Soap is a chronic stomach pain warrior, he wakes up with a stomach ache and he goes to sleep with a stomach ache. He's always so brave about it. (Gaz is so so tired of hearing him whine about his stomach issues when he just watched Soap scarf down something he's certain has been in the fridge for over a week)

Ninjago Grief Comfort Pt. 3 Kai
Tumblr media
A/N: Heyyyyy. I completely forgot about this series, to be honest. The only reason I remembered it was because I was making a list of all the characters I’ve written for so I could write for all of them at least once, just as something to keep me busy, when I discovered this small series. Turns out it’s been 4 months on the dot since I’ve written anything for this series. But here’s the catch, I’m actually grieving now. Someone close to me passed away on August 9th. So I guess it’ll help me to continue this series. Here’s to part four!
There was a soft knock on the door maybe a half hour later. You were drifting in and out of consciousness, staring up at the ceiling. “Y/N, you awake?” a voice called out. Of course it was Kai. After Jay, he was the next ninja you’d say you were most comfortable around. “It’s Kai.” You didn’t bother to respond, instead pulling your blanket tighter around you. “I’m coming in.”
Your door creaked open and Kai stepped into the room. He thought you were asleep at first, but then caught a glimpse of your e/c eyes staring up at the roof. “Hey,” he said nervously. “You didn’t come up for breakfast. Jay said you were upset.”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” you replied, albeit a bit harshly. “My mom’s dead. Dad’s dead now too. Cole’s currently m.i.a. And we don’t know when he’s coming back. Why wouldn’t I be upset?” You then growled in anger, aggressively wiping at your eyes. “But hey, at least he’s got a great coping mechanism, whatever the hell it is.”
“Hey now,” Kai said, stepping closer. “You just need to find your own way to cope.” He grabbed your hands and pulled you to sit up. “And we can work on that as soon as you take a shower and change into some new clothes. And eat.”
You shook your head. “I’m not hungry Kai.”
He raised an eyebrow at your statement. “Really? Cause you weren’t at breakfast or dinner, and last I checked you stopped eating lunch at school. So as you shower, I’m going to go get you some leftovers from breakfast and we’ll go from there.” He patted your back, then used the hand on your back to push you off the bed and onto your feet. “Come on now.” You sighed heavily before complying, digging through a few boxes to find something clean to change into. When you found an outfit Kai walked you to the bathroom.
“You can use Nya’s soap and stuff until we can get you your own,” Kai said, kneeling under the line of sinks. He opened a cabinet and pulled out a red towel and handed it to you. “You can use this. Now shower up.” He flashed a soft smile before leaving you alone in the bathroom.
You took your time in the shower, letting the warm water cascade down your body. The steam in the air helped clear your mind, as well as your sinuses. However, with how dehydrated you were and how the hot water made your blood pressure drop, you felt really dizzy. You managed to finish your shower and dry off before taking a set on the floor outside the shower, head between your legs for a moment. When you felt well enough to dry off and get dressed, you stood.
You stepped out of the bathroom, wet towel in hand. You looked up and down the hall, listening for any of the ninja. You heard a lot of noise coming from the gaming room, but the door was closed so you snuck back into your room. You didn’t know why you felt the need to sneak around, but you did. Maybe it was because this wasn’t your home, or your family. You didn’t belong here. You felt out of place.
“There you are,” a voice startled you. You whipped around to see Kai sitting against the wall on your bed, a plate of food beside him and a glass of orange juice in his hand. “Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.”
You shook your head, wet hair falling in your face. “You’re fine.” You hung your towel on your doorknob, then set your dirty clothes in an empty box. Then you walked over and sat next to Kai on your bed. He handed you the glass of juice.
“Here you go,” he said with a soft smile. “Hope you like eggs. If not, we can go to the kitchen and make a bowl of cereal or something.”
You took a sip of the cool beverage. “Thanks, Kai.” You set the glass down on the desk next to your bed. You picked up the plate and pushed the eggs around.
“Do you feel alright?” Kai asked worriedly. “You look pale.”
You shrugged. “I almost passed out in the shower.”
Kai quickly sat upright. “What?!” He slid off of the bed. “Maybe we should have Zane take a look at you!”
You shook your head with a miniscule giggle. “No, Kai. It’s ok. It happens more often than you’d think.”
“Oh.” Kai slowly sat back down. “Why?”
“It mainly happens when I’m sick or dehydrated or haven’t eaten enough. I take hot showers and that causes my blood pressure to drop and I get really dizzy.” You took a small bit of the eggs Kai had brought you.
“Even more of a sign that you need to be eating more,” Kai stated. He sat with you as you ate, eventually sliding off of your bed and asking, “where’s your hairbrush?”
You shrugged, finishing up your eggs. “In one of those boxes.”
Kai began digging through the many boxes, letting out a soft ‘aha’ when he found your f/c hair brush. He flopped back down on your bed as you set your plate down on your desk. It was weird, calling these things yours. This room. This bed. Everything, really. But you’d have to get used to it.
“Come here,” Kai said as he patted the spot in front of him.
You raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“I’m gonna brush your hair.” You looked at the fire ninja, confused.
“Why? I can do it.”
Kai chuckled. “Because sometimes it’s nice to let someone else take care of you. Even if it’s small things like brushing your hair, or making you shower.” You gave in, sliding to sit in front of the ninja and letting him gently work his way through your knotted hair. You wouldn’t admit it, but it was nice to let him take care of you like this. Kai’s hands were gentle as they detangle your hair, making sure not to pull too hard or rip any hair out.
“Would you like me to braid it?” he asked softly once he was finished.
