Casting ideas for Sandman (If adapted for live action TV or movie)

Morpheus - This one is probably the hardest to consider.

Doug Jones is my first choice. He’s extremely thin. He has large, expressive eyes and he has no qualms about being under heavy makeup so you wouldn’t have to change Morpheus’ look. You could keep the black eyes, the bone-white skin, etc.

If you’re not familiar with him, he was The Creature in The Shape of Water, the zombie in Hocus Pocus, Abe Sapien in the original two Hellboy movies (as well as the chamberlin and Angel of Death in Hellboy 2), the Faun and Pale man in Pan’s Labyrinth, and many other under-rated and gorgeously portrayed characters.

For more recognizable names there are the obvious choices of Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch but I think Doug Jones is the better choice.

Luke Goss might also be a good choice. He was prince Nuada in Hellboy 2 and Frankenstein’s monster in a 2004 mini-series of Frankenstein (and probably the most faithful to the book I have ever seen).

Desire - Possibly Tilda Swinton but though she has an androgynous look, her voice is distinctly feminine and she’s a bit older than what some might want for Desire. Gillian Anderson was brilliant in American Gods so I’d like to see her in another role where she could have fun costumes. Lady Gaga popped into my head just now. I think she could do it. She’s not that androgynous but with the right costume and makeup it might work.

Despair - Jane Horrocks (See her Mrs. Plum in Corpse Bride). Obviously there would have to be heavy makeup or CG. I know this character should have a horrible voice but I can’t think of any truly awful deep or grating voices, it would definitely require some distortion. This is a tough one.

Destiny - James Earl Jones, possibly Idris Elba. Someone with a good resonating voice that can sound deathly serious and matter-of-fact. I think a good Destiny needs this. Idris is my favorite choice.

Death - Ksenia Solo (Kenzi in Lost Girl)

Delirium - Margot Robbie

Destruction - Chris Hemsworth

Cain - Mark Hamill. possibly Jonathan Frakes. Perhaps Tom Cavanagh. Marc Warren could do it. Perhaps Peter Capaldi? He can pull off creepy.

Abel - Patton Oswalt or Sean Astin. Maybe Josh Gad. Kevin Smith. Absolutely Kevin Smith.

Gregory and Goldie - Voiced by Frank Welker, of course. (He does most of the cute animals in cartoons since the 60s.)

The Corinthian - Curtis Arnott (Alucard from Hellsing Abridged.) Perhaps Malcolm Ray (Nostalgia Critic), or Marc Warren, or Michael Sheen.

Lucien - Anthony Head. If Anthony Head is too old than perhaps Tom Cavanagh. Maybe Ariyon Bakare. Ariyon doesn’t look the part based on the comic art but I think he could do it. James D'Arcy would make a perfect Lucien.

Mervyn Pumpkinhead - Richard Dreyfuss (Note the voice he used for the Centipede in James and the Giant Peach). Perhaps Brian Henson (Note the voice he used for Hoggle in Labyrinth). The physical body could be done by Doug Jones.

Fashion Thing - Perhaps Lady Gaga?

Roderick Burgess (And possibly aged Alexander Burgess) - David Bradley

Younger Alexander Burgess - David Tennant (Imagine him as 1970s Alexander)

Hob - Clark Gregg (probably not the right accent but I like him), maybe Cary Elwes

Lucifer - Tom Ellis (There are no great Bowie impersonators and maybe no one should try)

Nada - Possibly Cree Summer or Bettina Nicole Bush or Salli Richardson or Lesley-Ann Brandt. But my favorite choice is Alison Sealy Smith.

Etrigan The Demon - Patrick Seitz or Ray Chase. (Voice)

Constantine - Matt Ryan

The Hecatae - Bette Midler (Crone), Sarah Jessica Parker (Maiden) and Kathy Najimy (Mother) (Hocus Pcous reunion. One can dream…) There’s also the cast used for the Disney World Halloween Spooktacular stage show. They’re a decent version of the Sanderson sisters, who I think could easily fit the Hecatae / Kindly Ones.

Mad Hette - Catherine O’hara. She can do a good witchy / mad woman voice.

Doctor Destiny / John Dee - Denis O'Hare (American Horror Story).

Note: I might revise this cast idea list later.

