Batman: The Animated Series - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Miranda Kane
A greatly talented animal trainer and performer, Miranda Kane grew up in the circus. Her parents were also animal trainers and passed on their skills and knowledge to Miranda. When the Kane family joined Haley’s Circus, young Miranda became childhood friends with Dick Grayson
Many years later, Miranda’s parents retired and she took over Haley’s Circus. The circus prospered under her stewardship and traveled from city to city. Upon the Circus' return to Gotham City, Miranda was reunited with her old friend Dick Grayson (who was now the masked vigilante, Nightwing).
A series of strange thefts had been occurring wherein animals were stealing sophisticated pieces of technology. Batman and Nightwing tracked these animals to Haley’s Circus and Miranda found herself the suspect in a police investigation into the thefts.
Desperate to clear her name, Miranda did her own investigating and discovered that it was one of the circus’ clowns who was freeing her animals. This clown turned out to be The Mad Hatter in disguise; and he had been using his mind control circuit cards to manipulate the animals into thieving technology so to further his efforts to create long-range human mind control.
Miranda fell under The Hatter’s control, as did the other circus performers. And they were all forced to battle Batman and Nightwing when they arrived. Fortunately the two heroes prevailed and The Mad Hatter was arrested. With her good name cleared, Miranda returned to running Haley’s Circus.
Actress/musician Jane Wiedlin provided the voice for Miranda Kane with the character appearing in the fifth episode of the second season of The New Batman Adventures, ‘Animal Act.’
