Any advice for learning how to not care that your fics don't get many comments and kudos? I know you're maybe not the best person to ask your writing is so popular but it's discouraging

First of all, I’m sorry love. That is super discouraging.

Second. My most popular fic on AO3 has 1540 comments, 2492 kudos, and almost 63,000 hits. My least popular fic has 5 comments (two of which are my own replies), 12 kudos, and 292 hits. I am incredibly lucky in my current fandom that people are interested in reading my work but that doesn’t mean everything I’ve ever written has been instantly adored. I have been the popular writer everyone is talking about and I have been the one almost no one reads. One time I got picked dead last by an artist for a fandom big bang challenge on the FOURTH round of selection and the only reason the artist got my story is because she was late to selection and it was the only one left. Otherwise my fic wouldn’t have been claimed at all.

Who does numbers on AO3 and who doesn’t is not only a matter of talent or skill, all sorts of other factors go into it too and lots of them are totally beyond the control of the author. I know it’s such a bummer to work hard on something and then feel like it’s being ignored, believe me. It’s the worst. But sometimes that’s going to happen and you’re not going to be able to control it. You have to decide if you enjoy the creative process of writing enough to keep doing it even without external validation that sometimes you’ll get and sometimes you won’t and no one is entitled to. If the answer is no, you don’t enjoy it enough to keep going without more comments, then it’s probably better to stop. But I hope you don’t. Someone is going to love your story. Just like with all types of art creation, the good part is you will feed your soul, you’ll expand your mind, you’ll put something into the world that you were passionate about. The hard part means sometimes you are going to pour your heart into something and the right people won’t find it. That doesn’t mean it isn’t valuable, and it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep creating.

i try! i'm not great about it these days because i'm really trying to distance myself from stats/interactions, but i think if someone is kind enough to leave me the comments i so desperately hope for always, then i should be kind enough to say thank you.

probably the whumptober piece i wrote once where ochaco is slowly crushed to death by rubble. oops.

most of the fics i publish have happy-ish endings, i think? i'm pretty allergic to sad or angsty ends, for the most part.

not really. i've had some folks voice their dissatisfaction, but no real hate.

nope! never have and don't really have much desire to; there are very few cases where i think this works well & i'm not confident i'd be able to pull it off.

i am not overly attached to canon ships for the most part. i will say i adore izuocha & kiribaku, and am a big time spike/faye shipper even though it always ends in tragedy.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

scent of a camellia. someone commented on it recently and i remembered how excited i was when i started it (i was still semi-popular at the time and others seemed excited for it, too, but it all fizzled out and i just don't have the motivation for longform stuff anymore).

16. What are your writing strengths?

i think my descriptions are okay!

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

not great with action and sometimes my character dialogue starts to all sound the same.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

i try to do so very sparingly if at all, and make sure the dialogue is still understandable from context (ie. the answer the character receives or something). when i do this, will typically provide a direct translation in the author's note for anyone interested.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

i posted the first chapter of my longfic (naruto) in early 2019.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

i'm very attached to my longfic. under this pseud, probably still the strength of vines. just really enjoy the concept and wish i'd been able to realize the original idea it sprang from. since i couldn't, the fic is a nice way for me to have written it out in some way.

Harry/Draco (2022, Teen and Up, 57k)

Harry was beginning to wonder if he’d ever make anything again when Malfoy stormed through the door of Harry’s furniture shop. Now Harry’s got an impossible Ministry commission to finish, and even less energy than ever to deal with his elusive muse. That is, until he stumbles upon the surreal and beautiful world of a mysterious fae creature…

"You are good. You are kind, and smart, and messy too.” He was so close, Harry could smell the pine-green heat, the smell of Spring’s first breaking, of dew in the morning and moss in the deep woods. “I know the land and I know the air. You— You are sunlight. You are rain and sky and earth. You are made of life, and you don't ever have to be more than that."

