Ichirou Okouchi x Clamp // Suzaku Mutality artbook Novel // Canon
Those Novels were written By Ichirou Okouchi in order to fit Illustrations made by Clamp; In the Mutuality artbook he talks about how difficult of a work it was to actually come up with ideas for those while basing himself on their works and how he finally chose to write a sort of prologue to each picture;
This is the Suzaku's point of view story, happening While Lelouch, Suzaku and C.C. have gone in hiding between Turn 21 and...the end of Turn 21. When they came up with Zero requiem.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
*** My own words : Even though this picture is about Suzaku and C.C., just like within the Zero requiem, they still barely interacted.
There is also a very long interview of Mokona x Taniguchi, I'm thinking of translating it, but's it's insanely long and not everything is of interest, maybe i'll just select some part and add some of their comments about some of their illustrations.
Zero Requiem always makes me sad.

Some of Okouchi and Taniguchi's words about Kallen and Lelouch during the airing of Code Geass
Tumblr media
Animedia Magazine July 2008 did an interview about bonds between characters, with Taniguchi toward the China Arc :
Bond with C.C., bond with Nunnally, bond with Suzaku: nothing new. Bond with Shirley: Their friendship bond seems to be changing? She will have her chance to shine after Turn 11 ! Bond with Kallen: According to the director, she is an essential character. She will be captured by Suzaku in the China Arc. Check it out. Bond with Schneizel: Nothing. Only Schneizel saying "what about me?"
Translation by Koshimizu While this one doesn't tell much, that's where we got the fact Taniguchi considered Kallen an essential character, and since it was mentionned in an interview about her bond with Lelouch, you can even say she was meant to be an essential character due to her relationship to Lelouch.
Tumblr media
From Newtype, August 2008 Kouzuki Kallen - The Warrior That Continues Believing in Zero. From Terrorists To The Black Knights Trusting in Zero? or Lelouch? Live As A Japanese Meeting Nunnally and Suzaku Again Versus Knight of Rounds Luciano Back in Battlefield!
Ōkouchi: Lelouch and Kallen's relationship changes after she knows Zero's identity. Fukuyama: Well, honestly, to Lelouch, I don't think Kallen will become a love interest. *laughs* Kallen is the type that doesn't worry too much. She stands up and acts right away. When she needs an answer she asks away. I think she's a totally different type from Lelouch. Ōkouchi: Well, Lelouch is the type that worries too much. *laughs* Kallen also has two roles, Stadtfeld of Britannia and Kozuki of Japan, which she played separately in an awkward way. While Lelouch is using lies to play the role of Zero and a student separately, she's not lying in either of them. Fukuyama: Like what Kallen said in season 1, "this character setting is so wrong for me!" (in Stage 3) *laughs* Note from the translator: Don't jump to conclusions. ;) A VA's opinion doesn't affect the story's direction. Kallen's VA also picks on Zero/Fukuyama a lot off-screen. (Ōkouchi, however, is the storywriter. His opinions do matter. And it looks like he was going to say something before getting shot down. XD) Translation by Koshimizu This interview is actually pretty telling, because while Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu (Lelouch and Kallen's seiyuu) both played through the airing of the show as people who didn't ship Kallen and Lelouch (because of their playful relationship, they played a lot of role together and have a very banter/teasing kind of relationship because of that), Okouchi, writer of the show, on the other hand, tried to advocate for them in this interview (it's much clearer in japanese, that's why the translator said he tried to say something before Fukuyama countered him); He also talks about their differences and similarities while not using those to counter the possibilty of the ship so that was actually a pretty positive interview for them.
Thanks to @codegeassfacts for the interview and allowing me to post it, I had some elements but a lot were missing, if you like Geass, don't forget to check out his blog, it's filled with information about the anime, a sort of alibaba cavern !

If I may be so bold I think some G-Witch fans are overreacting a TAD bit.
Specifically the odd number of people saying that Sulemio has been "Decanonized" by this statement, or turned into "Retroactive queerbaiting". People, the company's social media saying that the relationship is "Up to interpretation" does not erase what the writers and artists put into the actual show. If you ask me the only sensible response is asking what substances Bandai is on that they consider THIS up to interpretation:
Tumblr media
If future releases of the show start removing all this THEN we can panic, but I sincerely doubt Bandai wants to do that, otherwise they wouldn't have let it happen in the first place.
I may be optimistic here but I also don't think this means they're going to be shying away from the relationship in the future like many are fearing. Iron-Blooded Orphans was featuring blatant gay content half a decade before this show and that included confirming that two women were married in an interview after the show ended, so clearly the company isn't utterly terrified of this stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a one-off incident (Which ISN'T to say that people shouldn't be angry about it by the way, I just think the wrong conclusions are being jumped to) especially since it seems to be receiving a negative reaction in both the English and Japanese spheres.
It's also worth noting that this stuff is almost certainly going on behind the scenes with a lot of franchises. Series like Nanoha and Symphogear are famously very sapphic but their lead couples have never kissed or verbally acknowledged their romantic relationship presumably because there's also men in charge who think there's more value in things being "Left to interpretation". Not saying that it being more common makes it okay. I just think that the people saying that they now want to drop the franchise over this should consider if that means they should give other franchises the same treatment. No moral consumption under capitalism and all that.
TLDR: I care more about what's in the show than whatever the PR team says. Ichirou Okouchi has been liking tweets of people praising the romance and art of the two kissing. He knows what he made.

