I—okay. Listen. Do I run around a lot in this game? Yes. Do I spend an unnatural amount of time looking for RP locations that perfectly match a scene I'm looking for? Probably. But over the course of years, I've found some pretty cool spots. And I'm going to share them with you!
Maybe you'll find inspiration to start something new in these areas, or maybe it'll help scratch an itch for a scene you've been wanting to do. Who knows! Just take them!
Also, these are locations found outside of major cities and aetherytes. This list is for people who want to get out into the overworld and away from crowds! (I’ve also tried to find places that are free of hostile mobs, NPCs, and FATEs.
I’ll likely make more posts for other zones, but the three starter regions are accessible for characters of all levels, and a good place to start!
Locations under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LONE CAMPSITE - Middle La Noscea - X25, Y23 A single, simple campfire surrounded by a few crates and barrels. I think an NPC appears here for one specific quest, but otherwise it's empty! It’s not near any civilization, although you can see Limsa on the other side of the map.
Tumblr media
HIDDEN PIRATE SHIP - Western La Noscea - X10, Y18 A really cool ship hidden deep in the La Noscean map, which only became available once they added flight to older areas. You can land on the ship and the walkways that surround it. It’s really a unique and outstanding spot!
Tumblr media
HOUSE @ OSCHON'S TORCH - Lower La Noscea - X23, Y39 You can't enter the lighthouse on the hill (unfortunately), but you can go into the small house in front. It has a nice garden in the yard, and the interior is fairly simple and NPC-free.
Tumblr media
WAREHOUSE @ RED ROOSTER STEAD - Lower La Noscea - X31, Y21 I don't know why SE made this, to be honest. I've never seen a quest lead here. Nothing spawns, it just exists. Which is great! I wish they did this more. Anyway, it's a warehouse at Red Rooster Stead. A door in a cliffside, full of supplies and a table with chairs, and nothing else.
Tumblr media
PAVILLION @ CANDLEKEEP QUAY  - Lower La Noscea - X19, Y38 Previously inaccessible due to a gate blocking you off the pier, you can now fly over to this spot! This location is beautiful, especially at sunset, but unfortunately nothing is interactable. Unless you’re fine with /groundsit, you can't even sit on the chairs. But still, a quiet and interesting spot to meet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOUSE @ THE SILVER BAZAAR - Western Thanalan - X17, 30 All of the buildings in the Silver Bazaar are great! This one is fantastic. It's completely empty inside and outside (except for a couple ambient NPCs on the railing up top). There’s a table and chairs under the awning outside, too.
Tumblr media
DESERT RUINS - Southern Thanalan - X19, Y17 There are a lot of nice ruins in the Thanalans, but this one in particular has a lot of potential. The only mobs around are some passive fire sprites, and there's an unopened chest in the back amidst all the crates and jars. Environmental storytelling!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TAVERN @ CAMP DRYBONE - Eastern Thanalan - X13, Y24 I know I said I would make this list outside of major aetheryte areas, but this is the one exception I'll make. Only because it has no business being this good. Every chair at every table is available! It's a wonder!! A very nice little tavern.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOUSE @ THE GOLDEN BAZAAR - Eastern Thanalan - X10, Y16 The Golden Bazaar, like the Silver Bazaar, is all very useful. But there's one house in particular that is better than the others. This interior is big and extravagant and empty: three things we don't get very often in overworld locales!
Tumblr media
CRESCENT COVE - Western Thanalan - X15, Y17 If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: I love Crescent Cove. Every building is accessible! And although there are NPCs around, it's a fairly large area to work with. I’ve both led and participated in a lot of great plot events here. I like it a lot!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
LILYSTONE - Central Shroud - X28, Y30 A simple tent with a campfire in front, located next to a river. There are some low level aggressive mobs (level 11), but no NPCs or FATEs. I believe there's an early level quest around here, but I almost never see anyone. A neat campsite!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SWEETBLOOM PIER - East Shroud - X10, Y22 This location is found immediately after you take the boat from Gridania to East Shroud. Most people just run right past it and head through the gates, but if you turn around, there are two buildings here! One is a grocer of some kind, and the other is a storage room. There are a couple NPCs, but nothing too intrusive.
Tumblr media
SPRIGGAN DIG - Central Shroud - X11, Y16 (Underground) Sometimes, when you're setting a scene, all you want is a simple cave. Just one simple darn cave. This spot provides! There are 2-3 caves to choose from, although each one contains at least one hostile mob and a patrolling golem (level 43). We take what we can get.
Tumblr media
SPIRITHOLD - Central Shroud - X26, Y25 This spot is great for its spooky ambience or for a dungeon/prison location. There are six small, empty jail cells against the walls. Just some small level mobs (level 9) wandering around, too.
