this is actually from very early, like, within the first few months i was in boueibu fandom?? (man i actually felt like it was a bit later bc i remember wanting to do it for a long time before i finally did, but i was making So much back then that i guess it felt later even though it was only after a few months. i guess bc it was a couple months after the series ended. i had probably wanted to do it around the time we first saw dark aurite)

i dont know if you were already following me that early, bc i remember you first saying something to me around the time of the crossdressing pretty boy contest and my (possibly wrong) memory of that is it happened about half a year into my Boueibu Experience (TM)... apparently this one happened After akoya’s birthday though, which means it was after the bra thing, bc akoya was wearing a bra in his birthday pic 🥺 (but it was so subtle no one noticed until i pointed it out years later lmaoo)

it’s PINK and has beautiful pictures on the cover inside of cute little riceball shapes!!!! 🍙🍙🍙🍙 it has a gentle, thankful feeling to look at, like looking into a window on all the seasons and the warm scenes of friendship and family--the words printed on simple, solid white feel so solemn and grateful all at once T--T i can’t stress enough that the presentation of this zine is GORGEOUS, everything is so carefully and beautifully packaged that i really feel like every item is a precious treasure that is looked after with loving care..!! \;;A;;/

akito is leading the march and kyo and tohru at the back look so happy together, momiji’s energy is so precious (even if kisa seems a little shy or surprised by it), ayame being extra and hatori putting up with it as usual, shigure probably making some joke to kureno and kagura full of energy as usual, rin is leaning over the bridge away from the others--she and hiro look a little aloof about everyone’s commotion--but yuki looks so lively and engaged talking with haru, and even ritsu seems calm and at peace! EVERYTHING IS SO SWEET AND BEAUTIFUL IM CRYING???!!! the die-cut stickers by samairu are so gorgeously detailed and smooth, i love how close and cozy the characters look framed in the circle windows, and the rich colors really make me feel the bright spring day and deep autumn night!

the school defense force stickers by sleepy-crayonn are so expressive, i love how each character portrait shows their personalities matched with a season, and the hilarious mini reaction images?! XD the little festival stickers by dewream are sooo precious everyone is so soft and cute and tiny!!! >////< (TRUE TO HIS NATURE KYO CAUGHT A FISH) tohru is so happy and i love how gracefully yuki holds that fan!!

this postcard by @lumiiki is just SHEER JOY AND BRIGHTNESS everyone so happy together on a sunny day, the boys looking on contentedly at tohru with her arms full of flowers as she just radiates happiness!! i love the detail in her flowers and straw hat, the strong shading makes it feel like the sun is really really bright!! TuT

@vitaminpop‘s art style is so ABSOLUTELY PRECIOUS i treasure these tiny little furuba cards so much???? everyone is SO SOFT i love the light inner outlines and highlights around the edges, tohru here with a big smile and flowers for everyone, yuki with this sweet little smile so tenderly holding the fresh strawberries he put so much work into growing himself, covered in dirt still from tending them but radiating this soft joy from the care he’s poured in T---T kyo so casually eating his food his big unconcerned eyes are so precious, shigure just taking his hat off like he’s come in from the cold, his smile is so soft;;

You were thankful it was winter. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have had enough time to replay those few seconds in your mind once more.

The smile on your face slipped slightly when you realized it was snowing out. As much as you loved the snow, it wasn’t fair enough weather for Jaebeom to visit later at night. You get out of bed and stretch unenergetically, disappointed your meeting with him would be postponed again.

As you go through your morning routine, all you could think about was seeing him again.

You wanted to ask him what all that was about, whether that was a long time coming or a spur of the moment thing. You wanted explanations and you also wanted to explain. You longed for him, and maybe you were also hoping to relive that moment but without any pressure from villagers bent on putting him in jail.

When the cat’s close enough to you, you notice the ribbon tied around its leg, securing a rolled up piece of paper. Intrigued and hopeful, you squat down and gently take the message from your cat. She walks off the moment she’s free while you shift to sit on the floor.

I shall steal from you at midnight, it reads, JB.

You never thought you would be excited by the thought of someone breaking into your house and stealing from you.

A smile takes over your face, happiness seeping into your features. The thought of finally seeing Jaebeom was enough to get you up and running, finishing the last of your routine and heading out to make sure all the work you’d need to do was finished in time for you to prepare for later that night.

The day passes by quickly as you run around the town, providing help wherever help was needed. To the townsfolk, this was just who you were – eager and happy to lend a helping hand, committed to the lifelong job of service her mother had left her.

To Bambam, however, your excitement was obviously something more than your usual kindness.

“So,” he starts as the two of you set down your crates. He looks at you closely, noting your smile and your glimmering eyes, concluding that there’s something with you today. “What’s up?”

“The sky?”

“We’ve outgrown that.”