Ladies, gents and enbies, we're getting a prequel miniseries! And Telecom's involved, so you know the animation's gonna get UH-MAY-ZING!!
Quite a bunch of Part 5's crew return for this one. We have Daisuke Sakou in the director's seat, who was the chief animation director on Part 5's divisive yet visually stunning finale (and also wrote and storyboarded the pinkjacket episode), Ichirou Okouchi returns for series composition, and character design is supplied by Asami Taguchi, who was the assistant character designer on Part 4. One interesting change is the music composer: Instead of Yuji Ohno, Otomo Yoshihide will be filling in, and judging by what we hear from the trailer, it will be harkening back to the more eclectic style of jazz from Part 1.
Needless to say, I'm beyond excited!

Ichirou Okouchi interview in Animage (November 2008) // Code Geass R2
Tumblr media
"Code Geass" is a story about seeking tomorrow
*Upper half of the page*
Lelouch vi Britannia - He understood people's desires through the World of C. That was, the desire for tomorrow. To compensate for continuing to involve the people he used geass on, he decided to carry the burden of fulfilling the wishes of the people. He sought not his own tomorrow, but the tomorrow that the world sought for.
C.C. - Her wish was to die as a human, but after spending time with Lelouch, C.C. also wished for tomorrow. She made up her mind to ensure the tomorrow of the world that Lelouch had left.
Tumblr media
Was Lelouch able to achieve happiness in the end?
Okouchi: In my opinion, the show had an Happy Ending, not a Bad one. In episode 7 of season 1, during Lelouch's conversation with C.C., there is this line: "There is no meaning to a life in which you're only just being alive." Lelouch saved his beloved sister and realized his own version of a kind world. His life had not been in vain. This is the reason why Lelouch smiled in the end.
Tumblr media
What part of Code Geass did you have to pay close attention to:
Okouchi: I wanted to make of the main character one who would continue to move forward. Of course there were times during which Lelouch would stop, and where revelations would come his way. But he would accept them (everything) and the story would continue to move, e.g., even if Lelouch felt defeat.
Is Taniguchi that sort of person?
Okouchi: Eh?
We heard that Taniguchi is similar to Lelouch.
Okouchi (laughing): I see. At the beginning of he script, I didn't especially use Taniguchi as a model. But it's true that, in trying to do something original, the personality and attitude of the the creator can be reflected in the key character/s. Like in this case, with Lelouch.
Then, Okouchi-san is also reflected in Lelouch's character?
Okouchi: That's certainly the case, and i've also been told that I had some similarities with Schneizel, as well.
I didn't think of myself as this type of scriptwriter, but looking back at my work, I am surprised and also happy that my own person -is- reflected in my work/s.
Tumblr media
How did the production of Code geass go despite the many change of plans ?
Okouchi: We wrote the initial Code Geass script with the belief it would keep the same timeslot and would still be aired at night. So, when it was slated for late broadcasting,I had to renew my plans. There was the target audience and trends to consider.
The planning team and other surrounding people felt it was risky to change our plans, since there was not enough time left. But Taniguchi-san felt the same as me, so we had to revise our plans and what you got to see was the result outcome of Code Geass.
At that time, had you already formed the idea of geass?
Okouchi: At the very beginning there was no Geass yet. Neither C.C. nor Zero were created then. The main character was an ace pilot, that was all.
Tumblr media
There were pretty big changes. Wasn't that difficult?
Okouchi : Well, while it was difficult, we chose for the better. During the story, Lelouch's next day might be worse than the current day, but his attitude would always be to aim for tomorrow. Maybe I wasn't aware before, but looking back now, this point about the main character was probably one of the things that we never revised.
One of the themes of this work is "Rebellion". Do you think Lelouch succeeded in his rebellion?
Okouchi: I think Lelouch did succeed. Despite having to face the whole world, he was able to go through until the very end.
Which thematics did you considerdepicting in the series:
Okouchi: Thematics like mecha, school, tactics, super powers, and many other things, but the first thing on my mind had to be the character named Lelouch.
The title was "Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion" after all. I wrote a script that felt like a biography of the man named Lelouch.
About the script and the feedback it got
Okouchi: I had already decided the outcome of the story from Stage 1. I talked about it with a number of the staff, but he never got their opinions back then. Even after half a year, when he had a more concrete idea of the ending, he still did not have others' opinions.
About the staff's consensus regarding the last scene (epilogue):
Okouchi : We all contemplated about we would like the epilogue to be and had a survey which resulted from us picking the ending/epilogue everyone would like.
How did you felt after completing the script:
Okouchi: I was silent after finishing the script. Because the script of Code Geass was demanding a lot on production, as much as possible, he wanted the production team to finish earlier than scheduled, but consequently, he did not feel the need to make much change.
Tumblr media
The production of Code Geass certainly seems to have taken a lot of time, didn't it?
Okouchi : Well a lot of cuts in the story had to be made, and the production team had to work really hard. Even as cuts were made, more (character and story) settings were established and the number of images that had to be drawn also increased. Characters and mecha elements were plentiful, so skillful staff were needed. Code Geass exceeded everyone's imaginations thanks to the work of the staff.
Code Geass is a story that contains many different plot/things, wasn't it very difficult to write this script ?
Okouchi: It was difficult for me, especially with the mecha and school elements. In the first place, when the story was being planned out, I had to work with many things. Compared to the first season, the stage of second season moves from Japan to a wider stage - the world. The amount of information that had to be provided definitely increased.
And at the same time, because R2 was considered a new program, we had to make adjustments for the new followers and those who were already familiar with the series from before. Because I was challenged to take the story to another level, to advance it further, it was difficult. When the outcome was decided, that was only the time were I felt confident.
Tumblr media
About the last part offering an opportunity to change the world:
Okouchi : I thought that it was nonsense to think that the world would completely change because of Lelouch's actions. The world can't be changed as easyly than that. But, if we give people a chance, they can find a direction.
Certainly, Lelouch and the others managed to end the war. However, it doesn't mean it will be an ever lasting peace. The constant efforts of the people who remain, like Nunnally, Kallen, and Zero (Suzaku), are very much needed to maintain that peace.**
**This part implies that what those who remains will do to ensure Lelouch's peace is also up to everyone's imagination
***I wasn't sure about posting this interview cause I don't own the magazine and I can't double check (some part of the translations were pretty vague and while, once again it went through trusted translators, I think there a bit fed up by all the work they had to translate back then, so some part or a bit summarized; Maybe i'll try to get this Animage and translate it correctly in the future, even though most of what was said is almost the same as what was told in the Continue interview By Okouchi that you can read there (and which is more complete) )***

