McQueen’s first wife Neile Adams said in an interview with the National Post that “Going off with that girl saved his life”. After Manson Family were picked up for the murders, it turned out that there was a ‘Death List’ with McQueen’s name on it alongside Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and others. When you read about Charles Manson’s death tonight, please remember this face. The face of a 26 year old actress who was well on her way to stardom. A wife, sister and daughter who meant the world to those around her. A soon to be mother who couldn’t be more excited to meet her first child. Sharon Tate is one of the most beautiful women to ever grace the screen. But she was known to be kindhearted. Nothing but positive things have been said about her. Without this beautiful soul’s death, we would not have victim impact speeches. Her mother Doris Tate and her sisters Patti and Debra Tate have worked tirelessly over the years for victims rights. They used their suffering to help others. While you may think Charles Manson didn’t actually physically kill Sharon or the other Manson Family victims, he’s just as guilty. He manipulated his followers into killing these people. He knew full well that Sharon lived where she lived, showing up to her house before the murders. He knew Terry Melcher and Candice Bergen had moved but had his minions kill Sharon and her friends to scare him. He was racist and tried to pin these murders on blacks, planning to start a race war. Sharon and the rest of the victims did not deserve what happened to them but if any good came out of this evil situation, it was the work her mother and sisters have done for victims. I get sick when I see Charles Manson glorified by people, he’s seen as an icon and I’ve never quite understood it. Instead, I’ve chosen to admire the light that Sharon’s family brought out of tragedy for others affected by violent crimes. This light shines brighter today more than anything.
