Darker, more intense and angsty than Game Theory and Fallen Angel, the Magpies stories show the effects of the hiatus on all concerned. When parts five to 8 are completed, the series will bring the Ford saga to a conclusion.

Hi Steph! I saw on your account recently a reblog about Frankenstein from National theatre’s YouTube - I just wanted to let you and your followers know (because your blog will reach way more people than mine!) that BOTH versions of the show are on YouTube already and if we assume they‘re only up for 7 days like the other NT ones, then Ben’s creature only has 2 days left and Jonny’s Lee Miller’s only has 3. The post I think said Jonny’s wasn’t due out until 7th - but that info isn’t correct!

I don’t know why but the fact that you’re French Canadian makes me weirdly happy 😆 probably because I always thought you were American and I like having my expectations of people changed 🤔 anyway, I actually came to say that the ‘i before e’ rule is no longer taught in British schools because there are MORE EXCEPTIONS to the rule than words that actually follow it 😂

Nope, Canadian all my life, Dad’s family is French and my full name is fully French, so yeah, the only thing not French about me is my language LOL LOL! <3 We were brought up in Northwestern Ontario in the biggest city in the middle of nowhere, sooooooo yeeeeeee very English LOL LOL.

And I haven’t been in school for almost 20 years (elementary, a decade longer), so yeah that’s interesting. I love grammar so I’m glad that that was taken out because there’s too many exceptions to the rule, so it never made sense to me and only served to confuse kids.

And British English is correct English LOL LOL. Canadian English is a bastardization of American and British English, but at least we spell colour and neighbour and doughnut correctly LOL. Québec French is a bastardization of Acadian and Parisian French, and Canadian English and is really ugly LOL. Sorry, fellow Québecois.

UGH and I’m sorry, I’m gonna rant because I’ve held this in so long.

My BIGGEST grammar pet peeve – and I see this in fics ALL THE TIME and it drives me bonkers – is an unnecessary apostrophe-ess in “it’s” and “let’s”. It killed me because we spent ONE ENTIRE COLLEGE LEVEL BUSINESS ENGLISH CLASS trying to get 20 year olds to understand the difference. I learned this shit in grade one, WHY THE HELL do 20-year-olds not understand?? Look guys, these are the super easiest ones:

let’s = contraction of “let us”, not possessive, never is. If a sentence makes sense when broken up as “let us”, then you can use this. ie. Let’s go to the store.

it’s = contraction of “it is”, NEVER EVER POSSESSIVE, and this is the ONLY way you use it’s. If you’re reading a sentence, and you can break it up to be “it is”, then you’re using it correctly. ie. It’s hot outside

lets = verb, never has an apostrophe. ie. That store lets you borrow a cart.

its = possessive pronoun, and NEVER HAS AN APOSTROPHE. ie. That cat drank its milk. Its tail swished in approval.

Sorry, this has been on my chest forever, and it drives me bonkers because my brain AUTOMATICALLY splits up these two words when I read fics, and it stutters if the sentence doesn’t make sense. So yeah, essentially, just read the sentence and if breaking it up doesn’t make sense, then you’re using the wrong version of the word. Same with ANY contraction, if you are reading a sentence, and you cannot break up a sentence into all of the base words, then you are using the words wrong. BAHHH.

Sorry, there’s my English lesson for the day. LOL.

This is why English is so difficult for ESL peeps. Too many tiny little rules like this. <3