Surprising a total of 0 (zero) people Starry really went out there and decided to kill me with softness for the second year in a row, writing - once again - one of my favourite reads of the year, the nerve! Who’s that Liv who once said she wouldn’t go for T-rated long fics, I don’t know her 😂

My heart, what a masterpiece. I knew it was Starry’s right away because the evocative prose and wood artist Harry transported me immediately to A Room Up There, another personal favourite. Generous, original, immersive, magical and so very cathartic, this has Starry’s gentle energy all over. I was compromised right at the start because the first chapter has one of the best openings I’ve read recently - an absolute banger in tone and characterization, it introduces this lovely craftsman Harry, soft, anxious and edgy in his exhaustion, and a mysterious Ministry worker Draco, stern and unaffected. The antagonism and subdued tension of their first meeting gave me chills - they’re so fascinating I felt compelled to devour this fic in one go despite the easy flow and (much appreciated!) lack of cliffhangers.

The way Starry has woven together so many elements in a coherent and moving plot is beyond me. This is definitely a Drarry romance, with gorgeous slow burn and a twist I can’t really comment on, but there’s also delightful slice-of-life vibes exploring Harry’s routine and relationships with his close friends. Brace yourself for hot single dad Ron! Power duo Bill & Teddy! Ginny/Luna/Pansy the OT3 we deserve 🙌 there’s so much I adore in this universe surrounding Harry, many interesting and complex characters coming together organically and supporting him in different ways. As usual I need a minute to scream about this superb Teddy Lupin and this charming Ron Weasley, light of my life, with their vibrant personalities and genuine care for Harry, who turns to them for physical and emotional comfort (let’s not talk about my little cry reading “Big hands, a bigger heart, he was warm and close. Harry leaned into the touch.” It’s fine, I’m fine!!!!). This fic also evokes an inspiring message of political resistance and I love how it tackles the issues of creature rights as Harry and Draco come up with ways to defy the Ministry. I loved this subplot cleverly crafted within the main story, it made this fic even more powerful.

Now, I have mentioned originality and I mean it! The Dreamwalker must be one of the coolest, most inventive and brilliantly executed concepts I’ve seen in fic. I was absolutely blown away by how easily the narrative flows between Harry’s reality and those lush, vivid and engaging dreamscapes. I was so immersed learning about it all through Harry’s eyes and wonder, it gave me big Inception feels. Kudos to the evocative writing combining all the gorgeous visual details with meaningful conversations. Everything’s part of Harry’s healing journey and on that note I appreciate that the story didn’t shy away from his growing addiction to the dreams, a very clever way to explore the disturbing side of Fae magic. The lore was spectacular, creepy and seducing at once.

Lastly, the Drarry romance. My silly heart got immediately attached to this wonderful, kind and talented Harry in his aching vulnerability, but I was just as much fascinated by this layered and mysterious Draco. His tough Ministry persona crumbles apart as we realize the pressure he’s working under, only for him to show his true self to Harry (and us), treating him (and us) with such care and earnest tenderness my heart almost couldn’t take it. We all need someone like Draco in our lives and I felt really inspired by him, to be a better, caring and present friend.

This fic is, first and foremost, a love letter. Not only to Drarry but mainly to creators, artists and crafters, who are struggling with burnout and feeling defeated, uninspired, maybe even useless. This was a realistic portrayal of how devastating it feels to lose the grip on our creative muse, the very thing that gives us purpose and gets us through the mundane by making our lives extraordinary. This Harry represents so many of us feeling lost and discouraged and broken, but Starry generously mends all pieces together through Draco’s kindness, as well as some surprisingly moving scenes with side characters (Mrs. Zabini will you marry me 💍) that made my heart ache in all the right places. This fic is full of hope and understanding, it’s about love but also about friendship, self-care, resistance and the importance of fighting for political change no matter how seemingly small or unimportant.

It was cathartic to watch this jaded Harry, who struggled with lack of sleep and enthusiasm, become happy, inspired and proud of his work again. There’s a satisfying amount of emotional growth that makes the happy ending feel earned, and the Fae lore added a magical layer of surrealism that felt like a warm blanket. I wish I could do more justice to this fic but you’ll have to feel the bliss for yourself. Run don’t walk towards this gem! 💙

Words and fics

uhhhh 9,467 words written this year 🫣 I’ve got more unpublished… a lot more. Some of it is fanfic but most of it is original fiction I muse about for fun. No idea to determine the total word count alas. Overall, not a great fanfic year for me.

