neighbour sent me a live in camp counsellor job… i was debating if i wanted to do camp work this summer at my local park but like. this could be so fun. because i would have a specialty and id either go for nature or art which i think would be way better than what my job would be at the park which is just standard day camp like i dont think i would be that good at watching kids all day every day but maybe if i was doing a specialty program it would be easier yknow

Another round of thoughts on the "Izzy died like a queer-coded character from a pre-gay-lib era" theme:

Every time I check into the Izzy tag or the main OFMD tag, I see people talking about how they liked/weren't shocked by the finale because it always kinda seemed like Izzy was going to die:

The reason it seems that way is because Izzy is the kind of gay character that has, historically, gotten buried.

He's the queer-coded sidekick that has to die to make way for the straight romance, and the queer-coded villain that has to be vanquished to make room for the happy ending (which includes a straight romance).

This time, he died to make way for a gay romance. Diversity win!!! I guess????

And it isn't that anyone thinks--well, probably someone somewhere does think it, but it isn't that I think that DJenks did this because he secretly loves homophobic tropes.

I think--I mean, he's pretty much said, in the interviews--that he did it because he just kinda felt like Izzy had to die to complete his arc. And he's also said he didn't intend to write a homophobic show, what I conclude from that is that he didn't fucking notice that the reason he, IDK, just kinda always felt like Izzy had to die was because of this trope.

That's why, as of the actual filming of the fucking episode, he convinced himself he was doing the "mentor dies" trope, even though he'd never done anything to establish that kind of relationship between the two characters. Because he didn't fucking know why it just kinda seemed right for Izzy to die.

And that, my friends, means that this show is just not as smart as we built it up in our minds to be.

I wasn't even expecting it to be the show where That Character finally gets a happy ending of his own. But I was--because it is a fucking sitcom--expecting it to be one where he ended up somewhere we could imagine a happy ending for him, rather than leaving him bleeding out on the fucking pavement.

- raphs a shithead, donnie’s a bitch. therefore, they are either just… such little rapscallions when paired up together or fiercely protective. or both. depends on the day.

- uses the just most vulgar language to annoy the shit out of leonardo when he’s feeling especially evil (they have a swear jar bcs of his dumb ass.)

- raph is the youngest

- him and mikey are twins and they fight over who is older every week. despite the weekly attempts at fratricide those two are best buds. (alternatively: “well I was mutated TWO MINUTES BEFORE YOU!” *is such a little shit abt it he ends up seeming younger*)

- he helps mikey when he has anxiety attacks or meltdowns (side eyes this)

- raph is a good singer but it is a secret he will take to his grave (this is also generally hilarious to me because literally every other raph is such a bad singer but does it anyways)

This OFMD vs Black Sails debacle is the best possible proof of "Gay is not a genre" and "You cannot describe a piece of media just by listing what type of 'diverse' characters are in it."

Like, the two shows together prove that just listing out characters and going "It's gay!" isn't enough because they are extremely different in terms of tones, themes, story structure, and... just about everything besides there being gayness and pirates. Like Flint and Stede couldn't exist in the same universe, not only because Flint would gut him immediately but just... tonally, narratively they don't mesh. It'd be like trying to put a Looney Tune character into a prestige drama.

And OFMD alone shows that even if "there's like gay people and people of of color here" was a genre, it's still not enough because... quality of said representation matters. Gay people and people of color aren't getting proper representation watching two people who were part of the slave trade do a frigid, awkward kiss. A show with heavy input from a man with ongoing antiblack racism, even outside said show, isn't... a win for anyone.

So, yeah, this situation kinda proves that when you are trying to entice someone to watch or read or play something, "Lol, it's gay pirates and like... idk I guess people of color exist in it too" (because, let's be honest, it's primarily white fans who do not really care about people of color outside of using them for brownie points who do this, I am a white person and see this happen FREQUENTLY) doesn't tell anyone about what they are consuming.