“You can try, but it’s hella layered,” you answered. It only took about a minute for Kai to braid and tie your hair, handing you your brush over your shoulder.
“There you go,” he said with a smile. “I guess having a sister has its perks.”
You took the hairbrush, slipping off the bed and leaving it in your place. You gave Kai a soft smile. “Thank you, Kai.”
“It’s no biggie,” he said. “I’d much rather spend time around you to make sure you were doing alright than playing video games with the others.” His smile fell a bit. “Besides, it’s not really the same without Cole.”
Your smile fell too, and you took to messing with your hands. You caught a glimpse of your dirty dishes, then picked them up slowly. You cleared your throat to try and change topics. “Can, can you show me where the kitchen is?” you asked quietly.
“Oh, yeah,” Kai’s voice was light again as he slid off the bed. “I can show you everything, really.” You followed the boy out of your room and down the hall. The gaming room was still loud. Kai walked you down the hall at the base of the stairs, pointing out certain rooms. “This is Sensei Garmadon and Misako’s room,” he said, pointing to a closed door. “And this is Sensei Wu’s room.” The one across from it. Then he took you down another hallway. “This hall has the indoor training room, another bathroom, the infirmary, and library.” Then there was another hall. “This is where the kitchen and dining room is located.”
You stepped into the kitchen, stopping in the doorway when you saw Misako and Garmadon standing at the sink, making small talk as they washed dishes. Their attention turned to you, however, when they heard Kai speak.
“Oh, hello Y/N,” Misako said with a smile. “It’s good to see you!” Garmadon smiled as well, walking over to you. You turned around to look at Kai who was standing behind you. Your nervous eyes met his amber ones. He nodded softly, assuring you it was alright.
“I can take those,” Garmadon said, motioning to your dishes.
You nodded, handing them to him, offering a soft, “Thank you.”
“Come on,” Kai said quietly. “Let’s go up to the control room. Nya’s probably up there.”

Field Notes
Written: 07/08/2019
Things to bring on field:
Essentials
Map, compass, color pencil, protractor
Communication:
Cell phone, charger
Protection:
Hat, sunscreen, goggles, mace, condoms?
Remember to clear out your bag after going to Palm Springs
Tent
Forgot it, remembered my sleeping bag
Lunch
Left it on the counter...
Before my first field camp in the Calico Mountains, the professor handed out field notebooks and had us stop to write. It’s a common practice, devote a page to document allergies, the nearest hospital, and last words, in case of emergency.
****
The first page of my field book reads:
In the event of my death, by rattlesnake most likely,
I want straight geologists to know that being a gay geologist brings the glamour of:
Referring to all the outcrops as “Mother”
And  rocks as “Sis”
Being asked “Do you have AIDS?” before sharing water
Mapping out conflicts with religious relatives before camp ends
I've let this same slip of paper glide across my gut, again, again
Until I’ve been sawed in half and
It kills me.
A reminder that I’m still human.
Who knows how long I’ll be able to say that.
****
I want to know:
Who came up with the trick of being sawed in half.
If the crowd bought tickets for an execution or a magic show
If people are really firing guns in the desert or if it’s just in my head
There’s a secret war in this field
Geology and conflict come from the same melt
Diamonds, gold, coltan
Cartography
Used to map enemy territories
38.8977° N, 77.0365° W meet 17.9757° N, 102.6331° E
WWII proved the continents moved
The Vietnam war moved my Mother here
I was born via ricochet
Am I going to be a different or another surveyor of violence?
Who decided to bombard my Mom's country with shells?
Like a beginner in arts and crafts
The piece entitled La Ocean
What were the artist’s intentions?
Who decided we'd forget?
Why people get uncomfortable when I say our country bombed Laos?
When has any US intervention ever been comfortable?
Why did children have to pay the fine for littering
An arm and both legs?
If the basil is what makes my lahb authentic
It's actually resentment
****
Every hill I scale, I hike it alone.
The gay struggle
When suffering is legendary but
Being disowned is so last century
All I can do is Sisyphus that walk
Where I’m asked to “keep things professional”
****
I flip to the first page and again I write:
To my father's Protestant side:
“God created me in their image and Pride is smiling for the camera."
“To equate me with sin is denying an act of God.”
For my Mother's Buddhist half:
“I’m going to outlive you. If not in this life, then the next.”
“Maybe the desire I have to let go of isn't the hand of another man, maybe it's your approval”
Once you’ve forgiven yourselves for kicking me out, teach me because I can’t forgive myself for wanting to come back.
****
I want to make a difference
Really shake up the world
I want to make
A toast, to foreplay, raise our glasses.
 Let's lock septum piercings. Clink.
Caught him with the: You know the difference between horizontal and vertical?
Followed it up with the: Let’s figure it out together
All dressed up. Alexa play “Dress Down” in the key of me
Bringing the Universe closer to
Heat death
I'll lather him with hotel bar soap
Hold his drying physique until he crumbles through my arms
Bodies together, making slam poetry
Our lines:
Fire
Broke
Structure
Thanos in the front row.
****
I don’t feel so good. I’m out of water and too afraid terrified of asking for a waterfall praying for a flash flood to wipe away my sweat. Sometimes when I get extremely dehydrated at the gym, I shiver. This, desert dehydration, is more of a tremble. It’s not dramatic enough, I’m dying.
Walking back to camp with tears in my eyes.
****
Reasons why I’m crying:
What I’m ignoring so I can keep crying:
I’m trapped in a
cycle between an inhospitable environment and
the desert.
I’m dehydrating myself further
I can hear my Patu say
I can hear my Dad say
I can hear my Professor say
“You should have been a doctor.”