This post is a summary of notes posted on Twitter by participants of the talk event 'Listening to Ten Years of Screenwriter Ichiro Okochi' held on April 17.
For more information about Okouchi, please refer to wikipedia.
In this event, he talks about many of the works he was involved in, but I will only extract the one about 'sk8'.
Note: That the source of the quote is the tree of tweets linked to this post. See also.
---------------------------------------------
For Okouchi, sk8 was the first project where he expected to have more female fans than male.
But essentially speaking, sk8 is a project for director Utsumi. Pleasing her is the most important task. It didn't have to be a hit anime, but he tried his best to write a script that would satisfy her.
Utsumi had a deep affection for the characters, and she would read the scripts his wrote and offer her opinions such as "this character would never say this" or "this is somehow not cute." etc.
However, Joe (Kojirou) and Cherry (Kaoru) were about half different from his image and hers. But Utsumi liked his image and adopted it.
Unlike many sports stories, sk8 is not a story about club activities, so it's good that both adults and young people appear in the story. Adults can't go back to the time and relationships they once had, but Reki and Langa can. That's what makes it so precious and bright.
sk8 is the story of Reki and Langa. It's about what makes them happy and what they have to overcome. So the relationship with Adam is not that important except for the "S". (He didn't give any extra description.)
Every strong character has someone who serves by their side. (About Ainosuke and Tadashi.) The presence of an entourage prevents the character from becoming just a funny or ridiculous guy. It makes the character's appearance and statements more convincing.
He thinks Code Geass and sk8 are similar, because they have love and hate at their core. Reki and Langa are different, but the adult group is quite similar.
He thought wouldn't be too long between Ep7 and Ep10, but the viewers and staff said "please make up hurry!" It was lovely and fun to see so many posts that showed how many people loved sk8.
"Successful script" is one that produces a visual work that is more interesting than the script it was written for. His already knew what it was about, but he really enjoyed watching sk8 every week. Ex: "I never thought he had such a beautiful smile in this scene!", "I never thought he would grow wings in this scene!"
sk8 is a very good anime because that went beyond the script.

Now that someone mention it...
I'm surprised. But if I looked back at the trilogy compilation movie... So that's how it were. No wonder that the movie were so focused on C.C. and Lelouch relationship. Also I remembered that Okouchi Ichirou said in Fukkatsu interview that he want to make C.C. happy. Glad that Sunrise gave them a chance and space to pour some of their ideas.
Hmm I don't know that Taniguchi and Okouchi are a shipper too 😏 /slap
Oh also, it's ironic that masquarade song was actually LuluShirley theme, but if you look at the lyrics, the lyrics itself fit more with LuluC 🤔
Well it's funny to found out that the creator themselves are actually a massive LxC supporter 😂
I don't know if this is true or not, but it's nice to know. Should I stalk Taniguchi's twitter? /slapslap

im thinking about how utena and code geass have literally like the exact same shots in their climactic scenes where deuteragonist gay lover stabs protagonist gay lover with sword. like, not lining up exactly but there are moments where they have the exact same expressions and everything it’s WILD
