It's been more than 20 years and for some reason I feel that Gosho hasn't given Kaiao any development, how can more than 20 years pass and Aoko dynamics, relationship and feelings remain the same? At this point I feel like Gosho is just going to make them date because "they already liked each other" they remain in the same status quo
Hey, if we go by DC romance progress, they've been going too fast. We've already had suspicion of identity chapters, and that didn't happen until more than 400 chapters in DC. /j
Since heists have taken over any character development recently, I don't even know if Kaito and Aoko will even get any romantic progress. Maybe the actual identity confrontation will happen down the line, since that's thief drama, but atm, it really wouldn't surprise me if they only ask each other on a real date at the very end of the manga.
Like. I'm sure Gosho would love to make MK a love drama as well, but he writes MK so rarely, and usually as hype for something Kid related in other media. So the MK stories tend to be heavy on drama that can only take place at Kid heists. (To the point that the new chapters just. Use Kid as the plot device to show off a new character. Even Hakuba's never gotten so much 'look at this character being a detective' treatment in MK.)
-sighs- I just feel bad for MK as a series at this point. I like the characters, I like the general story idea, but. It's been going down a very steep hill with Gosho wanting things exciting, but not wanting any real progress in. Anything. But unlike old MK, the new stories aren't even nice standalone setpieces of story, they're... mundane. They could be high stakes, if you purely look at the scenarios on paper, but. We all know nothing's gonna happen to Kid. Nothing even happens to him when the actual bad guys show up, much less one-time antagonists.
We need actual character focus and development, not heist drama. Badly. Not even romance, though that'd be a nice change. Just any character expansion of our limited cast of characters. Gosho wants big, all the time, meaningless big stuff, when small would be so nice.

i love driftrod so much man. they really are everything to each other. like, i am a multishipper okay, so i do enjoy most ships/relationships/pairings etc whatever. i do like other ships involving drift and rod of course but there's something about driftrod that ugh. it gets me. they're best friends they're boyfriends they're fuck buddies they're idiots in love they're bros they're sugar daddy and baby they're partners in crime they're sparkmates (soulmates) they're girlfailures together they're married they're everything. seriously. they have the range. i bet they learnt between them how to kiss and probably how to interface. they trust and rely on each other so much. rod cares so much about drift's opinion and trusts his judgement. they want to impress each other so much. drift bought the lost light ship and gifted it to rod. the fucking ship man. i bet they keep count of their kills like a game and annoy each other when one had more kills than the other. drift spends so much time in rod's quarters. he took the blame for the overlord incident (either for rod or for the crew he still saved rod at the moment, and later rod took responsibility for it). i haven't finished mtmte/ll but i have printed on my brain that panel where rod says to drift 'i don't trust myself with words but you taught me there are many ways to speak to someone. read my aura, listen to my voice's timbre, look into my eyes. that way you'll understand how bad i feel and how badly i want things to be as they were.' man stop you're killing me. they seriously have everything. fluff smut angst etc. they love each other so much and they're beyond the romantic/platonic/etc planes. my brain chemistry has changed bc of them

And another chapter released! This and the next chapter are sort of a part 1 & 2, but they needed to be split up for... reasons that should be apparent 😈
If you've not been following along so far, this fic is an AU set in an undefined Hermitcraft season post 1.19, and Gem might be a little mind controlled at the moment, kidnapping the other Hermits to seal away in another dimension. If you'd like to read from the start, see here!
I'm gon' give it to ya - Chapter 6
6. Fool Me Twice...
Fandom/Collection: Hermitcraft/@hermitgang-ao3
Words: 1037 of 12723 so far
Summary: (Part 1/2) Gem enchants another item. It doesn't go well.
Preview:
The spiral staircase seemed taller than usual, or at the very least it took much longer to climb. Gem definitely wasn't worried about reaching the top. Not at all nervous with how coolly Pearl had received her gift yesterday, again avoiding putting it on before Gem felt she had outstayed her welcome, just like with xB. And she definitely wasn't concerned at all by the previous day's failure.
No, her magics were strong, thanks to her master. She definitely got the enchantment right this time. Yesterday was an anomaly that would not be repeated!
And hopefully Keralis would be an easier target anyway. The question had been more "what to make" rather than "would he wear it". After a serious amount of brainstorming, the only thing she'd been able to come up with was a cap to protect those large, bulging eyes of his. Though again, it was Keralis. He'd probably try anything she'd throw at him if she asked nicely enough. And she could ask very nicely.
The enchanter finally rounded into view, its gentle thrum pulsing through her head as the levels inside her buzzed resonantly with it. She itched absentmindedly at her arms as the levels tingled against her skin. She'd made sure to get extra this time, just to be safe. Not that she needed to be safe. Her magic was perfectly good, after all.
"Everything alright, Gem?" asked Ren, looking genuinely concerned from his position shackled on the floor.
"Of course I'm alright," she said, forcing her usual friendly smile onto her face. "Here's your carrot."
Ren caught the lobbed vegetable but set it aside. "I believe in you Gem. I know you're in there. I know you can do it."
"Of course I can do it. Yesterday was a pure anomaly. I won't fail again."
"You know that's not what I meant."
She reached down and placed the hat upon the table, pricking her finger with the quill. The levels buzzed harder, threatening to break out of her body. She squeezed her hands into fists, breathing deeply to stabilise the power within her. All she needed was 30 seconds to write the enchantment and they'd be gone.