Total of THREE fics posted this year. The majority of those words are for the FNAF sequel I finally got around to writing. The two others fics were a Battlestar Galactica character study that came out of left field ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and a little Star Trek series of one-shots I wrote in a fit of inspiration for the mind shenanigans I’ve always wanted to see for Bones and Spock after Star Trek III.

Top Fics by Kudos

I’m going with fics posted/updated in 2023. I didn’t count Promentory in the 2023 word count because I had finished writing it way before the year was up.

Promentory is obviously in the top spot with a whopping 970 kudos. Writing that fic was crazy. Fun, but crazy XD

Love does not see with the eyes, but with the soul (the Star Trek fic) is in second with 51 kudos. More than I ever expected to get with it XD

Worth One's Weight In Gold is in third with 10 kudos and boy when I tell you I was watching for every single one of those. This is the one I was most excited about sharing.

mutualistic symbiosis is my BSG fic with 7 kudos. I think it even got a comment. Thank u my dearest reader I did not expect that and I adore u for it

Art events 2023

I joined art fight this year. I was very nervous about putting orginal characters out there but I overthought per the usual. Even though I joined late, I had a lot of fun and I hope to do it again next year!

Fic Milestone

A milestone I REALLY wanted to mention is that I passed my ten year anniversary of writing fic! Can’t believe I’ve been doing this for ten years. It’s been a journey and I loved just about everyone I’ve encountered along the way. Even if you’ve felt like you haven’t done much this year, if you’ve just left me even one comment on one of my fics, I want you to know that you make the world feel a little less lonely and I really appreciated it :)

Upcoming 2024

I’ve gotta finish posting my fnaf fic. It’s literally all written I’ve just been procrastinating.

Kudos are great and all the authors I know definitely appreciate them! I think it’s that, in comparison to someone saying “oh wow this made my day, I really liked XYZ” is SO much more impactful, especially on something we’re writing for free.

I totally know there are SO many reasons people don’t comment, from anxiety to time to just not wanting to, and all are valid. But from a writing/artist standpoint, a comment DOES usually mean a hell of a lot more, even a heart emoji or a “I loved this!”. Active vs passive interaction, or something (not quite what I mean, but it’s early for me).

Comments have motivated me and a lot of writers I know to complete fics we’d given up on. I write for myself, but there is something about knowing someone out there really got something out of a story, and took the time to let me know, that really makes me want to keep writing. Kudos just…. Doesn’t have the same effect, and why would it?

Basically anon, you don’t have to comment, and it can absolutely hurt to see authors act unappreciative over you leaving kudos. But there are def two sides, and while I adore kudos, they definitely don’t have even close to the same “impact” as a comment for most authors. No one should be a dick to you about it, but also…. An author complaining to friends on their tumblr isn’t being a dick to you directly, but voicing something that may get under their skin

I am not at all surprised that my Teen Wolf stories top the list, because that fandom is ridiculously loyal—but check it out, #1 is a RAREPAIR, Danny/Stiles!

I will say technically #2, a Sterek fantasy oneshot, has had more kudos because it was taken down in 2015 for including quotes of too many Beatles lyrics. The podfic also has its own following!

I am very proud of #3, set during the Civil War; that was a big stretch, but a fun one to write.

#4 is our first Glee story, and that's a collab with someone who's even more prolific than I am (and a much better writer).

#5 is the sequel to #1 but was only recently completed.

#6, another Glee story, is the first in a trilogy I'm very proud of, with lots of theater references and canon compliance for most of the story.

#7 is my first McDanno fic, but really hit a chord in the H50 fandom. I worked very hard to get Danny's character voice right, and it was satisfying to know I was able to achieve that.

#8 is another Teen Wolf rarepair, this time with a real horror backdrop, and that was also a good challenge for me, as I love horror fiction but had never written it.

#9 is a collab with one of my dearest friends and cowriters, @knittycat99. We always meant to continue writing the next part of the story, but life does intervene!

#10 is the first in a very adorable Puckurt fluff series.

10 of my fics I wish people would read:

The French Drop is based on the heist film Sneakers from 1992. It stars Robert Redford and Ben Kingsley. God, I love this movie, and I absolutely had to write this story, because they needed a happy ending, or as close to a happy ending as I could give them.

