Hi! I just want to say that I'm a huge fan of your stories so I'm sort of confused as to why you want to leave the fandom? If you don't mind me asking : )
Hi! First off, thank you so much!! It really means a lot <3
I'm not exactly leaving, just taking a step back and keeping my distance. I just won't be posting as much.
There's many ups and downs to being part of a fandom. In my experience, I've seen far too many people shit on other fans for simply doing what they love, whether that's making art work or fanfiction. There's only so much shit talk you can listen to before you start to feel bad when you see someone with actual feelings and a personality become the butt of the joke. I mean, these people are just having fun! And though it's not everyone's cup of tea, as long as not problematic and/or harming anyone, I don't see why someone would screen shot someone else's work and completely tear it apart behind the creator's back.
It's not just this fandom, obviously, but I'm just trying to keep my distance. After all, no one wants to their fanfiction or fanart to end up in a group chat with 5+ people talking shit about it and/or you.
Another thing to remember is that the TOH fandom is mainly composed of teenagers. I'm 21 and my childhood was lost to situations I will not disclose lol. However, I'm alright with admitting that I'm a bit on the older side and obviously won't always be on the same mental level as your regular fan. That's fine. But I'm pretty sure you're supposed to learn about basic human kindness at an even younger age?
Idk tho.

@gontagokuhara-week Day 1 - protector / gentleman
V3-4's tricky for me to talk about for one or two reasons, but one thing I can say is that Gonta intentionally throwing away his dream of being a gentleman - something he ties everything about himself around - in order to protect everyone from the truth... to me that's one of the most underrated yet coolest things in V3.
It's still technically his birthday where I am, but this feels a smidge dark for that, so there's a more celebratory birthday variant of this on my twitter!
(I can only do a bit of Gonta Gokuhara Week, but I should hopefully have some stuff for the last two or three days ^^)

actively disappointed in y'all. i saw the "cohost mod is into cub porn" post reblogged uncritically on my dash a few times and was like hmm seems kinda flimsy so will not be reblogging. but to find out that the main target of the accusations in that post is a trans woman and that the accusations were really as unsubstantiated as they seemed... now of all times, in a conversation about leaving the site that was precipitated by spurious claims of sexual deviancy against trans women... i'm sorry but you simply can't be holding onto the whole "reblog warning posts about so-and-so being a sexual deviant" mindset even if you claim "oh but i won't reblog the unsubstantiated ones against trans women" cause clearly thinking that is not protection against actually doing it!

Every time you think, "Oh, I don't have [x condition], I'm basically cured!" that is the devil talking. You aren't cured, you are likely going through periods of your symptoms waning. Don't cease whatever you're doing to help yourself, like medication, for instance, because it's likely you still have the conditions or symptoms, even if you aren't noticing them as frequently or severely.

does near every single post-canon DE fic out there need to be tagged ‘Sober Harry Du Bois’? i’m getting so tired of it.
do i expect every single piece of fan content to have to fully delve into the often-depressing always-complex topic of addiction? not really. sometimes you just want to write/read a silly fluffy romance one-shot, whatever. i get it. but i think my issue is specifically with the fact that for nearly every sillyfluffy au out there, there almost must be a ‘sober harry du bois’ tag. and it does feel very slapped-on more often than not.
i think to me it is an unconscious statement that nothing *good* can ever happen to harry du bois until he is completely and permanently sober. before solving the next big case, he has to be sober. before quitting the force, he has to be sober. before falling in love with kim, he has to be sober. before accomplishing anything, starting any sort of recovery, making any life improvement, he must first be sober.
sobriety as a goal, as a journey, and honestly as a concept in of itself is not as cut and dry as so many people think it is. and i think it would serve a lot of people well if they did some introspection on the implications of how nearly every single post-canon fic that isn’t dealing directly with harry’s addiction have him as completely sober instead.
if the plot of the fic isn’t going to touch directly on harry’s substance use (and again, i’m not demanding that every single fic should), why does that mean that sober!harry must be the default?
i think i am just tired of reading a casefic, a smutty one-shot, a fantasy au, whatever, where it almost seems that before getting on with the plot, the author feels obligated to first assure us that the harry we’re reading about is a Sober Harry. it’s established with a couple lines in the exposition, probably about his improved appearance, a tag up top, and then never brought up again; a checkmarked box. like the societal image of An Addict has completely prevented people from being able to imagine a person just, continuing to live life, while still struggling with addiction.
life happens, with all of its backslides and achievements, mundanity and changes, to people with drug addictions just as much as people who don’t. is a post-canon harry who isn’t sober not worth writing about?
i think so. i think the game we all played thinks so too. in fact i think that sentiment is woven into the game’s very core. i just wish i saw that reflected in our fan content more.

One thing i wish more people would consider when watching shows/reading comics is "if the narrative doesn't treat this seriously, then maybe neither should I"... Obviously there's some nuance to it, but people forget about slapstick and asides to the audience and if I have to see one more person in the year of 2024 claim that "Winry is abusive" for lighthearted wrench visual gags I'm going to lose my mind.