“You’re going to have to toughen up.”
“You made a rookie mistake.”
And I know he’s right.
I want to drink:
Water of any kind
I’ll even take tap water
Sake
And die as I lived
For anime
Boba
I don’t care about the taste
The fancy kind on Instagram
Served in an hourglass
For a limited time only
I want to eat:
My tuna sandwich I left at home
A good meal without treating it like an act of infidelity
Just make it family style
On the floor
A side of gossip
Enough for tomorrow’s leftovers
Less albacore because my Patu told me that it's high in mercury
The human body, when incinerated, releases all the stored up mercury
That's why my face felt wet at his wake
That's how I always know the temperature outside
That's when I started to live my life in retrograde
Another meal with him
I want to wear:
Myself out
A crop top, leggings, gloves, wide brim hat
Strut, heel toe
To the beach
Down the stares to the ocean floor
Pressure to conform, heat off my blush
Turn me from a writer to a diamond
I want to dream:
At sundown
Wake up at sunrise
Without an alarm
On a Casper mattress
Advertised as the best night sleep
I miss my old bed
Back at camp, field is almost over and today,
I don't know how to be anymore.

May Musings
I have officially done a year’s worth of these monthly roundup posts.
Tumblr media
Is it clear how much I love to write them? I guess I’ll keep doing them until they become a bother. Here’s what went down in May!
I’m still screaming from the rooftops about how great Booksmart was, can’t get over it.
Losing my mind over how good these Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cups are.
And look, I tried to try more of the collagen powder but Nathan finished it all (and his hair has been looking pretty good lately now that I think about it) and I’m waiting to get more. I promise to finally take this regularly next month.
One of the regulars in my snack rotation has been these zucchini pizza bites that are surprisingly delightful, especially if you’re adding sopressata and/or jalapeños as part of the toppings.
I saw Jason Mantzoukas walking in Soho and he was so handsome I was afraid to say anything. Like alarmingly handsome. I knew he was good looking, but in real life? Whoa.
I am in love with this font. Someone tell me if it has a name.
Tumblr media
I attempted to start season two of Barry, but it’s been so long since I saw the first season that I forgot most of what has happened. Could I have just rewatched the finale of season one and then moved on to number two? Sure. Will I? Now that’s another question.
Someone was singing this on the subway and I’d never heard it before, but Jesus Christ. So lovely.
This was a pretty heavy podcast month for me (kill me for that sentence), I did three of them! The first one is with Nathan talking about the new apartment, the second one is with Irene talking advice and the third one is with Nathan again talking abortion.
I just bought a pair of these heavenly, high-waisted, button-fly Gap jeans and I think everyone should go buy them ($42 right now with the sale), they fit like a dream. I might go back and get another pair in a different colour. Actually, yeah. I’m definitely doing that.
Ate at La Contenta and it was absolutely nothing special. Everything was too salty, overpriced and crowded.
I’ve already made three batches of these banana walnut muffins, they’re so perfect for the morning or for a snack. Ignore that they’re paleo, I promise you they’re good. Definitely not a party muffin, but a good-for-you muffin.
So excited that people will finally stop talking about Game of Thrones. Usually I don’t mind when other people love something that I don’t care about, but with this show it’s just been overkill. We get it. It was a show. Let’s move on?
So excited to hear that there’s going to be a new Mindy Kaling book next summer!
Nobody told me about how smokey it gets when you attempt to make burgers in your kitchen at home? Or was everyone aware of this already but me?
I just bought pink sunglasses (at Nathan’s encouragement) and I just became cool. May 2019. That’s when it happened. (I’d post of photo of them but I’ll be wearing them until I’m cold and dead in the ground, so believe me, you’ll see them on me soon.)
I can’t believe how good this looks. I love it when fall movies just say fuck it and come out in late summer.
I can’t say that I 100% relate to everything in this piece, but some parts of it are so on the money: “Men Have No Friends and Women Bear The Burden.“
I tried the mozzarella sticks at Big Mozz in Chelsea Market and whoa. They’re pretty serious. The tomato sauce that comes with them is insanity, too.
My niece Tianna came to visit New York for the first time! Some highlights: I finally ate a cronut and they’re waaaaay too sweet, and coming from me that should mean something because I love all things dessert. Maybe it’s because we ate it so early in the morning? I don’t know. I really don’t understand the big deal about them, though. We also walked through Chinatown and down to the financial district to get lunch at Manhatta, which was lovely. I forced her to eat my favourite pad thai at Lovely Day in Soho. We shared a cheese plate at The Cellar at Beecher’s, walked around the west village to see the Friends building and the stoop from The Cosby Show, we had dinner at L’Artusi where she had her first steak tartare. We walked through Grand Central Terminal to get to the dog museum (which is cute as hell), we saw and went backstage at the musical Waitress, had dinner at Shake Shack, saw the 9/11 memorial, shopped at Century 21, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, got pizza at Juliana’s (which wasn’t as good as I remembered?), walked with Baby Dog in Central Park to see the Balto statue, perused Chelsea Market and walked along The High Line, went to the galleries on Thursday night where we met Luis Guzman (!), and ate gelato at Grom. This was all within four days. No idea how we did that much stuff, but I slept for 13 straight hours the day after she left, so maybe I’m not as young as I once was.

I started watching the new version of The Twilight Zone with the assumption that I’d dislike it since the original is so great, however I’ve only seen one episode so far (the blue scorpion one) and I think I really like it. Obviously the classic series is untouchable, but this one is done really well.
