Evening Kisses⎪ CB98
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Connor Bedard x fem!reader
Summary: After a long, hard practice, Connor comes home to his girlfriend and a classic makeout on the couch
Warnings: Swearing, kissing, Connor giving reader hickeys, technically underage drinking since it’s set in Chicago
Notes: This is my first fic ever, so please go easy on me. I am really proud of this, since so often I write something and think it is horrible, so this is a big step for me. Based off of one of the headcanons, so this one is "secretly loves to give you hickies but always makes sure they will be covered by clothes"

Connor unlocks the door with a sigh. Practice was rough and the weather has turned to shit. He toes off his shoes as the scent of onions and garlic meet his nose. A smile creeps onto his cloudy face when he thinks about the person behind the mouth-watering food. The one who sees Connor in a way nobody else can. The one who knows him.
He grins –fully this time– when he hears the music playing softly in the background. You can take a girl out of the country, but not the country out of the girl.
“Y/N, baby, I’m home”, he calls out, hanging his coat up and grabbing his phone.
“In the kitchen” she replies just as he walks in, “How was practice?”
“Rough. Harder than normal. Defense was put through the wringer, after that last game, and Richardson made us do sprints. We have got to get our shit together. A few guys were a little green by the end. Is there anything you need help with?”
“Just grab the wine out of the fridge. I had Janelle pick it up for me.Oh, grab the salad too. Greek tonight”
Connor heads around the island to the fridge, first stopping at the stove and wrapping his arms around his girlfriend. She relaxes into him, leaning her head back on his shoulder as his temple meets hers. They stand like that, eyes closed and relishing in the feeling of each other, finally. They sway gently to the beat of the music, a classic country love ballad that is one of Y/N's favourites. Y/N’s fingertips danced along his forearms before linking their fingers.
“I fucking hate long distance. Maybe I should try and transfer to school here”, Y/N says quietly, feeling tears well in her eyes.
Connor chokes up at her words, inhaling a shaky breath before he speaks. This topic is one that was discussed hundreds of times while Y/N was applying to school. They both knew it would be hard, but as they say, distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Hearing the tears in her voice, Connor swallows the lump in his throat and replies, “I know, baby, I know it sucks. I hate it too. I wish you were here more, and that I had more time to come up to you. But we can do this, let’s not take a moment we have together for granted.”
She turns in his arms, giving him a proper hug, holding each other close. He kisses her head, then kisses her lips tenderly. Y/N rests her head on his chest and feels the low thud of his heart. Connor drops a kiss to her shoulder and moves to get the wine and salad and the pasta is dished up. They discuss the happenings of the day over dinner, the momentary sadness over being apart evaporates. Connor shares animated stories of the Foligno kids and the better parts of practice. Both Connor and Y/N are wearing equally large smiles with love in their eyes. Their combined efforts have the dishes done, leftovers put away, and kitchen cleaned in record time.
Y/N pours a second glass of wine for the two of them and she settles on the couch, tucked into Connor’s side with his arm around her shoulders. He turns on the TV, Modern Family playing quietly as they sit in comfortable silence. Connor’s hand runs down her arm, landing low on her hip. Her hand sits in his thigh, thumb slowly rubbing back and forth. Y/N breathes deeply, inhaling the fresh scent of the soap from Connor’s after practice shower and his spicy cologne that lingers on his shirt, feeling drowsy and safe and warm. She tips her head up at him, meeting his eyes. He has a gentle smile on his face, bringing his hand to cup her cheek. Connor strokes her cheek with his thumb before tracing the line of her jaw, his eyes taking in her face, committing every detail to memory. The colour of her eyes, freckles on her cheeks, her full bottom lip.
His thumb catches on her lip, gently tugging it open before letting it go. He dips his head to hers, their lips meeting in a chaste kiss. Connor pulls back, but Y/N slides her hand around the back of his neck and brings their lips together again. This time deeper, more intense. She pushes up into a sitting position, her other hand finding Connor’s shoulder.
He grips her hip, holding her close and steady, other hand still on her cheek. He lets his tongue press against her lips, and she opens willingly. As they sink into the kiss, Connor grabs her behind her knee and pulls her to straddle his lap. The moment is all overlapping breaths and rushed inhales, searching hands and pure love. Both of Connor’s hands are on her hips now, slipping lower to grab her ass through her jeans. Y/N’s hand threads through his hair before tangling in his grown-out curls at the nape of his neck. Heavy breaths and light moans filter through the room when Connor kisses down Y/N’s neck, dragging his tongue over her jaw. His hands slide under her shirt, wandering over her bare back. He pulls her closer by a belt loop.
He peels her shirt off, and she returns the favour. Y/N tips her head back as Connor moves down her neck and along her collarbone, sliding her bra straps down. She lets out a breathy moan and moves to clutch his shoulders, she feels the firm muscles move and ripple under his warm skin. He pauses, nipping and sucking at her skin. The air is warm in the apartment, thick with tension. His hands sit firmly on her hips. Once Connor is satisfied with the mark he left, he moves a little lower, repeating the process again, and again.
It's a good thing it is winter, once Connor is done and moves to kiss her lips again. Y/N winces a little when his fingers brush the new bruises.
"I'm sorry baby." he whispers against her mouth.
She simply smiles and says back to him, "No, you're not, and neither am I. I love it just as much as you do."
This closeness, the intimacy of the moment is something the two cherish when they are apart. Connor pulls Y/N into his chest, holding her close. He draws shapes lightly along the bare expanse of her back, goosebumps rising in their wake. Her hands find hair, playing with the ends. Their foreheads rest against each other, eyes closed and arms wrapped around each other. Contentment and drowsiness replace hurried desire.
Connor stands, setting Y/N on her feet. Offering her his hand, he says, "Come on love, let's get to bed."

Clementine had just had a game last night against the Flyers, the Devils losing in overtime. She got on a separate flight then her team this morning having got permission to leave and meet the team tomorrow in Edmonton.
She walked through the airport holding her duffle bag in her hand, she walked out into the cold Chicago air and smiled when she saw Janelle Foligno in the car waiting for Clementine.