Auld Acquaintance is a collaborative D/s Puckurt written by myself and @beshrew-my-very-heart. It was a challenge to ourselves to see if we could write something short and complete, and we did! (Of course, we are now writing the much, much longer sequels.)

Dancing Through the Same Noise is a Glee Puckurt-to-Fuckurt patterned after an episode of How I Met Your Mother. It started light and funny and quickly got very serious. It has the advantage of having beautiful art (it was so beautiful that I purchased the original watercolored pen-and-ink sketch from the artist and had it shipped across the world to me).

So Tyrannous and Rough in Proof and A Trivial Comedy for Serious People are parts #2 and #3 of the These Magic Changes Puckurt series. I finished the series fairly recently, but I hope more Glee readers will go back and reread the whole thing, because I think it really hangs together very well.

Blue Rubber Band is a Puck-focused Puckurt AU one-shot based on a Regina Spektor song. It's about drug addiction and homelessnes, but is ultimately a hopeful story. There is also a podfic.

Gold Mine is a Glee Dave/Puck what-if story that is unbelievably sweet, sexy, and romantic—and monogamous and vanilla! I am really fond of it, mostly because canon totally supports this pairing and I think they would have been great together.

While We Got the Chance to Say is part of the enormous Glee Donutverse, but I think can be read as a stand-alone pretty well. It's a BDSM-flavored polyam love story focusing on Kurt and Adam Lambert (no, not Elliott Gilbert!). If you've ever wondered about the Donutverse and you would like to give it a try, this is a very glittery introduction.

Family First is a Glee Kurtofsky futurefic one-shot which I wrote during the two days of the 2020 election. It does deal with cancer and contains minor character death, but Dave's character arc centers around his friendship with Finn and the whole Hudson-Hummel family.

the soul slakes its thirst in fearless draught is a Finn/Dave/Kurt futurefic patterned after Cyrano DeBergerac. It is very romantic, with a smutty followup chapter.

Lucky Connection is a Dave/Finn story based on a Hallmark movie, so you can imagine just how sweet and romantic it is. There is zero smut, but a happy ending.

BONUS: the only fanvid I have ever made was completed a few weeks before Cory Monteith's untimely passing, so it is somewhat bittersweet, but I am still very proud of it.

How many words have you written this year? AO3 says 253,826. There are some words written that haven't been posted either so like, Oh god. seriously??? Though I think some of those may be coming from updates of a fic (RBME) that started in previous years but was updated this year. IDK exactly how that works.

How many works did you publish this year? 34! Of which many were short but still!

What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)? Honestly probably an unposted fic that I cant talk about yet lmao. Barring that, Beginning Where We Ended because its Very ambitious and I absolutely adore it. its the kind of fic I wanted to read (and write!) the first time I was in the FF7 fandom and finally I can do it.

What work of yours has the most hits? Beginning Where We Ended (ff7)! Which has just barely overtaken Revealed by Mirrored Eyes (rwby)

Favorite work you wrote this year? Picking favorites between my children is Difficult okay. Uhhh. Probably still the same as the last time I got a similar ask tho: Recordings for Sleeping is Up there because it's a great balance of soft and warm and I really adored it. Also beginning where we ended because time travel zakkura epic has been Fun and the story's just beginning. It was also started on an absolute whim and is my self-indulgent wip.

Favorite line/passage you wrote this year? Okay! Uh! probably this one. It's from Saving the Hero

He also didn’t comment on the fact that eventually Sephiroth’s arms wound their way around him, instead of remaining locked around Seph’s own body like they were trying to hold broken pieces of him together. But they did. His fingers found themselves in the fabric of Zack’s shirt, clinging almost as tightly. Zack let him, and simply kept his grip steady on Sephiroth. Offering comfort as he could.

And tucked there in the space between the bed and the wall, a barrier was breached between them that neither one would have ever guessed at.

Sephiroth cried.

It made Zack’s heart ache. Like everything about the Commander when he wasn’t giving orders on the battlefield, his grief was quiet. Silent tears found their way into the collar and shoulder of Zack’s uniform top. Breathy sobs made as little sound as possible, even this close to Zack’s ear. Smothered by a stranglehold that even now, Sephiroth couldn’t let go of.