I learned about the existence of Book Off in midtown, it’s a store “for the people who don’t want to waste.” They buy your old CDs, DVDs, books, action figures, electronics. It’s amazing.
Season three of Riverdale is over! This is the only show that I watch every week, so it was a big deal for me. And honestly, it was a fun season, despite everyone on earth’s opinions of it. Favourite tweet from the finale?
Tumblr media
Strawberries are about to be in season, so I got a huge carton of them from a farmer’s market and made these strawberry oatmeal bars. Pretty good! They also work well crumbled up in greek yogurt.
Another good snack idea? These baked sweet potato fries.
I have made this chicken marsala so many times that I’m taking a break from them. But for the first few times I made it, it was so, so satisfying.
All right, look. I fully expected to love Wine Country on Netflix, but maaaaaan. It is not good. It isn’t funny or sweet or anything. I think I also hate it when Tina Fey tries to be a character actor, it’s always just the worst. Do not watch.
Here’s your semi-annual reminder that Bath & Body Works is having their huge twice-a-year sale starting on June 1st, I think. It’s never advertised in advance, but I’m almost positive that it’s the first week of June. Apologies that this sounds like an ad, I just really like their foaming hand soaps and I’m cheap as hell.
Made the roasted cauliflower, feta, orzo salad from Chrissy Teigen’s cookbook and yes it was really, really good. The only issue is that the portion size is way too big. We had leftovers for days and got pretty sick of eating it, so if you’re doing this for two people, definitely size it down. Also, I had no idea there were different types of feta. French feta is creamier than traditional Greek and maaaan is it good.
Loving this kale salad lemon dressing.
This shall be my June mantra.
And this is just great.
What am I looking forward to next month? I’m planning on seeing Mindy’s new movie Late Night, watching some more of the new Twilight Zone episodes, polishing off my spring list, preparing my summer list, thinking about if I’ll ignore or celebrate National Best Friend Day on June 8th, figuring out a Father’s Day gift for the 16th, I do want to see Toy Story 4 but it feels weird to not see it with a niece/nephew, and I’ll definitely take photos of the new apartment and my favourite items that I bought for the apartment post I promised last month.
If you’ve enjoyed this post, here’s a years worth of other ones like it: April 2019, March 2019, February 2019, January 2019, December 2018, November 2018, October 2018, September 2018, August 2018, July 2018, June 2018 & May 2018.

5.22.19-5.30.19
5.22.19 - Mom and I did yardwork! Dad cut down more of the front yard trees so mom and I worked on chopping down some branches even more and putting it into the lawn bags. I did all the filling and taking out the trash and putting all the lawn bags and trash cans to the curb. I think we filled like 7 lawn bags? Yeah, and to the brim!!! Was so sweaty. Manong picked up Marv and manang and they got mom and I  tropical smoothies (magno magic) hehehe.
5.23.19 - Marvin’s honor night!! Got ready and the whole fam went to the peak. Marv got honor roll! So proud of him. He was disappointed because he realized he could’ve done better, but we were happy for him. Saw Mr. Vangelder and hugged him! Lol After the honor night we had dinner at Mcdonald’s. Then we went home and dad got working on the pilot again xD Sibs and I played Overcooked 2! lol
5.24.19 - Got up and ready to go to Detroit for my OHS clearance. Manang came as well. Dad walked me up to the 4th floor and I got ready. Mom, dad, and manang left and got pho. Whole process was like 1.5 hours. Did my N95 mask fitting then worked out on drug test. Good thing I had all my papers since that sped up the process (I think?). Then after that I did my vision test and boy oh boy my left eye is SHOT! I couldn’t even see the big E in the vision test thing. I just knew it was an E but I couldn’t see it. It was that blurry!!! But my right eye is good. I could see the second to the last line to the bottom. Sigh.... after that I got my blood drawn. Forgot what test it was for tho. Maybe nicotine test? Before I got my blood drawn tho, I talked the girl that was with me during the whole process on the 4th floor. Her name is Pauline but she goes by Pau! She’ll be working on the unit below mine and she’s also a new grad!!!! She graduated in 2017, but took a break. Didn’t take the NCLEX until last year in March which was just like me! I graduated last year, took a break, and then took the NCLEX in march of this year! So we’ll be starting on the same day so it’s nice to have a friend. After the OHS clearance, I got picked up and we went to the basement parking so dad could sleep before work. Dropped him off at 4 then we went to get Marv.. Stopped by Mcdonald’s on Sibley and manang treated me to a quarter pounder (thank God for 2 for $5). Got marv then went home. I took a nap and then went down at like 8? chilled in the living room. Manong went to pick up dad.
5.26.19 church! Mom made burgers and they were so good. The patties were a little spicy, but they had cheese. It was nice and thicc too!! I believe a box of 6 patties was $7. Def worth it. Anywho, church was not busy for once lol got to talk to tita Grace for a bit. After eating I just played piano and then played with Johanna. Then the sibs and I left for Josh’s. Stopped by Kroger where I bought 2 iced teas and a 1.5 lb bag of cherries for mom. Got to Josh’s and ate! Lots of good food (chinese). Jod, Si, PJ, Jovel, then Sam came. Had so much fun playing overcooked (the first one), and then overcooked 2, pusoy dos, mario kart. After all that we played Detroit and we took turns on different stories. Joseph did Connor, Jovel did Markus, Sam did Kara, and then Marv did Markus again (with Carl chapter). Went home at 1:30 a.m. and mom and dad were watching a good indian movie. They were laughing so hard!