Clementine quickly hurried to the passenger side getting into the warm car, she smiled leaning over the console hugging Janelle, “Thank you for doing this!”
“Of course!” Janelle fondly smiled at her.
Clementine turned in her seat hearing the kids in the back, “Hi Kiddos!”
“Clemy!” The three kids all cheered at the same time having seen her a lot more since Connor had signed with the blackhawks.
“Are you guys excited!” Clementine smiled at the three kids while Janelle started driving through the airport chaos.
“Yeah!!” Hudson cheered the youngest son of Nick and Janelle.
“Me too!” Landon their middle child smiled excitedly.
“Yeah.” Miliana quickly nodded with a big smile always enjoying skating with her dad.
Clementine smiled, and for the remainder of the drive she listened to the three kids tell her everything that’s happen since she has seen them last.
Clementine brushed her long blonde hair out of its messy bun from the flight, she was wearing a pair of jeans and black sweater with a black trench coat, she played with her silver sea star necklace seeing the Blackhawks Arena as they drove into the parking garage.
“Ready?” Janelle asked the four with a big smile exicted for the surprise, she got four nods in return.
Clementine opened the back door helping Landon out as the other two got out on the other side, Landon shyly grabbed Clementine’s hand holding, She looked down with a smile letting him hold her hand.
They walked into the Arena towards the rink where they saw lots of different family and friends getting together for the Chicago Blackhawks family skate.
Clementine saw Connor’s back as he was talking to Nick she gently let go of Landon’s hand and snuck up behind her baby brother, she stood up on her toes wrapping her arms over his shoulders resting her chin on his shoulder.
Connor tensed just slightly before smelling the perfume his sister has always worn and relaxed smiling as he spun around seeing his big sister here, he pulled her into a hug burying his head in her neck, “Faye?” Connor was confused as he thought none of his family could make the family skate.
“Hi connie.” Clementine pressed a kiss to the side of his head, holding her baby brother tightly.
“What are you doing? i thought you couldn’t come?” Connor smiled at his big sister when they pulled away from the hug.
“I couldn’t but i got coach to agree to let me come.” Clementine smiled shrugging knowing she did everything to make sure Connor wouldn’t be alone his first family skate.
“Thank you.” Connor squeezed her hand, before he held her hand and started bringing her to all his teammates who he has already introduced her too but she let him drag her around always confused how he’s always so proud of her.
Connor dragged her to the booth that had skates for the family and friends to use and grabbed a pair for Clementine to wear, they headed to a bench around the rink sitting down putting their skates on.
Clementine was done first and watched her baby brother fondly feeling like it was yesterday their parents handed Connor to her and helped her hold him, Clementine ran a hand through his hair that was messy after he slipped his beanie off, “I’ve missed you.”
Connor looked up from finishing her skates relishing in the comfort from his sister and felt alot of the anxiety and worries go away with her near, “I missed you too Faye.” Connor smiled softly truthfully hating being away in Chicago and none of his family near by, he’s love playing hockey but some days hockey isn’t always enough.
Clementine slipped his black beanie on before standing up putting a hand down to her brother who quickly took it, “Come on it’s been awhile since we’ve skated for fun together.” Connor smiled.
Clementine threw an arm over his shoulder as they got onto the ice and started skating around, “Last time i was on this ice i scored a goal.” Clementine smirked remembering the winning goal she got against the Blackhawks last season.
Connor chuckled at his sister, “We play each other soon.” Connor was so excited to be on the same ice as his sister during a game never having done that before, truthfully he would always rather be on her team and hopefully one day he will be.
“I know I’m very excited.” Clementine grinned shaking his shoulder slightly making Connor laugh, “Mom, Dad and Mads are coming the 22nd right?” Clementine double checked with Connie, knowing they decided to do Christmas at Connor’s apartment this year as it’s easier to meet in Chicago this year than Vancouver.
“Mhm.” Connor nodded still skating together, “Your coming the 23rd right?”
“Yeah i’m taking a late flight after my game.” Clementine nodded having planned to leave right after her game so she had the most time with her family.
Connor nodded happily at the thought of just a few days with his family.
Landon had skated over to them and asked to play with Connor, Connor looked at Clementine not wanting to leave her but she just smiled and nodded.
Clementine watched as Connor skated after Landon just like she use to when he was a super young, she felt a bump to her leg and looked down seeing Hudson smiling up at her, she smiled back at him.
She saw Janelle, Nick and Miliana right behind him, “I think they are entertaining each other.” Clementine smiled watching Connor and Landon chase each other on the ice.
“He’s gonna sleep good tonight.” Nick fondly laughed, knowing how much his three kids love Connor and Clementine.
Clementine stayed skating with them for a good while before Connor and Landon joined them finally worn out, “Had fun?” Nick asked with an amused look.
“Did i have that much energy?” Connor looked at Clementine for an answer.
“Connor, you still do.” Clementine deadpan with a smile, Connor just shrugged knowing she wasn’t wrong.
A media person was skating around taking pictures and asked for a picture of Clementine and Connor, Clementine threw her arm around Connors shoulder pulling him to her as they smiled their identical smiles at the camera, the media perosn skated off saying a thank you.
Connor looked at Clementine with puppy eyes, Clementine fondly rolled her eyes knowing what he wants but nodded agreeing, Connor cheered always loving racing Clementine on the ice.
“Around the net and back?” Connor proposed, Clementine nodded, “3,2,1 Go.” The two started skating really fast to the other side of the rink, skating around all the people on the ice. Connor has always had to work really hard to be a fast skater and Clementine has always just had naturally ability of being very fast on the ice, she quickly got around the net first and skated back to other side of the rink easily beating Connor, she skidded to a stop turning around watching Connor reach the net.
“I’ll beat you one day.” Connor pouted slighty have never been able to beat his sister on the ice.
“Oh i have no doubts little brother.” Clementine fondly smiled throwing her arm over his shoulder again.
They skated around for a another hour before the Family skate was finally over and it was about 3:00 PM so Clementine and Connor had a good few hours to spend together before they had to go to sleep and Clementine was leaving early in the morning.