Zack wondered how many times Sephiroth had been scolded for having feelings that this was the reaction he’d gotten while trying to comfort him. It renewed Zack’s desire to find Hojo and break him. But… he was needed here.

Zack didn’t know how long they stayed there between the wall and the bed anchored together. Didn’t know how long they sat in the eye of the storm that was Sephiroth’s grief. Didn’t know how long he murmured what he hoped were words of comfort and held the man while the new wave of grief bled itself out.

But finally, Sephiroth stopped.

Biggest surprise while writing this year? Biggest Surprise... honestly probably walking into the FF7 fandom and doing fanworks for it at all. If you'd told me this time last year that the vast majority of my works would be ff7 based this year I would have probably laughed. I spent ages afraid of this fandom even though I've loved the work since I was like 12. But I'm here, and I'm really glad for that!

As you wish, summersociety, fantastic writer whom I look up to and am mildly afraid of being perceived by but adore anyway 🫡 (dude I’m still freaking that you know who I am, not gonna lie LMAO)

3: What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

Definitely the beloved Christmas fic, you could call me babe for the weekend. It’s literally just self indulgent tooth rotting disgusting fluff, but I really enjoyed the way Nancy and Robin got to play off each other in this situation, and I worked very very hard on it!

4: If you use song lyrics, which artist’s songs did you pull from most?

Well out of what’s published, there aren’t any repeats, but between two WIPs and one published, I’ve got three from Conan Gray! His music is very Ronance coded, in my personal opinion. 3,245 which is absolutely UNREAL to me. I started a silly little self indulgent fic and didn’t expect anyone to actually read my writing at all and here we are. It makes me so happy (and also terrified because oh god the mortifying ordeal of being known).

 17. Your favorite character to write this year?

I honestly thought this would have been Atem ‘cause in general I just love exploring his character in narrative but I would have to say Heba has been my number 1 this year.

Looking at how fandom usually interprets this fan-character and sorta just picking him up and deciding to mess around with my own interpretation of him/his concept has been so so very rewarding and I’m endlessly happy with the character I’ve built up in my Leather and Linen story. I got so much more attached to him as a character than I ever expected to. Special little OC ;;  

 19. What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

I mean I want get my ass into gear and write some more akakuro (actually write my enemies to lovers/royalty + thief) AU cause it’s not a dynamic I’ve really explored before and I adore the character designs I have for them but haven’t touched the AU in years jkdbggsd.

But knowing me it’s gonna be more puzzleshipping lmao. Tho I would love to explore more Atem/Yugi/Mahad because poly trio my beloved.

As of answering this, AO3 says I have gotten 816 kudos which is absolutely insane so many!!! ;;;;; tho I feel like I kinda cheated given The Divine Dragon chapters were uploaded individually instead of all together given the overall collaborative format of it. As always I have to say that I'm not that good at drawing but for once idc cause I had so much fun with this!! -He happens to like outer space a lot since he would always stargaze with his grandparents

-Hence why he automatically loves any game setting in space (cue Rainbow Road being his fave course in Mario Kart)

No Thing Theo and Liam have a thing. According to everyone else, at least, they have a thing. To Theo, they have no thing. Okay, so maybe they have a thing.

Holding Onto The Memories Of Us. (I really need to work on the next chapter). Theo had to leave. He couldn't stay. It was too painful. So, he leaves. He starts over, finds friends. He's happy, kind of. But, one by one, people from his past show up. Except for the one person he wants to show up.

Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Yes. Of course, I do. I appreciate and adore each and every comment, and kudos. I don’t ever expect it, but it’s the best kind of surprise to wake up to. They always make me smile. I appreciate the comments more than I can say, and in return, I want them to know how much I appreciate them. Plus, I love talking to people and fangirling over our shared love.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Not gonna lie. I always try to have the ending hopeful. Not to say the fic itself isn’t angsty. (Again, blaming @falling-for-boys @attempted--eloquence @frustrateddumbbar and @inabottlelikelightning for my long-ass angsty faze).

But I think it would have to be a multi-chapter fic for @thecenturiestrickle : Holding Onto The Memories Of Us. The ending of the last chapter is kind of an angsty cliffhanger, I guess.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you’ve written?

