And WHO exactly is Sam Smith?

Opinions will no doubt be divided when it comes to answering that particular question, I'm sure, and not all favourable either. From my iconoclastic viewpoint, as ever, I would say he, yes, HE has mastered the ability to infinitely crawl up his own backside and out again more successfully than anything Houdini could have achieved as an escapologist.

Why? Because Sam Smith in reality is nothing more than an illusion. A manufactured figure who would be an absolute nothing if it wasn't for the spotlight of television and a pawn in that particular game that sucks up to HIS own vanity. You see, years ago in order to become a 'celebrity' you'd have had to work your way up from the bottom of the ladder, touring the clubs night after night, building your following, and then getting noticed if you were lucky enough and proved your talent. Even though that still didn't guarantee any promise of real success to superstar level.

If you've never heard of a rock band called 'Dumpy's Rusty Nuts' then count this as your introduction to them. Not that I'm in any way an expert fan or anything, I'm simply aware of their existence and the fact they've been around a very long time and are hugely, and I mean hugely successful. They've built their fanbase from sheer hard work, trudging up and down motorways to venue after venue, night after night, and relentlessly pursuing their passion for playing to audiences that range from hundreds into stadium numbers supporting much bigger artists, and can quite rightly qualify for the title 'legendary'.

Sam Smith, on the other hand, is nothing more than a manufactured puppet of an industry that views him as a mere product of its own making, and to be honest, I feel sorry for HIM as much as I do for those who have bought into HIS brand of egotistical bullshit. Like so many acts before HIM, he's become a creation who serves a purpose until such time as HIS bubble bursts and the next potential to extensively hype turns up. Like the majority before him though, he's so far up HIS own rear end with ego that he believes HE is something HE isn't, and somehow God's gift to a music industry that quite frankly couldn't give a damn as long as they're making money out of HIM while it lasts, and so, consequently the entire entertainment industry will mollycoddle him, blow constant smoke up HIS backside by sycophantly telling HIM how wonderful HE is because they know HE'LL buy into their grovelling, doff capping, yes sir, no sir, three bags full, sir, have whatever you want that makes you happy, further ego-inflating bullshit as everything about him screams ME, ME, look at ME, and how wonderful 'I' believe 'I' AM!

Just how people don't see through this bullshit amazes me. Have we really, honestly, and actually turned into a nation of such sheeple that we've come to the stage where we simply and readily buy into such bullshit with eyes wide closed?

How is it that we are so, so easily led as to not think that everyone in the background of this Sam Smith phenomenon isn't in it for what they can get out of it? The manager who takes a cut, the agent, the record label, the publicist, the costume designer, the make-up artist, the accountant, the tour manager, the personal assistant etc, etc - and all rubbing their hands from the smell of potential lucre as long as HE remains flavour of the month.

Now, I'm not against anyone earning an honest living, and neither am I suggesting there is anything dishonest within the Sam Smith circle of business interests, I simply find this entire sycophantic industry that relies on having to manufacture talent in order to sustain itself quite false and putrifying, and yes, while I concede to the fact that Dumpy's Rusty Nuts will also have their outgoings in terms of fees to management and an agent, and probably others along the way of their career they are more celebrity than Sam Smith can ever hope to be without the ego and publicity machine that has hyped HIM to faux-stardom, and in some circles at least, will live to achieve more in their forty plus year career than HE can ever hope for.

USAF base suffered mysterious invasions of drone swarms for weeks

Swarms of drones attacked Langley Air Base in Virginia, triggering assets even from NASA to investigate.

It was reported this week that Langley Air Base, located in southeastern Virginia in Chesapeake Bay, was "invaded" for weeks by mysterious drones, leading to a comprehensive investigation by the U.S. military.

According to the TWZ website, at Langley Air Base, drone swarms were seen in varying numbers, sizes and formations, indicating the presence of different types of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

“Last December, Langley Air Base in Virginia became the center of an intriguing security puzzle by going through weeks of unexplained drone activities,” U.S. Air Force officials said, saying the drones were first spotted on December 6, 2023. The incident aroused not only curiosity, but also concern about the safety and protection of the airspace, an official source reported to the TWZ website.

