Rare beauty Angela Lansbury died peacefully in her sleep at 96, 5 days shy of her birthday Oct 16th. 🙏🏽 Most famous for her starring role I’m Murder She Wrote staged in the Maine town of Cabot Cove which is based on the very popular, lovely Maine town of Perkins Cove. 🔦 Mendocino, in Northern California, was the real location used for episodes based in Cabot Cove, other than the Universal Lot. This explains the numerous times you can see palm trees even though it was supposed to be in Maine. 🔍 Around 1940 she gained a job singing by claiming to be 19 when she was 16, for $60 a week. 2 years later her mom and her obtained Christmas jobs at the Bullocks Wilshire department store in Los Angeles; mom was sacked for incompetence, leaving the family to subsist on Lansbury's wages of $28 a week! 2 years after that she was signed to a seven-year contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, earning $500 a week, with Variety magazine in August 1943 claiming Lansbury to have gone from unknown to movie star in just four days 🤣 ⌨️ As of 2009, she held the record for the most unsuccessful Emmy nominations by a performer (18). Also in 2009, I took the name @trangelalansbury as my drag name 🎖 In 2014, Lansbury was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. 🎭 #AngelaLansbury #Detective #DameAngelaBrigidLansbury #JessicaFletcher #MrsPotts #BeautyAndTheBeast #TaleAsOldAsTime #MeatPies #MurderSheWrote #MurderByDeath #MurderSheWore #SweenyTodd #CabotCove #BedknobsAndBroomsticks #ALittleNightMusic #Mame #BlitheSpirit #Gaslight #ThePictureOfDorianGray #TheManchurianCandidate #Whodunit #Anastasia #DeathOnTheNile #NationalVelvet #SalomeOtterbourne ❤️🔥 #allaprima #allaprimapainting #allaprimaportrait #igot5onIt #timelapseportrait 🕵🏼♀️ @murder_she_wore @murdershewrotememes @foreverangelalansbury @angela_lansbury ❤️🩹 https://www.instagram.com/p/CjmHAp8rvQG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Elvis Presley e Jessica Fletcher: la parentela impossibile
Una mamma troppo giovane
--

#FlashbackFriday - Murder, She Wrote: Aloha Betrayed by Jessica Fletcher and Donald Bain #Review / #Giveaway
On Flashback Fridays I will share with you
the books I was not able to review
when they were first released that have been screaming at me
from my To-Be-Read bookshelf.
While I was reorganizing my bookshelves recently I found this book in a box that hadn't made it to the shelves when we moved. I needed a Hawaii book for the Literary Escapes Challenge so I redipped my toes last week back into the long-running Murder, She Wrote Series. I may be reading more now that I realize each book can truly be read on its own, even for a "read series in order" stickler like me.

Jessica Fletcher finds herself in a tropical paradise where “aloha” means both hello and goodbye. But sometimes, the goodbye is permanent…
Jessica is on the Hawaiian island of Maui, giving a lecture on community involvement in police investigations. Her co-lecturer is legendary retired detective Mike Kane, who shares his love of Hawaiian lore, legends, and culture with Jessica. But the talking stops when the body of a colleague is found at the rocky foot of a cliff.
Mala Kapule, a botanist and popular professor at Maui College, was known for her activism and efforts on behalf of the volcanic crater Haleakala. Plans to place the world’s largest solar telescope there split the locals, with Mala arguing fiercely to preserve the delicate ecology of the area.
Now it’s up to Jessica and Mike to uncover who was driven to silence the scientist…and betray the spirit of aloha.
Dollycas's Thoughts
Jessica Fletcher leaves Cabot Cove and lands in the tropical paradise of Hawaii to co-host a lecture series about community members getting involved in police investigations. Something she is an expert at. Legendary retired Hawaiian detective Mike Kane is her co-host for the lecture series and they become fast friends as he shares his Hawaiian life, lore, and legends with her. She also meets a young professor, Mala Kapule, with ties back in Maine, but before they can spend much time together, the young woman is killed, found at the foot of a rocky cliff. Mala was an activist and her current project was to keep the "world’s largest solar telescope" from being built atop Haleakala. Her quest is to protect and preserve the delicate ecology of the entire area. The quest probably led to her death but Jessica and Mike need to follow every clue to uncover the truth. They also need to stay alive long enough to do that as the killer's quest is to get away with MURDER!
This book is a travelogue mixed with a mystery. I have wanted to travel to Hawaii forever and this book hit several of Maui's hot tourist activities giving me a little virtual vacay. Let me be clear, it can't replace actually going there in person. That item is still at the top of my bucket list. The descriptions definitely whetted my appetite for things to do and see. I want to witness the sunrises and sunsets and attend the luau and check out the volcanos myself.
The mystery in the story is a little light as the setting seemed to get even more time than the investigation. Because I was a fan of the television show it is so easy to imagine Jessica's antics and hear her voice when she speaks. Jessica and Mike follow the clues and get a little help from his old friends on the force. Even when in Hawaii she hops on a bike to follow a clue. Things did take a turn when she tried to enjoy a popular tourist attraction on her own. It turned into quite a harrowing event but it moved the investigation forward. I do love how Jessica is always up for almost anything and she isn't afraid to return to the scene of the crime several times as she tries to pull all the clues together. I really enjoyed the way Mike and Jessica worked together and the way he invited her to his family event. He really lives the Aloha spirit.
Murder She Wrote: Aloha Betrayed was a fun and entertaining story. Great characters and a captivating mystery all set in a tropical paradise. A nice little escape.

