ursula k leguin said borders are the real problem we gotta dissolve borders and meant it about whole countries and about individual people....lay aside patriotism and lay aside pride and all the artificially constructed barriers that divide us and breed conflict and let yourself be driven by your love for the people around you......kindness and trust are the only way forward....all seemingly opposing forces really exist in unity with one another....light is the left hand of darkness and darkness is the right hand of light

I love uncle Rick as much as the next person, but I'd appreciate it if he at least kept up with the proper timeline is he's going to insist Percy is still 17 in these books. This should be around 2010-2011 based on Percy's 1993 birthday, but he just made a reference to moving the entrance to the empire state building, which didn't happen until 2018. I'm still loving Chalice of the Gods, but the insistence on keeping Percy in high school kind of takes me out of it a little bit.

I'm reading "A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking" by T Kingfisher and it's WILD because you've got some really real and heavy hitting quotes like
"You expect heroes to survive terrible things. If you give them a medal, then you don't ever have to ask why the terrible thing happened in the first place. Or try to fix it. How else are you gonna have heroes?"
but also, a very major part of the plot is basically this scene from Shrek 2

“Missed me,” I said, loud enough for my voice to carry into the chamber I’d left behind. A limb struck the wall, hard enough to make a cracking sound.   Cold air blew past me, frigid enough to tear the wind from my lungs. When I’d caught my breath, I had to resist the urge to laugh. It was frustrated. Was I a little crazy? No.  Well, yes, maybe. But that wasn’t exactly it. “I’m not so afraid anymore,” I murmured to myself.  “For better or worse.”

44: A random fact about anything
Ah, I missed this but what better way to start off the day than with the random-ass fact that before the pandemic hit, I wrote a whole-ass novel that revolves around a pandemic/apocalypse happening in the US and the government lying and gaslighting a good portion of the people into believing it's not real and another good portion into not realizing how bad it is, which results in an incredible amount of death, destruction and y'know, general world-ending bullshit and then turning around and blaming marginalized communities not just for the entire thing but trying to publically shame them for protecting themselves as best they could with the entire government working against them. 💀 I wrote it and then had to watch the entire thing play out in real time and let me tell you, I'm still not entirely sure what to think about it.

so i read this book today called Hell Followed With Us (very good, highly recommend i finished it already it took me less than six hours) and Nick reminds me so much of Regulus
like, the morally grey bits of him of course BUT i imagine his meltdown with Erin is exactly how Regulus responds to being overwhelmed also
and and and the not liking kissing and physical touch could also be him!! my personal headcanon for Regulus is that he thinks mouths are gross and doesn’t like kissing but does enjoy a good cuddle or hand holding but just!!!
if uve ever read this book please speak to me about it none of my friends have read it, if not you should totally check the tw list and then read it if thats still comfortable for you because it was so good i loved it so very much

I just dont understand why the movie Staurt Little (1999) showed Stuart Little as adopted, when in the book, Stuart Little (1945), Stuart Little was a honest to goodness natural birth child of Mother and Father Little.
40s kids just built diffrent I guess.

Reading books that aren't upfront about their magic is a ride an a half. Especially ones set in the victorian era when spiritualisim was popular.
Like you can just be tiding along with these normal ass people and then bam! Those subtle hints you were getting? Yeah no, fuck you, the medium is an actual medium and the antagonist is deffinantly some sort of evil soul stealer.
Im over halfway in this book, and I am shook.
