When I was a kid my parents were super lenient about media but P/okemon was banned in my house for endorsing slavery and animal cruelty so I used to sneak around to my friends' house to watch it every day after school

i think there’s something so fucked up about the fact that when TV shows lose the rights to the various music they have in their shows, they’re contractually obligated to remove them from old episode that have already aired in future releases in streaming or DVDs

I’m rewatching an old show from the late 90s (not on any legal platform✌️) that has close captions on that also follows the background music, but clearly the video itself comes from newer releases of the show, because not only the theme song is absent from the generic (and i know they lost the rights to that song by the last season, but it was there in every season before that), but sometimes the subs of the lyrics of the song playing is just, not the same at all than the music playing. 

I also know it happened to like, Supernatural where they retroactively lost the rights to an AC/DC song and that i remember watching the show on streaming once and be really taken aback when the song wasn’t in an episode, and i looked through the DVD i own since the late 00s and io and behold, the song was on the DVD version of the episode

it’s like in the age of streaming in general we always risk stuff to get patched later but i genuinely think it’s fucked up how if a producer lose a license they have to remove it from material that has already been released, so now if you want to know what was exactly the vision on release you must have bought the DVDs when they first released. FOMO: the DVD edition.

#that's so grim to me #like i guess in one hand i think it's neat for musician to be able to hop out of a project if they realize retroactively they don't want to #be associated to the brand and everything #but it's SO grim to me that there's really this idea of stuff can be replaced anytime now #also like speaking of 'patching' a cinematographic media #did you hear about how when D//isney acquired the right to F//ox material #they came back and edited some of the shots of some movies they took back from F//ox to make them more family friendly? #one i remember seeing around was a movie about a mermaid with long hair and at some point #she runs to the sea completely naked and since she's running her hair jumps and you see her ass #and on the D///isney+ version they added hair in CG so her ass is hiden at all time #this is also something #but it's a bit of a different situation imo #the music thing really takes me aback though #ichatalks
