If you're still doing the prompts, 23 or 1: for morgan x (shy) f!detective, please💕🙏
1. There’s people chasing us and I pulled you into the alley with me and wow you’re close
Rapid footsteps echo on the pavement, finally far enough behind me that I can duck down a side street to try to catch my breath. My pursuant pauses, I can see her shadow--cast by the dim streetlamp nearby--wavering, unsure. Pressing myself against the wall, I don't dare to move with her so close in case I alert her of my location... Relief courses through me as she slowly starts to retreat. Then my phone chirps.
No! I turn to run, but my boot catches on an uneven patch of sidewalk. I cry out as I'm sent crashing to the ground, pain shooting up my leg when my knee cracks against the pavement. I twist around and she's practically on top of me, arms reaching...
"Oh my gosh, are you okay?!"
"Yeah, I'm fine Tina," I chuckle weekly through my embarrassment. I take her offered hand and stand, wincing. "Just going to have a hell of a bruise."
"Well, I won't tag you since you're injured. I'll even give you a headstart!" Tina flashes an apologetica, before laughing and closing her eyes. "I won't be so nice the next time I catch you though!"
It was Tina's suggestion for us to take our break outside as a change of pace from our late night of seemingly endless paperwork. Somehow it turned into this game of tag with a couple other officers, us running around like a group of schoolchildren. I have to admit it's been more fun than I expected, letting go like this.
I brush myself off with a soft smile, then turn on my heel and start running again. I take as many turns as I can to throw Tina off (without getting too far from the station). My route is interrupted when someone appears in front of me and I nearly collide into them.
"I'm so s-... Morgan?"
"Shh!"
The vampire grabs my arm and whisking me through the narrow, sheltered gap between two houses nearby. She doesn't release her hold when we arrive. She's coiled with tension, practically vibrating with the growl she's fighting to contain.
"What's going on?" Morgan asks in a rough whisper, not looking down at me until she's finished scanning our surroundings. My confusion must show on my face, because she groans and clarifies: "I was patrolling nearby, I heard you scream."
Oh. The fall. Oh no. My cheeks burn with embarrassment as I come to the mortifying realisation.
"Right, um, well-" the mere inches between our faces is not helping me put this into words- "that was... we were playing a game and... I fell."
Morgan is quiet for several long seconds, before she hisses incredulously: "You've survived getting mauled by a vampire, been threatened by a bunch of magic mirror motherfuckers, and you screamed because you fell?!"
"Tina startled me!" I squeak defensively.
Morgan's shoulders drop as she lets out a long breath, her irritation quickly shaken off and replaced with... something else. Her teeth flash in the dim light as she smirks and leans in closer towards me. Her lips graze my ear, making my whole body shiver, and I worry I might pass out on the spot when she exhales a whisper over my skin:
"For your own safety, I guess I'll need to get more familiar with your screams, sweetheart."
This woman is going to be the death of me.
~~~
Okay, this went through waaayy too many versions (none of which were really any better than the last, but I over think). Anyways, hopefully you enjoyed! It didn't actually end up that close to the prompt. 😂
Thanks for the ask @chaoticbooklover! I may post a Part 2 or even a Morgan POV down the road if that's of interest, the scene is longer in my head (just not in words yet). 😁