Clementine sat on the bench taking off her skates, Connor sat next to her taking hsi off as well, “Faye..”
Clementine looked at Connor who was looking at her with puppy eyes, “What do you want?” Clementine raised an eyebrow knowing Connor always uses his puppy dog eyes.
“Will you make mac and cheese?” Connor hopefully grinned, knowing Clementine doesn’t love cooking but she is really good at it.
“Do you have all the ingredients?” Clementine questioned sliding her black boots back on.
Connor rapidly nodded. Clementine fondly rolled her eyes, “Alright fine.” Connor smiled cheering looking very happy.
Clementine stood up with Connor walking out to the parking garage with the Foligno’s to get her bag from the car.
Clementine grabbed her bag from the car and turned around as the three kids all hugged her at the same time, “I’ll miss you guys.” Clementine smiled hugging all three of them at the same.
“We’ll miss you too Clemy!” Miliana sadly smiled, sad they can’t spend more time with her.
“I’ll see you guys soon don’t worry.” Clementine smiled at the three as she bent down to their height, she booped all their noses before getting up accepting the hug from Nick.
“Thank you for watching him.” Clementine muttered to Nick, having actually met Nick and his wife during her rookie year and had asked if they could keep an eye on her brother.
“Of course.” Nick fondly smiled knowing how much Clementine cares for her siblings and anyone can tell how much Connor looks up to his big sister and Nick had no doubt that sooner or later the two would be playing together on one team.
“Thank you.” Clementine whispered to Janelle, having been thankful how Janelle helped make this trip really easy for Clementine.
“Of course.” Janelle smiled before letting her go from the hug.
Clementine and Connor waved to the family before walking to Connor’s car, Clementine got into the passenger seat and Connor in the driver seat and Connor started driving the quick drive to his apartment.
Connor pulled into the parking garage of his apartment turning the car off, They walked into the apartment and headed into the elevator to Connor’s floor. Connor unlocked the door and let Clementine and him in.
“If you wanna take a shower first and then we can make dinner?” Connor suggested knowing Clementine always like showering after being on a airplane and she just loves taking warm showers.
Clementine nodded and headed to the guest room that she has stayed in many times already, She slipped off her clothes getting into the steaming hot shower feeling her body relax from the warmth.
Clementine finished her showered changing into a pair of devils sweatshirt and vancouver hoodie, she slipped on a pair of fuzzy socks and brushed out her long soaking wet hair before grabbing her phone and heading out of the room seeing Connor on his phone in comfy clothes as well.
Clementine plopped onto the couch next to Connor taking the blanket on the back of the couch she picked out for his apartment and layed it over her beginning to scroll on her phone for awhile.
Connor and Clementine were so focused on their phones for at least an hour until Connor’s stomach loudly rumbled, Clementine laughed, “Alright let’s get you some food.” She pulled him off the couch and heading to the kitchen.
Clementine was pleasantly surprised there was actually a few food ingredients in his fridge and started to pull out everything for mac and cheese, Connor pulled out a french bread loaf and started pulling things out for garlic bread.
Clementine and Connor both did their part of the meal and within thirty minutes they had both finished. They plated up their food and sat back down on the couch together turning the TV onto a hockey game that was playing right now.
They finished eating and Connor brought the plates into the kitchen and came back tot he living room and sat on the couch laying his head onto her lap, Clementine looked down smiling at her brother and started playing with his hair.
They watched the entire hockey game and Clementine could feel Connor fast asleep in her lap, she grabbed the other blanket covering him and set her alarm before she rested her head on the couch and slowly began to fall asleep as well.
December 21, 2023
Clementine woke up to the sound of her alarm, she rubbed her eyes shutting the alarm off seeing Connor slowly waking up as well.
Clementine yawned stretching her arms above her head before reluctantly getting off the couch, she headed to the guest room and did all of her toiletries and everything before putting all her stuff back in her duffle bag and closing it up, she grabbed her bag heading out of the room setting it by the front door.
Connor walked out of his room looking more awake, “Ready to go?” Connor asked Clementine while slipping on his slides.
Clementine nodded and picked her bag back up heading out of his apartment and down to the parking garage, they both got in the car and started the drive to airport.
After a little while they got to the crazy busy Chicago airport, getting to the terminal she’s needs to go to. Connor pulled into the parking spot by the terminal.
Clementine sadly smiled and leaned over the console pulling Connor into a tight hug, “I’ll see you in a few days, have a good game tonight, I love you.” Clementine pressed a soft kiss to the side of his head.
Connor held onto his sister tightly always hating saying bye to her, “Have a good game too, I love you too Faye.” He reluctantly pulled away sending her a sad smile, one she easily returned.
Clementine hopped out of the car with her bag and started heading to the door, she turned around sending one last wave to her brother before heading into the airport.

You put Natascia Foligno as a Bruins WAG but she's married to his brother Marcus. Nick's wife name is Janelle.
Thanks for pointing that out, I'll change it! I clearly wasn't paying attention then lmao

what am i to you? - josh anderson
Tumblr media
summary: Sometimes letting a relationship go is hard, even when it's still new.
word count: 2,110
Kiera hadn’t worked out why she had even decided to show up. Her invite had originally been an extension to Josh’s but as soon as Janelle caught wind that she might now come, many texts were sent demanding her attendance.
So, she had gotten home from work, showered, curled her hair, done her makeup and put on her new, flowy, metallic skirt with her red velvet top and finished the look with her best red pumps. What she hadn’t done was wait for Josh to pick her up, which was lucky because he was already at the Foligno’s when she arrived.
She didn’t ignore him, though, despite the cold shoulder he’d given her over the past week. She smiled as she made her way to him first, holding onto his forearm as she leaned onto her toes to press a red-lipped kiss to his cheek. She gingerly wiped away the mark left behind as she said hello to the people he was talking to before leaving to greet everyone else.
“Kiera! God, I’m so glad you came. It was your idea to make mulled wine and I really need help,” Janelle said, grapping at Kiera’s hands and pulling her into the kitchen.
“Oh, I see. I’m only good for helping with the wine. That’s the real reason you wanted me here.”
