The Main Thing About King Magnifico (that I personally love)
Tumblr media
He was created as a character who has the option to make his own choices, but he makes the wrong ones. He is given multiple chances to allow himself to think something through and choose a better way to handle things, but he just doesn’t. Even Jennifer Lee said this about him in some interview I don’t really care to pull out but it’s somewhere.
This isn’t bashing on his character, because genuinely this is probably one of the main reasons of why I love this version of Magnifico if I had to say something about him. It’s very relatable and I can see myself making irrational decisions in situations I feel out of control. And that can apply to anyone, really. 🤷🏽‍♀️
Tumblr media
I think he let his arrogance get in the way of his ability to think things through. His foresight is short because he’s too caught up in the past. He’s pessimistic and thinks of the worst possible outcomes, so he unintentionally chooses the worst possible decisions that he thinks will help him. It’s really interesting seeing a character who stood on good graces fall and become the one thing he swore not to be. He was a good benevolent king, but turned to a source of dark power to gain back control he thought he’d lost.
It’s sad too, considering he actually meant well but let the whole ‘bright light’ thing get to him. But throughout the movie, every time something arises he has the option to choose how to work with things— and he doesn’t take advantage of that.
When he saw the light, he was willing to turn to the dark magical book even if no one had been harmed. Queen Amaya guided him away from that decision towards a lighter one, but when that failed he went back to his primary option and fell for his own arrogance.
Tumblr media
And you know what’s funny and (admittedly) so relatable here? He blames it on someone else. He blamed all of this on Asha, who hadn’t even interacted with him since the night of her interview. *Magnifico blames someone else for his own actions*. Her actions could’ve influenced his, but those are HIS actions. Magnifico wasn’t forced or threatened to do anything. He CHOSE to do those things. He chose the worst options when the best ones were right in front of him. He let his arrogance get in the way of that and look where he ended up. It’s important that people know that YOU are responsible for your own actions, UNLESS your free will and agency has been compromised by external factors that are beyond your control.
You could say that the forbidden book took ahold of Magnifico made him commit those actions itself, sure whatever. But does that mean that if Magnifico isn’t in control of himself, should Asha be to blame for his actions? Uh, no. 💀 Why are you blaming a 17 year old girl for a grown man’s actions? Ahem, not the point of this post but anyways. Those are still his actions that he willingly tethered to.
Tumblr media
But you know what? That’s totally relatable. I blame people for my own faults sometimes. Other people do that, too. We don’t end up in mirrors, but hey, we pay the price for it. People can be like that and it’s our own jobs to handle and control ourselves. No one is responsible for someone else’s emotions either, but we can at least give an ounce of care. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m working on that myself and have gotten better, but here I can connect to Magnifico like that. I’ll admit that con about myself. It really just means it makes him just as human.
Just wish he learned to get past his paranoia and realize that he doesn’t need to be in control all of the time. It would’ve been a real weight of his shoulders and some great character development. And sadly, the movie didn’t provide that. (also, this isn’t really proofread as I should be asleep rn)

Jennifer Lee on Frozen 3 and 4 in a podcast with Heart ♡︎
Tumblr media
Exactly a week ago Heart dropped a podcast with Jennifer Lee discussing Wish, Disney and Frozen 3 and 4.
From 4:04 onwards they start talking about the upcoming Frozen movies. Here's the link or if you can't have a listen, have a read of what she says in response to the questions:
youtube
Heart: “And talking about characters, I have to talk about Frozen because I absolutely love Frozen... But are they coming back and will Elsa find love?”
Jen: “Well they are coming back. Big Iger himself leaked it, that we got so much story that we're working on now, it looks like it's gonna be two films. Cause it's so big where they're going next. And Elsa's got a lot to do, so, and I can't give anything away to say what's gonna happen but Anna as well. And Anna's you know, I feel very connected to her, the ordinary hero, I don't have any magic. But I'm really excited. The amazing thing to me is always how these two sisters as we start looking at their journey, they keep surprising us and telling us, showing us what they're capable of. So I'm definitely excited about where we're going.”
Heart: “So does Elsa find love?”
Jen: “I can't give anything away, I can't tell you anything. All I want to say is that anyone who thinks they've heard anything they are not true, there's no leak, nothing has left our vaulted story room and the only leak is what Bob Iger leaked himself.”
So it's clear that Frozen 3 and 4 will be one story split into two movies like previous franchises have done. That's because the story is so big and they don't want to rush it or cram it into one. This logically speaking is a very clever and wise thing to do. Everyone knows no one can enjoy a good story when it's rushed and not long enough. Disney would be the first to make its own projects, have a part 1 and 2. Marvel has done it before with Avengers Infinity War and Endgame and Sony has done it with its Spider-verse films, and there's Dune and more. I mean we all thought Frozen 2's events were big imagine what else is in store for us!
Jennifer Lee has not confirmed or denied the possibility of Elsa getting a love interest. Really we could say it's because she doesn't want to break the Hearst of those who ship Elsa with someone and those who don't, meaning the answer on whether or not she does or not will be in the movie.
Lee also tells us that Elsa and Anna will have a lot to do this time round which means we're in for a ride as the sisters themselves! Like it's exciting because this next big story is literally unpredictable. Frozen could go anywhere. So much ground is left to be explored. We can guess but I'm almost certain our guesses will be nothing like what they've got planned!
As far as leaks go there have been no leaks on either Frozen 3 or 4. So anything anyone says here or on twitter is not true! With this next story being so big to be split into two they're keeping their story room strictly sealed.
Slowly, Jennifer is keeping us fed with little details as well as subtle ones. Teasing us well but not revealing much, not even who this new director is, yet.

