accept a lot of wisdom from him, and has learnt some needed lessons from him.)
Sugilite - (Family Friend/In truth, Malax doesn’t see Sugilite too often, due to Tetrax’s relationship with his homeworld. But the times they do meet, Sugilite does take special interest in her, seeing her as a good sign for the future, and knowing she won’t repeat the same mistakes her parents made. Despite not knowing him that well, Malax can’t help but deeply trust him and his words, always being respectful around him.
Enemies:
Eldrigma - (Enemies/Given that Eldrigma seems to be their first real big problem, Malax takes the whole situation with him seriously, instantly turning serious whenever he’s around or mentioned. It doesn’t help that her two alien sides seem to displease Eldrigma, for some reason. Truthfully, Malax is terrified that she might make a mistake, and get her team into trouble around this man, but knows they can’t ignore this problem and do nothing about it. But even she feels there is something more to this man then people let on.)
Vesper - (Enemies/While Malax feels awful for Vesper’s situation, she can’t find it in her to care when this lady keeps trying to kill her teammates. She may understand Vesper’s problem, but that doesn’t mean she won’t treat her like a criminal.)
Alate - (Enemies/Hates Alate more than anything, given the kind of things he puts Jay through. She wants nothing more than to lock this bug away and send him to the darkest parts of the galaxy, and always feels uneasy around him.)
Sciros - (Enemies/Malax doesn’t like Sciros, but she is cautious around him. He may not be as loud or bold as most enemies they face, but he is still dangerous, especially in how he handles the young kids he’s taken in, forcing them to do a lot of their dirty work. He’s smart, clever, and ruthless, something Malax always notices.)
Representing Song: Heroes Of Today - Once Monsters Skills: Crystallokinesis. Laser/Light Refraction. Marksmanship. Hand-To-Combat. Weapons/Gadget Usage. Small Regeneration. Water/Land-Breathing. Hybrid Biology. Hoverboard/Spacecraft/General Vehicle Knowledge. Coiled Arms & Legs Tendrils. Weakness/Flaws/Fears: Can crack and shatter parts of her if impacted with enough force or exposed to strong sonic vibrations. Hot environments aren’t the best for her, as it dries her out. Light shining on her crystals can give away her hidden position. Due to her crystals, Malax can breathe under water, but is too heavy to swim, only able to walk along the bottom. Being the leader of her team does make her put them first before her own needs, and will be very hard on herself if any mission goes wrong. Admittedly, she can sometimes be subconscious about she represents with parents, and the people she comes from.