Paul Pogba wants to stay at Manchester United despite interest from Real Madrid. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, as per @utdreport, who revealed that Pogba is ready to sign a new deal with the Red Devils. The Italian transfer expert toldThe United Stand he understands that the 69-cap France international is happy to stay at Old Trafford and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that they can agree terms. Pogba’s current contract will run out in 2021 but Man United have the option to extend the agreement by a further year. Real Madrid and Juventus have been monitoring the situation for some time, although it looks like they will come away disappointed. Ed Woodward is set to hold talks with his representative Mino Raiola to reach a resolution. It’s no secret that the super-agent has a strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy, although any lingering issues seem to have subsided for the time being at least. Pogba recovered from surgery in time for the Premier League restart, which has allowed him to form a formidable partnership with Bruno Fernandes in United’s midfield. It is worth pointing out that Pogba has actually registered a higher pass success percentage than the former Sporting Lisbon man. Unsurprisingly, many United fans are delighted by Romano’s update on the “magician” via social media, with one supporter having “tears in my eyes” while another added that the Frenchman is “better than Bruno”. Fernandes has been in electric form since arriving in January but Pogba’s trophy cabinet more than speaks for itself, as he was part of the France side that famously won the 2018 World Cup. Whichever side of the debate you’re on, it’s fair to say that Solskjaer has two world-class midfielders at his disposal. It is now up to the club legend to get the best out of the midfield maestros as United seek to challenge for silverware next season. Rugby: Manu Samoa pull away to beat NZ Heartland XV

A New Zealand Heartland XV made up of players from ten rural provincal unions gave a full account of themselves in the 36-19 loss to Manu Samoa at Eden Park on Saturday.

As their nation’s full Rugby World Cup squad, Samoa wanted a comprehensive performance and they scored after four minutes, as the weight of possession and numbers saw debuting prop Michael Ala’alatoa go over for the first of his two tries.

However, the Heartland XV hit back as their veteran Wanganui fullback Craig Clare hit South Canterbury’s Willie Wright with a good pass and the zippy halfback broke through to dash off to the posts, with Buller first-five James Lash converting.

Playing under penalty advantage, Samoa spread the ball away from New Zealand’s drifting defence for winger Ahsee Tuala to dive in at the corner.

Samoa broke out again after turning over a Heartland scrum as Tim Nanai-Williams set up Tuala to go in for his double.

The Coasters got together for Heartland’s reply try as Lash held up his pass after a 5m scrum and maul, before hitting West Coast second-five Sione Holani in the gap for a converted try to close the margin to 15-14 at the break.

Samoa drove from an attacking lineout to put their lock Kane Leaupepe over from the back of the maul, with Tusi Pisi taking over the goal kicking to put them eight points ahead.

It was provincial neighbours combining again for Heartland’s third try as Wanganui’s reserve halfback Lindsay Horrocks fired a cut-out pass to his second-five Peni Nabainivalu, who put Horowhenua-Kapiti winger Willie Paia’aua free down the tramlines to score for 22-19, with Lash hitting the posts from his sideline conversion.

Clare and Thames Valley winger Harry Lafiuanei dashed back to stop Samoa scoring off a grubber kick to the in-goal, but under pressure, the New Zealand team lost their North Otago lock Josh Clark to the sinbin for a professional foul, seeing the islanders drive again from the lineout for Ala’alatoa to get a double.

At 29-19 entering the final quarter, play became end-to-end stuff, as Wanganui’s import to Horowhenua Kapiti in Timoci Seruwalu came on to make a great cover tackle to force a turnover, while Clare tried an audacious chip kick and regather from his 22m, which he then kicked ahead again towards Samoa’s tryline.

However, Samoa turned on some razzle-dazzle of their own to run back out to halfway, and then a perfect cross kick was collected by Tuala, who could have got a hat trick but causally gave the ball to second-five Rey Lee-Lo to score on fulltime.

Heartland XV coach Mark Rutene said his players loved the experience of playing an international on the home ground of New Zealand rugby.

He pointed out that aside from the opening Mitre 10 Heartland Championship round and some preseason rep matches, the squad had basically come out of rural club rugby before the clash.

West Coast captain Troy Tauwhare had led the team in a proud haka before kickoff.

'Fair play', 'Outstanding': Some Sunderland fans enjoying turnaround of previously 'dreadful' star

Sunderland and Portsmouth played out a 1-1 draw in League One yesterday which helped neither side’s chances of automatic promotion. Sunderland are now six points behind Barnsley in second with two games remaining and an inferior goal difference. The Black Cats, will have to do battle in the play-offs.

In the end, Sunderland were unfortunate not to win the game but found Portsmouth goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray in fine form for Pompey.

Despite the disappointing end result, Sunderland fans remain in a fairly upbeat mood. Especially, it seems, toward Alim Ozturk.

The Turkish defender has recently found his way back into the first-team plans of Jack Ross and has not let his manager down.

The 26-year-old has played the last three league games and Sunderland fans have been impressed by his performances. He struggled after initially joining the club but is certainly developing something of a cult following among the Sunderland fans.

His form deserves it and he will hope he remains in the starting XI into the play-off picture.

It just wasn’t going to end that smoothly was it? Following Romelu Lukaku’s deadline day departure from Manchester United, many would surely have hoped that it marked the end of a drawn-out transfer saga. Instead, it may just be the beginning of bitter war between the two parties.

The Belgium international spoke about the nature of his exit this summer on NBA player Josh Hart’s LightHarted podcast, and it’s fair to say it certainly opened up a can of worms.

