Okay after reading your Chandler post I've decided I need a movie musical like they did with mean girls but less bad and also more of a combination of every iteration of the show and the original movie.

I think musical movie Chandler should have a scene similar to the bathroom one from the movie, while also adding the elements you talked about in your post as well as keeping in some of those original more mean spirited lines they cut from west end while changing the tone to a more friendly/teasing one in certain scenarios.

As for JD I think they should keep the emphasis on his tragic backstop and make him sympathetic while also keeping in the original version of Blue, as I personally still like the way that was handled in the off broadway production more. Idk, my ideal version of JD is one where we see him the way Veronica does but with more clear eyes if that makes sense??

First off, I love the new Mean Girls and will not stand for this slander.

Secondly, I would recommend actually watching West End Heathers, and specifically the revival, (I have several bootlegs, as well as the proshot, if you need any), before analyzing things too much. There’s a lot there, and, frankly, going back to the 2014 production after getting used to the newer one makes the older version feel laughably unpolished.

I do agree that the loss of the bathroom scene (an annoying term, since Mean Girls also has an important bathroom scene which serves a similar function, but I knew what you meant) is unfortunate, but I don’t think it’d work in an adaptation of the musical; it would drag the tone so far down that I think it’d be very difficult to make Dead Girl Walking work.

Movie Chandler has to be tragic prior to her death because she doesn’t appear after it. That, combined with the more blatantly villainous nature of movie JD, lets the party feel like a “nobody wins” situation. In the musical, though, Veronica definitively loses, which is why DGW works. Then, we have many scenes of Chandler after her death in which to establish her depth and the tragedy of her death. This works better for the musical, because this way the audience’s shifting opinion on JD can mirror Veronica’s, whereas in the movie it’s obvious he’s awful from his first scene.

Love the new fic! Sorry if you mentioned it somewhere before, but by the end of chapter 2, which songs have they rehearsed together? Did they have to kiss on stage or do the dead girl walking choreography yet?

God I love the questions y'all have for this btw. By the end of chapter 2, they've rehearsed the entire show several times and yes, kind of kissed! Basically, none of JD and Veronica's kisses have to be real kisses and they could easily be a quick press not even really aimed (especially during Dead Girl Walking, they're all over each other and the way Veronica grabs his face can block the audience from actually seeing if their mouths connect) so they're kind of kissing but it's not at all as detailed(? I guess) as a "real" kiss would be. As they practice the show more (especially after the talk) the kisses get more convincing but they're still not trying to actually kiss, just do choreo, and there's a distinct difference.

Btw, kisses in the show:

.2: Veronica gets up close and fantasizes about making out with JD during Fight For Me when the entire stage except for her is frozen in time. Their mouths are like one inch apart as Veronica croons to him and runs her hand down his arm. 2.2: Two (well, two separate times, there's kind of a flurry of kisses in each) kisses during DGW 2.35: Almost kiss in Heather Chandler's kitchen before The Me Inside Of Me but are interrupted by Heather yelling (again, like two inches apart). 3.35: Kiss after the line "We'll raise our city here" in Our Love Is God 3.4: JD tries to kiss her cheek from behind after the funeral but she puts a hand up and he walks away. 5.4: Kisses during Seventeen before the bridge and again at the end of the song. 6.4: Kiss in the scene after Shine A Light 6.5: JD actually kisses her cheek again somewhere in Act II but I can't remember when it happens now lmao. She doesn't raise her hand again but it's not sweet because at that point she's in the "you're a murderer" camp

Yes all those almost kisses and cheek kiss add up to half a kiss to Catra.

I'm trying not to get super in the weeds on the show plot unless it's relevant to a specific scene (DGW, the YW scene, the croquet scene, etc are all going to feature prominently in their own chapters and I don't want to get repetitive), but though they both had to psych themselves up internally for the kisses in practice (before it became more routine), they were trying to be professional about it. As unprofessional as they are with each other, I also didn't want to do a scene dedicated to that like theater people can't just kiss for their job and have it not be weird (this wasn't Catra and Adora's first time kissing, lol, they had done it during acting exercises before). I've seen actors talk about how viewers are always assuming and looking for some backstage romance between lead actors when in reality that shit happens between someone in the ensemble and the lighting guy they never have to interact with for the show.

