i have this deranged headcanon that had annabeth died while percy had the Curse he would have been forced to ascend, and the poisonous air slowly killing her in tartarus was bringing him closer and closer to divinity as his mortal tether slowly started to wither

oh my god. look this is sincerely the coolest take on that entire dynamic and we can be deranged (complimentary) together because I sincerely believe that if mortals cannot survive tartarus for an extended period of time, you either die or become something other and we were witnessing that happen in real time to Annabeth and Percy respectively, and this hypothetical just adds a whole other layer to it. the notion that the mortal tie that bound them becoming their very undoing...

I like to think they had a thing back in their 20‘s.

Theo was an early 20’s somewhat socially adjusted guy, who was charmed by a little older yet socially awkward Lapin, a chocolate bunny scholar. In secret Lapin would sit next to him, healing Theo’s wound from the battle and listening to everything Theo talking about, from happiness to sorrow and troubles. Lapin often gave him many good advices.

Young Theo was completely filled with admiration and adoration for Lapin. And Lapin always acted ever so slightly soft with Theo.

Being a young man, Theo was willing to throw all his responsibility away, so they could be together officially... by the Bulb or whatever gods there may be. Yet the bunny didn’t say a thing, but ask Theo to break up on the spot

Thus that’s the reason Theo felt resentment to Lapin out of heartbreak, interpreted Lapin’s disdain for their relationship as a manipulation on Lapin’s part. He started bickering the chancellor with the smallest ridiculous stuff. It’s kind of annoying that Lapin liked to one up him and seemingly enjoying their weird arguments. Until it became their routine… and slowly Theo doesn’t really remember or care of their young love anymore.

But Lapin always loved Theo, in his own weird way. Being basically raised and manipulated by the Sugar Plum Fairy, it made him unable to show affection (or it’s just in his personality I guess cuz he’s a weird little guy). He couldn’t be with Theo even he wanted to, since it meant he would put himself, and by extension Theo, in danger to not following wishes of the Fey.

So I don’t know, maybe for Lapin thought being around Theo was good enough. Unlike everyone else he didn’t have a choice in the first place, to live, to love nor to be free.

He could only wish for changes…
