So I finished watching the Hbomberguy's video on James Somerton (I'm going to watch Todd in the Shadows later). I'm someone who teaches plagiarism and misinformation, and I'll admit even I was fooled. I watched his videos, AND Illuminaughti's. Lindsay Ellis got in hot water too and disappeared, can't recall if that was plagiarism or not. I did eventually stop watching Somerton a while ago, not because of the plagiarism, but because he had this darkness and snideness that was unsettling to me, and he was putting more focus on horror which was never my bag. I much prefer Matt Baume (which Somerton apparently also stole from? I can't figure out what though, Baume's source material is just more...optimistic?). God I hope it doesn't turn out HE'S a plagiarizer, too.

Maybe I should just fucking quit YouTube?

I've started watching HBomberguy's video on plagiarism, and I'm really excited to see how he lambasts Internet Historian.

I can't speak to the overall quality of his work, but IH showed a lot of sympathy to the Proud Boys and other right wingers in the past, so I always had him pegged as a fucko. It didn't help that he also seemed like a meme-poisoned dumbass in other ways.

this plagiarism thing is really exposing a lot of people's total lack of critical thinking imo. OF COURSE somerton was a liar all along, there's a video that compiles a significant amount of his lies right here! of course these people are obviously plagiarists, there's a 4 hour long video detailing it all! everyone who didn't notice must be an idiot, unlike me, some dumbass who had never even heard of any of these people before today and has no idea how their videos actually look, how they covered up after themselves, how they snuck in lies among the truths they presented. i'm smarter than all the subscribers they fooled because i uncritically watch different creators and i'm responding to the video exposing these particular plagiarists by telling everyone that i think they sound really boring, not by examining the way i consume informative content and learning how to identify this type of behaviour in future, and CERTAINLY not by promoting those whose work was ripped off.