That saaaaaaid. Weird how natural it becomes kissing Catra every night 🤔 Wonder if that could have any consequences.

Most of these roles came to me very quickly. I knew immediately that Platy would be Heather C and that I wanted Zeroyalchaos to be JD/Veronica. However, deciding who should be who was tricky.

Ultimately, I decided that I would rather see Ze sing Ment to be Yours instead of Dead Girl Walking. Chilled's vibe fit better with Dgw anyway.

A contrast I find really interesting between Off Broadway Heathers and UK Heathers is the difference in Veronica’s motivation in taking the bomb and her actions between DGW reprise and I Am Damaged.

In the Off Broadway version, Veronica is shown as actively suicidal. I mean she has the line “dear diary, the irony here is that I never got the chance to write my own suicide note” (which, side note, I am so mad that they cut). Her holding onto the bomb is painted less as something she has to do because she won’t make it back in time and more as her in that moment genuinely wanting to die. JD even points out that she’ll die if she keeps holding onto it but her response is “I don’t deserve to live”*, echoing her declaration in DGW reprise. Even when JD tries to take it off her, her only response is “get away from me” which doesn’t do anything to imply otherwise. In a weird way, the first few lines of I Am Damaged could almost be read as him talking her off the ledge, so to speak. It’s only when Veronica realises she can’t stop him that she lets him take it.

Meanwhile, the West End version portrays Veronica as dying for her beliefs, but not because she wants to die. She even says as much, “I guess that’s a belief I’m willing to die for”. Furthermore, they explicitly show her hurting her ankle in the fight in the boiler room and JD tells her “you’ll never make it, not on that ankle”. So her keeping holding the bomb is portrayed more as a tragic consequence of those circumstances rather than because she doesn’t want to live. Finally when JD tries to take it off her, she says no because she thinks he’s tricking her, not because she doesn’t want to live. 

If I had to summarise the difference, I’d say Off Bway!Veronica wanted to die because she hated herself, WE!Veronica wanted to die so that other people to live. Yes, the West End version still has the line “no-one here deserves to die, except for me and the monster I created”, but combined with the changed lines it again comes off more as dying for her beliefs than her being suicidal.

I think it’s an interesting contrast and I really want to know why they changed it. I personally prefer the Off Bway version, mainly because I feel like the changes contribute to the sanitising and Mary Sue-ification that the West End production did for Veronica. The West End makes her into an almost martyr, but in the Off Bway version, you see just what a messy and struggling character she really is. 

*And after she says this, JD replies “I respectfully... disagree”. Which I am very annoyed that they cut, because it’s a fantastic exchange.

OK so i saw a couple of trending dramas, here are my reviews on them hihi :)

Strong girl nam soon = ... wtf was that drama. Dgw, I love love my girl yoomi, but boy did her character make me wanna whack her ass back to Mongolia. Ik the directors tried to make her quote quirky unquote. But they missed the mark by a couple thousand miles, she's more of an airhead than a quirky, bubbly girl. I hate, hate the characters sm in the drama, they're all so.... one dimensional. Probably that's why many are defending shi-o or were rooting for him, cause he's the only one with some depth to his character. Half the scenes with ML and namsoon were so ... weird. It all felt so forced, there was no pining like its super iconic predecessor strong woman do bongsoon, there were no iconic scenes like minhyuk melting into a puddle when bongsoon called him min min or gokdu's tsundere antics, this drama gave nothing. And why bother calling it strong girl nam soon when half the entire drama revolved around her mother's weird ass obsession with being a messiah and the grandmother's cringey love story. It's sad to see such talent get wasted on a script that looked like a newborn had written it. 4/10 would not recommend.