Interesting words from Jennifer Lee:
Social media, of course, is already on the case; an avalanche of opinion that Elsa should be gay is gaining force. “That’s dangerous storytelling,” Lee says. “I hear it occasionally in the studio: ‘I don’t want a character who …’
“But it’s not what you want, it’s ‘Who is this character? What does she need?’ It’s hard because you never know what the landscape is like on social media. You can only know what it’s like in that story room.”
In the text she also talks about Elsa's inspiration, which is her own sister, Amy.
“We were kids who grew up with a mom who worked a lot, our parents were divorced. Amy was the responsible one, she had all the burdens. She was magical to me. Everything she did I thought was the greatest thing, though I was not quite so magical to her.”
Lee grins. She’s like a good Disney movie herself. She can switch seamlessly between emotions. “I was the wild child. I had all the creativity, like Anna.”
And some about Elsa's personality:
“Elsa trying to tell jokes is one of the funniest ideas.” Not a natural comedian then? “She tries, the poor thing. I think of her having to face the crowds at Arendelle, an introvert’s nightmare. Things like that are in my head all the time.”
There are other interesting phrases in the interview, but I found these to be the most interesting. I think it's worth a more complete analysis of this interview, @greatqueenanna.

Walt Disney: Is there anything you can tell us about Frozen 3?
Jennifer Lee: Only what we have already shared, which is the team is hard at work, we are deeply excited about the story we are shaping together, and it’s so epic it may not fit into just one film.
So, yeah, it's going to be a two-parter. Of course they are still at the beginning, but it's nice to know they want something big and that a single movie wouldn't be enough to contain it, which could be read as a sign that they are actually learning from their mistakes ... we will see.

Excerpts from Lee's recent interview in South China Morning Post
For Frozen 2, Buck and she had asked themselves one question: how does Elsa have her special powers? “And we were like, ‘Oh no! There’s more story!’
“We knew we were hooked immediately.” In other words, they couldn’t let it go.
“That’s exactly it. I remember spending time literally doing personality tests on Elsa and Anna again.”
Character analysis is one of her obsessions; she has subjected both sisters to Myers-Briggs assessments and amuses herself imagining them tackling unlikely tasks.
Tumblr media
It was during preparation work on Frozen 2 that Lee realised Anna was struggling, for the first time in her life, with fear. “She’s nervous because she has everything to lose,” she explains.
“In the first movie, she has everything to gain. But now, she has everything she’s always wanted and she feels the fragility of it.”
There’s certainly a darker flavour to Frozen 2, and “Into the Unknown”, in this viewer’s opinion, is even more of a blood-stirring Elsa clarion call than “Let It Go”.
And Olaf, the daffy snowman, is having an existential crisis. “Do you ever worry about the notion that nothing is permanent,” he asks. Loss is in the air, and there are some finely judged moments of grieving for parents and friends.
Tumblr media
Lee, however, is now making Frozen 3, about which – she gives a knowing nod to communications Amy – she’s not allowed to say anything.
About four hours after this interview, Bob Iger, speaking live from Hong Kong, will tell Good Morning America that there “might be a Frozen 4 in the works” and that Lee’s working on two stories simultaneously.
Social media, of course, is already on the case; an avalanche of opinion that Elsa should be gay is gaining force. “That’s dangerous storytelling,” Lee says. “I hear it occasionally in the studio: ‘I don’t want a character who …’ But it’s not what you want, it’s ‘Who is this character? What does she need?’ It’s hard because you never know what the landscape is like on social media. You can only know what it’s like in that story room.”
Tumblr media
The landscape she’s most enjoying at the moment, however, is Arendelle. “It’s an escape, it’s joyous – I’ll live here!”
“I look at all the stories in the films, and they can’t do the work for you – none of them can – but they’re all little lights in the dark.”