Janelle rolled her eyes. “I wanted you here because you’re great. Also, kind of because the boys have been saying that Andy hasn’t been himself and I will fix whatever it is that’s gone wrong.”
Kiera pulled a bottle of wine off the table to inspect it and then scrutinized the spices Janelle had put out. She turned to the host and shrugged, “You’ll have to talk to him because I do not know.”
The mistletoe was abundant—whether it was hanging from door frames or the hands of over-excited drunk adults. Not that it mattered for Kiera because Josh hadn’t moved from when he was standing when she arrived. Others had given or accepted a kiss on the cheek, but Josh hadn’t even met her gaze. She would know; she had hardly taken her eyes off him.
The worst part, Kiera thought, was how friendly everyone else was being. If they had been assholes to her then she could have at least assumed Josh had been badmouthing her, that she had done something to make him mad. All she had to go on was Janelle’s single comment about him behaving strangely and a whole house full of teammates and their partners who were treating her like she still belonged.
Felicia took up a seat beside Kiera in the kitchen, gladly accepting a glass of mulled wine.
“Do you know why he’s ignoring me?”
“I didn’t know yesterday. I don’t know today. I’ll tell you the second I do know.”
Kiera huffed and turned to Nat who was shaking her head sympathetically.
“I should just let it go, right?” Kiera asked, swirling her glass. “He’s effectively ghosting me. He hasn’t spoken to me in like a week and we hadn’t even had the ‘are we official?’ conversation.
“Corner him,” Nat suggested.
“Not with this many people around. Maybe tomorrow morning. Before the game.”
“Wait—if he hasn’t spoken to you in a week and you aren’t even together,” Felicia said slowly. “Why are you wearing matching outfits?”
Four heads turned to look at him, checking out the red suit he was wearing that matched her top—and he must have sensed it because for the first time that night he looked in Kiera’s direction.
“He’s too lazy to find a new suit? Being on a road trip also makes it a bit hard,” Kiera suggested, making eye contact and only looking back to the table when he shook his head and broke it.
“When did he stop? Talking to you?” Janelle asked, pouring everyone another glass.
“I was talking to him every day before Monday?” Kiera said uncertainly. “We spoke before the Washington game and then he didn’t text me or answer my call on Tuesday. I just assumed he was mad about the game, but they won so… I must have done something.”
The other women began to hypothesise about the sudden lack of contact and Kiera zoned out—she’d spent the last week thinking about it already. Josh was standing in the same spot in the entertaining room, nursing what might have been the same glass of whiskey. He was somewhat engaged in the conversation he was having with Seth and Boone but in the couple of months she had known him, she knew the signs of him not paying total attention.
Her own attention was broken when Markus and Jenna met each other in the doorway under the mistletoe. Everyone who saw it cooed.
“I’m going to get some air, the wine’s getting to my head,” Kiera excused herself shortly after when she saw Luc disappear outside.
It was cold, which was to be expected but Luc’s smile was warm, and he patted the empty space beside him without hesitation.
“What’re you getting away from?”
“If they play Mariah Carey one more time, my ears will bleed,” he said as he dramatically covered his ears. Kiera laughed.
The air was calm around them, undisturbed by the inside noise despite the door being kept ajar. The Foligno’s yard was everything Kiera had ever wanted in a house.
“Why are you out here?”
“I need you to tell me why Josh is ghosting me.”
“He’s not—”
“I don’t know if this is some Alex Karev type situation and I just need to wait him out or if he doesn’t find me attractive or I did something wrong because he won’t talk to me, Luc.” Kiera inhaled deeply, having spoken all in one breath.
“Karev?” Luc asked, confused. “Who does he play for?”
“Have you never watched Grey’s Anatomy? I’ve failed you.”
“What does it have to do with Andy?”
Kiera shuddered, gathering her arms around herself to fight the wind. Also, maybe to hide her face.
“He’s not talking to me and I don’t know why. Do I just let him go?” she asked quietly. “I don’t want to let him go, Luc.”
Luc shuffled closer to her, wrapping his arm over her shoulder to keep her warm. She leaned into it.
“Vrana said something to him during the game. About sloppy seconds? I don’t know exactly, he won’t talk about it.”
Kiera froze. She knew exactly what he meant.
“You’re—” she cleared her throat. “You’re telling me that Josh isn’t talking to me because twelve months ago I got a random dick pick from Jakub Vrana on Instagram?” she scoffed and pulled away to rest her elbows on her knees. “I didn’t even send a photo back, much less do anything that would mean I’m anyone’s ‘sloppy seconds’. He didn’t even ask me—just assumed—”
Luc interrupted her, a solid hand on her upper back to calm her down, “Wilson got involved. He’s very good at getting—”
“Josh’s solution wasn’t even to ask me. He just—he gave up.”
Kiera stood up, shaking out her hands and taking a deep breath. She turned, ready to head back inside and give Josh a piece of her mind when she saw him standing by the door.
“I’m sorry,” he said lowly.
“Good for you,” Kiera spat, turning on her heel and walking into the garden. Her heart ached when she heard the door shut behind her, assuming that Josh had gone back inside. There were footsteps behind her, she was ready to turn and tell Luc to leave her alone, but it was Josh’s voice she heard.
“I should have spoken to you about it,” he said. “He said it and I saw red and then I took it out on you. It was easier to not talk to you.”
“I lived a good life before I met you,” she said, stopping in her tracks somewhere in the middle of the garden. “Were you mad because of the idea that I’ve slept with someone else?”
Josh shook his head. “You’re… You’re you.” He gestured to her. “I’m not stupid enough to think I’m the only guy you’ve ever been with. I was mad that he was talking about you that way—and I was mad at myself for the split second thought I did have that screamed mine like a fucking caveman.”
Despite herself, despite her anger, Kiera smiled but bit into her cheeks to stop it. She pushed her hands under his suit jacket, into the warmth of his body.
“It’s not hot,” she said, still biting into her cheek. This time to hide a lie. “The possessive caveman thing.” She paused briefly before saying, “You could have at least punched him.”
“Tomorrow.”