Tumblr media
That’s it! I have several more, but I trimmed them out due to them being either fairly common knowledge (ie, Buscarron’s Druthers, Hermit’s Hovel) or just too many mobs cluttering the field. However! If you’re interested in more, let me know somehow, and maybe I’ll make a Part 2!
Until then, I’ll very likely follow up with more zones. I like exploring quite a lot.

Not to rant about a very flawed game but Yosuke Hanamura's struggle is more than just "i am bored", his boredom isn't just bc he was stucked in a town in the middle of the nowhere, but bc he felt lonely and treated like trash by lots of people. In his social link number 9, he starts talking about how he felt about Inaba and how he loves It now "this town i hated so much? Now i love It, there's still nothing in here but i have family, friends and you" making it more clear, and another thing is when he talks about Konishi.
The reason why he got attached to her was bc he made him feel like he had someone and realize he should care less about what people think of him, and even if It wasn't genuine, she never openly judged him, like if he didn't felt fully lonely thanks to her, he always wanted to be "special" to someone, that's why he wanted her to give him a chance, to know her better, all of this was more like finding a place where he could feel a sense of belonging, he couldn't feel a sense of belonging at first in inaba bc he felt *lonely*.
His attachement towards Yu/Souji, is smth extremely similar to his relathionship with Konishi, i would say he did even more for Yosuke than Konishi did, he didn't only saw his real struggles and did everything to keep him safe from them but he also actually finds him likeable and the only one in the team (except maybe Teddie?) That tolerates him, he feels safe and comfortable with him, and it's shown multiple, how he tells him he doesn't need to be the funny clown of the group when he's alone with him, he can be just Yosuke (and then some people say him liking Yu would make no sense smh).
And my issue with Yosuke's character is similar to what happends to how the girls treats Naoto or how Yosuke himself treats Kanji, the team barely tolerates him, he's only truly close to Yu and he barely opens up, as well as getting constanly insulted, you may say he can be an ass too and you are right, but this doesn't justificate some of your friends (ehemCH*Eehem) telling to your face how unlikeable you are and how no one would likes you, when your character main conflict is about how you act happy and carefree bc you are afraid of being alone, that people would abandon you for your personality. Persona 4 has the tendency of not taking seriously his entire main cast after they accepted their shadows and that's a big problem

The Abyssborn Part 7: Balmoral
Tumblr media
Balmoral is strange in almost the opposite sense. As in his parents have gamed his Harbinger status to the point it has basically fucked him up as an entity. Balmoral is the child of an Abyssborn and a fae, Faolan. Balmoral himself does not know much about this Abyssborn other than they were tricked into the Abyss--in this case that is this huge, immensely deep pit underneath the castle in the Citadel and had been forgotten there. And that they are his parent. So they are pretty nonentity to him.
So it focuses towards his mother, Faolan. She was a fae from the outer settlements of the Unseelie that were often ignored by the Citadel. Being partial ban-sith (or banshee), Faolan was gifted with clairvoyance and this was a gift she did pass to Balmoral. She, with the blessings from her home, had set out the Citadel in order to help her home and the shared vision that seers had of the strife the Unseelie was headed for.
Faolan, of course, was only one person but she was a whirlwind. Aggressive, stubborn, and unafraid, she was a thought of as a force of nature. She had gotten cooperation of several settlements, including nobles that were stationed there, before coming to the Citadel. While it took her a little time to get footing, Faolan did climb within various communities and guilds. Of course some did want to just get rid of her by assassination but found she was in tune with her aspect and could defeat those that attempted against her.
She was going to 'punch her way' through to get near the king at her restless pace. And that was concerning to some that either did not favor her or found her to be a liability. She was beautiful, she was wild and she was going to sway the Unseelie if left unhindered.
Guiare. Lobhdain. Caoidheach. Rathais. Paorach.
Names that opposed the 'Wolf of the Wastes.' Players that Faolan would never forget as they framed and accused her of treason. Monsters that insinuated and razed her home. Traitors that cast her to the Abyss. Names that Balmoral practically has engraved within his being.
Faolan had been banished/condemned to die within the Abyss. The fall into it broke much in her body. A magic array was added specifically for her in order to smite her with the use of her aspect. She well and truly had lost everything but knew she was right and knew that the Unseelie would suffer. And it was within this prison that she met the Abyssborn. They had abandoned and left to die...but to the undying...there was no end. They bonded through hate and it was within this hate that the Abyssborn offered Faolan a wish though it wasn't difficult to know what she wanted.
Balmoral knows the wish as such:
To unite this land to reach the hands long ignored. To usher the Unseelie into a prosperity I could never achieve. To cull the taint that keeps this beautiful land from its riches. To become the ruler that would do all for his kingdom. By any means will you accomplish this. For it is the reason we conceive. For it is the reason you were born, child of the starless sky.
