Snippet under the cut

“Nikadros has invited us to the opening of his new restaurant. Chtapódi.” Auguste’s flat tone belies his interest. Laurent’s lip curls as he waits for his brother to inevitably continue. “Some fancy Akielon place on Mirabeau.”

Laurent sighs, adjusting his wrist upon his knee. Auguste is watching him, face partially illuminated by his phone screen. “How pedestrian.” Laurent’s boredom is authentic. 

“Will you go?” 

Laurent dislikes the way Auguste smiles at him. 

“When?” 

Silence. And then: “Tonight.”

“Auguste—”

“Damen will be there.” The words come in a rush. Auguste, apparently, has moved past his dramatic pauses. 

Laurent is careful, ascetic in his tone, his posture, every wisp of hair. “And you believe I care about Damianos of Akielos’ whereabouts tonight.”

“I know you do,” Auguste says, thumbs flying across his phone screen. 

Laurent heaves another sigh, uncrossing his legs and standing elegantly from Auguste’s deep-seated navy sofa. 

“We’re taking separate vehicles,” he states, straight-backed and collected as he leaves his brother in the living room.

3. how you feel about your current WIP

both pleased and frustrated - i think so far it is really, really good, but i'm frustrated that i'm very, very sick irl atm and it's hindering my ability to get through the final 1k before posting. i'm finding it very easy overall atm to feel overwhelmed by what i want to write, my actual writing obligations, and my other obligations on top of my health.

4. a story idea you haven't written yet

there's a few! uhhh so fair i keep threatening to write, in order:

the horrible dune canon divergence where feyd-rautha and paul got married and, rather than it fixing anything, it ended up destroying half the galaxy, just differently.

there's a pwp with heihua from dmbj and overstimulation and the idea of xiao hua as a belligerent sub (while still keeping it in character) that i've been planning out the logistics and choreography of for a while now, but honestly, i find with pwp that, like, i get midway through and then immediately start to realise i've signed up for what isn't a fun little sprint but a marathon. worthwhile, but still a marathon.

with mysterious lotus casebook, i have an idea for a postcanon fic centering the rise of fang duobing as a young hero in the jianghu, and the resulting politics. but i know in my soul that'll be, like, 6 chapters, and i've told myself i need to finish another fic or have a few chapters ready to go before i start yet another wip.

a heihua character study involving sex pollen and the mental politics of domination when you're a person who historically has dicey relationships to power and subjugation. i also know it'd be about 10-15k easily to do it justice. there's a pattern here jhfghgfh

12. a trope you're really into right now

i'm going to say sex pollen, because of my current original short story that's going to be in duck print press' upcoming many hands anthology. i think there's something confronting to the concept about how we lie to ourselves when it comes to desire.

14. where do you get your inspiration?

i go to museums and art galleries all the time, and i also listen to podcasts on sociology, history, economics, criminology, etc, so i think i end up gaining a lot of inspiration from those!!

Looking forward to: spring, I can't wait to see flowers again and the green on trees and everything coming to live again. Also my next vacation and trying out the Live Drawing session, hopefully, next week, though I still have to figure out the logistics of it all.

Updates in bookbinding:

BOOKPRESS!!! yes it's kind of bad bc it's 2 $5 cutting boards from walmart and some screw c-clamps but im EXCITED to have smth better than. a large stack of books piled on top of each other.

currently being pressed is Scared to Live (But I'm Scared to Die) by @major816 bc its what i managed to get to the printing stage first! I'm gonna be sewing tomorrow since I'm only working a half-day so wish me luck with that :')

and for printing stage... well...

let's say I've had quite a time figuring that out

something something my printer was only like $40 and among the things it lacks, including the ability to actually do printing on both sides automatically (I could cry)(actually I did cry), i have also learned it likes to do scaling when printing in booklet :) which is why I've been having such a difficult time with the huge margins and tiny fonts and printing 2789 signatures trying to fix the issue as you can see above :)

with Scared to Live, I did the typeset for it which meant I had a lot of ability to edit the original document in order to fix the issues presented by my printer, which meant ultimately there were only ~6-7 test prints to fix it.

Even In Another Time by @irregularcollapse however. well. she did the typeset herself and shared it and i have spent so much time staring at it bc it's so pretty and i adore it. however that meant I only had the pdf version and pdf is infamous for being basically uneditable. which has been fun.

outside of staring listless at my computer, I also got help from my dad, and then help from a family friend who does printing semi-professionally (among other things), and we Still Didn't Kniw What To Do. eventually I caved and got the adobe free trial and FINALLY I fixed the issue. So yay! EIAT is next to be printed, possibly tomorrow or over the weekend :)

now i need to find a place to recycle paper. bc I have So Much.

#also need to look for a place to trim the edges bc quite frankly i dont think ill be able to without fucking up my nice paper #which i am Unwilling to do #also phlegmatuc when you see this i know i couldve asked you and we mightve been able to work it out #but aside from the many pages of paper and ink and the much frustration i mostly wanted to figure it out #in case i run into the same issue again later when i cant just ask the person who made the typeset!! and i did figure it out so im happy :) #tho idl what ill do about having to pay for adobe.... maybe ill just pay for like. a month at a time when i have to fjsjjf #or ill just try and make more of my own typsets. we'll see. #anywho #<3 #shh ac #adventures in bookbinding #big post but also! big updates and im happy and proud #also also i acknowledge that a LOT of binders - especially early on - have book presses like this so im happy with it