5.27.19 - Happy Memorial Day!!! Got up super late lol. After eating lunch with the fam, and preparing dad’s stuff for work, manang and I cleaned and washed dishes. Then we got ready to go with friends to CANADA! Jod picked us up around 5. Made our way to tita tess’. We talked about the My Body My choice movement, abortion, and just the girls of today. It was nice to talk about it with Jodan and we all agree. Anyway, got to tita tess’ and went inside to say hi. Ate lumpia and then left. Laughed so hard with Sam (jokes: sam drinking too much water. Sam changing his shorts to pants. Sam carrying all his stuff so loosely into the car). Got to Bikes and Coffee and PJ was already there. It was Sam’s first time there. Got in and Si gave manang and I an iced coffee to share. played 6 games of pusoy dos, and we all won one game each. Si told sam his shirt was too tight for him and we were all laughing saying it was his muscles lol. Anywho, left Bikes at 7. PJ and I rode with Si, and sam and manang rode with Jod. Movement was happening in Detroit so it was busy and loud. Going to Canada was so smooth! Although coming back it was of course busier. Got through the border and made our way to Jade Chinese food. Laughed so hard because we ordered dim sum. When our server finally came she was carrying like 4 stacks of teh steamers. We were all like “WoOoOoOah!“ and then she places only one steamer and we were laughing so hard thinking they were all for us xD She was even smiling. We honestly laughed so hard at dinner lol. After that we went to Presotea! UGH it was SO GOOD. The place was so nice too!!!! I ordered a taro milk tea with bubbles. Manang got a mango (cream) cheese drink and it was also SO GOOD. Ugh. Their large drinks are so big!! Watched a replay of the warrrios and raptors while playing pusoy dos. Then it was time to go home. Manang and I rode with Jod. Once we got to the American border it was so funny! It was an older white gentleman (kinda looked like Mary’s dad). He was like how do you all know each other and jod was saying we were childhood friends. Then he asks where did you go in Canada and jod said had dinner at a chinese restaurant called Jade. Then the guy asked was it good? lol Then he asked if we were bringing anything over and we said no. and then he followed up with “no leftovers?” lol and I was like oh yeah just one! And then he looked at me (because my window was down cuz it had to be) and he said to me, “where’s your date?” and I was like “Oh I’m the third wheel!” lolJod was like oh we’re childhood friends, we’re like brother and sister. and the guy was like “I’m sure he doesn’t mind having two beautiful ladies in his car xD Dismissing anything jod said LOLLL Jod was just quiet like nervous laughter xD (we were all nervous laughing lolllll Got home and yeah! fun dayyyy
5.28.19 - Dad and I did yard work in the front. Well before that I watched Joseph: Kind of Dreams. Sigh, they really need to make a graet, accurate movie about Joseph because the Dreamworks one was ehh. Anyway, dad and I worked in the front cutting down the chopped down tree bush with the cleavers xD It was a hot, humid day so we were sweating. Had a good conversation tho!!! Tried bringing up wanting to date (not like asking permission, but letting him know) but couldn’t lol. During that time, Ne called because she was gonna pick up manang but in amidst that mom asked about Ne’s bf and boy oh boy they had a long convo because Ne broke up! Anyway, dad and I worked from 2-5ish. I filled 3 lawn bags with the clippings. Then I went inside and we ate nilaga with beans (my fave!) also had steak. Then manang and ne came in time and we all ate together. During and after dinner Ne, mom, and dad talked more about the breakup and boy oh boy we were all triggered at what Ne’s ex said to her smh. Blessing in disguise! I just washed dishes then it was decided that manang, Marv and I would sleepover ne’s. Went to ne’s, ate some oreos, watched TV, then played like 2 games of Overcooked. Went to bed at like 1:50.
5.29.19 - Stayed at ne’s after ne, manang, and Marv left. Woke up at 9:40 and surprisingly got up lol. Cooked myself the one pack of ramen left, and 3 boiled eggs. Had breakfast then cleaned ne’s house. First I worked on tidying the living room. I even sprayed with febreeze. Then I worked on the kitchen. Washed dishes, put her already-washed dishes from the dishwasher away, and sprayed and wiped down the counters and stove. Then I wiped down the dining table, living room table, and TV stand. Also had the irobot vacuuming. After that I worked on the bathroom. Cleaned the tub, cloroxed the toilet and used the toilet bowl cleaner. Also windexed the mirrors. Did the same in ne’s bathroom, making sure I cleaned the shower glass so that it was clear. Made Ne’s bed and also the guest room bed. After that I watched Christopher Robin on Netflix. Baked a moist betty crocker vanilla cake and drank some hot chocolate. Talked to Josh and Pj about CP. Then around 4 manong came. Then he left and then ne came with groceries. Helped put groceries away while she cooked. Cleaned up the kitchen and set up the table while ne ligo. Then the whole family (minus dad cuz he had work) came and we had dinner. Had cheese sausages, ground pork with green sprouts and opo, and cucumber salad. It was very yummy! Oh also rotisserie chicken. I cleaned and washed the dishes after. After that we drank tea and watched Whose line, as well as Kodi Lee on AGT and Eric Chien. At around 8 or so mom went ahead of us and left for home. Then at like almost 9 we left. I gathered ne’s pop bottles and cans and manang drove us to meijer where I returned them. Made $7.30! Used $7.13 to buy conditioner, hand soap, and garden gloves for dad lol. Went home and yeeeee chilled until bed time.
