I genuinely loved this film.
The economy is shit, and going to the cinema is my one last luxury in life, so the fact that this was good made me so, so happy.
Kenneth Branagh always makes me feel slightly uneasy because of how well he played Mr. Neville/Devil in Rabbit Proof Fence, but I think it’s safe to say he has successfully re-written himself in my mind as Poirot ✨
I am still relatively new to watching films for Directors, and it’s wild looking through his work, realising how much I’ve actually seen, and how much I’ve missed.
His 2015 Cinderella helped piece my heart back together at 21, along with Sonam Kapoor’s (Shashanka Ghosh’s) Khoobsurat, but that’s a whole other thing.
Anyway, if you can, go watch - it’s exactly what you want it to be.
Or, wait until it’s on streaming and watch with friends because it’s goood. It’s exactly what you want it to be.

Death was only the beginning.
With the release of the teaser trailer for A Haunting in Venice, I made this alternative posters for fun.
I’m anticipating the great Hercule Poirot’s encounter with the supernatural!

A Haunting in Venice (2023)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
A Haunting in Venice has several sudden, dramatic strikes of lightning that create severe but brief strobe effects. These can be hard to predict. Several scenes are lit by flickering fire, which may cause a strobe effect in some shots. There are sudden flashbacks that are much brighter than the previous shot.
The camera spins for about 20 seconds at a high speed in one scene. A sequence of high anxiety involves a type of camera work that includes some shaking. There are scenes of peril at extreme heights.
Flashing Lights: 8/10. Motion Sickness: 5/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: Multiple people are suspected of having acted on suicidal ideation, with one case being true. One of the more disturbing real-life behaviors shown in The Sixth Sense is depicted briefly in this film.

For the ones who stayed
For the ones who left
And for all the ones who were lost.
I seriously recommend this movie.

The supernatural vibe is uncharacteristic of a Hercule Poirot story, imo. But it is a Halloween themed movie afterall. And so obvious, in retrospect, how the supernatural elements came to be.