Even if the drones were not aggressive, their appearance in restricted airspace could compromise the safety of the flight. As the TWZ notes, USAF's main concern is not an imminent attack, but the possibility of security risks, such as potential surveillance or defense capability testing.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was promptly notified, highlighting the seriousness with which the military treated these violations.

"None of the incursions seemed to present hostile intentions, but anything that flies in our restricted airspace can pose a threat to flight safety," emphasized the spokesman.

Efforts to address drone activities involved a collaborative approach, involving local authorities and other federal agencies to ensure the safety of personnel, facilities and critical assets in Langley. However, the details regarding the specific measures taken or the impact of drone activities on basic operations remain undisclosed, a reflection of the discreet nature of military operational security.

NASA's WB-57 aircraft was used to monitor the strange activity of drones on the base.

The reaction included sending specialized resources, such as NASA's WB-57F high-altitude research aircraft, emphasizing the importance of having tools to monitor or respond to drone activities.

Observers did not detect the presence of drones, but certainly took note of the abrupt escalation of nearby military operations.

Located in southeastern Virginia, Langley Air Base is officially part of the Langley-Eustis Joint Base, which also includes U.S. Army Fort Eustis. The base hosts F-22 Raptor stealth fighters, playing a crucial role in supporting NORAD and NORTHCOM missions to safeguard the U.S. homeland, including the defense of the country's capital, Washington, DC.

The drone swarms at Langley Air Base present a complex challenge to national security, combining technological innovation with the old game of espionage. As drones become increasingly sophisticated and accessible, their potential use in surveillance or as a tool in more malicious ventures cannot be ignored.

In recent times, there have been numerous cases of unidentified drones invading U.S. military bases, critical infrastructure and even nuclear power plants. For example, U.S. warships in the Pacific have encountered swarms of drones several times between 2016 and 2021.

So far, no country has taken responsibility for these drone activities. However, last year, there was an incident in which a Chinese spy balloon was spotted floating over the United States, leading to allegations of Chinese espionage against the US.

Black History Month: African American history you probably weren't taught in school

Katherine Johnson was a mathematician for NASA whose work was critical to sending astronauts into orbit and landing a man on the moon.

Katherine Johnson was born in Sulphur Springs, West Virginia in 1918 and excelled in mathematics from a young age. After skipping several grades throughout primary school, Johnson attended West Virginia University, and was handpicked as one of three Black students — and the only Black woman — to attend WVU's graduate program.

In 1952 she began working for the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) which slowly transitioned into the program we know today as NASA. There, she worked on an investigation of a plane crash and analyzed date from flight tests.

When the Soviet Union launched the satellite Sputnik in 1957, Johnson transitioned into mathematics for space travel and became a part of the Space Task Force, which was the first official move into space exploration. Johnson co-authored a report laying out equations needed for orbital space flight and became the first woman credited as a research author for the team.

Johnson's orbital calculations became seminal, and she conducted, by hand, one of the final tests before successfully sending John Glenn into space. Following that success, Johnson's calculations were used to send a man to the moon, marking a historic moment in US space flight.

In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom to honor her contributions, and she was the subject of the 2016 movie "Hidden Figures," which dramatized her work at the space agency.

