Getting out of the go kart and taking off my helmet, I look over at Addie and Luce. Grinning at them before saying “Another year and another preseason karting session where Addie loses” the comment has Luce falling to her knees laughing as she is getting out of her kart. Smiling I look back waiting for Addie’s response “Har Har, at least I know that I’ll have the best strategist in Indy Car” she shoots back with a playful roll of her eyes. The statement not being wrong as Addy has won the Indy 500 at least 3 times, and the championship at least twice in ten going on eleven seasons in Indy Car. Every year since Addie started racing in Indy Car we have raced each other in go karts before the season starts. Eleven years down and we are still doing said tradition. More often than not Luce is the one that wins. Both Addie and I always asking her why not join Formula 1 or Indy Car. To which her response is always the same, she would rather be the one to make the fastest car and call the strategies than be the one behind the wheel. The tradition is always fun and releases all the stress and anxiety of a new season. Not knowing how the cars will perform or how the other teams cars will perform. Especially this season with new car, new team, new series.

So immersed in my thoughts I barely heard Addie ask a question.. “sorry, what did you say Ads?” I ask her looking over to my right

To which she playfully turn grinned before shoving her hands in her pockets and slowing asking “How are you feeling about the season?”

“Better, the car looks good, I am excited to get it on the track and test it out.” I say with a shrug

“I think you’ll be great. What do you think of Max as a teammate? Is he nice?” I heard rumblings if some of the drivers not being happy a female is joining the grid.” Luce quietly asked as if nervous about the response

“Yeah he’s nice, he has been super supportive and helpful. I know he gives off this grumpy vibe but he’s been kind. As for the other drivers I have yet to meet the others but I’m sure I will in 2 weeks. So who knows we’ll have to see.” I tell her with another shrug. Not really wanting to think about the reactions of the other teams I will be physically meeting in two weeks.

“I know that Lando and Oscar are excited. Lando has been texting me nonstop. Between talk of the cars and trying to get me to spill all your driving secrets.. kidding on the driving secrets part. But really I think your going to have a wonderful season. Don’t worry about any of the others who are stuck in the past. You have so many people cheering you on, I promise you won’t feel alone” Addie tells me walking over before pulling me in for a hug which turns into a group hug with Luce joining in.

With a shaky voice and on the verge of tears I mumble to the girls “I am going to miss you guys so much when you leave”

“Then we’ll just have to plan out a crazy amount of episodes for the podcast.” Addie states grinning

“Yeah, just think of the content, inside scoop on the f1 grid, Nascar grid and Indy grid” Luce adds laughter in her voice. Bad thoughts and tears forgotten.

Okay where the frick did Lois’ mum's feelings come into this? Maybe I'm not as up to speed as the writers but in my head Lois, seeing a girl called Natalie calling her Mum, would immediately think about her own child named Natalie. Not how her mother felt leaving Lois and Lucy, and pretty much saying that her mum didn't love them at all. So while I know the intent here was drama, I think it wasn't the best way of doing it. Lois isn't expected to feel anything towards Nat, and Nat's situation isn't comparable to kid Lois’. That’s why this whole thing was a bit off for me; not the idea of it, but just this in this situation. But at least Lois opened up to Clark.

I have to say, though, I don’t understand why people are so focused on a break up between them. It’s the most innocuous stunt possible. And she serves a purpose. He’s still out there with a fake baby. IMO that’s the thing to be worried about if you’re going to worry.

In which ways do you think REM Van is most like real life Van, and which ways do you think they are different? x

Oh, this is a good question! Is it weird to say that I don’t feel like I’ve got Van down? For some reason, I picture him saying “this isn’t me! This isn’t how I talk!” 😂🙈

For similarities, they’re both very private. Real life Van doesn’t want us snooping around his dreams! Can you imagine the dreams he’d have? 😳 I’ve tried my best to make REM Van confident and blunt yet sensitive and insecure. We see real life Van confident when performing on stage and being blunt in lyrics and interviews but he’s also sensitive and insecure. I remember when he commented about the sexual CATB merchandise signs, he was hurt by how it was perceived so I think he’s sensitive to other people’s opinions. And he’s insecure saying he’s not good looking enough for magazine covers and how he doesn’t think he can get the girl. I tried to get REM Van to have his sense of humor because Van is a funny person! We just don’t see it as much. And I do think real life Van can be strict and controlling at times so you’ll see some of that in the story.

As for differences, I don’t see real life Van in that field of work. Don’t get me wrong! Van is intelligent and ambitious in his own way but I don’t see him in engineering or computer science. REM Van is also very analytical which comes from me, I’m sorry. 😅 I don’t think real life Van thinks like that. And I probably make REM Van more romantic than real life Van but I do think real life Van can be romantic when he wants! Like how he gets protective of his girlfriend walking home by herself at night, made chicken dinosaurs for her, etc. 😊

That’s all I can think of at the moment but I’m curious to see what you find similar and different. Thanks for the ask! x