Militarily, the United States has been the primary source of Morocco's weaponry in the conflict over Western Sahara. The United States provided the most support for the Royal Moroccan Air Force, which was critical when the POLISARIO began using Soviet built weapons such as the Soviet-built SA-6 surface-to-air missiles to counter the growing effectiveness of the Royal Moroccan Air Force.[35] Thus, the United States has a history of supporting Morocco in its conflict over Western Sahara.[...]
In the 1970s, the United States supported Morocco's annexation,[43] and made an effort to modernize Morocco's military to help with its conflict over Western Sahara. The United States focused particularly on Morocco's Royal Moroccan Air Force. Help from the United States was especially important when the Polisario deployed Soviet-built SA-6 surface-to-air missiles to counter the growing effectiveness of the Royal Moroccan Air Force.[35] However, The Carter Administration shackled military support and weapons sales to Morocco with pre-conditions, stating the U.S. would only trade military supplies with Morocco for the purpose of modernizing Morocco's military, but not to assist with the conflict over Western Sahara. On the other hand, the Reagan Administration dropped all conditions in supporting the Moroccans, as the need for staging bases in North Africa for the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force made access to Morocco's airfields strategically important.[35][...]
In the 1980s and early 1990s, Morocco secured about 1 billion dollars annually from Saudi Arabia to purchase arms and supplies from the United States to fight the POLISARIO and defend its claim to Western Sahara.[44] In November 1986, the United States military conducted joint exercises with Morocco off Western Sahara's Coast. In September 1987, the United States government sold Morocco 100 M-48A5 tanks, used for desert terrain.[45] During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the United States remained relatively silent on the issue, though it provided tacit support for Morocco.[46][...]
the idea of resolving the conflict in favor of Morocco has a sizeable following in U.S. policy circles, including strong support from the U.S. House of Representatives. In June 2007, former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, 173 members of Congress from both major American political parties, and 15 influential figures involved in national security and foreign policy signed a letter to President George W. Bush encouraging the President to get involved and assist bringing an end to the struggle. The letter cites international stability, the war against terrorism, economic integration and a long-standing allegiance with Morocco as some of the reasons for supporting Morocco and drawing the conflict over Western Sahara to a close. The letter stated, “Morocco’s commitment merits the support of the international community…”[51][...]
Speaking at [a] 2007 hearing, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, David Welch articulated that the Department of State sided with Morocco on the issue of Western Sahara. He explained that the conflict is a “…destabilizing element [which] thwarts regional ties, which are necessary for economic expansion, and it has had an effect on government-to-government cooperation within the Maghreb.”[54][...]
In response to the 2007 letter to President Bush, the 2008 Congressional Research Service report stated, “U.S. officials would prefer a solution to the Western Sahara dispute that would not destabilize Mohammed VI’s rule. They also believe that a settlement would enhance regional stability and economic prosperity.”[56]
Despite all of this, the United States at the time neither formally recognized Morocco's legitimate authority over Western Sahara nor Western Sahara's sovereignty.[56] However, the 2008 CRS Report noted that in 2007 the U.S. Undersecretary of State, Nicholas Burns backed Morocco's 2007 autonomy plan as “serious and credible.”[56]
As of 2008, the Moroccan forces in Western Sahara numbered around 100,000 (the majority of the Moroccan Army), while the POLISARIO was only supported by about 3,000 to 6,000 soldiers.[57][...]
In April 2009, 229 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, a clear majority and over 50 more than signed the letter in 2007, called on President Barack Obama to support Morocco's peace plan and to assist in drawing the conflict to a close. The signers included Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Republican Minority Leader John Boehner. In addition to noting that Western Sahara has become a recruiting post for Radical Islamists, the letter affirmed that the conflict is “the single greatest obstacle impending the security and cooperation necessary to combat” terrorism in the Maghreb[...]
The Congressmen expressed concerns about Western Sahara's viability. They referenced a UN fact-finding mission to Western Sahara which confirmed the State Department's view that the Polisario proposal, which ultimately stands for independence, would lead to a non-viable state. In closing, the letter stated, “We remain convinced that the U.S. position, favoring autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty is the only feasible solution.[...]
Members of the U.S. Senate, realizing similar “worrisome trends” in the region also drafted a letter of support for Morocco. In March 2010, a bi-partisan majority of U.S. Senators signed a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton calling for the United States to support Morocco's autonomy plan. Similar to the House of Representative's letter to President Obama, the 54 bipartisan Senators (30 Democrats and 24 Republicans) who signed the letter stated concerns about growing instability in the region, including a terrorist threat. The letter openly called on Secretary Clinton and the Obama Administration to provide: "…more sustained American attention to one of the region's most pressing political issues, the Western Sahara."[...]
Signers included Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and ranking Intelligence Committee member Senator Kit Bond (R-MO). In regards to Morocco's autonomy plan, Senator Feinstein said, "The way I feel about it, Morocco has been a staunch ally of the United States, this is a big problem, and this is a reasonable way to settle it."[60]
On December 10, 2020, President Donald Trump announced that the United States would officially recognize Morocco's claims over Western Sahara, as a result of Morocco agreeing to normalize relations with Israel.[61] [...]The following day, the Trump administration moved forward with $1 billion in sales of drones and other precision-guided weapons.[63]

