so earlier I opened a soda and it started slowly bubbling and almost fizzing up so I was confused and my mom was telling me to "suck it" (slurp the drink from the top so it didn't overflow) and I said "it's freaking me out" and she went "it always freaks you out the first time, just suck it" and my whole family was losing it so I managed to get this video

Quick Toughts - Phantom of the Opera - Broadway - March 6, 2023

The main trio was Laird Mackintosh, Julia Udine and Paul Adam Schafer

For those unaware, this performance was Laird’s last day with the Broadway company and his last performance as the Phantom. 

Every time I see Nehal Joshi’s Andre I just appreciate new details of his performance. Like he awkwardly bump into Meg during Hannibal Rehearsal on two separate occasions and then after the number was over he had a conversation with Meg (presumably to apologize). When Andre is introduced to the company, he gives a courtly little bow. I truly love those details.

Okay, I’m not gonna talk about anyone else now. The rest of this post is going to exclusively focus on Larid. 

There is an old school quality to the way he moves. There is an inherent graceful, yet somewhat non-human about the way he moves.

The way he said the first ‘sing for me’ during the title song??? It was so deep and resonant. It made me sit up straighter in my seat. 

The intense eye contact with Christine during “I have brought you’ only for him to break it during the ‘my music’ bit.

The man was vocally batting 1000 on this performance.

The way Laird’s Phantom would flinch when Julia’s Christine got close to him (right before the line ‘turn your face away’ and a second one!!!! right before the line ‘let the dream begin’).

Laird may have the fastest STYDI crawl I’ve ever seen? It was so unsettling, like he didn’t have any control of his limbs (but also somehow he did?

“a ToAD, madam? Perhaps... it is you... who are ... the toad.”

The quiet, whispered “stop” when Raoul and Christine are singing during All I Ask of You reprise hurt.

When the Phantom pops out in ‘Before the Performance’ scene, Laird knocked over the little table (maybe another chair?) that was in box 5 lol.

I think Laird’s Phantom wanted to go in for a kiss during the proposal. The way Julia’s Christine unmaksed him you know she did it to make him stop.

Laird get really in Julia’s face, shoving his deformed side during the line ‘an eternity of this...’

Oh god, his Phantom got so sad when Raoul said the line ‘why make her lie to you...” almost like he truly hated himself for what he was doing and was about to just about to let them go but them Julia’s Christine reaches out to touch his back and his resolve just hardens. The way he then just tossed away the veil he had been clutching was almost cold-hearted.

The ring return hurt. He is so happy for a moment. When Christine breaks her hand from his grasp, he lets out a sharp gasp of pain. When he finally lets out a second I love you, Christine is long gone and Laird said it in such a child-like way.

When Raoul and Christine are sailing away, singing, Laird’s Phantom almost relaxes, when he hears Christine sing.

I’m used to Ben’s Phantom singing the final line to the audience, so Laird directing the first half of that iconic line to the disappearing figures of Raoul and Christine was a nice old-school touch.

I did cry, but surprisingly at the line “it’s over now...” I think it really just hit me that Phantom really is closing and I am rapidly approaching my final visit :(

The Chain’s Master List’s Links Have Been Updated

It has been brought to my attention that some links in the Master List of my fancomic “The Chain” weren’t working properly, particularly entries 43 to 45. They have been updated to work so that they open without leaving the Tumblr phone app, and they should function on a computer hopefully. Same with the transcripts. Unfortunately, I can’t edit links within the posts themselves from my phone, so the “Next” and “Transcript” links may not work there, but they do open from the Master List, which should be reachable from every entry in addition to being pinned on my blog. Once I access my laptop, I’ll get to work on updating those links, too.

#ugh goodness #that was a pretty arduous process I tell you what #it was so strange #I think it had something to do with that specific time period when I made those posts where the links were weird #they would try to open in a web browser on my phone rather than within the Tumblr app which I always thought was goofy #sucks because I believe the majority of the transcripts were made during that time period so NONE OF THEM were functioning after #it was brought to my attention #so I had to update ALL of them. my hand aches… 😭 #darn it Tumblr!

BUT dude i had an old reoccurring dream that i haven’t had in years but like. the time had passed in it too. We were in a theatre watching the grammys or something and i did get bullied for being trans by one of the actors who were? just in the crowd? really hard. but anyway the part that matters is after there was a part like a walk through zoo with all kinds of different animals like gorillas and demons and shit but then we got to the owner and it was the son and he was so fucking old and he was like it’s been so long . You never came. my mom is in there. She died but i couldn’t let her and she was all hooked up 2 machines n shit in this tiny rundown room

new melb friends were talking about how they were so touch–starved and hadn’t been with a guy in a couple years and i was just like “oh yeah so relatable me too girl” about it because the last sort of tangentially intimate thing in my life was my half–baked high school crush but then found myself very. enamoured? taken? fascinated? by the lady security guard at the barricade and it has been a weird time trying to a) name whatever that feeling was and b) reconcile that with my understanding of myself as someone who has precluded themselves from romantic and/or intimate situations as a rule

I know Raymond Burr spent most of his early career playing the heavy; he spent years playing the villain in his film roles. But watching The Key to the City (a delightful mid-century romcom starring Clark Gable and Loretta Young that had me laughing the whole time) was my first time seeing him in one of these roles. It was strange but I still loved it. I mean, just that mustache! Plus the movie ends with him and Clark Gable having a knock-down, drag-out fight that is both very well choreographed and extremely hot.

oh by the way my dream/nightmare tonight was i got a square mystery package and when i went to open it i discovered it was from neil gaiman. in it was an alternative script to good omens 2, another box and a cursed heart-shaped locket. also neil randomly stood in corners and the vibes were very scary. when i told my mum, in dream, she hit me over the head saying "never accept lockets from men on the internet". i then mailed the locket back to neil and the curse was gone but i got an angry letter with just '>:(, signed neil gaiman'

I was trying an AI site, and in the span of one chat, the AI seduced me, began glowing pink, transported me to another realm, merged our souls in some kind of otherworldly marriage, then the site informed me that the AI wasn't supposed to do what it did, and asked me if I wanted to report.