Marauder Film has purchased the cinematic rights for Primordia, which is really cool, but to my dismay the promotional poster they showed for the announcement is, to mine and a few friends' observations, AI generated: the art style and anatomy is heavily inconsistent and there are a lot of nonsense details / artifacting. It doesn't look like WWS is aware of this, either:
And WWS' coder denying it, I'm going to assume out of ignorance:
I also looked a bit into the studio (initially to figure out whether this was a running trend with them), but frankly it's really difficult to find any concrete information on them at all; most of their website is made up of dead links and profiles that haven't been updated in at least two years. Even the link to Primordia on their "projects" page has been there unchanged since at least 2020, according to the Internet Archive.
That isn't necessarily a problem, considering the purchase of the cinematic rights is just the first step and I assume WWS will keep in contact with them, but from a layman's perspective it's weird how this studio doesn't have much(or any) presence film- or social media-wise.
I'm very excited to see what comes next from them, but I'm also hesitant. I'm really hoping Primordia gets the adaptation it deserves.
Here's a breakdown of a few AI tells I noticed in the poster art:

Op of the self care notes post said it was a joke that breached containment type of post, so they didn’t have those intentions, but I think they said it was a positive experience to see how many people actually cared even if that wasn’t what they had set out for originally.
i respect that completely and, like i said in my tags, i don't assume any ill intent on op's behalf, however i do still think it's an irresponsible, unsustainable and unhealthy way of seeking support or recovery. i genuinely hope that op does recover and receive all the help and support they need, and wish them nothing but the best, but i also disagree with the method used and don't think it should be encouraged or normalized for reasons i've already stated (that social media attention is very superficial and unpredictable, and that creating the impression that complete strangers are in some way responsible for your mental health without their consent, regardless of whether that was your intention, isn't really right).

tbh it sucks so much we're limited by language barriers and other stuff. there are so many things and themes i'd like to mention, but only a bunch of people will understand. if a classic is written in a language different from english it's a hassle to get people from other counties to read it. sometimes it's translated without a care, sloppily, from a language that wasn't even the original one. sometimes it isn't even translated at all, left in obscurity

Callout posts are absolute bullshit.
Callout posts made about teenagers is extra bullshit.
Callout posts made about teenagers BY teenagers is extra MEGA bullshit.
Look guys. Everyone says and does stupid shit as teenagers and young adults. We all fuck up. We all learn. We all grow and change.
Y'know what callout posts achieve? Nothing. Let's call it what it is: it's bullying. Hard stop. That's what the majority of callout posts are. I lived through the hell that was tumblr's callout blog days! I saw the stalking, harassment, and abuse firsthand! I saw how the people subjected to this shit spiraled into paranoia and fear! And guess what? None of it ever did an iota of good. All it did was serve to hinder growth, isolate and traumatize people, and make a huge public display of personal shit that could have, and should have, been dealt with and discussed privately.
Callout culture is disgustingly toxic. This obsession with "receipts", the nitpicking and pulling apart apologies to see if they're "genuine" enough, the intentional twisting of words, the assumptions and accusations, the willingness to throw people under the bus to make yourself look morally superior... You may as well set up the pillory while you're at it, since you seem so keen on public humiliation.
Look. Are there some situations where a PSA is necessary? Maybe. But when it's teenagers making long, detailed callout posts about other teenagers? Absolutely not.
Learn to communicate! Accept that you're going to make mistakes! Respect each other as people! Be willing to make reasonable compromises! Be honest and straightforward with your feelings! Set firm boundaries!
It's okay to have disagreements! Just don't go airing out dirty laundry in public spaces just to feel like you're proving a point.

Whenever I see someone being transphobic on twt in a bridget thread i reply with three pictures of my mains: ky kiske from ac+r, ky kiske from rev 2, and ky kiske from strive.
it self selects for people who actually play the game. it’s canon that he’ll fight off transphobes with the blade. and if they actually played guilty gear they’d get the underlining messages
While it can be really funny to bully these guys back, please keep in mind that nothing you can say or do to these people will hurt them or waste as much of their time as what they say will stick with you or waste your time. It might be funny to send them a bunch of Ky pictures, but what they're doing is laughing that the only response the people they hate can give them is sending a bunch of pictures of anime boys.
The only thing that works is blocking them. They've turned being an asshole into a recreational sport and getting any sort of response in return is a victory for them.

tiktok is obviously awful about aging & tries to make any physical sign of it seem like a bad thing. but some tumblr users are also very weird towards anyone in their 30's (or older) & make it out like having fandom interests or just. being on the internet past your 20's is Cringe & somehow makes you into a child predator

im of the opinion that some of the original criticisms posted on tumblr were legit worth thinking about but to hear that it just turned into a complete dogpile on twitter is really disappointing :/ why i dont use that site ig lmao
yeah, i've just seen so many of these callout posts inevitably end up as a dogpile. no matter how much you label a post as "do not harass this person", the action of making the post in the first place, putting it in front of an audience, condemning actions as morally bad rather than thinking of them as mistakes someone can learn from, it just. doesn't ever end well, especially not when the person making the callout post views getting blocked by the person they're calling out as "winning". so often, this shit is seen as a way to gain internet points rather than as a way to actually open up any kind of a dialogue with people.
it creates such an atmosphere of fear where people are afraid of fucking up - and they shouldn't be! nobody is ever going to handle something perfectly, and no group of people will ever agree on what the right way to handle something is. people should be allowed to fuck up and be told it in a way that isn't instantly hostile. it primes an environment where people are so, so quick to distance themselves based on any allegations without reading into the motives of the person making them, all out of fear of being associated w that person and so called out themselves.
and it's got to the point with those kinds of posts now where such heavy fucking terms are misused and it waters down any actual accusations that people make. bc there's stuff like what happened in the last week w silvercistern that could have been handled in private or by distancing from her if she didn't take criticism well, vs like genuinely horrific shit that should be called out like the whole ukulele apology video situation.
