Living Better Than Kings & Cowboys! (A reflection on God’s grace and being thankful)

Sometimes I stop to reflect on all the blessings we have been given in life. Today we are living better than most kings throughout the ages. Heck! Even 100 years ago, life in America and around the globe was drastically different. We have amenities and modern conveniences that people only dreamed of in the past. We have heat and electricity, clean running water, sanitation, appliances, clothing and access to different foods from around the world all year long. The list goes on and on.... I sometimes wonder if I would have survived if I was born in the Wild West or during the Dark Ages: PROBABLY NOT!

It’s all to easy to get discouraged when we look to others; comparison is destructive and only leads to depression. Social media gives us a false perception of reality. We cannot judge our life by someone else’s highlights reel or their greatest hits album. Television & entertainment also give us a distorted view that does not, in any way, reflect the complexities of real. Have you ever noticed that in TV shows and movies people live in the most amazing house, with ultra expensive modern furniture, even if they are in their 20’s and 30’s and have a low paying job? Also, that no matter how big the problem, a sitcom can resolve all the worked problems by the end of a 20-minute episode.

Being thankful is extremely important! I want to have a right perspective and try not to take for granted all the things I have been given and allowed to do in this life. We are truly blessed in so many ways! I Thankful to God for the things that matter the most.... if you have some family or a few good friends, a roof over your head, a warm place to live and clean clothes, food in the fridge; well that’s more than most people have in the world. I have heard a few people say that being thankful and practicing gratefulness will change your life; so I started trying to find 5 things each day that I am appreciative of in my life.