The 26-year-old suggested the Red Devils essentially pushed him out the door and didn’t “protect” him from the rumours that he could be on his way out of the club.

Indeed, Lukaku admitted that he was being made out as a scapegoat at Old Trafford, and revealed both Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez face similar troubles.

After hearing the Belgian’s damning comments, United fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the revelations.

Many supporters of the Manchester side slammed Lukaku for appearing to deflect the blame from his poor performances, and insisted he should simply “pipe down”.

Indeed, some fans even suggested the 26-year-old’s inability to understand the pressure of playing for a big club like United showed he doesn’t have the right “mentality” to play for a side that are always in the spotlight.

Morpheus - This one is probably the hardest to consider.

Doug Jones is my first choice. He’s extremely thin. He has large, expressive eyes and he has no qualms about being under heavy makeup so you wouldn’t have to change Morpheus’ look. You could keep the black eyes, the bone-white skin, etc.

If you’re not familiar with him, he was The Creature in The Shape of Water, the zombie in Hocus Pocus, Abe Sapien in the original two Hellboy movies (as well as the chamberlin and Angel of Death in Hellboy 2), the Faun and Pale man in Pan’s Labyrinth, and many other under-rated and gorgeously portrayed characters.

For more recognizable names there are the obvious choices of Tom Hiddleston or Benedict Cumberbatch but I think Doug Jones is the better choice.

Luke Goss might also be a good choice. He was prince Nuada in Hellboy 2 and Frankenstein’s monster in a 2004 mini-series of Frankenstein (and probably the most faithful to the book I have ever seen).

Desire - Possibly Tilda Swinton but though she has an androgynous look, her voice is distinctly feminine and she’s a bit older than what some might want for Desire. Gillian Anderson was brilliant in American Gods so I’d like to see her in another role where she could have fun costumes. Lady Gaga popped into my head just now. I think she could do it. She’s not that androgynous but with the right costume and makeup it might work.

Despair - Jane Horrocks (See her Mrs. Plum in Corpse Bride). Obviously there would have to be heavy makeup or CG. I know this character should have a horrible voice but I can’t think of any truly awful deep or grating voices, it would definitely require some distortion. This is a tough one.

Destiny - James Earl Jones, possibly Idris Elba. Someone with a good resonating voice that can sound deathly serious and matter-of-fact. I think a good Destiny needs this. Idris is my favorite choice.

Death - Ksenia Solo (Kenzi in Lost Girl)

Delirium - Margot Robbie

Destruction - Chris Hemsworth

Cain - Mark Hamill. possibly Jonathan Frakes. Perhaps Tom Cavanagh. Marc Warren could do it. Perhaps Peter Capaldi? He can pull off creepy.

Abel - Patton Oswalt or Sean Astin. Maybe Josh Gad. Kevin Smith. Absolutely Kevin Smith.

Gregory and Goldie - Voiced by Frank Welker, of course. (He does most of the cute animals in cartoons since the 60s.)

The Corinthian - Curtis Arnott (Alucard from Hellsing Abridged.) Perhaps Malcolm Ray (Nostalgia Critic), or Marc Warren, or Michael Sheen.

Lucien - Anthony Head. If Anthony Head is too old than perhaps Tom Cavanagh. Maybe Ariyon Bakare. Ariyon doesn’t look the part based on the comic art but I think he could do it. James D'Arcy would make a perfect Lucien.

Mervyn Pumpkinhead - Richard Dreyfuss (Note the voice he used for the Centipede in James and the Giant Peach). Perhaps Brian Henson (Note the voice he used for Hoggle in Labyrinth). The physical body could be done by Doug Jones.

Fashion Thing - Perhaps Lady Gaga?

Roderick Burgess (And possibly aged Alexander Burgess) - David Bradley

Younger Alexander Burgess - David Tennant (Imagine him as 1970s Alexander)

Hob - Clark Gregg (probably not the right accent but I like him), maybe Cary Elwes

Lucifer - Tom Ellis (There are no great Bowie impersonators and maybe no one should try)

Nada - Possibly Cree Summer or Bettina Nicole Bush or Salli Richardson or Lesley-Ann Brandt. But my favorite choice is Alison Sealy Smith.

Etrigan The Demon - Patrick Seitz or Ray Chase. (Voice)

Constantine - Matt Ryan

The Hecatae - Bette Midler (Crone), Sarah Jessica Parker (Maiden) and Kathy Najimy (Mother) (Hocus Pcous reunion. One can dream…) There’s also the cast used for the Disney World Halloween Spooktacular stage show. They’re a decent version of the Sanderson sisters, who I think could easily fit the Hecatae / Kindly Ones.

Mad Hette - Catherine O’hara. She can do a good witchy / mad woman voice.

Doctor Destiny / John Dee - Denis O'Hare (American Horror Story).

Note: I might revise this cast idea list later.
