Had my good friend Eric over with his modular to record a couple of jams to kick off Jamuary. I want to upload as often as possible this month, but I'm not holding myself to every day - for example, I sat down on the 2nd for it but couldn't quite get anything out. The important thing is being consistent and building tempo. I did the count and it turns out I posted 62 jams last year, after Jamuary! That's an achievement I'm fairly proud of, and I'd like to share just as much or more and keep improving this year. If things go according to plan, I'll have at least an EP to show for it by the end.
This pair of jams we recorded heavily features Spectraphon and Data Bender to give their primary character, with a plethora of other spice and sequencing. The inclusion of his Morphagene adds some more rich samples which is a usually absent from my solo jamming and makes great fuel for processing.
This was the second jam I did for Jamuary. I did it right after the first one, took a few minutes to play with some instrument sounds and make a few loops before I just hit record and went for it. And honestly, I think it came out better than the first.
I’ve still got my new Liven XFM, and my new bass and a pickup for my violin that I haven’t used in any jams yet. Maybe that should be my next goal, find a way to incorporate at least one of those. I’ve only used my guitar in one of these dawless jams too, so maybe I should do that as well.
Downloaded some new free stuff, did more Minilogue knob tweaking, did some overindulgent acoustic guitar delay, kept some constants like the Farfisa and some Pram-adjacent malletous instrument from a new softsynth.
End of month. Learned a ton. More to come.
*Two things. One, I always remembered the original as "they're all good dogs, Brent" and that's wrong, there's no all in the original. Two, the day that tweet went viral, I swear there was another viral thread or something about somebody's lab partner or classmate or coworker or something getting their name wrong all day like Brent/Brant/Bront, and that made the joke a thousand times funnier, but that detail seems lost to time. Anyone? Anyone else remember this?

Covering Kraftwerk with one finger on one synth, but that synth is the legendary Korg Prophecy. Listening on both ears to get the full effect. Part of my commitment to posting one new jam per day for the month of Jamuary (yes that's the right spelling). I learned about the Jamuary challenge from Ableton Certified Trainer Brian Funk on his music production podcast.
