I saw someone say you cant be South Asian and declare yourself British, as its a traitor. (They werent joking which seemed like they were)

Im south asian but born in the UK i do call myself British like most people I know do or they call themselves either Asian, or English. They choose whatever they identify themselevs with.

I understand what the trauma the British did when they left my great grandparents birth home.

(We dont learn much about the British Empire in secondary education)

Anyone else from scotland, wales and Ireland were taught different from what we were taught in school.

I always wondered what other countries were taught about the British?

Two things here.

My close friend is a history teacher in London (she is Sri Lankan) and we got to talking about how the kids there barely learn about the British empire and the colonization. Like we (in each country) learn so much about what happened to our countries when we won the British role and how it changed us for better or worse (mostly worse). it’s blowing that the kids in the UK don’t learn this. But not surprising.

The other thing is a lot of people confuse nationality with race. Your nationality is British. Your race (or ethnicity in some cultures) is South Asian (or specially Indian, Sri Lankan etc). You can be both. You can choose the one you identify with. There is nothing wrong with it. People who tell other people who they should identify are fucking weird 🙃

ok first of all im not indian or pakistani, im sri lankan. so i dont know much about the partition BUT i know the struggle of being under the british rule cuz my country was also invaded by british for over a hundred years. and lemme tell ya it was bloody, lot of dirty politics and LOT OF innocent people died. in conclusion british rule messed up south asian countries ALOT.

so as i said idk alot bout the partition but dude.... watching it in ms marvel was hard, like i know this was real and having lived through a 30 yr long civil war.... it was triggering. BUT i cannot imagine how hard it was for everyone who had to go through that struggle. i mean having to say goodbye to ur loved ones not knowing whether ull ever see them again... its fucking hard. and now knowing if ud survive the night and the uncertainity? just- no. and im thankful for marvel for showing the partition story without sugar coating it. overall marvel did a good job of showing everyone just how much the british rule messed up our countries. and this is just the surface. we learn bout how the british killed our people and the unspeakable stuff they did to our families at school and its very rarely the western countries get to know our struggle (NO HATE TOWARDS U GUYS CUZ ITS NOT UR FAULT AND UR GUYS R AWESOME)

DRIVER 1: Guy from (Spain or Netherlands?). The legacy racer. The first in 3 generations to race. Has a huge passion for it, very proud of his family and their legacy.

DRIVER 2: Girl from SK. Heiress who decided to join a team just because she wanted to. Her family started to lose money not long after she signed a contract with the team. The team wanted to cut her from the contract, but decided to let her stay for a season because 1) legal reasons for the contract, 2) she's not a bad driver.

DRIVER 3: Latino-American (or Brazilian? havent decided what country exactly. south america). guy from San Diego. His friend dragged him to an F1 Grand Prix one (1) time and he got hooked. The kind of guy that learned crypto/investing and hit it big just so he could become a pro racer. He's actually not that bad at racing either.

DRIVER 4: Sri Lankan dude who got crazy lucky and got promoted from a team mechanic to a driver when one of the drivers suddenly couldn't race and he got strapped in instead lmao.

DRIVER 5 (backup/switchout driver): British guy who lived his whole life in London. His parents were big into racing and primed him to be an F1 racer. New money but big money. He has flaming crushes on drivers 3 + 4.

DRIVER 6: Italian girl whose dad is some CEO and whose uncle makes a crap ton of money through illicit means. Initially got into racing as a rebel move when she was in her late teens with a car on a practice track, but really fell in love with it.

DRIVER 7: Chinese girl whose dad was a team principal once upon a time. Didn't really want to be a driver but it made her dad happy. Is trying to get through her premed track on the side. Her mom gets really anxious whenever she races because the danger the injuries.

DRIVER 8: Childhood friends with Driver 1, they became racers together (Driver 1 sponsored Driver 8 cuz 8 doesn't come from money or a racing background). He actually turned out to be really freaking good at racing. Has fun with it.

DRIVER 9: They're this Dutch guy that doesn't really talk (unless he's on the track). Communicates in smiles and smirks and eyebrow gestures. Super sassy. They started racing as a way to escape when things got bad for them and they stuck with it since.

Seeing how old guys betting loads of moneys while getting their fat feet massaged left an impression. We are very lucky to be able to be so happy about a little win and some good food!