“He deserves it. It wasn’t even a good photo.”
Josh wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his solid body.
“I don’t want to give up,” he told her. “I think you’re pretty great.”
“Ooo, a five-star review,” Kiera joked, pinching his side. He chuckled. “You’re pretty great, too, for what it’s worth. It’s why being ghosted sucked so bad.”
He kept one arm around her waist but brought the other up to brush his thumb over her deep red lips.
“You came in, looking like a total smoke show and you kissed my cheek and I was ready to drop to my knees and beg right then and there. A kiss on the cheek, Key.”
Kiera pinched him again. “Why didn’t you?”
“Because you told me you hate big, grand romantic gestures.”
“That one couldn’t have hurt.”
Josh’s knees were bending before she had even finished her sentence. She clawed at him to keep him upright.
“Stop,” she said, exasperatedly. “A—the ground is wet. B—you were right. C—there are a couple of ways you can ask for forgiveness on your knees later. I’m not too keen on taking up exhibitionism tonight”
“But at a later date?”
She swatted at his chest, her cheeks having turned a vibrant shade of red that she would blame on the biting wind if pressed.
Josh closed a hand around hers and brought it up to his mouth, pressing a kiss to her palm before cupping them and blowing warm air onto them.
Kiera couldn’t look away from his face, from the pleased smile she could sense through the crinkling of his eyes. He said something into her hands, and she mocked his mumbling by making a series of unintelligible noises.
“I’m going to start telling people that you’re my girlfriend,” he repeated after moving their hands to his chest.
“Do I get a say in that?”
“I suppose,” he feigned exasperation, tugging her closer with the hands he wasn’t letting go of.
“Well, I suppose,” she mocked him again in a dry voice, getting close enough to push her thigh between his legs and feel him squirm, “you’re my boyfriend, then.”
He kissed her with enough force that she took a step back, but it was only seconds before she recovered and wrapped her arms around his neck to deepen the kiss.
She could feel every second of it in her soul, in her core, and pulled him closer to make sure that he could not get away. Even if that was hardly a real threat, when he was wrapping his arms around her waist so tightly that there was no space at all left between them. Their breathing was heavy, laboured, and they only broke for air half a second at a time.
If the sudden increase in noise was anything to go by, the backdoor opened, but it didn’t create any hesitation in the kiss.
At least until there was a bang on the window and Nick calling out, “You better not be about to make any babies in my yard! Get inside before I turn the sprinklers on.”
Josh groaned, breaking the kiss and spitting a few choice swear words at his captain while Kiera took a moment to regain her composure.
When Josh looked down at her, adoringly yet disappointedly, she laughed at the lipstick that had transferred onto his lips. She brushed at it with her thumb, trying her best to clear it, only for him to raise his thumb to her mouth and wipe at the edges of her lips to clear her own smudges.
His expression was enough for her to know that she was never going to look like she did when she showed up but she was quite happy for nothing to be the same as when she’d arrived.

I think that the chances are pretty good that Foligno comes back to Columbus this summer. With how he talked about being willing because it would be good for the team, it sounds like he still considers himself a Blue Jackets player. And what he brings is mostly off-ice, so I don’t think anyone will make him crazy offers in free agency. He’s much more valuable to Columbus than to any other team. It would be almost like he’s being loaned for the playoffs in exchange for some pretty sweet picks. Definitely unconventional, but hey🤷‍♀️
Plus Janelle and the kiddos stayed here.
Not holding my breath that Nick or Dave will return just some wishful thinking.

Working Title
Part 1 Part 2
Part 3
It’s been two hours since Evgeni bit the metaphorical bullet and finally admitted to Sid that he loved him. That he’s been in love with him. He went back inside for bit, after Sid hung up on him; ate some more food, drank some more champagne, played with the kids a little, and sulked by Bobrovsky and Tyutin for the last half hour so he didn’t have to try to translate and retranslate all the English being spoken and yelled. He’s about to go see if any of Janelle’s jam cookies had survived when Tyutin sighs loudly.
“Go call your captain again, I’m sick of your moping.”
Evgeni blinks at him. “Why would I be moping over Foligno?”
“He means Crosby,” Bobrovsky says. “And don’t deny that you’ve been moping; you’ve been doing it since October.”
“Pouting, more like,” Tyutin smirks.
Evgeni snaps his mouth shut. “I haven’t been pouting,” he whines.
Tyutin frowns. “You’re twenty-seven year’s old, Malkin, that’s not attractive.”
“Not that he wants to get with your ugly mug anyway,” Bobrovsky teases. “He’s too busy pining over Crosby.”
And it feels like Evgeni’s just fell into a hole of a frozen pond. His heart is racing with fear and his brain is filled with static. “What?”
Tyutin smacks the back of Bobrovsky’s head. “We agreed to let him take his time with telling us.” He hisses. “Look what you’ve done; he’s panicking!”
“I’m not panicking,” Evgeni says automatically. “Wait, you knew? How!”
Bobrovsky snorts. “You’re not subtle. Either of you.”
“It’s the entire league’s worst-kept secret,” Tyutin agrees. “Crosby and Malkin are disgustingly in love, don’t burst the bubble.”
“Who else-“ Evgeni swallows. “Does Putin-“
Tyutin raises an eyebrow. “If you haven’t been arrested by now, you’re probably safe.”
“Probably?!”
“Look,” Bobrovsky sighs. “As long you aren’t explicitly declaring your love or whatever on camera, Russia doesn’t give a fuck.”
Evgeni stares down at the empty punch cup he doesn’t remember acquiring. “We?”
“Hm?” Tyutin and Bobrovsky look at him, curious.
“You said ‘we’ weren’t subtle,” Evgeni says.
“May God help us all, if this is the future of hockey,” Tyutin mutters. “Yes, you and Crosby. I thought that was the whole reason you called him earlier, to grace him with your sweet voice?”
“I- I told him I love him.” Evgeni can’t meet their eyes. He knows they’re saying they’re fine with- with Evgeni’s feelings, but. He doesn’t know.
