Prompt: Hallucinations

There’s no laughing gas this time. No blacking out in the waiting room. No creeping sense of you-shouldn’t-have-done-that’s or now-we’re-really-in-it’s. It’s quiet the way a wet blanket is quiet.

Miles below, the machines turn on, hissing and grinding. But it’s muffled. More feeling than sound up here. The way roots on a tree probably feel about their leaves. These leaves pollute the air with laughing gas, so maybe it’s not an apt metaphor. 

“Flower Kid?”

You didn’t hear the door to the office open. But Habit’s peering at you, eyes a faint glow in the dark.

“It’s reel-e yu?”

You nod. Habit steps out of the shadows into the slightly-brighter waiting room. He looks scared. 

Habit cups your face. God his hands are big.

“It is you,” he says, thumb rubbing over your cheek as if he still thinks you aren’t you. “Sorr-ee.”

He lets go of your face. You ask what’s got him so rattled. You leave out that this isn’t how things are supposed to go.

“U didn’t see It?”

You didn’t see anything. Except figures in the courtyard, vaguely familiar. But you don’t think that’s what he means.

Habit shudders. 

“It was there. And im the tapes.” Habit stares at something past you. “I’v seen It.”

Staring over your shoulder, there’s only those uncomfortable plastic chairs and orange wallpaper and a poster reminding you to BRUSH. There’s no shadowy figures. No ghosts lurking and waiting.

It has to be the laughing gas. 

You take Habit’s hand—god his hands are big—and lead him to the elevator. With the two of you, there’s no room for any phantom to creep in.

You press the only button that works on the panel. And you ask Habit what It looks like.

“It’s teeth,” he says, not looking at you, “rattl-ing in 1 big pile. Cavities.”

Brandon. The name slips off your tongue before you can stop it. Habit shudders next to you, holding your hand tighter.

“Like a lot of Brandon.”

That thought makes you shudder too.

THE CONCERT LOOKS SO AMAZING OH MY GOSH

oh dude, it was AMAZING. (like ok yea i’ve only ever been to 2 other concerts in my life+ a handful of local shows but) they put on a fucking SHOW there was confetti cannons not once-but twice, pyrotechnics, Brandon Flowers came out later in a shiny gold suit, the whole crowd was pumped and singing along to every song!! They even sang a new song about L.A. And when i bought the tickets back in August i caved and splurged on the early entry tickets so we were REALLY! CLOSE! and maybe its just wishful thinking??? but im pretty damn sure we made eye contact a couple times because of how god damn close we were to the stage

anyway they’ve been my favorite band since I was 10 and it felt really god damn good to be there, thank u for coming to my TED talk

agghh thank u anon,, but honestly i’ve been stuck in 2005 since like 2008 so all of my like. Core music is that sweet sweet alternative emo rock. you know, fob, panic, mcr, etc.

and since like 2014 i absolutely stan the killers. so please listen to the killers if you dont already sdfs. and if you do, check out Brandon Flowers’ solo stuff! he’s their frontman and his two records are Choice.