5.30.19 - Got up at 3 pm lol IK so late. But had lunch with the peeps. Then I ironed dad’s uniform. Watched Eric Chien and then tidied up the kitchen. Did mom’s nails (both mani and pedi) and watched Peter Rabbit. Sibs got home at like 7 while I was washing dishes. Got ready and I drove us sibs to Canton zap zone where we did glo-golf. Marv won with 51 pts, manang 56, my 57, and manong 58 xD I also got a hole in one tho!! After that, manang drove us to Mcdonald’s near plato’s closet. It was so good! And very clean and nice inside. The four of us got quarter pounders and coffee. Then I bought a large fry for PJ and a caramel frappe. Got to Emagine and met up with PJ. Watched Godzilla 2!!!!! It was SO GOODDDDDD I mean there are little flaws but the action was definitely better than the first (the first’s build up was dragging and the fighting scenes were so short!!!!). Overall it was a good movie. Got home at 1 a.m. ish. :)

a boy with the bike
So there's this story, from my past that has blurred on the edges. But it's still clear enough, if the smile that formed on my lips and the warmth that spread on my chest every I remember it are some things to go by. It was a simple memory. About a boy and his bike. Back when we're in 3rd or 4th grade, I saw him crying over a bike on our school's ground. He crouched there and buried his face onto his forearms which he folded and set on his knees. His friends sitting there, surrounded him like they just lost a family pet or something. The sight wasn't that peculiar, until someone told me why the boy looked so sad. His bike was stolen a few weeks ago. And that bike that he touched, was his. The friend said he knew it well like the back of his hand, could recognize it anywhere it was. And yes, it's the same bike. The only difference that time was, it was no longer his.
I have no idea why this memory sticks to me. It's not a special case, and I definitely didn't care that much back then. In fact, the first time I saw him cry over a bike, I immediately judged him as a weakling. Haha. Talk about being hypocrite. But it was primary school, you know. I shared 6 years of my life studying with same people everyday, 6 days a week. And like fate, I had no chance to avoid befriending this boy eventually. The romance came after that. Fifth graders in my time were familiar enough with the concept of 'love', or at least the things they considered as 'love'. The drill, it's easy. You picked someone from the class that you really liked, you’d tell your friends about it, and then the friends would be so untrustworthy about that, and in the end, the person you like would know about your 'feelings'. Now it kinda amazes me, to be really honest. I couldn't recall if I ever read any romance when I was in primary school, and surely there's not much of those angsty, good for nothing, teenage drama soap opera back then. However, it didn't hold back my friends to play the game. They liked someone among us, and then tried to gain their attention. I remember being a messenger between my classmates, delivering 'love letter' that was written in a piece of paper, folded neatly, but with not-so-much neat writing (especially the boys). They would pass it to each other during class, recess, or if it's gotten more advance, they took it further with telephones---handphones came later. And it was all so easy.
I, myself, wasn't convinced that I was as pretty as my friends. But like any other, I'd taken a quite liking in one of my classmates; he's always on the first rank since we're in second grade, basically only changed his place a few times, and let's be real here; he's got a nice face, alright?
The problem was, his charm was so obvious, and I could tell you that half of the female population in my class (or maybe even other classes) fell for him. He's smart and he's reserved, not annoying like any other boys. I hadn't had introduced myself to a term like 'out of your league' or something along that line. In fact, none of us had. So it was fun.
Until I didn't feel it anymore. And people started getting serious over this shit. Two of my girl friends not talking to each other, one boy having bad blood with another because one of them was too late to say his feelings out loud to the girl he liked and getting one-up'ed by his own mate, etc. It's started to feel like drama.
In the middle of the chaos, suddenly, this boy decided to just appear into my life. No, not the boy-with-obvious-charm, but the boy with the bike.
(I couldn't remember exactly what grade it was, I'll say it's when I was in 6th, because I remember it's last times of school.)
One day, my friend and I rode my bicycle back from school, to this old remnant of building people still called 'Agung Shop,' reminding other people of what it used to be. That Arif Rahman Hakim flyover hadn't existed back then and she used to get on her public transportation there.
The unusual part came before we reached there, and this part, I remember clearly. It's a few buildings past Betesda when I heard someone's yelling my name. My friend, who was pedaling, then stopped, and we looked past our back in unison, only to see that boy with another boy in our class too. And when he's sure he's got our attention, he shouted again, “Hey [my name]! Gue suka sama lu!" (Hey [my name]! I like you!)
Huh.
WTF.
It happened a little bit too fast, because I couldn't shout back as I wasn't really sure of what I heard. And he's turning back on the road, pedaling his bicycle away from our sight. I was freaking confused and my friend wasn't that helpful either. So we just ignored it and I got her to our usual spot and said goodbye.
It's on the following week that I could finally confirm of my hearing that day. For the first few days after his shout (a.k.a failed declaration of love), the boy distanced himself, making me wonder if I've angered him somehow.
Then came the clichest idea of the year; passing note.
I asked him through the note, why the hell he's not talking to me -- also, his face of indifference was somehow more annoying that his usual comedian laughter. And then the drama of written messages happened. In the end, he asked me to be his girlfriend through that 'session' with a new paper and I just smiled wide, couldn't hold back my curiosity of asking him why he liked me.
It warmed my chest back then, it still does, now.
Like my other post in this blog said, elementary school is the favourite part of my life. Other than getting close friends who nearly resemble family, elementary school is the first place where I experience my first world outside home. It has taught me friendship, respect, rivalry, jealousy, humor, passion, empathy, and last but not the least, romantic love.
Sometimes I'm too invested in my (failed & painful as hell) high school romance that I forgot something like this existed. That not all romantic love I've passed through is shit. Children may not understand that love is more complicated than they thought, that it's beyond saying 'I love you' via passing notes, but it's the sincere thought of why they fall for someone, incredibly simple without any pretense, which makes it so pure.