Bobrovsky raises his eyebrows. “That was your first time saying it? Oh, Evgeni,” he looks almost- disapproving? “You waited till now to tell him?” He clicks his tongue. “No wonder you’ve been moping- he must be really upset.”
Evgeni curls inward. Bobrovsky’s right- Sid is very upset. He should have told him sooner, but- he was a coward, there’s no other word for it. “He doesn’t think it- a relationship- is worth it.” He mutters.
Tyutin grunts indignantly. “He broke up with you? On New Year’s?”
“We were never even together,” Evgeni snaps defensively. “And I wouldn’t blame him even if we were.”
“You’re both fucking children,” Tyutin groans. “You have played together for nine years. You choose to wait until two months after you’ve been traded to confess your fucking feelings and he decides that after, again, nine. Fucking. Years. That now he doesn’t think a relationship is worth it?”
Evgeni crosses his arms and tries to become one with the wall. Tyutin opens his mouth, probably to berate him more, Evgeni sulks, when Nick Foligno appears in front of them.
“Gentlemen!” He grins. “Can I borrow Evgeni for a moment? Yes? Wonderful! Come along, Evgeni, let’s go see if there’s anything to eat still.”
“Jam cookies?” Evgeni asks hopefully, pushing away from the wall to follow his new captain through the house.
Foligno throws his head back in laughter. “We can see if there’s any left, how ‘bout that?”
“Okay,” Evgeni smiles, the promise of Janelle’s cookies bolstering him through to the kitchen. “So, what you want to talk about?”
“The boys weren’t bothering you, were they,” Foligno asks casually, sitting Evgeni down at the island and sliding a plate of jam cookies in front of him. “Sergei And Fedor,” Foligno clarifies. “Things looked tense back there.”
“A little,” Evgeni admits, biting into a cookie. “But not way you’re thinking. Just…trying to help.”
“Help that involves almost shouting?” Foligno says dryly. He shakes his head. “No, sorry, that’s not-“ he sighs. “Is it anything that I, as your captain, can help with?”
Evgeni sets down his second cookie and sits up straight. “Maybe,” he says carefully. “Depends. On how you feel about uh.” He makes a face, thinking of the right word. He can’t remember the word, so he settles on the one that’s used a lot. “Gay?”
“Oh.” Foligno looks confused for a moment, then seems to get what Evgeni’s not saying. “Oh!” He nods, almost aggressively, like those little toys- bobble heads, Evgeni remembers. Foligno grins bashfully. “My, uh, my sister, Lisa? She’s actually bi. Um, bisexual.”
Evgeni tries to remember what that word means. ‘Sex’, obviously, he gets. And ‘bi’ means two, so-
“Basically,” Foligno says, seeing Evgeni’s train of thought, “it means she like both guys and girls.”
“Oh,” Evgeni says. He rolls the word around on his tongue: bi-sex-u-al. He nods decisively. “Good word,” he says softly. “For your sister, and for me.”
Foligno nods some more; Evgeni’s concerned that if he’s not careful, his head’s going to pop off. “Cool, yeah, that’s-“ he breathes in deeply. “Thank you,” he says quietly. “For trusting me with this.”
Evgeni’s surprised by how genuine Foligno is- then immediately feels bad about it. He shrugs, smiling uncomfortably. “There is…more,” he says slowly. “Tyutin and Bobrovsky say league knows. About me and,” he makes a ‘c’ with his hand and taps it against his left shoulder. “You know?”
Foligno’s eyes soften. “Yeah,” he says. “I know. And long distance is hard, but believe me, it’s completely worth it. So anytime you want to talk, or complain, or whatever, I’m here, okay?”
“We’re not even together,” Evgeni bemoans. “Why does everyone think that? I only figured out how I felt for him over the summer and I just told him two fucking hours ago! And I still don’t know how he feels about me! Just that he doesn’t think a relationship between us is worth it anymore!”
“Um,” Foligno blinks. “Champagne must finally be catching up to you, because I understood, like, a quarter of that.”
Evgeni drops his head into his hands and groans. “Worst.”

Nick Foligno unplugged – Blue Jackets captain on FaceTiming, the NHL’s possible return, WFH life and more
Tumblr media
[ad_1]
Like the rest of us, Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno is adjusting to his new reality of staying at home, as the NHL season is on pause. The 32-year-old Foligno and his wife, Janelle, have three kids, ages 6, 4 and 2.
“I’m getting a nice dose of what my wife deals with on a daily basis,” Foligno said. “It is kind of fun, though. Like you’re making up for lost time. I’ve chosen…

You looked over at Josh after the doctor let you sit up finally. He was standing next to your bed. There was that familiar smirk on his face but it had been replaced with a look of distress and the color was gone from his face.
“Josh.” You reach out to grab his elbow. “Babe.” You tug a little on his hoodie to bring him back to you. His eyebrows are furrowed and you can see his mind is racing. “Josh.” You mustard all the power you could since your voice sounds weaker than it should be.
“Sorry.” He rubs his face. “Did you say surgery?” His hand drops and you take the chance to interlace your fingers in his and pull him towards you.
“Well, not necessary and not right now regardless.” Dr. Jaynes puts his hand on your foot which is still being stabilized. “We will have to let (y/n) heal a little. Keep it in a boot. X-ray in another week. Take it week by week.” He emphasized the end and Josh turns to look you up and down.
“See baby, I’m fine.” You squeeze his hand and smile at him. He huffs and looks you over again.
“(Y/n), I’m thankful this is all we have to worry about but this is far from fine Sweetie.” Josh’s jaw is clinched.
“I agree, this could have been very serious. I’ve seen many patients come in with worse conditions and accidents that were not a bad as yours. We want to monitor you today but you should be discharged tomorrow morning if all goes well. Change your meds and get a boot on your foot that you can go home in. The nurse and Physical therapist will be after lunch to fit your boot and talk home care. Any questions?”
“Can I wear normal clothes yet?” You were tired of this gown that showed all the bruising on your body. You could see Josh’s face when he saw them and you knew Mason would not be able to handle it.
“Well, let’s get the boot on and make sure we don’t need to do any more tests then yes. Can someone bring you some?” You go to say your mom could run by on her way here but then you hear Josh starting to talk.