Business proposal = ikik this drama isn't 'trending' perse but it still is quite highly talked about. And I'm glad I checked it out, the chemistry between seol in-ah and minkyu was JS8W8SOQ8SJQKA91828SIW lmao and ahn hyeon seop nailed the role. Such a lighthearted and fun drama, sejeong's quirky-ness was adorable and funny, I still giggle whenever I remember 'Rachel and samantha'. I was a bit worried that they'll go on a an entire tangent on the ceo's back story, but I'm glad they didn't and kept it light and fun but also simultaneously giving the ceo closure and comfort. 7/10 would recommend because I'm scared of the archeopteryx

Twinkling watermelon = wtf was that drama pt 2. But In a good way. It scared me so deeply but also applied ointment and gave me a hug. Such a comforting drama. No drama could ever make me cry on the second episode but guess what, twinkling watermelon did that. I was bawling throughout, but also laughed, and cooed because the chemistry between eomma and appa was adorable! No wonder they love each other sm, they've been thru so much. :(((( as someone who's worried about my youth slipping away, I found immense comfort in that drama. And how eun ho said something along the lines of, "enjoy your youth, it's the only time you'll twinkle. You don't have to be worried about me sk much, I'll find my way, it's my life after all" >>>>> and the ending when the music master said, "to you and to everyone you wish to protect, viva la vida, long live life" I'm never getting over that drama. Although I did find seol's character a bit annoying in the beginning because she wasn't letting eomma and appa meet but then I fell for her too lol. What a cutie. 9/10 would recommend to everyone till the time I'm blocked by them.

My demon = the newly trending song Kang drama was quite fun to see, although only 2 eps are out, I'm invested lol. I've always been a huge fan of Kang since I saw him in sweet home. And yoojung is practically my wife. The chemistry was off the roof, the visuals, the tension, the acting, the humor >>>>>> 8/10 I'm excited to see how this drama will unfold. I've a lot of expectations.

(heathers x bmc headcanon) ok so imagine if

in heathers, specifically dead girl walking, Veronica says "better chug that mountain dew". in be more chill, mountain dew green activates your SQUIP. so, JD's squip activated, that's why after dgw he started displaying more of the psychopath tendencies. there's more evidence though. for instance, a lot of people, including myself don't know why he says ow in dgw. some people think Veronica broke his dick, which, valid, but it could be his SQUIP activating and the reason he didn't scream and freak out like Jeremy is because he is so used to feeling pain that the SQUIP is like nothing. another bit of evidence i have is JD was so willing to die in the end. yes, this could be him realizing everything he did was wrong and that he wants life to be over, which is definitely true. BUT we also know that Rich set fire to Jake's house because he was trying to kill the SQUIP, so JD might've been so consumed by the wintergreen tic tac that that just furthered his want to end it.

Veronica- Kala, because she's a great belter and has an awesome voice (if you saw her on the voice and on tiktok you know), her understudy would probably be Shannen, because they have amazing riffs. Parr and Veronica are quite alike, and seeing Vidya or anyone else perform DGW would be amazing. I think many of the six cast would perform Veronica extremely well.

Jd- female Jd's are the best, I saw one on tiktok and I loved it, I would think Karis would fit the role quite well, because her singing meant to be yours or freeze your brain would be amazing

Heather Chandler- Phoenix, I love how her voice sounds, and I think aragon and chandler are quite alike, and are both sassy and own the place.

Heather Mac- Chelsea would capture both her innocence and vulnerability and as well as her being a bully, I really like her accent as well. Chiara could be her understudy, I never seen her perform (nor any of these queens so just the megasixs and slimes) but she seems like she would portray her in a cutesy way

Heather Duke- I would die to see Kiana perform never shut up again or shine a light reprise for some reason, cleves and duke both have chaotic sassy energy so yes

Ms Fleming- I am in love with loren's voice, and both have quite chaotic energy. loren would 100% slay shine a light no doubt. Ms Fleming and Jane are both mature yet have their goofy moments.