SAINTS DECEMBER 01 St. Edmund Campion. Edmund was born in London, the son of a bookseller. He was raised a Catholic, given a scholarship to St. John's College, Oxford, when fifteen, and became a fellow when only seventeen. His brilliance attracted the attention of such leading personages as the Earl of Leicester, Robert Cecil, and even Queen Elizabeth. He took the Oath of Supremacy acknowledging Elizabeth head of the church in England and became an Anglican deacon in 1564. Doubts about Protestantism increasingly beset him, and in 1569 he went to Ireland where further study convinced him he had been in error, and he returned to Catholicism. Forced to flee the persecution unleashed on Catholics by the excommunication of Elizabeth by Pope Pius V, he went to Douai, France, where he studied theology, joined the Jesuits, and then went to Brno, Bohemia, the following year for his novitiate. He taught at the college of Prague and in 1578 was ordained there. He and Father Robert Persons were the first Jesuits chosen for the English mission and were sent to England in 1580. His activities among the Catholics, the distribution of his rations at the University Church in Oxford, and the premature publication of his famous Brag (which he had written to present his case if he was captured) made him the object of one of the most intensive manhunts in English history. He was betrayed at Lyford, near Oxford, imprisoned in the Tower of London, and when he refused to apostatize when offered rich inducements to do so, was tortured and then hanged, drawn, and quartered at Tyburn on December 1 on the technical charge of treason, but in reality because of his priesthood. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1970 as one of the forty English and Welsh Martyrs.

Bl. Alexander Briant, 1581 A.D. Missionary and martyr, one of the English priests slain in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Alexander was born in Somerset, England, circa 1556 , and entered Oxford University at a young age. He was called "the beautiful Oxford youth" because of his handsome appearance and the radiance of his holiness. Alexander converted to Catholicism at Oxford and met Richard Holtby, following Holtby to the English seminary college at Reims, France. He was ordained a priest there on March 29, 1578. Returning to England, Alexander worked in Somerset and was caught up in a search by British authorities in April 1581. Taken to the Tower of London, he was subjected to inhuman tortures but did not reveal the names of other priests. He also wrote to the Jesuit Fathers, asking permission to join. He was accepted. In November 1581, he was condemned to death by an English court. Again Alexander suffered hideous tortures and died on December 1, 1581, at the age of twenty-five.

Bl. John Beche, 1539 A.D Martyr of England and a friend of St. John Fisher and St. Thomas More. John was abbot of Coichester Abbey. Benedictine, he received a doctorate from Oxford in 1515. He took the Oath of Supremacy in 1534, but then saw his own abbey being plundered. The deaths of Sts. John Fisher and Thomas More horrified him as well. When he refuted King Henry VIII’s right to suppress the English monasteries, he was arrested for treason and hanged, drawn, and quartered at Colchester. John was beatified in 1895.

Bl. Richard Langley, 1586 A.D. English martyr. A member of the gentry, he was born at Grimthorpe, where he had extensive estates, as he did in Riding. He was arrested for giving shelter to Catholic priests and hanged, drawn, and quartered at York on December 1. He was beatified in 1929.

getting through the unpleasantness with the help of john leonard's writings on satanic therapists and others

big day tomorrow,and unfortunately it's not going to disneyland...though i don't think i'd want to like i did as a kid...

s and i must venture out during this heat wave in our black-interiored car with lackadaisical a/c to a germy hospital with no masked people,sick or otherwise. i feel petty complaining about the heat since so many are suffering that,but i'm burning mad about no masks in hospitals. she needs a long overdue medical procedure. i keep a close eye on the swirling world of sars-covid variants,as both of our immune systems are shall we say,not quite robust but also wonky in the sense of attacking ourselves. both of us have hashimoto's/autoimmune thryoid as well as other assorted fun chronic things.

in the past,i stayed in the car for the several hours of waiting,but that is not an option in this heat. and there's no covid-safe place to wait,so...

on the cheerier side,as scant as it is,i bought myself a copy of a favorite book that i like to reread. it is called 'when the kissing had to stop: cult studs,khmer newts,langley spooks,techno-geeks,video drones,author gods,serial killers,vampire media,alien sperm-suckers,satanic therapists, and those of us who hold a left-wing grudge in the post toasties new world hip-hop' by one of my favorite book reviewers,john leonard. it's a high-adrenaline read which is the best chance of getting through the waiting without having a meltdown,autistic or climate-related.

Language, Gen X, LGBTPQRS - whatever!