And, in fact, can leave out the fact that inclusion of a 'diverse' identity doesn't mean that anyone with said identity will enjoy the show. Won't be hurt by the show. Because even if you go "Yeah, OFMD is racist but like... it's still gay! Straight homophobes won't know OFMD is canceled because of racism, they'll just celebrate because gay people lost" (which @pirate-battle is saying... like a racist would), you are ignoring that Black gay people exist.

And are hurt by people shipping and idealizing real slave owners.

Historical whitewashing via "gay shipping is always good!" is in fact... quite heinous.

So... let's all be more responsible when describing media and recognize that hiding a piece of media's atrocities behind "Don't you wanna see if next time, Taika Waititi will kiss another man WITHOUT looking like he's about to be shot in the head" is an awful thing to do.

And will only ever backfire, when you get people to watch it, and they realize how fucking awful the show is and then get pissed at you about it. Like... congrats??? You deserve the vitriol you get.

but yk you want better lip syncs?? actually pay attention to ur front runners styles of performance, rewards all styles of lip syncs, and pick ur song choices more off that.

I just listened to the two first episodes of the malevolent podcast and it's PERFECT. It starts off, for now, way livelier than tma or Welcome to Nightvale, which is okay i mean now I have different things for different moods that's kool right.

But also, uhhh no one told me it was ACTUALLY lovecraftian ??? People said tma was lovecraftian which- yeah sure I guess if you dig in the lore but that's not what you encounter in the podcast until s5- but that is actually cosmic horror creatures which I can't help but be overjoyed about <333.

ALSO also, it's timed perfectly and my autistic brain is gooeyly rumbling at that. Things aren't left unsaid and it all goes smoothly to lead a story and to advance the plot, and hey maybe it's even a bit fast I didn't expect the hand thing to happen so soon, but like every little thing seems to fall in place and mentally or emotionally or smt the characters are clearing things up. And I love that it's exactly what I like. Compared to this tma seems stuck behind always leaving things unsaid and relationships being unclear, which is a thing some people might like because it adds drama or tension or idkwhat but Listen I am too socially blind to live this as anything other than uncomfortable confusion and blame this on the autism, tma is great but malevolent podcast is winning on the approach.

Now it looks like I don't like tma which is very untrue so I have to do it justice and Aghhhh- okay so tma explores a wide diversity of horror and has amazing characters put together like the wrong pieces of a puzzle fitting together but barely. You know ??? So it creates friction and stuff, Arthur and the being in their body which I don't remember the name of are communicating and which point their relationship is at is clear to the both of them. Heck, Arthur didn't have to say anything for the eldritch being in their body to know they were thinking that the creature they had seem was them and was honest about their intention from the start.

Really love how they're emotionally present for eachother from the very start, but then again maybe it was a bit fast and I hope we'll still get development in the future ? Idk, maybe the podcast wants to focus on other things but it's a shame because they're already comfort characters sorry yeah.

It was not well written, by any stretch of the imagination. I enjoyed it satirically, don’t get me wrong, but it was BEYOND bizarre and hard to read.

okay here’s where it gets weirdly heavy.

administration assumed it was a s*icide, and then everyone was called into the gym for the intercom to say “there’s a dead person on campus. go home.” And everyone is crying and panicking (including y/n) because maria didn’t seem out of the usual. and then we get THIS LINE.

like i know this is meant to come off as like cryptic wink wink nudge nudge but it’s just. Lost. It does come off as cold, but not really knowing. silly silly boy

All in all? Funny read. I recommend if you have 40 minutes to kill.

Is it good? No. Absolutely not. I wasn’t expecting it to be. It’s a 1600 word yandere sim fandroid fic. However it had me rolling in like that giddy “this is so silly” kinda way. Maybe it’s just the hyperfixation, but it was throughly enjoyable, I would absolutely force my besties to read this against their will. like I would even draw fanart for this, it was so silly!!