“I know,” you chuckle. It dies down when you see the way he was looking at you though, as if he knows.

That’s when your nervousness starts.

Your mind races, thinking of an excuse as he scrutinizes you. Even during that night, you had thought that maybe he was onto something, but you had been in a blissful and emotional state then. Now, you were fearful of what he might think, what he might know.

“Say,” he says finally, “want to hang out tonight?”

You shake your head almost immediately. “I’ve got a lot to do later.”

“Need some help with that?” he offers, but you’re quick to refuse once more.

“I’d rather do it alone,” you say defensively. You aren’t aware you’ve taken a step backward, but he is, and that was enough for him.

There’s a silence between you and your once lover before he quietly asks, “Does he make you happy?”

“Who?” He frowns at you as if to say, Do you really think that could fool me? You feel silly; Bambam was also your best friend, someone who knows you well.

You decide to give up and simply nod slowly. “Yeah. He does. A lot.”

It hits you too late that you were confessing you liked someone else to a person you once almost had a relationship with. Blushing at the realization, you look down. “Sorry.”

“Don’t be sorry for being in love,” he says softly, but you could also hear the awkwardness in his voice. He clears his throat and continues, “As long as whoever he is makes you happy and treats you right, I’m happy for you, (Y/N). I really am.”

His sincerity convinces you to direct your gaze from the ground to his small smile and then to his eyes. You try not to wince at the obvious sadness mixed with his gentle stare, but you know he meant what he said. He always did.

Suddenly feeling emotional, you hurry to him and do a small jump to wrap your arms around his neck. He doesn’t hesitate to hug you back, and you stay in that position for a while, your heart beats saying all that needed to be said.

You’re quite teary-eyed when you pull away. “Thank you,” you say, “for everything.”

“It’s like you’re saying goodbye,” he laughs, though you know he’s also feeling a rush of emotions.

“I’m just saying thank you, Bambam,” you say, “Know the difference.”

The two of you burst at that, and you’re energized to lift heavy crates once more. It’s dusk when you finish and he walks you home after successfully convincing you to have at least one drink with him.

You’ve missed being with him like this, as friends and without you constantly thinking about

hiding your feelings for him and whether or not he has feelings for you. It was just the two of you hanging out and having fun like you used to.

“Are you sure you don’t need help preparing whatever?” he asks for the nth time as you stop outside your door. You shake your head and he sighs in mock defeat. “Well, will you tell me about it tomorrow?”

“I’ll think about it,” you hum, though he knew from your grin that you probably wouldn’t talk about it to him for a long time. “You should go home now so I could start doing my stuff.”

“Oh, you want me gone gone, huh?” he asks, feigning pain and even clutching at his heart to add dramatic effect. “That’s not a nice way to talk to your best friend. You’re hurting me.”

You smack him playfully as you laugh. “Stop being such a drama queen, Bambam!”

“At least you call me royalty.” Smack! “Okay, okay! Geez, woman! You’re so strong.”

“It’s from working,” you tell him, “Something I believe you,” you push a finger into his chest, “should start doing too.”

“I’ll live my life carefree for as long as I can,” he says, “and then I’ll start working.”

“You should start tomorrow.”

“I can still live carefree tomorrow.” He catches you by the wrist just in time to save himself from another hit, but you use your other hand to do it instead. “That hurts!”

“As it should!”

“I’m leaving now,” he chuckles, “I don’t want to be near your hitting machines.”

“They’re hands, Bambam.”

“I’m leaving!” he calls out, already walking away and putting his hands into his pockets. You laugh as he goes and, just before he turns the corner, he makes sure to wish you luck for the night.

As soon as he’s gone, you enter your house and you’re met with darkness.

When you open the lights, you find Jaebeom seated on a chair, looking bored as he played with an empty glass. From the little bits of water still left in it, you assume he’d drank from it just now while waiting for you.

Confused, you look at the time. 10:10PM.

“I couldn’t wait,” he says, as if reading your mind, pulling your attention back to him. “I thought you felt the same.” There’s disappointment in his voice as he sets down the glass and turns to you.

Under the pressure of his gaze, you say what’s on the top of your head. “It’s still so early, Jaebeom. You could get caught.”

“Will you turn me in?”

“Of course not,” you say, shaking your head violently to add emphasis. “If I had wanted to turn you in, I would have done it then.”

You see in his eyes that he’s acknowledged your wish to change the subject but he remains silent, even moving his gaze away from you and to the glass on the table.

“Jaebeom,” you start, unable to take a moment more of waiting, “we need to talk about it. About everything. You can’t keep running away from the discussion forever.”

“I can.”

“But will you?” You look at him with a plea in your eyes, desperately wanting him to say he won’t, wanting him to say anything, really. You sigh when he doesn’t even open his mouth to speak.

