Binge watching the 2017 Ducktales atm and I've recently watched the episode that introduces Faris Djinn. I haven't seen any other episodes with him but so far he was surprisingly good representation (??) At least imo as a half brownie.

At first I was expecting him to be some other Middle Eastern/Persian stereotype but I ended up being very surprised when that didn't happen. I think it's because he embodies so much of this "fOr HoNoUr AnD mY pEoPlE" thing that is seen in stereotypes, but it's not in a way that's violent. Idk I'm bad at explaining, but basically things like honour, strong ties to family/roots/tradition, stubbornness and extra-seriousnes are often used in a stereotypical way to show a Middle Eastern/Persian character as incredibly violent and insane, veerrrrrryyy similar to a terrorist.

BUT with Djinn, it's never shown in a negative way. He marks each monster in the fake trials, his determination allows him to finish his quest and he does it all in the first place for his family. It was kinda odd but also refreshing seeing aspects of my culture I never really think about represented in a regular way instead of as OOOO TERRORISTT. Idk how to describe or explain it maybe some other fellow brownies know what I'm talking about. Please comment!!

Also, I like how it didnt really end up in an orientalist route when they decided not to give him a specific culture. Definitely feels more like ATLA than Aladin. It didn't feel like they were trying to represent a bunch of cultures as one culture but instead were like here's a character whose culture is based off these cultures.

I also just like how he has a fucking character. He has motivations and dimension.

Writing this I'm realising maybe I feel this way about him because a lot of the time we either get shit or no representation. I would love to hear what other people think of him since I'm still a little conflicted and am probably overthinking. I haven't even finished the show yet or have watched any other episodes with him, so there definitely is more to his character I have not seen yet.

Edit: have just done a wee bit of research of the 1987 version of him. Thank god they changed him

I just binged your poppy playtime fanfiction and I'd just like to say I'm hooked, and will be patiently waiting more words to crunch on.

Unfortunately I am currently studying to be an engineer and it is finals season for me so I haven't been able to write much of anything ATM. However, I can numerically analyze a resistor circuit with multiple voltage sources, so that's good...I guess.

Also, from what I can tell, the green hand is a capacitor. When you hit the input node, the green hand gains a positive charge, where it is then discharged either by hitting the output node or automatically discharged by the grabpack, using what I assume to be an internal battery. While it is true that the green hand can snag electrons from the air and thus slowly discharge, the exact timing means that something within the grabpack is discharging the hand. Also, the charge from the hand would not be enough to activate anything, as the sudden discharge would only activate whatever circuit it was connected to for a second. If it was a motor, then the motor would only fire once, instead of a sustained motion. You wouldn't turn a water wheel with a bucket, even if there was a lot of water in the bucket. Thus, the green hand must only be used to deliver enough charge to activate a signal instead of delivering the power itself.

All this, just to say, there will be art with the next chapter... and maybe some electricity facts idk.

Last Song: I've been listening to a lot of video game soundtracks. I think the very last thing I listened to was Bismarck's theme from FFXIV. I think it's really neat that the boss themes in FFXIV aren't what you'd expect from boss music. Bismarck had no right to be that groovy btw. I don't know if that's the case across the rest of the Final Fantasy series as I've only played 14 & uhh Kingdom Hearts idk if that counts lol. I also have been listening to a Resident Evil Chill playlist on Spotify.

Favorite Color: You cannot ask an artist this. You just can't. I love all colors idk if that's a cop out LOL. It's probably easier for me to tell you the colors I don't like.

Last Movie/Show: I don't watch a whole lot of stuff. I think the last movie I watched was My Big Fat Greek Wedding with my one IRL. And the last show I watched was The Walking Dead with an internet friend. I kind of view watching shows and movies as a group activity I suppose? It's hard for me to sit down and watch something all the way through on my own, which is wild because I used to binge TV shows on my own when I was a teen. Plugging my Letterbox'd.

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: Maybe I'm just an indecisive person because I can't answer this one either. I think right now I prefer savory or spicy more. I eat way too many sweets and I need to cut down on that but they're the only easily-grabbable snack foods we have in the house rn 😩

Relationship Status: In a relationship.

Last Thing I Googled: Urth's Fount boss guide. It's an FFXIV base game boss and I am queueing up for it atm (been waiting for AN HOUR because it's dead content). I need it for my Wondrous Tails quest book tho 😩 As I was writing this post one of the DPS's gave up waiting...I will never forget u queue friend

Current Obsession: FFXIV i dunno if you can tell... 👉👈 I'm still sporadically playing Palia (and running a blog for it) My Dragon Age playthrough with the bf is kind of on hold because we're obsessed with/playing different games atm

Last Book: I've been trying to read more this year because after college I just don't read books anymore :( I'm currently reading Counting the Cost by Jill Duggar. I'm not religious by any means but I've found myself scrolling through Fundiesnark content and researching fundamentalist religions and cults the past few years. (they're scary)

Looking Forward To: I started up my rock-tumbling hobby again, so I'm looking forward to Wednesday when I get to check them! They will more than likely need to go through stage 1 again but it's cool checking on them and recognizing the rocks through each cycle. Also looking forward to TWD: The Ones Who Live in February, and D&D kicking back up with my group on Saturday.

As I am writing this, there's Loki beside me... he's a black cat my mom found as a small kitten a few weeks ago... he's grown and healthy and is super energetic... on my feet lies Orange, an orange cat (very creative name) and she's very pregnant and cranky and dirty and stinky idk where she's been... and downstairs we have Bun, Kratos and Old Lady, all mischievous cats...

heeey, so you keep watching the boys??? (glad you gave this show a second chance after s2 being boring af) why didn’t you write anything for the fandom tho!! there’s not enough good fics of the series and your contribution would have been priceless. // tbh i dunno what dynamics you find interesting there but when i first saw that elevator scene between starlight and homelander (he seemed so amused (and pleased?) she is the one who’s capable of spitting truth right in his face??), i thought it is right up your alley, lol

yess, i'm glad i finally got into the show! i actually liked season 2, but i binged it, so maybe my experience was different. as for ships, when it came to annie, i used to ship her with butcher, of all people; idk, i found their dynamic interesting, both of them wanting to protect hughie, butcher hating her cuz she's a supe, but also slowly learning to accept her. now that they've done butcher/maeve i'm also cool with that, but my lil heart still beats for butcher/annie for some reason! (i also love the angst of hughie/annie/butcher)

but! i do also dig the homelander/annie dynamic. especially this season with the "fake dating". i might write something for them, because they have this really interesting back and forth. i think he, at first, saw annie as a younger maeve whom he could control, sort of like getting it "right" this time, but she's pushing back more than maeve used to, so he doesn't know how to handle her atm. i will admit, i'm not that invested in them as a pair, but i'd like to explore them in a oneshot.

i'm also kind of into hughie/soldier boy, because soldier boy seems to have a weird soft spot for him? oh, and i really want to see a reunion between soldier boy and mallory because we know he's into older women and mallory feels only contempt for him which i dig lol