This is the basis for Balmoral's core. It is the wish that makes his being. There are technical offshoots to this wish but this is the main beat for it. The feelings also go into this wish and this is the first part of where things go awry. This wish was made in hatred. It honestly isn't uncommon with Harbinger-bringing wishes. But it was the intensity (and loss of sanity) from BOTH parties that caused a problem. They basically poisoned Balmoral's essence before he even came to be. As a result he has traits borne from hatred. Most notable being his obsessive heart.
The Abyssborn did end up being blipped from the world a little before his birth, leaving Faolan to the birth. Despite it all, she did birth Balmoral and had done something...a bit unorthodox in a bid to ensure she could get him 'ready' for what he needs to do. She...took his heart. So this was a state of 'not quite awake but not quite asleep' to him but in reality is a state between being considered alive and functionally dead. The chrysalis that he remained in was the natural defense to his suspended life and while he could not interact with the world, didn't mean it could not interact with him.
So this is where his mother spoke to him, the chrysalis echoing her words. She spoke all the things deemed important over and over and over...and her clairvoyance helped him to see what it is she speaks of. She told him knowledge she learned from his Abyssborn parent. And this was between her ravings and laments. Occasionally he would be given it back so that he had a little time for growth and rinse and repeat for years. This is part of where Balmoral's head is not fun to a mindreader. Because that stuff is basically on repeat in his head. For years...to this day, it's still in his mind and in her voice.
His heart actually had sustained her longer than expected. And there was actually thought of her just taking it to continue on but the magical array stopped her and Balmoral hadn't developed yet to offer her too much in the way of power. So eventually Faolan had to accept where that she was passing the torch so to speak. Balmoral could not remain in this place because it is a place with no life and wasn't meant to sustain it. So with magic she learned and the strength she managed to accumulate, she teleported Balmoral out with her body to shield from the smiting that ultimately took her life (this is why she never teleported out, that level of magic being cast was insta-smite).
Balmoral actually inherited a lot personality and appearance wise from his mother. Her cunning and sharpness were definitely passed onto him and have been well-loved by Balmoral in his campaigns. While the Abyssborn blood did help, Faolan was an immense beauty and passed that to her son. She also gave him clairvoyance for him to use although at Balmoral's present, it is rather useless to him, but he did find it useful growing up before he could develop his powers and skills. While it is attributed to his Abyssborn power......a lot of what Balmoral does: his ice magic, his frightening displays of power, and mind all come from simply being a fae. He worked to be best extent of fae he can be. The only real tiding the Abyssborn blood had was influencing him to have a better nature aspect.
To which his aspect is winter and the heavens. Winter is the most tangible and commonly used of Balmoral. These are the ice constructs and frost. And the like. However when it comes to nature aspects, manifesting aspects is one thing. Cultivating all the facets of one's nature is considered the true mastery of one's nature. And that is what Balmoral does but does not tend to show it because of its destructive nature. With the aspect of winter, this isn't just snow and ice, it is also the decay and death that comes with its chill. So when vitality is being drained or it feels weaker in his presence, that is not hyperbole, Balmoral likely is literally draining someone through his aspect.
The heavens are much more abstract and harder for Balmoral to use. But they tend to fall more into how his abilities look. Such as swarms that turn into a shower of 'falling stars.' The arcs of starlight that come about from his attacks. It is also more used with affecting his presence. Such as the void that sucks other's in, stealing their attention, their words, their breath. The heavens that awe and fascinate those that witness it to help draw others in. Balmoral is studying to be better with it but at this point, they are more for showmanship or to supplement in a more subtle way. Anything more extreme....he hasn't had reason to display that yet.
Of course Balmoral presents an inherent risk of mastering his nature with the threat of reversion that hangs over him. This was more poked at when he was a teenager as he accidentally froze things and basically his power 'spilling' frequently. It used to be a source of embarrassment for Balmoral, as some view it as him losing his control and would 'revert' at any time. However considering where he is now that isn't true. At this point, it's now just terrifying because the scale his power can creep without his conscious thought. It used to only span the space of like a bed or a tent or two at most. By his current age, he can take nearly a whole wing.
Reversion is a threat technically even if Balmoral doesn't verbally acknowledge it. He actually does have contingency if it were to fall but of course most normal folks do not know of this. These are left to his generals for execution in his absence. He had nearly lost himself to it during the Unification Campaign and only pulled back because of Mhoirbheinn's intervention.

MAWS is a good idea for a show with obviously talented artists and scriptwriters, but it felt aggressively stunted. Scenes always felt like they just Happened as fast as they could, animation jolts about all janky half the time, and motivations always feel incredibly sudden. It's a seemingly great show MASSIVELY held back in production by too-short episodes and a too-low budget.
