the Sully kids' reaction to Jake saying Spider "knew everything" breaks my heart.

they knew him better than anyone else, better than their parents. they knew his love for Eywa, for Pandora, for The People, for the clan, for their family. they knew he would never tell the RDA anything... not willingly at least.

they knew they were leaving because Spider would be tortured for information, he'd be forced to reveal their home, their plans, their numbers, their weaknesses. their brother would be tortured and they were being forced to leave him behind.

(Disclaimer: I know the court of owls storyline happens in the n52 continuity, but for my own sake (as i don't really like tim's whole deal in it lol) this AU is using pre-n52 backstories and characterizations)

In this AU, Janet Drake was a member of the Court of Owls, unbeknownst to Jack and Tim. Bruce eventually finds this out, but chooses to keep it from Tim to protect him. Tim, of course, finds out that Bruce is keeping this from him, and, feeling betrayed both by Bruce and his own mother, decides to infiltrate the Court on his own. The court has been sending him cryptic invitations ever since Bruce announced his initiative to improve Gotham, looking for a way into both the Wayne family and WE. As a member of the Court, Tim is able to gather information to help stop them, but in order to maintain his cover, he is forced into many situations where he is forced to choose between compromising his morals or compromising his position in the Court.

What if in the playmaker au vos (under extreme torture etc etc) confesses that he knows obi-wan from before and then manages not to get killed (at least right away) bc he gives Anakin all the info he’s got on obi-wan.

Hey. If obi-wan didn’t want to be betrayed, he shouldn’t have backstabbed first.

And then. He gets forced to do things for anakin and the mob if he wants to continue not being dead - like probably giving info that gets cops killed or even having to do the killing himself (maybe his minder could be ventress? Is she already in the story?) and eventually the cops figure he’s gone to the mob side ( 😉 😉) and so he starts helping anakin / ventress in earnest because he pretty much has nothing to do and he very much likes being alive thank you very much. And he becomes useful enough that he just becomes a member of the mob. But kept far faaaar away from obi-wan.

And maybe later on it doesn’t matter how far because its obvious he only had eyes for ventress 🤷‍♀️

see so im torn because i really like the idea of quinlan being obi-wan's kill -- it's an important part of his devolution/corruption/obsession with anakin, that he thinks about being taken away from anakin and then ensures that that cannot happen because he can't bear it. he signs a man's death warrant by kissing him because in the moment the only thing he's thinking of is staying with anakin and quinlan knows too much, quinlan's seen too much and obi-wan's feeling exposed and vulnerable because of it. He can't lose anakin so he kills quinlan, a guy that really is his friend.

this is before he physically kills the other policeman via shooting him in the face to save anakin's life because he's slowly being corrupted over time and quinlan's death as this piece of his fall is really important. it's him choosing anakin over his father for the first time, and it just ends with quinlan dead </3

but i mean i guess it's unlikely that anakin would kill quinlan in front of obi-wan and even if he did shoot him, i guess he could survive the shot if it wasn't point blank in the head?

oh, yeah, another thing i noticed that was odd about s5 in comparison to earlier seasons was how much they relied on like. not the history of the doctor, exactly, but the image of that history. whether from little easter eggs of the first doctor’s picture popping up everywhere to i think the two(?) times in the season we get a montage of past doctors. and i honestly can’t remember anything like that happening earlier (with the exception of the time crash short, which felt more substantial to me and was also like. 7 straight minutes of david tennant being allowed to fangirl.)

and i say ‘the image’ because hell knows the RTD era was pulling from doctor who past left, right, and center, but it rarely felt like a moment of ‘look at this old thing, you remember old thing? old thing was cool and so are we for continuing it.’ and more like ‘here’s a species/character/etc from classic who. and here’s how they’ve changed and fit into the new world we’ve built for the show.’

I guess, the difference here for me is that. i haven’t watched classic who. s5 shows me a slideshow of doctors and to me, those are the guys i once ranked by how sexy i think they are. and not much else. i don’t have an emotional connection to an image. but take, say, school reunion? an episode that was my favorite even back when i was a kid specifically because i adored sarah jane? i had no idea who she was then, i only just figured out a little bit ago which doctor she traveled with, and exclusively all i’ve watched of her is that episode in s2 and the sarah jane adventures. and yet, that episode, without the context there for me, managed to make sense to me. i’m sure it was probably even more impactful to fans of sarah jane from classic who, but it didn’t lose its impact without that knowledge.

so, that’s a shift. i don’t want to say it’s a negative one, exactly, because maybe people who have seen classic who like these references and i’m missing something. but, to me, it feels a little more shallow.

hi, I don't use tumblr often, but i when i do, i always check your account to check if you posted something. LIAB is amazing. i truly have no words. i have read a LOT of fanfics from very different fandoms and i can confidently say that Leaving It All Behind is the best one i have ever read. the world you've built around the main characters is so deep, and realistic. even though benders are not real, it feels like i'm reading about true events. you describe the horrors of war and trauma so well. i'm actually very, very impressed. i happen to be a person that suffers from ptsd and other mental illnesses and and the way you portray traumatized characters is very realistic. i know you always say that the main characters' recovery is unrealistically fast, but don't worry about that. the way you describe zuko and sokka's feelings is perfect. their recovery doesn't seem rushed. it just looks like they're adapting and learning how to deal with it fast (we have to remember that the war is still very much happening and sadly they don't have a lot of time to deal with everything that happened to them). i'm so grateful i found your work. it's truly amazing, i hope you won't give up on writing when you finish the LIAB trilogy. have a good day/night

#This is so validating you have no idea ahhhh #I have read so many fics where the chatacter (zuko lol) has gone through extreme trauma or torture and he gets rescued or escapes #& then it’s like after a quick patch up job he is essentially back to normal #Which… no. lol.