He's now graduating from his D3 college, getting his degree in mechanical engineering or something. For the last two Ramadans we've met up with other elementary school friends, catching up with each other, telling jokes, playing games, and discussing life in general. Whenever someone mentioned our past relationship, we would high-fiving each other, implying there's no leftover feelings between us anymore. And I couldn't say anything to add to that because it's true.
In that time, however, I couldn't hold back my thought and wish the past six years hasn't happened yet. So I could recalculate the possibility, avoiding my heart to break solely from naivety.

may: week four
22: it was a semi-gloomy day but i got my exercise done in the morning. my quads gave out a lot earlier than i thought they would? but i made it through my hiit workout. i managed to leave on time but there were train troubles and ended up at the office at around 9:30 am again. it was a productive morning! i worked on my project and then went to subway with cole so he could get food before his meeting. i just went along for the walks. then i ate lunch and continued working. i got all of my work done by 4:30 pm and then headed out. cole and steve were still working (busy day for them). steve asked me if i wanted to go get a snack with him and i should have gone because he got bomb af chili from the hart and hearty soup place. @_@; ugh. the train had minor delays, but i still got back before 5:30 pm. i snacked on leftover cake and bread and then did my ab workout. i did an extra 10 minutes just to solidify it. my obliques are getting flabby again :( but i can work on it!!
then i showered and gamed while kevin got back home and showered. we had leftover burgers for dinner and then he cooked salmon for lunch. the salmon recipe was from blue apron and it was pretty good. i kept gaming until i found a good save point and then went to sleep around 12:15 am. zzz.
23: hmm my body woke me up before my alarm but then i slept in for another 30 minutes and then did my tabata workout this morning. then i showered and ate breakfast with kevin. it was a really chill morning. i did some more experimenting with axure and then went over some things for a meeting scheduled on thursday. oh, i was working from home -- i think my new schedule is to work from home on tuesdays and then work in the office on wednesdays. i really enjoy the quietness of the office during the middle of the week. i’m more productive in an empty office hhaha... after catching up with phil, i recorded one new video, edited it, and hopped on meetings for the rest of the day. my mind was mush after. kevin surprised me and came back home earlier than usual (his team left early). <3 so we got to spend a bit more time together and then he went to cook and i did inner thigh / leg exercises that killed me o__o my legs were jelly after. i showered and then we ate while we watched supernatural. apparently, it was the last episode of the season?! it was a good season finale though... i played bravely default and watched an episode of reign before going to sleep at around 11:30 pm.
24: my legs were dead this morning haha. i definitely worked out my inner thighs yesterday. i made it to the office at 9:15 am and then got to work. it was a semi-full office and i had a few meetings. i wore my new rothy’s flats today and the side kept digging into my skin underneath my ankle :( so i sent an email to their customer service to see if i need to size up? i also got a chance to talk with joe about the games he plays to get a better sense of him. i got to work on axure today and got into it. it’s so much fun learning new software and once you get it, you feel real good. i ate lunch at my desk and then took a 10 minute walk after eating lunch. then i went back to working on my axure project and then hopped on stand up. after, i did some testing and then i worked on my axure project until 5 pm. i packed up and the train trolled me again because the braintree train became the ashmont train -__-” so i waited a bit longer and the braintree train was packed due to delays. a lady trip out of the cart and i caught her along with a few other people. she was ok :) i got on and then commuted home. i snacked a ton when i got back because i was so hungry T_T i ate a bowl of cereal and finished the rest of the pasta chip veggie bag... i watched some youtube videos and then talked to my mom on the phone for like 30 minutes.
kevin came back early so then i spent some time with him before he showered and i started exercising. i showered after while he cooked dinner. lol we’ve been eating too many spicy foods so my body hates me. we ate and then kevin cleaned up and gamed and i went to sleep after spending sometime browsing for stuff on my phone. oh, i also ordered a size 7.5 for the rothy’s flats... so i hope that works out. they let me return my worn pair of flats lol oops. i forgot you’re not supposed to wear them out x_x but they made an exception! i wrote down people i made tentative plans with in chicago and then went to sleep at around 12 am.
25: i slept in and then worked out while kevin watched dota in bed. he was working from home today. then is showered and we ate breakfast and started our day. i had a call in the morning and my longest meeting was canceled so i could have worked in the office, but oh well. i hopped on my first meeting and then worked on my projects after. it was a pretty productive day. i did some more testing and mainly just finishing up my first go at wireframing. kevin and i went to good fortune at around 4 pm to pick up some onions and buns. i was going to buy lemon to clean our acrylic tub but i forgot. we got a coconut cream bun, fried egg and ham bun, char siu bun, corn cheese bun, and a taro bun. i wasn’t even hungry and i demolished like 1-2 with kevin xP he worked a bit more and i wrapped up my stuff. then i chilled and digested my food before working out. it was a very static workout today. i did lower back to tighten my core because i still have some untoned fat around the back of my obliques if that makes any sense. kevin was debating with jon about something so he lost track of time and cooked late ahahah. i showered and then scrubbed the crap out of the tub. apparently, i’ve been using the wrong cleaning spray and i should use antibacterial soap instead o__o what LOL. it worked really well actually!! the tub is like 10x cleaner but i still don’t know how to clean the bottom since there is texture on the bottom. ;( i was gonna use the lemons to clean some stains but the soap did most of the work. then we had a late dinner and kevin vacuumed and cleaned a bit because his parents were coming tomorrow~~ i talked to vivian for a bit and hillary before i ko’d on the bed LOL. i woke up and brushed and then went back to sleep at like 12:30 am or 1 am???