GO HARDER WITH THE YANDERE!!! NOW!!! they just went for classic yandere sim yandere but you could’ve been so unique with it. focus on how y/n feels, watching as these random people & bots go missing. Hell, give us a look at fandroid slowly sprialing from bestie → crush → unhealthy obsession. tell us how he might put up a fight against the urge to kill, until he feels there is no other option. OG yandere chan was “emotionless,” but her crush gave her some sense of feeling, and that’s why she was so promective. However, this au’s fandroid isn’t like that—so… what’s with the murder? Er, well, I’m pretty sure it’s that he hated maria bc maria’s a dick, but after that… what’s the big deal? I’m pretty sure he just hated maria (understandable) but after her… who next? Her bestie? She is mentioned to have a bestie. But bestie didn’t do shit to Y/N. I mean, there’s other stalker behaviors out there, but it’s worth mentioning.

It just. Ends. It’s written like it’s supposed to continue. It doesn’t, and it was last updated September 2022 so I don’t think it ever will. sad,,,

Upon further investigation (me trying to re-find this fic through google) yandere fandroid fics are… strangely common? They’re centered majorly on Wattpad, no shock there. In context, though, it makes sense. (Cue the yandere song; we can’t talk about this fic without bringing it up at least once) Frankly, but I don’t know what I would think fandroid fics would be centered on otherwise. It makes perfect sense. It just shocked me first time I realized that. Every fandom has their keystone trope, and ours is yanderes. Good for us. Love this fandom for that.

Conclusion? Not sure. Maybe just that fandroid fanfiction silly.

This fic was a lot of fun to read, despite it’s many many flaws. Apologies if my ramblings about it made no sense, I have a lot to say.

Yes, there is a lot of not-so well written yandere Fandroid stuff. I’ve seen em but I haven’t really looked into any of em beyond a passing glance because I’m not a fan of the Yandere trope all that much and as catchy as Fandroid’s Yansim song is… him being a yandere and being one towards a reader insert just feels… weird? Like not quite right and maybe a little uncomfy.

(Though imagining him doing a murder to perceived romantic rivals only to be immediately called out by a y/n and never do it again more plausible to me. Like he’d be afraid of upsetting someone he cares about, I feel. Or maybe I’m just projecting because upsetting people I care about is my personal least favorite thing. Guilt hurts so much)

Luckily not all Fandroid Fics are “oh what if he was in love with you and totally twisted fucking cycle path about it” and stuff. There’s not a lot though…

reading the most iconic creepypastas for the very first time and reviewing them (part 1)

surprisingly, i never went through a creepypasta phase when i was younger.

so now, in the year of our lord 2022, i decided to finally deep dive into this world and share my thoughts on them.

shall we begin?

who was phone?: ...?/10. you guys should've seen my reaction when i read this and later found out it's the first creepypasta (trollpasta?) to ever exist. what the actual fuck. this is hysterical.

white with red: 6/10. pretty okay, i guess. way too simple, though.

he who should really not be named (candlejack): 4/10. diversity win! the demonic spirit who will gouge your eyes out is non-binary!

polybius: 7/10. kinda generic, but still a fun read.

the dionaea house: 9/10. i don't know what i was expecting when i started reading this, but THAT surely wasn't it. holy fucking shit, that was good!

the portraits (a.k.a. the cabin in the woods): 1/10. meh.

the rake: 6/10. not bad, but it felt a little incomplete.

candle cove: 7/10. shout out to horror stories that involve childhood nostalgia, gotta be one of my favorite genders.

1999: 8/10. same as last one.

gateway of the mind: 5/10. hm, could've been better.

herobrine: 6/10. okay so, here's the thing: i was never interested in minecraft. never played it, probably never will. but i had a childhood friend who was OBSESSED with it and every now and then i would hear him saying "herobrine". i just assumed it was like a really important item you can get in the game or, idk, something along those lines. it wasn't until last year that i found out it's a fucking creepypasta character 😭
