Since it’s now 2022 summer time, something Great Gatsby must happen, Maybe I’ll get shot at a pool or meet a handsome rich neighbor at his fancy party. You gotta take your chances.

even if aronnax and nemo both live, and regret their parting in a way, i think each one assuming the other is dead is probably for the best. i've talked before about nemo the man versus nemo the idea... as that divide grew deeper and deeper, there was really no other way for it to end except explosively. i genuinely don't think that difference could be reconciled.
aronnax fell in love with nemo the idea, nemo the symbol, nemo the carefully sculpted persona; even after nemo the man dies, nemo the idea persists, because an idea is much harder to kill than any physical body. aronnax hardly lost anything, in a sense, because just as he realized that nemo the man wasn't nemo the idea, the man was lost, permanently. nemo the idea is still as alive and real to aronnax as he was when they met: the idea was never real, so it cannot die. and he no longer has anything else to compare it to. the moment he lost the man, and the man ceased to exist, the idea became everything and retroactively subsumed the man completely.
effectively the man is erased from memory and replaced with the idea as if he never existed. there is no reason to do otherwise. and indeed it is less painful to erase the complex, imperfect, deeply hurting man than to admit that the perfect beautiful immortal idea that survives him never even existed.
when The Man and The Idea Of The Man grow apart, the idea always prevails, because the idea has no body. and in order to prevail, the idea must destroy the man.

if nemo and aronnax ever reunite in the future i think they would have to kill each other immediately

if theres even one person out there who finds “public domain character Jay Gatsby is a prominent character in my otherwise entirely original character based sci fi story” as funny as me,. well. they will inherit my fortune of 1 dollar when I die.

This isn’t exactly the ship dynamic/plot of my short story, but it’s not *not* the ship dynamic/plot.

Men I constantly rotate in my mind:
James Paul McCartney
James Buchanan Barnes
James Gatz
There is a theme
Also the fact that none of them actually go by their first names

I’ve actually been thinking about writing a Great Gatsby story since the novel by F Scott Fitzgerald became public domain. Who knew that pirates and the Great Gatsby could go so well together?
Tumblr media
Synopsis: During a voyage for a diplomatic mission, translator Nick Carraway is one of many prisoners taken and held for ransom by the notorious Captain Jay Gatsby—a charismatic and mysterious pirate who will stop at nothing to gain wealth on the Seven Seas and get to his one true love, Lady Daisy Buchanan, the wife of Governor Tom Buchanan of Greenlight Port. So what happens on the night before Jay’s plan to attack the port and take Daisy away is set is begin?
First chapter will be uploaded to Wattpad and AO3 (under the same username) on Saturday.

Some realism attempts for drawing Gatsby as well as some concept drafts for a bigger piece for a test grade
i drew Daisy as blonde at first 'cause when I looked her up her actress was blonde when later in the book she's described with presumably brown hair -_-
shouts out to James Gatz for being a simp and sad he's fun to draw

🙌What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?
This is OLLLLD but I still love it after all these years
…Even as he clung so desperately to that self composed of gold coins and well-spoken words he was simultaneously that same little James Gatz, a boy who wanted so badly to not only be better but to simply be good.
Or good as Jay had defined it to himself. A rich man with a socially exceptional wife and a vast fortune to stand on…it was indeed what we were all expected to want. Success as defined by those who were born into it.
