this is probably such an annoying ask - but i'm only on the beginning of season three but a SIMP for my mans zuko so if there is anyway you can do a cute little imagine where yn meets uncle iroh after dating zuko for a bit without spoilers? i wanna read all the fanfics but i cant yet :(((
Omg noo! Don't ever think that you're annoying! I love when people request! I decided to make it a headcanon because it was easier for me with like school and all my other responsibilities lol, but I hope you still like it! This is placed at the beginning of book 3, so let's just pretend that for some reason Iroh and reader are in prison together (and yeah, i know that in the fire nation prisons are not like these apparently, but for the sake of this hc let's pretend they are kinda like on wizards: toa) (if you haven't watched it you should, but they're like basic castle dungeons okay bye)
a/n: I tried to do this as spoiler-free as possible but this mentions things that happen up till episode 10 of book 3.
•••
Being in prison with Zuko's uncle
You and Zuko started dating when he was living in Ba Sing Se.
You were born in the Earth Kingdom, but you weren't a bender. However, you were really good at fighting.
So when Iroh began asking for help, you obviously agreed, especially because this was about your boyfriend.
You were so happy when you saw him at the catacombs. You were also confused about him being a prince and everything, but seeing him was more important for you.
Then, your heart nearly broke when he betrayed you and Iroh.
He'd said that you could join him and go to the Fire Nation as his guest, but you refused.
So now you were in jail with his uncle.
Obviously, being locked up was a bad thing, but it would've been a lot worse if you had been alone.
At first you didn't talk much, though.
You were tired from everything, and your emotions were a whole mess.
And seeing Iroh reminded you of Zuko, which was a bit painful.
He obviously understood how you feel, and was always very kind to you.
"I'm sorry I dragged you into this, (Y/N)," he said once.
And you told him that he had nothing to worry about, that it wasn't his fault.
it was Zuko's.
You barely had any energy to eat, and you mostly stayed in one corner of your cell.
The guards could be ruthless sometimes, but you would never let them see you cry.
Sadly, you were getting used to being there, practically alone.
So imagine your surprise when Zuko went to visit you.
Actually, he went to visit his uncle, but you turned out to be in the cell right in front of him.
He tried to talk to you, too, but you just ignored him.
You were angry, but mostly, you were sad and disappointed.
When he left, there was a lot of tension in the air.
"I thought he was one of the good ones," you mumbled loud enough for Iroh to hear you.
"He is, he's just lost," he answered.
You looked at him with a soft smile on your face, with some tears already forming in your eyes.
"I really liked him, you know?" you started saying. "I think I might have started falling for him, even."
Iroh stayed silent, completely paying attention to you.
"Do you think he'll ever realize what he's done?" You wanted to believe he would, but you couldn't be too sure.
"I don't know, (Y/N), let's hope he can find his own way by himself," he replied.
Deep down, even though you had a lot of mixed feelings, you hoped he was right; you hoped Zuko could find his way.
You kept talking for a while, about your pasts and mostly about Zuko, since he was what you two more had in common.
He told you that you really ment something for his nephew, even after all that had happened.
When he said that, you couldn't help but wondered what could've happened if things had been different.
He also talked to you about Zuko's childhood a bit, and that helped you understand him a little more.
Once again, you were glad that at least while being locked up you had someone.
Then he said something that stayed in your mind.
"Never lose hope, (Y/N)."
It was something simple but at the same time very meaningful to you.
And that's what kept you going: hope.
Sometimes you'd hear Iroh exercising in his cell, but you never really thought much of it.
Until the day of the eclipse.
You were asleep, it was like any other day for you, until you were woken up by someone.
When you saw Iroh kneeled down next to you, you felt confused; you thought that you were dreaming.
"Come on, (Y/N), we're getting out of here."
He helped you get in your feet and somehow you managed to escape.
You never thought you'd feel the wind ever again
But you were out of that cell.
You were completely free.
You just hoped that, somehow, Zuko would be able to free himself so he could become the person you knew he was destined to be.
And maybe, just maybe, you could be together once again.
