AP News: Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto dies at 71

Ryuichi Sakamoto, a world-renowned Japanese musician and actor who composed for Hollywood hits such as “The Last Emperor” and “The Revenant,” has died. He was 71.

Japan’s recording company Avex said in a statement Sunday that Sakamoto died on March 28 while undergoing treatment for cancer.

Sorry for the watermark, but I just had to snip this absolutely adorable moment from "Into the Light" from the 2019 Tokaigi concert. To me, it almost looked like a private little dance between them; like Marina did a little curtesy, and then Pearl a little bow, like she was inviting Marina to dance . . . but then, given the conversation that followed the song, I think it was actually a little pantomime of how Marina tried to introduce herself to Pearl when they first met (when she didn't speak Inkling yet), and Pearl invited Marina to come with her so she could show Marina Inkling culture (despite not speaking Octarian herself)!

Well, regardless of what that adorable little bit was, things certainly did get kinda intimate for a moment there 🩵🩷

#this is a weird one but I was reading about a Japanese composer #and once again realized I couldn't even make an educated guess at their gender because #any trends in Japanese names are not intuitive or known to me #polls #languages #names #English names are of course much more globally inescapable #but I'm curious #also no one start about whether gendered names should exist or whether it's problematic #to acknowledge that names HAVE gender associations #or whether Ian should count as an 'English name' because its origin is Scottish #this ain't about any of that and you know it I'm making stern eye contact with y'all be regular

“There is a retrospective of Nakahira Takuma’s work at the MOMAT.”

Damn him. He knows her interest in photography. He also must know she just finished organizing their collection of Takuma’s amnesia dreams, which had of course disappeared during Morpheus’ absence and only recently reappeared in another, unrelated section (Toru Takemitsu’s orchestral compositions from the 1980s). Photographs are different, in dreams. Both more and less definite, relevant details brought to the fore whether or not they’re the subject, all the weight of nostalgia with none of the camera’s stark eye. Lucienne has spent hours comparing Takuma’s dreams to the Library’s copies of his post-recovery work, trying to identify the commonalities between them. If asked, she would say that her duties encompass reference and research, in addition to curation.

She has not seen a photograph in the Waking since—well, since humans invented the technology. Morpheus took her to an exhibition.