You take the seat across him; his eyes flick to you briefly but he says nothing. He doesn’t even look like he wants to talk. “But why is here then?” you think, a frown coming to your face as you try to figure him out, “He doesn’t want to talk but he isn’t leaving either.”

“Why do you put up with me?” he suddenly asks, and you’re pulled from your contemplating. Jaebeom still refuses to face you, but at least he said something. “I’m a thief, (Y/N). A no-good thief.”

“You’re also a kind person,” you tell him, “who likes to cook and read and sing and dance and make corny jokes and,” you trail off, struggling to come up with more things to say but also feeling embarrassed at saying too much. “You’re more than just a ‘no-good thief,’ Jaebeom,” you finally say, and there’s silence again.

“But that doesn’t make me any less of a thief,” he says. “Doesn’t it make you feel uneasy? That you’re friends with a criminal? Isn’t it scaring you away from me?”

“If those were supposed to scare me away from you, I wouldn’t be having this conversation with you.”

“What if people find out about us?” he asks. “They’d think you were helping me escape because I’m your friend.”

“They aren’t wrong.”

“Wouldn’t it destroy you? If all the people who once looked up to and trusted in you suddenly turn against you and treat you like you’re nothing?”

“Well, it would hurt-“

“Then why?” He’s raised his tone. “Why are you still with me like this when you know it’s going to bring you pain?” You’re shocked when he stands up, obviously frustrated and looking at anywhere but you. “I can’t protect you, (Y/N). I can’t beat up people who hurt you, I can’t get out there and help you with your work, I can’t do anything for you.”

“I can’t hold your hand in public,” he continues,” can’t take you on dates, can’t buy you things you need, can’t show other people you’re mine, can’t profess my love for you-“

He stops abruptly, eyes widening as he takes in his words. You’re stunned, too, but you’re happier than anything.

“I’m yours, huh?”

“Wait, (Y/N)-“

“That’s a nice nickname,” you say, cutting him off and watching his jaw drop even more. “Could we make it like a couple thing? I’m yours, you’re mine? Something like that?”

There’s a hint of a smile on his face at that but, when he turns to you, it’s gone and he just sighs. “(Y/N),” he starts gently, taking your hand in his and pulling you a step closer to him. “I like you. A lot.”

“I do too.”

He blushes but he goes on, “I can’t do anything more for you. I like you, you like me, but that… that’s just it. Those are only feelings and words; I can’t do much action on it, especially in public.”

“It’s alright,” you say softly and as convincingly as you can. “You being with me is enough. The two of us like this,” you take a step close to him and give his hand a little squeeze, “is enough.”

His eyes search yours for signs of anything negative; he was afraid, you could tell. “Jaebeom,” you say in an attempt to cut through his worried thoughts, “You’re enough.”

“Will you think the same in the future?” he asks. “Will you still think I’m enough if this town turns you away for being with me?”

“I will,” you say, and even you’re surprised by how fast you replied, but you realize you mean it. You really did.

When he realizes that too, a small smile on his face slowly grows until his eyes were gone and happiness was laced in all his features. Then, he pulls you to him in a tight hug, as if transferring that joy to you with physical contact.

“You know,” he says after a while, and you hum into his chest, “The ‘steal’ in my note to you had two meanings.” You hum again, a curious sound this time, wordlessly asking him to explain. “I would either steal your heart,” he says, and he feels you smile into him, “or steal away from you.”

“Like run away?”

“Yeah.”

“I’m glad you did the first,” you tell him, pulling away to look up and beam at him.

“I’m glad I did too,” he mirrors your smile.

“Gosh,” he groans, “I feel like a fool for hesitating-“

“Good.”

“But can I kiss you?” His question surprises you as much as his kiss that night did.

“That was my first kiss, you know,” you say, suddenly feeling the need to inform him as you think back to the night he’d kissed you so quickly.

“Oh,” he says, eyes wide in surprise as a blush creeps onto his cheeks.

You know he’s about to start apologizing and ruining the moment so you’re quick to say, “But feel free to steal as many kisses as you want from now on,” you even wink at him, “It’d be very appreciated.”

He recovers from his shock and laughs heartily, you following suit just because you feel so content and happy.

His lips were on yours before you know it and, this time, you pull him closer to you. Your hands attach to him and his on you, refusing to let each other go, especially now that you were safe and away from the rest of the town. The two of you were in another world, a world only for you.

You pull away to breathe but he keeps his forehead rested on yours. “I’m never letting you go,” he says, and you give him one energetic nod before your lips collide once more. Jaebeom holds you to him with a firm hand on your waist and another one gently caressing the side of your face.

It’s unspoken as you keep kissing but both of you know the letter you received that morning was the last he’d ever give. JB’s thieving days were over now that he’s found the greatest treasure of all, a treasure he had spent years searching for though he had no idea what it was. He held that treasure in his arms now, and that treasure was you.