I have the tremendous fortune of having my portrait of Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher autographed by her and dedicated to me (Thanks to my friend John Flanagan Jr. who made it happened and to whom I’ll be eternally grateful) and it’s one of my most precious treasures. Today, a I was looking at it I felt a little closer to her. May she rest in peace. #angelalansbury #dameangelalansbury #jessicafletcher #murdershewrote #autograph #honored #AlejandroMogolloArt https://www.instagram.com/p/CjncQeiI7za/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Here’s one of the illustrations I provided a couple of years ago for a PowerPoint presentation called Voices of Ethiopia. This is my interpretation of Yodit (Judit), warrior queen of the Agaw people during the 10th century A.D., who founded the Zagwe Dynasty and reigned for 40 years.

Remembering on what would’ve been her 82nd birthday, mystery author Sue Grafton (Apr 24, 1940 - Dec 28, 2017), best known for her “alphabet series,” beginning with “‘A’ is for Alibi” which introduced her popular main character, private investigator Kinsey Millhone. The daughter of detective novelist C. W. Grafton, she said the strongest influence on her crime novels was author Ross Macdonald.
“I know there are people who believe you should forgive and forget. For the record, I'd like to say I'm a big fan of forgiveness as long as I'm given the opportunity to get even first.”

Susan Spann delivers another compelling mystery set in 16th century Japan with this sequel to her first book, “Claws of the Cat,” featuring Hiro Hattori, a master shinobi (Westerners refer to them as “ninja”), who is charged with protecting Portuguese Jesuit priest Father Mateo in the guise of a ronin translator.
In this installment, the unlikely duo are drawn into another murder case when Hiro receives a pre-dawn visit from Kazu, a brother shinobi working undercover at the shogunate. Hours earlier, someone stabbed the shogun’s cousin to death at the palace. The murder weapon? Kazu’s own dagger. While Kazu proclaims his innocence, Hiro has reason to doubt the young shinobi’s claims. Though Hiro would like nothing better than to steer clear of another investigation, the shogun, having heard of Hiro and Father Mateo’s success in solving the events of “Claws of the Cat,” summons the shinobi and foreign priest to find the killer. Delving into the case as more deaths occur, the pair uncover a plot to assassinate the shogun and overthrow the ruling clan and must take care not to lose their own lives in a power struggle while revealing the culprit.
As with Spann’s first novel, I found this book to be a great read, bridging the cultural gap between East and West, creating memorable characters, action, political intrigue, unexpected plot twists, and a fascinating exploration of feudal Japan woven into a fun mystery. Four stars.

Harry McGraw: Look, Mrs. Fletcher, why don't you take some advice? Why don't you devote that boundless energy of yours to needlepoint or a bridge club?
Jessica Fletcher: Eh, I tried that. It's precisely the reason why I wrote my first book: I was bored out of my mind.
