I love the ways that the Frankenstein novel subtly questions the unquestionable elements of godhood and creation simply by putting a human in the role. The Creature demands that Victor create him a wife and give her to him, like God created Eve specifically for Adam’s loneliness.

Having Victor question whether a second creation would want the purpose she’s created for underhandedly asks: what if Eve didn’t want to be given to Adam?

It would definitely track with all the explorations of the trauma of motherhood and the mother’s role that Shelley seems to be processing through the story. What if the mother of all humanity didn’t want to be a mother?

I think we overlook the Green Festival a lot when talking in lore discourse— or anything, really.

Like, Techno wasn’t the Butcher Army’s only target. The festival was designed to kill Dream permanently, hence The Green Festival. Even worse is that they told him that the festival was made in his honor. They exploited L’manburg’s “no armor” policy, intending to use Dream’s dedication in following that rule against him. They decorated the streets and set up carnival games to lure Dream to his death. Games to brutally murder him once and for all.

Now I just wonder if he knew at all or if the timing just happened to line up. ‘Cause he would’ve died that day if he hadn’t blown up the community house.

I think it’s funny and interesting what Lariel and Zrise’s parents would think of their choices in partners.

For Lariel

Her mother hates that she rejected HER pick. It’s not a ‘none of these men are good enough’ it’s much more a ‘this reflects poorly on me’ or ‘It’s so sad and pathetic that you’ve stooped so low’ or ’I pity you if that’s what you think you want’ She’d hate them all. Passive aggressively put them down. Or just insult them to their face depending on the person.

Only exception is if they are from an EXTREMELY wealthy or high nobility family (not really common for Lariel tbh not what she’s looking for lmao)

Her father (biological not step) would have much more complex reactions based on WHO the person was but it would be greatly decided by guilt. Does he think of this guy as a fuck up? A stand up guy? Mostly it’s gonna be about how much of himself he sees in him. The more scoundrel types are going to make him weary sigh, ‘Men like that have wandering eyes and wandering hearts. And you’re a good girl. You deserve a good man…’ He himself a criminal. Knowing his job kept him away from home… where he cheated on his future wife. He’s a better man now but… he doesn’t want Lariel to get her heart broken.

For Zrise. Get ready this one sucks.

His mother. WOOF considering his type. If they have ANY whiff of a similarity with her. She’s on that like a bloodhound. Saying some weird and uncomfortable shit. She’s very narcissistic so she will think it’s a compliment to say something like, ‘He’s in love with you because you remind him of me!’ 🥰

Zrise will hate that and will try to prove her wrong. Pointing out differences. Depending on how his partner reacts can drastically change how she treats them moving forward. Zrise is a little bit her pathetic meow meow trouble child and her baby boy. Tool and weapon. (Because he tries so hard to please her/get her attention) She will do the ‘we should get tea!’ And try to get all that attention for herself. Partner is her new interest!

His father. (biological not step) Their relationship (if it ever gets to form) is not good. Depending on who Zrise is with. If they are ‘good’ or ‘bad’ for him. Do they bring out his temper or soothe him? If they are bad for him he’d be a little defeated. Recognizing his old temper in Zrise. Seeing his son go down a path of unhappiness and destruction and blame himself for not being there. If they are good for him he’d encourage Zrise to ‘keep them around’ LMAO

Point of note.

Lariel would NOT want to introduce her partner to her mother. Really under any circumstances. But will if she must (like if they somehow run into her). Would happily consider and introduction to her father.

Zrise (if he hasn’t killed her LMAO) would really deeply consider someone meeting his mom if he was seriously seriously in love with them. In his mind it’s a requirement they meet. Even if he doesn’t express this straight forwardly. Doesn’t mean she has to like them. He doesn’t actually care if his mother hates or loves them. Would NEVER consider introducing them to his father.