Having already lived through 'ist' and 'ism' being tagged to almost everything by the millennials, my awareness of just how much our language has become diluted - When familiar terms misappropriated so as to become a catch-all, rather than being specific to origin became luminously apparent. This degeneration of a generation appears to have continued as if hereditary, with terms such as 'hatred' and 'hate speech' now having the broader translation of disagreeing by means of simply feeling offended, which, in itself, can mean all things to all people, as if, somehow, feeling offended is mandatory.

The fact that we were all born with free will and the ability to make choices seems to have been conveniently bypassed in favour of feelings towards something, or someone, and plain common sense that we would normally apply in such circumstances is bordering on non-existent nowadays. If I happen to strongly disagree with a female's perspective on something for example, then another catch-all term comes into play - 'misogyny,' and I'm somehow prejudiced against women. Utter bollocks!

I've also noticed quite starkly how nowadays it's become almost de rigueur for people to take it upon themselves to be offended on behalf of another, without realising just how patronising that can be in practice, with white, middle-class, young people engaging in a BLM march and it becomes all about them, and how they feel, when bizarrely they outnumber those who are black, as just one example. The overbearing sense of entitlement by Gen X in particular, from one point of view could be argued that it reflects a sense of freedom of expression and confidence in belief. Although conversely, there is also the perspective of this being more of an underlying insecurity in an increasingly less secure world Notice how terms such as 'crisis' and 'emergency' have become popularised so as to yet again be attributed to anything where 'situation,' or 'challenge' would otherwise suffice.

You see, going back a generation, or three, the pre-millennials were, by and large, brought up to be more robust, resilient, and stoic because pre- World War two it was almost embedded into the bloodline that nothing was handed down on a plate, there was no bank of mum and dad, parents were parents - and not 'friends' to their children: and nothing in life came easy. Now, while I'm no advocate for war, I cannot help but think that maybe another widescale war would hit the reset button. Because as things stand right now, if there was a war Gen X would be lining up to buy adult nappies off the shelves, so to speak.

It's become a very selfish world, I've noticed. A world of self-entitled, me-me's. None potentially worse than that faction of the LGBTPQR whatever movement: and more particularly the 'T' element. Now, to set out my stall from the get-go, I have absolutely nothing against trans people per se, for several years I had around 180 trams (MtF) friends who were regular visitors to my home and would come and stay for days at a time. On occasion, I've administered their hormone injections when asked and offered advice when relevant questions that would further enable and empower their journey forward were put to me.

To all intents and purposes, these were chics with dicks, and despite them all having received breast implants they were always very vocal as to still being male through bone density, pelvic shape, and muscular strength. Yet, see them in the street and you would absolutely believe that they were female in every sense. So, it came as no surprise that their comments towards what we see as Gen X, 'faux' trans, scruffy appearance wannabees, with facial growth while wearing a dress kind of gender centaurs, were less than favourable in content. Do people have the right to dress as they choose? Absolutely! It's arguably just their seemingly visual indolence that sets them apart from the 'real' trans people. So, if anyone chooses to dress like a female, good on them, just at the very least put some bloody effort into it because, generally speaking, women, for the most part, take pride in their appearance, wash their hair regularly, and don't go out looking like a WTF!

This, and other factors when it comes to Gen X heavily suggest a general malaise towards life where it's believed through learned helplessness, that self-entitlement is the magical key that opens the door to nearly everything, and in its naivety of such belief, the Gen x trans faction has created a degree of toxicity towards itself. Why? In the main because their entire world appears to be all about 'me'. Now, this is where we get down to 'brass tacks' interesting because it reverts back to language and how it's been manipulated to whatever collective narrative suits at that time, and it it doesn't fit people will soon find a way to shoehorn it in. So, people choose to 'identify' as …………

The keyword here is 'identity,' and identity is something we assume based on, for the most part anyway, the immediate environmental influences that we accept as most resonating with us as we grow through the various stages of our lives. So, as a for instance, when I was a child I clearly remember playing various roles as a doctor, fireman, soldier, and cowboy because those were the roles I identified with, largely due to television, and as I grew older my identities evolved again, and again, and again to where I am now as an older adult.