“I can. I’ll go get my car, shower, get your clothes and some breakfast. Sound okay? It won’t take me long.” Josh brings your hand up to his lips and kisses softly.
The staff all leave and Josh almost immediately has his lips on yours. You breathe him in. How does he still smell so amazing? He’s pretty much been in the same sweats since morning skate yesterday.
“I don’t want to leave you but I’ll be quick plus someone is coming to sit with you until our mom gets here.” Josh kisses you again and you need to get your phone and ask mom for lipgloss. You feel how chapped your lips are against his.
“Wait, what?” You processed that he said someone was coming to sit with you. You give him a look trying to read his face but the look is one you’ve never seen from him until today. “Josh, I don’t need anyone to sit with me. My mom will be here in like an hour.”
“It’s an hour too long and it’s too late. They are here.” He looks down at his phone and back at you. Sure enough in walks Natalie Atkinson and Janelle Foligno. Your hand immediately goes to your hair to try and tame the mess. Josh is greeting them at the door and moves to let them in. Janelle has the biggest edible arrangement you’ve ever seen and sits it next to your bed.
“Hey (y/n)!” Natalie comes right next to you and places her hand on yours. “You have all of us freaked out.” She eyes you like she wants to give you a hug but isn’t sure so you lean in to initiate.
“Thank you, sorry. Wasn’t expecting this clearly.” You smile and the ladies quietly laugh. You eye Josh with a mouthful of pineapple. “Are you eating my gift?”
“Um...Stress eating.” He mumbles though bites and hands you the card.
All our love,
The Lady Jackets
It’s simple but speaks volumes.
“See, hockey is a family. They all have been blowing my phone up since I got the call.” Josh now has a strawberry in his mouth and hands you a skewer. He had told you but you were starting to see it. While it’s a business and his job these people really were his family in Columbus and they had their arms wide open for you and Mason to join.
Josh kisses you and made Janelle promise to call him if any doctor came in before he got back. He kisses the top of your head again and Janelle hands him her keys. He stares at you whispers he loves you and ducks out.
“You’ve changed him.” Janelle smiles softly at you. “Nick agrees. You bring out the best of him and we are so thankful he found you.” She places her hand in yours then goes to pulls up the chair across the room to sit next to Natalie.
You were thankful for Janelle and Natalie. They didn’t focus on your accident just talking about your boys, the kids, and your favorite things to do with kids in Columbus. You found yourself easily talking to them like you’ve been friends for years.
“Honey?” Your mom’s voice comes from behind the door. Her face was puzzled as she took in the room. She nodded to the girls and leaned in to rub your face like she’s always done and kissed your forehead. You introduced Janelle and Natalie. “Thank you for keeping (y/n) company while I got Mason to school and her dad off to work.”
“How’s Mason?” Your voice is the strongest it’s felt since your crash.
“He knows you are at the hospital with a hurt foot but that’s it. We didn’t know what to tell him.” Her hand rubs yours. “I’m glad you are so alert. When Josh texted saying you were more like yourself I thought there was some wishful thinking there.”
“They are weaning me off the meds so I can go home. And dad?” Your eyebrows pressed together to try and read your mom’s face.
“He’s keeping himself busy to he doesn’t have to think about it. The man couldn’t find his socks in his own sock drawer this morning.” Her statement produced a laugh out of the room. You could only imagine. You sprained your knee in high school and he completely relandscaped the yard while you waited for your ortho appointment to see if you torn any ligaments.
Your mom easily fell into conversation as she stood at your side brushing your hair. All of a sudden you could smell food. “Josh is back.” You exclaimed in a hushed voice and the three women all looked at you then the door.
Sure enough Josh walks in with a backpack that he makes look tiny and breakfast.
“Well, I guess I didn’t bring enough food for the party ladies, just our patient.” He had two bags from Fox in Snow and what you can only guess is your favorite, New Orleans Iced Coffee. He takes a sip.
“Wait, that’s not for me?” You look at him disappointed.
“Well, I wanted a sip before you downed it.” He laughs and hands it over.
“And Fox in Snow is a little out of the way from your place?” You raise your eyebrow.
“Yeah, I took a detour.” He rubs he back of his neck and slowly sits on your bed.
Your mom was already moving your tray over so Josh can lay out your breakfast. Janelle and Natalie said their goodbyes to all three of you.
“So what did you ladies talk about?” Josh had shoved his ham and cheese baguette in his mouth.
“You mainly.” He almost chokes which makes you laugh. “You okay babe? And did you time this out so you were there when the baguettes were available?” You smile at him and grab your own.
“Maybe...” he smirks at you. “And what about me were you talking about?” His eyes meet yours then he looks over to your mom who has made herself comfortable in the chair next to you.
“Oh you know, girl talk. But we also talked about where I love to take Mace too.” He gives you a glare that makes you almost laugh.
“Speaking is Mace...is he coming here after school?”
“That’s the plan.” Your mom chimes in not looking up from her magazine. “Also depends on (y/n) too.”
“Yeah, let’s see how this afternoon goes. You can bring him for dinner maybe?” You look at Josh and then your Mom.
“I told preschool I would pick him up today. Figured we can do lunch and hang out until your dad got home.” She finally looks at you. She has her ‘not going to my emotions get the best of me’ face on. You once called it stoic and got an ear full from her. “I’m glad Josh is here since I’ll have to leave soon to get in that lovely pick up line.”
You could tell your mom was relieved Josh was here. You were thankful too but you didn’t want him to miss anymore work. “Thank you mom. I know how much that pick up line is the death of you.” You giggle and turn your attention to Josh who has kept a hand on your body and still managing to eat. “And J, you need to go back to work. Isn’t there a game tomorrow?” You move your leg a bit to nudge him.
“It’s in 2 days. I’m only going to morning skate tomorrow and leaving as soon as your are released. Torts is okay with it.” He rubs his hand up your leg.
“Babe, you need to go back to...” you try to repeat but Josh interrupts you.
“Nope. Torts is a family first kind of coach. I’m sure he wouldn’t let me practice if I showed up anyway. Plus we have a quick roadie to Pittsburgh in three days.”