So I’m back on my Scarecrow bs
Here are my Becky Albright headcanons and snapshots.
Becky was raised in an ultra-orthodox, Jewish family in Brooklyn (look, I'm jewish don't @ me). It's difficult. Perhaps too difficult. She seeks comfort in tradition and ceremony and yet, as she grows to come of age, the torment comes with it. She still found time to hone a vibrant, inner life, as isolated as it was. In a house with brothers and a domineering father, even her mother and sister don't provide reprieve. Her sister married early into Becky's teens, leaving her alone. As she grows starkly aware in her position as a woman in that community, unease begins to fester. Her fathers calls her Rivka.
The breaking point arrives when her parents don't take her to a doctor outside the community. Scoliosis is a beast when left observed (*This is my particular theory. Namely because I have scoliosis)
She is disowned by her parents at 17, but was taken in by more secular relatives. They buy her a cane and get her into an independent school tailored to teens from unconventional backgrounds.
Becky is a bit late to start college, only by a year or so, and continues to mostly keep to herself. She's early to graduate, though.
She's thankful to go to Gotham for law school instead of anywhere in New York. Too many ghosts. Turns out elitist co-eds evolve into elitist future lawyers. Becky Albright is perfect bait.
She has a lot of complicated feelings surrounding the Jonathan Crane Incident.
Somewhere in the midst, she gives in to impulse and desire. It's not a great situationship but it happens. Starts with them yelling at each other from opposite sides of a street. They stop at a certain point. Enough to catch breaths.
The next night they opt for a dive. Hunched over beers in a dingy, dimly lit basement bar she suggested. In a moment of weakness, she divulges her religious trauma.
She knows she made a mistake when they stagger back to her subletted closet and he calls her Rivka. This is a fear tactic she recognizes. She is repulsed.
Becky Albright is pregnant when she testifies. Just enough that anyone who looks close enough can notice. Not enough that anyone thinks to look for that extra second.
This doesn't make it easy for her. Especially as summer transitions into a new autumn semester. The other law students that tormented her to begin with are vicious now. She knows they know. The more she shows, the more she relies on her cane. Word gets out to her family. Not that she's spoken to them, herself. Through the grapevine, they remind her that none of this would have happened if she just embraced a frum lifestyle.
Studying law leaves a bad taste in her mouth.
Becky sleeps with most of the lights on. Every door double locked. She now shares her closet apartment with a newborn who looks far too much like her father.
Jonathan breaks out of Arkham one night. She debates. Contemplates. And leaves the door open.
She doesn't say anything when he slips in. She expected it. The baby co-sleeps beside her. Someone's got to sleep, at least. Jonathan slips in and stares a moment. Becky, aware, scoots to provide more room. Jonathan, still wearing the first yet rattiest thing he could find, lays on top of the covers. Same as Becky. It's the hottest June Gotham's seen in forty years. They don't talk. In a moment of shared vulnerability, he puts his hand on her freckled arm. He's gone by morning.
This becomes routine for them. One day he sleeps in by mistake. Becky's awake first. Sitting cross-legged on top of the quilt. The baby finally done fussing against her chest. "Hey." She says. Casual. Level. "Hello." Controlled. So much control going into that response.
When she graduates law school, no ones in attendance to see her. But she does find a bouquet of poppies in the kitchen.
The spare key to her apartment is not missing. It was given freely.

Are you having difficulty talking your loved ones into visiting a Celestial Temple Salon?
And even if you can, they still won't go because of the time a complete makeover can take, days, weeks, months even?
Or perhaps you want to change yourself but don't have the time for the full salon treatment.
Now thanks to a fantastic breakthrough, that is no longer the case.
Now it can all be done in the time it takes to get your car washed!
Just log on to our registration site, reserve a time, and type in the specific changes you want to take place and to whom in the car they will be aimed; all others in the vehicle not on the list will be unaffected; it’s best if the change is not the driver as the transformation can be quite startling, so someone else should be at the wheel after that.
After paying via Master Card, Visa, or Sino the Times Card, find the nearest Madame Shu Nu's New You Drive-Through booth, roll up to the sign-in pad, and put your assigned code in; the doors will open, and a conveyor belt will take your car and you in.
There, rays and harmonics will do their work, and thirty-four minutes later, it is all done!
Please note, because of the speed it being run by computers, and it being done by this new process, the results are often not the same as the slower way of transforming.  *
However, we are sure you will still be impressed with the results.
*  Fluctuations in age, height, the intensity of any implanted language, culture, or “style,” and other things can occur.

You will be amazed, like when Mary June Summer rolled in.
Tumblr media
And Ma Jung-Soo rolled out. Ready for some kimchi, Ms Jung-Soo?!?
Tumblr media
Perhaps you want to go Vegan?
Tumblr media
That too can be done!
Tumblr media
And yes, we will admit the speed can lead to a bit of wonkiness, such as when Mrs. Francis Albright came in to become a Japanese school girl as a birthday gift for her husband (You go Fran!). But the computer hickuped and...
Tumblr media
She came out a very dedicated Japanese school teacher! (sorry no take backs, Furukawa Albright, it’s in the small print) husband Dave’s algebra skills however have never been better, and she swears that she’ll have him fluent in Japanese in no time.
Tumblr media
Mary Hawkens was so happy with her total Filipina makeover she knew what she had to do.
Tumblr media
See to it that a trip though the booth was bought for her mother, two sisters, and three aunts, because there is nothing more important in Filipino culture than family.
Tumblr media
Madame Shu Nu's New You Drive-Throughs, however, are not just for the young folks, just ask Billy McKeith and his BAE of 23 years Jane.
Tumblr media
Or as she is known now, McKeith Jie Bae.

Review: The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown
Quick review for a quick read. I’m backtracking a little bit because I originally read this Tor Nightfire novella back in June of 2023. I adored this short, sci-fi horror thriller from the perspective of a Black woman trying to navigate her ship back to Earth with limited resources, a irritated crew, and a mysterious threat looming over them. Jacklyn Albright has plenty of secrets as she’s the –…