No, and I don’t see myself doing any crossovers anytime soon.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Thankfully, no. I guess that comes with having only a small group of people who read my fics. I know a lot of more popular authors get hate, and I don't envy them. Getting hate on something you're proud of and worked so hard on sucks.

Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Listen… I am an INNOCENT bean, okay. I enjoy reading it. But writing smut is an area that I am NOT skilled in. So I will leave that to the professionals; thank you very much. (Writers who write smut, put into their fic’s, I applaud you).

Lol, no. I’m not at the level that gets your work translated.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

LISTEEEEN. Okay, so there’s this puppy pack fic I was writing for @falling-for-boys Which I have every intention of finishing. Eventually. Maybe. Probably.

But while I was trying to write this fic, I read all her WIPs that were never published—WHICH SHOULD BE A CRIME! THEY’RE SO GOOD. But I’ve read them, so I’m cool with it. They were very angst heavy. It was also around the time a lot of my favourite authors were bring out Angsty fics. I HAD A LOT OF EMOTIONS. None of them the right tone for my crack, humorous, puppy pack fic. I literally couldn’t write it. Maybe now I’m in a lighter, happier mindset, I can finish it. Maybe. Possibly.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I used to respond to each and every one, once upon a time, but the sheer volume of notes and real life all conspired to render me the person who doesn't respond to any. But I adore reading each of them.

6. A fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending

Ummm... there are quite a few Sanctuary fics that deal with grief and loss, but those are more sad than angsty. So Close (a Stargate SG-1 fic) is pretty angsty.

8. Ever received hate on a fic?

Yes, actually. I wrote a Pacific Rim/Stargate SG-1 story that didn't have any romantic content, but the protags were drift compatible, so I tagged them as a ship, and the lack of romance had people PISSED. But-- they're drift compatible?? It was everything but the smooch.

Sure do!

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Someone once notified me that there was a fic with a VERY similar first chapter to my NCIS: Apocalypse story. Like, it was very clear that they had basically taken my chapter and then rewritten it *just* enough to get past the censors or whatever. I reported it to FF.net at the time and they were like, ehhhhhh we can see what you mean, but we can't really do anything about it, because it's just different enough to be okay. So nothing was done about it. Which is fine. I'm flattered now, and recognize that they were probably just a new writer, and not actually meaning anything malicious by it.

11. Ever had a fic translated?

No. I've had a couple requests, but I'm nervous about not being able to control the output, so I've always declined.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic?

No, but I've done a couple of fics where I've collaborated with artists, which is a really fantastic process and I love it.

13. All time fav ship?

Sam/Jack from Stargate SG-1. If you want a crash course on how to do a will-they/won't-they ship, this is it. My god. I could go on for ages.

14. WIP you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

There's a Stargate SG-1 sequel to Among the Stars that I've written pieces of that I may eventually share, but at this point it is unlikely I'll ever write it as a story. Just the scope of it is so large, as it spans the entire 10-season series, I don't think I'll ever have the time or brainpower to get it done. I'm so sorry, because it would have been awesome.

15. Writing strengths?

Ummmmm... I'm horrible at writing about my good points. Maybe characterization? I also have a knack for really capturing images I have in my head. Like... that beginning scene of The Day Kara Danvers Died-- one of my crowning moments. I still have a visceral reaction when I re-read it.

16. Writing weaknesses?

Commitment. Time. It's way too easy for me to cut corners in order to get the instant feedback of my tumblr posts.

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I don't know if I've ever tried it. Italics are a good way to indicate you're switching languages without actually switching languages. But if you actually write in actual different languages, you better get it right or else your readers who read that language are going to know.

18. First fandom you wrote for?

NCIS. Actually. That's a lie. My first was for CSI, but I never posted it anywhere because it was garbage. I was trying to right a casefic before I even knew how to write a regular story, so I was way out of my depth.

Making Waves is my fave Supergirl story. Beyond the Stars is my fave Stargate SG-1 story, I think (which I've just noticed is not on ao3, oops), Something More is probably my fave NCIS story, and it's impossible for me to choose a fave Sanctuary story, I love them all. :)