“And you are going to that?” It came out more like a statement than a question.
“As long as you are settled. Your mom and I already talked about plans for home.” Josh’s smirk was back.
“Yes we did.” Mom chimes in again. You almost forgot she was there for a moment.
“I’m your primary care taker and she’s worked out the whole Mason thing and then back up when I’m gone. Plus Beth is going to help.” Josh looks pleased with himself.
“Wait? What? Beth? Plan?” Your puzzled look makes both your mom and Josh laugh.
“Yeah, your mom wasn’t exactly comfortable with the showering thing.” Josh’s smile reaches his eyes as he chuckles.
“Oh. My. Word. What the...” You look at Josh and feel the heat flood to your face. You see your mom laughing silently next to you.
“There is only one person in this room that has seen you naked in the last four years and it’s not me.” Your mom laughs out. How was this conversation happening? You eye Josh who just shrugs his shoulders with a look of satisfaction.
“She’s not wrong there babe.” This makes your hands cover your face in sheer embarrassment.
“Can we please talk about something else?” You mumble through your palms. Your mom and Josh comfortably talking about seeing you naked is the last thing you want to discuss or imagine.
“Sure.” You hear another voice coming through door. Your eyes dart towards the voice. The physical therapist introduces himself and you know the red on your cheeks is not going anywhere anytime soon. “I’m not here for your boot yet but I needed to make sure if you brought pants that they would fit or if your family needed to go get something else.” He eyes Josh who clearly hasn’t noticed. You clear your throat and motion to bag.
“Oh! I brought my sweats since I was sure your leggings weren’t fitting over a boot.” Josh gets up to retrieve the bag and pulls out his old team sweats. You catch the PT’s eyes widen and you smile knowing he’s figured out who Josh is.
“Can she wear them?” The physical therapist eyes you and then Josh.
“Yes, she has before plus these are old so if we need to cut them we can.” Josh tugs at the drawstring and you know by the smirk on his face he remembers the last time you wore them. “I’m Josh by the way.” Josh reaches out his hand to the therapist.
“Yeah. Yes, I know. Huge fan. Like major fan.” You laugh at the exchange. Seeing men fangirl over your boyfriend was entertaining especially medicated. “Anyway, I’ll be back after lunch. We wanted to wait to see if (y/n) needed any more tests and we can put the boot on, talk after release care, and such.” He looks at you again and then to your mom then back to Josh. “We will need an idea of a plan for when discharge happens tomorrow too.”
“Taken care of.” Josh proudly admits.
“Oh, great. (Y/n) being home by herself really should be at a minimum until she figures out the whole balance thing.” The therapist is only talking to Josh at this point and your mom is watching the interaction in amusement.
“Wait, balance? Because of my foot?” You chime in confused because a broken foot shouldn’t be this big of a deal.
“Oh, uh, maybe...oh...has the doctor not discussed?” The professional standing in front of your bed sounds like a first year med student if that.
“Please just tell me.” You see your mom’s face contort and Josh flinch.
“You may have vertigo from whiplash that you haven’t noticed since you’ve been laying flat and on pretty heavy meds.” He clears his throat and takes in the room. “It’s nothing that will last a significant amount of time but with the foot plus the potential of vertigo your balance won’t be the best.”
“So...” Josh pipes up. “When are we going to figure out if this is something we need to worry about or not?” You are impressed with his composure and ability to ask the right questions. It’s very sexy.  The therapist seems almost intimidated and excuses himself to what you assume is get your doctor.  Your focus turns to Josh but you don’t get a chance to say a word.
“I need to go get Mason.” Your mom’s voice wasn’t as light as it was earlier.
“Mom.”  You squeak out.  “I’m fine.”  You think if you keep saying it everyone will actually believe you.
“Sweetie, I know.  It’s just a lot.  And yes, I know it could be worse but you could also just be home with some cuts and scrapes.”  She made her way to you and kisses your forehead.
Lunch and the fitting of the boot were somewhat relaxing.  Getting the pins out of your leg from the stabilized was a relief.  The doctor explained the vertigo and had a team help you stand.  He was right.  Your balance was off and you would have fallen on your face if Josh wasn’t in front of you.  His strong arms flexed and came around you almost lifting you up on your bed.  Dr. Jaynes gave you permission to wear normal clothes since Mason was coming and Josh helped you change just in time.
“MOMMA!”  Mason came crashing through the door with a teddy bear that had an Anderson shirt on.  Josh lifted him up to help get him on the bed without hurting you.  “Look, we got you a bear like Bauer but it has Josh’s number on it!”  He hands you the bear and you hug it then him.  Josh has a look in his eye that brings a tear to yours.
“Baby, I’ve missed you.”  You croak out.  Josh takes this moment to jump in.
“Mace, are you ready to be my big helper for Momma?”  Josh sits behind Mason on your bed and Mason leans into him.
“Yes.  We have to help her get better so she can skate for my birthday.”  Mason looks up at Josh and Josh’s face softens.
“Well bud, even if she isn’t, I’ll make sure she gets on the ice with you. Okay?”  Josh rubs Mason’s arm and looks deep into your eyes.  “Babe you okay?”  He notices the watery eyes.
“Yes.  Just ready to get home.”  You didn’t want to admit how Mason’s interaction with Josh was making you emotional.
A new nurse walks in for meds.  Josh stands up but Mason doesn’t move.  She introduces herself and turns her attention to Mason.  “Hi sweetie.  I need to check your mom.  Could you stand with your dad or grandparents for second?” Josh’s eyes bugged out of his head and your lips curl up but Mason is the one to answer.
“Dad? He’s my Josh.”  You giggle a little and the look on nurse’s face was priceless.  You eye Josh who you can see swallowing the lump in his throat as his initial shock look turns to a sweet one.   Josh really was the closest thing to a dad Mason has ever had.  And the fact that Mason claimed him as his made your heart skip a beat.
“Yup, I’m yours.  That’s for sure.” Josh pulls Mason up into his arms and gives him a kiss on his forehead and you melt right there in your hospital bed.
