Much Ado About Nothing
One song that reminds me of the theme of deception in this story is the song "smooth operator" by Sade. In Much Ado About Nothing, the character, Don John, is perceived as a very deceptive character who harbors resentment towards his brother. He is also an instigator and easily manipulates stories, leading to misunderstanding and conflict. This song's vibe has something very cunning and smooth to it and the backstory is about a mysterious person who moves through life effortlessly which reminds me of Don John's character.

At first, it took me a while to find the picture that would perfectly represent both readings. But eventually decided on this one, as it encompassed the meaning of both.
When it comes to Plato's allegory, this image not only represents those chained in a cave but also the fact that said individuals lived their lives stuck between those limits (superficial and material world). The chains breaking symbolize the transition from ignorance to knowledge (leaving that materialistic world behind); the bright light in the sky surrounding the broken chains represent the ultimate truth and good these individuals ("us") are able to experience after being freed.
In the case of Roland Barthes' reflections, this image shows how challenging traditional views on authorship (breaking free from the norms) are needed to shape each individual's own understanding of truth and meaning. He believes that challenging the idea that the authors are the sole meaning-makers of text is crucial because writing is shaped by various cultural influences, as well as readers' opinions.

Choosing the song "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day can establish connections with Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" and Roland Barthes' "The Death of the Author." Making the connection with the allegory of the cave, in one part of the lyrics, when it mentions "I walk alone, I walk alone," it reflects the experience of one of the prisoners in the cave stepping out alone into the external light, seeking truth beyond the shadows. Similarly, when it says "my shadow's the only one that walks beside me, my shallow heart's the only thing that's beating," it can be seen as a parallel with the experience of the prisoners confined in the cave, whose only companionship are the shadows cast by objects in front of the fire. This sense of disillusionment and isolation expressed in the lyrics also mirrors the idea of being trapped in a world of illusions, as Plato's allegory suggests. In the context of Barthes' text "The Death of the Author," the song highlights the independence of interpretation by allowing listeners to create their own meaning, beyond Green Day's original intentions as authors. This enhances the listener's experience by creating their own personal significance and connection with the work.

Having just looked up the submission cost to the journal Ecology, I will be printing out 100 copies of my manuscript and handing it out on street corners instead of traditionally publishing. Much more cost effective and more people will read it that way.

I chose this gif because I believe it is a good example of something unexpected. Throughout the first Act of Romeo and Juliet we see a lot of unexpected things.  First off being that Juliet’s mother tells her she is going to be getting married soon, which catches Juliet off guard to say the least. Juliet understands her responsibilities, and even as much as she probably doesn't want to be married, especially as a 13 year old girl, she tells her mother yes. Another unexpected scene throughout Act 1 is when Romeo finds Juliet at the party, and is captivated by her beauty. It catches both Romeo, and the viewers off guard as well. As well as when Benvolio convinces Romeo to initially crash the party, yet again another event that was unexpected from all. In conclusion this gif of a father throwing his son into a body of water while they look like they were peacefully fishing is incredibly unexpected, as are many of the scenes throughout Act 1 in Romeo  and Juliet.
Thank you, cool example!

Theme: "Deconstructing the Objectification of Women's Bodies: Exploring the Harmful Impacts of Consumption from a Radical Feminist Lens"
Women's bodies have been consumed and objectified in various forms throughout history, from the use of women's bodies in advertising to the depiction of female bodies in art. This consumption has been normalized in our society and is often seen as harmless or even empowering. However, from a radical feminist perspective, the consumption of women's bodies perpetuates harmful stereotypes and reinforces gender inequality. For our first magazine we ask for essays, articles, reviews, and creative pieces that explore the ways in which women's bodies are consumed, the harm it causes, and why it's crucial to challenge and resist this phenomenon from a radical feminist perspective.