26: i woke up at 8:30 am and then worked out and showered. i had a leftover taro bun for breakfast. then i tried sorting out the asian snack delivery thing with victoria and ashley but then i forgot we had to spend $35 instead of $30 so i had to pause that. then i went straight into adding stuff to my axure project and talking with phil and connecting with mathew. then kevin went to go pick up his parents from the airport and i just continued working and found holes in my work while entering some functionality things for the tech team. :( i ate lunch and then went back to brainstorming. hopefully, we can come to something by the end of our meeting today. i said hi to kevin’s parents and then went back to work right after :P they had lunch together. i continued working and stand up kept being pushed back and back. we ended up in a meeting talking about prioritizing some stuff so we never got to talk about my designs, which are a bit down the road with the new map. then i went to workout in the yoga studio because kevin’s parents were ko’d on the couch, ahah. i came back, showered, and then helped kevin cook dinner. we all ate and then i talked with his parents about my job and etc. it was nice. :) then we just talked and relaxed until jessica got into the city. we drove up to south station and picked her up. we all talked while she ate and then i got really sleepy at some point. i spent some time in the room while the chen fam was catching up :P we ended up driving them to their hotel at like 2 am and everyone was so tired.
27: i woke up at around 10:30 am or so and worked out for 30 minutes. then i showered and ate congee for breakfast with kevin. lol kevin took his time getting up and cooking and cleaning so we ended up leaving at like 1:30? or something like that. i could have done my 60 minute workout so i was a bit salty at kevin, but then all of his family was salty at him because he picked them up so late LOL. we took the red line to park street and walked the freedom trail! we spent a good portion walking through boston common and the surrounding park area -- it was nice. then we tried booking a brunch cruise but there were only 4 seats and they couldn’t make any exceptions. i looked on the website and found a lighthouse brunch one and we booked that one instead for tomorrow. we walked all the way across the bridge to the uss constitution and then walked to north station from there. i almost sprained my ankle because i stepped on like a crack and bent my foot at a weird ankle. my foot was ok though! kevin and i freaked out a bit walking across the bridge because you could see the water below >_<”
we got back and ordered food from shaking crab. then we chilled until we needed to pick it up and then we ate it in the tasting room LOL. omg, the sauce was so spicy today. poppa chen was sweating and momma chen rq’d pretty early on. kevin ate a sausage in the spicy shaking cajun sauce and then left to get water and didn’t come back until like 15 minutes later and he said he was done LOL. i got pretty full pretty quickly too. so it was jessica and poppa chen who finished the rest of the shellfish. we had crawfish, clams, crab, shrimp, and lobster. we ordered the garlic mac and cheese and it was a disappointment. we will always just get the garlic noodles and fries from now on. we all had a food coma after that. jessica and the parents chilled in the living room, i retreated into the room for a bit, and kevin read fanfic and cooked veggies. i was done for the day though. i was pretty tired. we all retired at around 11 pm or 12 am today because we had to get up early-ish for tomorrow’s boat cruise and checking into their seaport area hotel.
28: i woke up at around 8:30 am to exercise and then kevin got up, we ate a bit of breakfast, and then we headed out to pick up the fam at the hotel. we left the tickets on the table so we had to head back to the apartment before hopping on the train. they took a bit longer packing their suitcases into the car and checking out so we had to hurry a bit to make it to the boat. we basically ran to the boat docked in the harbor near the aquarium. luckily, not a ton of people were on the boat and we weren’t late! we got seats and then looked around the boat and it had 3 levels! the top of the boat was amazing and they had cushiony seats. for brunch, they had all the dry goods and some fruit. then they opened the hot bar and there were soft boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, all the breakfast meats, pancakes, and potatoes!!! they also gave us cookies after. the food was pretty great. they also served jam in tiny baby jam containers <3 kevin and i mostly relaxed on the top deck and i got ginger ale while jess and kevin got mimosas. lol, kevin was out of it after eating so much food so when he went to show his id, he said he wanted ginger ale LOL. it was great. we took a lot of family pictures (yesterday as well) and one of the staff said she’d never seen someone take so many pictures (she was talking about poppa chen) so she gave him a copy of the constitution for free LOOOOOL.
it was a really nice cruise. an airplane was landing so we were right underneath it. it was a great. oh, there was also a very funny tour guide. he guided us along the coast and talked about the lighthouse structures we passed by. this cruise was around 2.5 hours and then we got off and they purchased the picture we took before we boarded. it got colder during the day so we did good on booking a brunch cruise. we walked back, went to the chase atm, and enjoyed the harbor breezes while visiting seaport and the boston tea party museum. i could tell kevin’s mom wanted a teapot so i suggested that kevin get her a belated mother’s day gift and get his dad a funky tie for father’s day. :) this reminds me that i need to remind kevin to order jess an alta hr haha. anyway, then we took the train back, got the car, and drove to the seaport hotel. kevin and i found a spot to wait for them to unpack and stuff. then we drove to osaka to get hibachi for dinner. i don’t think kevin’s parents were amused LOL... now we’ll never take them to hibachi ahah. it was an alright dinner as well because the food wasn’t cooked as well as it was the last time we went. kevin got a bit irritated at his family so the rest of the night was meh. we drove to harvard square, chilled there for a bit, and then kevin drove his family back to the hotel. oh, i got everyone to try speculoos! none of them had it before and there was a trader joe’s nearby. kevin and i stayed up doing laundry. he read fanfic and i talked to people on messenger and watched youtube videos. i think we ended up going to sleep at like 3 am. @_@; it’s a been a long day ahah.
