Have you gotten tested for celiac? Just to rule it out?

​....that's never actually crossed my mind. My doctor just said that it was IBS and I was like "okay, cool." It's gotten worse since I've gotten older, and it gets a lot worse when I'm stressed. Does celiac work that way? 🤔

i have to eat low-fodmap and it's obviously stressful to change (and I'm finishing off my open, higher FODMAP foods so they don't go to waste) but @masonmczero makes things so much easier. He came with me to a natural food store and helped me look for groceries that will work for me and he also has offered to help cook low-fodmap recipes and is excited to learn more things. sick4sick love is incredible

Celiac tends to give you diarrhea if you’ve had gluten. But if you’re not avoiding gluten, it’s really hard to tell. Fwiw, I had no symptoms I ever tied to ingesting bread, but they screened me for it for something else, lo and behold a bunch of antibodies. I thought it was a joke, I was eating bread every day “no problem”. they did a biopsy in my small intestine, and it was bad. like years or even decades of unwittingly making myself ill bad.like you’re about to get lymphoma bad. I just know people have had IBS-D diagnosis for years with no resolution before finding out they had celiac. It’s a blood test. They should give it to people who have suspicious symptoms, not try to make them “experiment” with a gluten free diet just to see if it gets better.

Untreated celiac can give you cancer????

Okay well that's something to bring up to the doctor on Thursday. (They didn't think it was worth testing me when I was in the ER on Friday but. Fuck that, I'm gonna ask.)
