This Art Nouveau Bridal Inspiration Shoot at The Dorian is Styling Goals March 30, 2018 | juliette
Beautiful things happen when designers stretch the bounds of creativity, like in this bridal shoot at The Dorian designed by Olea & Fig Studio. The glamorous hotel was the perfect backdrop for this shoot that blurred the line between the bold, sleek style of Art Decor and the naturalistic, ornamental design of Art Nouveau.

My poster covers the three concepts, homonormativity, assimilation and symbolism. Creating this poster was a bit challenging because it was hard to pick which aspects of my life fit the best into each of these concepts that I chose. So I stuck with the biggest title that I can name myself which is being a queer woman of color. Though it was hard to pick certain photos for each concept, I believe these would be the easiest pictures to explain why I chose these notions. For the photo where I can be seen in my dance uniform, I chose it to apply to the concept of assimilation, because assimilation is when you gain knowledge on something you're interested in to fully understand it. For me performing has always been something dear to me, but I never got serious about it until my last year of high school where I joined the dance team through multiple tryouts even when I wasn't the best at dancing at first. Even after highschool I tried to further my knowledge of dancing by taking a dance course on hip history here at East Bay. The picture at the bottom left of my poster to me represents homonormativity. It took quite a while to accept myself and come out and understand my sexuality, especially since there weren’t many queer people of color on a lot of the shows I watched or even a lot of the artists I enjoyed listening to. The picture that I chose, is an image of my first ever girlfriend, who together we were a biracial queer cis female couple. I chose this to dismiss the usual homonormative representation put on queer couples, such as white cis women or butch and femme lesbian couples etc. This was important for me because there weren’t a lot of LGBTQ people or couples at my school and if there were they were biracial, so for me this image is a representation for all of them including myself. Lastly, I chose this picture of Beyonce as the “We Can Do It!” propaganda poster during World War II. The original picture features Naomi Parker Fraley, and this poster was made to be an inspo to boost female worker morale during the World War II era. I specifically chose this picture especially with Beyonce on the cover to symbolize me being a strong independent Black woman just like her. These three concepts inspired me because they were the most relatable concepts that can describe almost all of who I am and the most personal parts of me.
